The Emily in Paris Season 5 Trailer Will Make You Feel Fireworks

A whole new spin around the City of Love — and Rome — is on the way.

Grab the champagne — Emily in Paris Season 5 is on the way. Or should we say, pop the prosecco? As the just-released trailer confirms, the fizzy heroine Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is taking a detour from her beloved French city in favor of fair Rome, Italy.

Last season, Emily’s boss, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), asked her to open up a new Agence Grateau office in the Eternal City. The clip, seen above, reveals that the rom-com’s leading lady will mean business when Emily in Paris returns on Dec. 18. Emily’s got a new man (Eugenio Franceschini as cashmere mogul Marcello Muratori), new obstacles, and a dolce new outlook.

“She’s bolder, braver, stronger, and more adventurous,” Collins says. “She’s in a new city and a new country, figuring out her life, love, and work.”

While Emily applies her usual can-do attitude to her latest chapter, the trailer hints at some growing pains ahead. Marcello may be so enamored with Emily that he’s flirting in meetings, but his mother Antonia (Anna Galiena), is less than impressed by the American marketing exec’s ideas. At least Emily has a sleek new look that combines her Italian escapades and French savoir faire — and keeps her walking tall in her stilettos.

“The new look feels like her way of saying, ‘I’ve matured, I’m taking myself more seriously — so please take me seriously, too’ — while also embracing the idea of taking life itself a little less seriously,” Collins says. “There’s a sense of her letting go — literally and figuratively — of some of the weight she’s carried. She’s living life a bit more freely and carelessly, even if she still has her stressful moments.”

All of this growth has Emily in Paris creator and executive producer Darren Star calling the adventure ahead “one of [his] favorite seasons” of the series. “The story feels very fresh to me,” he says. “The relationships feel more mature this season, and I think there’s a lot for the entire ensemble to do.”

In the trailer, we get a peek at what “bigger and richer and deeper” stories Star has cooked up for Emily in Paris’s sprawling cast. Mindy (Ashley Park) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) share loaded glances back in Paris. Sylvie shows her soft side. And, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) looks toward “the future.”

So what does destiny have in store for Emily in Paris? Find out when Season 5 premieres on Dec. 18 on Netflix.
