Get ready to go for a trip down green-slime memory lane. The iconic Nickelodeon show Double Dare is celebrating its 40th anniversary and we’re unpacking its unique ties to Philadelphia, as the show was originally produced right here at WHYY.
Host Marc Summers will be with us live in-studio to relive the memories, as will Double Dare sidekick John Harvey, whose “Harvey in the Morning” radio show was a staple in Philly in the 80s and 90s.

The iconic Nickelodeon game show Double Dare is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the celebration is coming back to where it all started: Philadelphia.
Host Marc Summers and original announcer John Harvey appeared live in studio on WHYY’s Studio 2 program on July 28 to revisit the show’s deep ties to the city. Double Dare was originally produced at WHYY, the public media station headquartered in Philadelphia, giving the green-slime-soaked game show a local pedigree that many viewers may not realize.
Summers, the TV personality who hosted the original Double Dare, helped turn the show into one of Nickelodeon’s signature programs. Harvey served as the show’s announcer and went on to become a familiar voice across Philadelphia radio. His “Harvey in the Morning” radio show was a staple in the city during the 1980s and 1990s.
The Studio 2 episode ran nearly 52 minutes, giving both Summers and Harvey room to revisit memories from the show’s early days and its connection to the Philadelphia media scene. For Northeast Philadelphia residents who grew up watching the messy physical challenges and trivia rounds, the anniversary is a reminder that one of kids’ television’s biggest hits got its start just down Broad Street.

The pups are bringing their prehistoric adventure to London with the launch of the Dino Hunt Trail at Westfield White City on August 1 & 2, while their brand-new home at Chessington World of Adventures - the UK's first and only PAW Patrol-themed land - is NOW OPEN and ruff ruff ready for the summer holidays.
The free trail invites young explorers to channel their inner Chase, Marshall and Skye as they search for clues hidden across Westfield White City, with Hamleys, The Works, Vue, Primark, The Entertainer and O2 all part of the fun. Every great hunt needs some great stops along the way, and together they will help turn Westfield White City into one giant PAW Patrol playground for the weekend.
The dino-sized adventure will kick off at Hamleys, where every explorer will get kitted out with their very own PAW Patrol booklet. From there, it's paws to the paw prints! Trailblazers will follow their map and the tracks store by store, uncovering a hidden letter at every stop as they build towards a top-secret code.
After collecting every letter and uncovering the mystery word, explorers can head to Whippersnapperkids.com/dinohunt and submit their code for the chance to win an exclusive, money-can’t-buy prize bundle worthy of Adventure Bay’s biggest heroes. Be sure to collect your special sticker at the start of the trail before your adventure begins.
To celebrate the Dino Hunt Trail, your favourite PAW Patrol characters will visit Hamleys Westfield over the weekend of August 1 & 2 to greet adventurers. Visitors can meet their favourite pups and take photos with them on the hour, for half an hour, between 12pm and 4.30pm both days, before the pups leap onto the big screen nationwide on August 5.
And the pups have a summer home too. Just outside London, the UK's first and only PAW Patrol-themed land is NOW OPEN at Chessington World of Adventures - and it's ruff ruff ready! The £15 million World of PAW Patrol brings the town of Adventure Bay to life across a 1.4-acre land, complete with a full-scale replica of the iconic PAW Patrol Lookout Tower, interactive character meet-and-greets, themed food and PAW Patrol retail.
At the heart of the land are four thrilling rides - Chase's Mountain Mission, Skye's Helicopter Heroes, Marshall's Firetruck Rescue and Zuma's Hovercraft Adventure, the UK's first "Drifter" ride - all designed with the show's young fans in mind. Best of all, access to World of PAW Patrol is included in a standard Chessington World of Adventures ticket, so families can make a full day of it alongside the resort's theme park, zoo and SEA LIFE aquarium.

Synopsis:

Ellipse Animation and Belvision announced their partnership with Nickelodeon last year. The partnership will see Nickelodeon broadcast The Marsupilamis (52 x 11’) worldwide, excluding the U.S.A. and China.
“This fresh take on the iconic character, created over 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin, brings the legendary Marsupilami from the wild Palombian jungle into the heart of the city,” said Nickelodeon, which is part of Paramount, now owned by Skydance Media.
Media-Participations’ animation production companies Ellipse Animation (The Smurfs, The Garfield Show) and Belvision (Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, Zombillenium) are coproducing the new series based on the classic cartoon character. Mediatoon Distribution and Mediatoon Licensing, also part of the family-owned group, are handling international sales and consumer products, and recently introducing The Marsupilamis respectively to MIPCOM and Brand Licensing Europe (BLE).
The Marsupilamis has also been commissioned by other major broadcasters including M6/Gulli in France, RTBF and VRT in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland and Radio Canada.
“Slated to launch in 2026, the comedic, action-packed new series follows twins Jade and Mica who find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs,” according to a plot description. “Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden – after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.”
Created over 70 years ago by Belgian artist & writer André Franquin, Marsupilami has become one of the most iconic characters in comic-book history, having been adapted numerous times for television, cinema and videogames. With its eight-meter-long tail, unmissable spotted fur and a distinctive “Houba”-based language, this creature has captured the imagination of kids and families across generations.
In the new animated series, the legendary Marsupilamis swap the wild Palombian jungle for an even wilder place: the city. The series targets children aged five and up. It is directed by Célestine Jacquel-Plays (Grizzy and the Lemmings), with Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh (The Amazing World of Gumball) as head writers and Guilhem Deckers (Minions 2) as artistic director. Through a comprehensive 3D production pipeline, the creative team has expanded visual and narrative horizons, blending situational comedy and action-packed scenes.

The Thundermans are set to return in the brand new movie, Clash of the Thundermans, premiering on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland this September!
Leading up to the premiere of Clash of the Thundermans, Nickelodeon will be taking viewers behind-the-scenes of the all-new Nick Flick with Summer of Thunder, all summer long on Nick UK & Eire.
In Clash of the Thundermans, when Chloe develops a destructive new superpower, the Hero League orders her to an elite boarding school for superheroes to learn control of her abilities. Faced with the prospect of sending Chloe away for years, the Thundermans split apart, with Phoebe, Barb and Billy taking her into hiding. Max, Hank, and Nora track their rogue family members, until the two factions face off against each other in a full-on battle for the Thundermans’ future.
The official logline for Clash of the Thundermans reads:
Chloe's new energy powers split the Thundermans over whether to train her at home or send her to a secret hero school. But when the school's dean unveils a dangerous plan, the family reunites to save Chloe and save the town.
Ariel Winter (Modern Family, Sofia the First) joins returning cast members Kira Kosarin as Phoebe Thunderman, Jack Griffo as Max Thunderman, Maya Le Clark as Chloe Thunderman, Addison Riecke as Nora Thunderman, Diego Velazquez as Billy Thunderman, Chris Tallman as Hank Thunderman and Rosa Blasi as Barb Thunderman. Winter will play Cognita.
Filming for Clash of the Thundermans took place in Vancouver, including at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus, during August 2025.
In the U.S. Clash of the Thundermans will premiere Nickelodeon on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), and will be available to stream on Paramount+ the same day.
The Thundermans premiered on Nickelodeon in October 2013 and wrapped its four-season run in 2018, ranking as the number-one series across all TV among Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11. Created and executive produced by three-time Emmy Award-winner Jed Spingarn, the scripted half-hour series follows superhero twins with opposite personalities, Phoebe and Max Thunderman, as they navigate their way through school, friends and a family of extraordinary superheroes, all while keeping their true identities a secret. The show has seen a resurgence following its 4Q21 launch on streaming, where it quickly became the top title across all SVOD among Kids 6-11; and has continued to rank among the top titles with Kids 6-11.
The Thundermans Return movie premiered in 2024 to stellar ratings, ranking as the number-one entertainment telecast for the year to date in Live+3 across all cable among Kids 6-11. It reached 1.6 million Total Viewers throughout its premiere weekend across airings on Nickelodeon and Nick At Nite (4 telecasts). The Thundermans Return follows twins Phoebe and Max who are enjoying their superhero lifestyle in a new city, but when one ‘save’ goes awry, the Thundermans are sent back to Hiddenville.
Building on the success of The Thundermans Return, Nickelodeon ordered spin-off series The Thundermans: Undercover, which debuted in 2025. The spinoff series follows Phoebe and Max, who are sent undercover to handle a new threat in the seaside town of Secret Shores and bring Chloe along to develop her superhero talent. The show also stars Daran Norris as “Thunderford,” as well as new cast members Kinley Cunningham as “Booch” and Nathan Broxton as “Jinx.”
The Thundermans, The Thundermans Return and The Thundermans: Undercover also features Dana Snyder as the voice of “Dr. Colosso”.
