IDW Previews New 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle' Titles Set for May 2026

From kaiju-sized threats to cybernetic horror and a major push toward issue #300, May proves the TMNT line is firing on all cylinders.

'Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6' Preview

May is shaping up to be a huge month for the Turtles, and IDW, through AIPT, has unveiled an awesome first look at what’s ahead across the entire line. Not only are things heating up across multiple books, but also the march toward Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300 and “The City That Never Dies” storyline is getting closer by the week.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to jump in or lock in your pull list, this is it.

TMNT #18 (on sale 5/13)

The Ujigami saga reaches its breaking point

The main series continues to swing big, delivering one of the wildest visuals of the arc as Donatello finds himself inside the ribcage of a towering skeletal monster. With Splinter restored but still fractured, the stakes are as emotional as they are explosive.

The real focus is on putting the Hamato family back together, even as the threat escalates around them. That core theme continues to define this run, and it is exactly why you should have this book on your pull list right now.

With #300 on the horizon, every issue is building toward something major.

Update (5/13):

Splinter is back, but not fully. His essence is fractured, leaving the Turtles with an impossible task: make their master whole again while battling a monstrous threat pulled straight from beyond the veil. The Shinigami isn’t done, and what it unleashes here pushes Clan Hamato to its limit. These new pages tease a finale that looks as emotional as it is explosive, with Williams delivering the kind of dynamic, high-impact visuals that have defined this run. (via)

TMNT: Shredder #8 (on sale 5/20)

Shredder vs. techno-horror

If you’re not reading Shredder, you’re missing one of the most intense books in the line right now.

The Dog Star Clan has been overtaken by a terrifying cybernetic infection, turning warriors into grotesque machine hybrids. Shredder is not backing down. He is charging straight into the chaos, even as the threat evolves beyond simple steel and skill.

The series leans hard into brutal action while pushing Shredder into a darker, more unsettling space. This one continues to hit hard every month.

In Shredder #8, Dan Watters and Sid Kotian continue their brutal reinvention of Oroku Saki’s world. The Dog Star Clan has been overtaken by a horrifying cybernetic infection, twisting bodies into something grotesque and barely human. Shredder is not the type to hesitate, though, and this preview makes it clear he’s ready to cut through whatever stands in his way, even if steel alone may not be enough.

Tales of the TMNT #6 (on sale 5/20)

Fugitoid steps up

The Tales series continues to expand the Mutant Mayhem universe with a high-stakes showdown.

With the Turtles trapped alongside Zog and enemies closing in, Fugitoid is forced to take control of the situation. Drawing on both his humanity and his training, he steps into the spotlight in a big way.

It’s a mission to keep the Turtles alive, but also for Fugitoid to discover himself.

Then there’s Tales of the TMNT #6, written by Andrew Joustra with art by Louie Joyce, pulling from the energy of the newest animated series. This time, the spotlight shifts to Fugitoid, who is forced to step up in a big way. With the Turtles trapped deep within the E.P.F. alongside Zog, and threats like Blanque and Bishop closing in, Fugitoid has to rely on both his humanity and his ninja training to survive. It’s a fun, high-stakes setup that blends sci-fi chaos with classic TMNT heart.

Not only is this a fun throwback, but also a reminder of how versatile the TMNT universe can be.

Don’t miss what’s next

From kaiju battles to cybernetic nightmares to multiversal warriors, May shows just how deep and diverse the TMNT line has become.

With #300 on the horizon, the current run is clearly laying the groundwork for something bigger. With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300 and “The City That Never Dies” fast approaching, now is the time to make sure the main series is on your pull list.

And if you like your action sharp and relentless, Shredder should be locked in too.

The Turtles are firing on all cylinders right now. Don’t get left behind.

Update (5/6): On the shelves this week, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing Compendium Vol. 1 arrives, collecting the first 50 issues of IDW’s acclaimed run in one massive volume. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to jump in, this is it. Also out this week is TMNT: Journeys #9.

Looking ahead, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #18 hits next week as the series continues its march toward issue #300, with major developments already reshaping the landscape. Playmates Toys Loses Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles License [Update]

In a shell-shocking development, Playmates Toys has revealed that they are losing the license to produce merchandise based on Nickelodeon's iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figures By Playmates Toys

In a recent filing with The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, Playmates has revealed that, as the long-time producer of consumer products inspired by TMNT, the company had been in negotiations with Paramount (under Viacom Media Networks) to renew their license for the right to design, manufacture, distribute and sell the products of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles since October 2025, but the company has now been formally notified by Paramount that the license agreement will not be renewed upon expiry on Thursday 31 December 2026.  As a result, the rights of Playmates to sell the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products shall cease on 31 December 2026, while the right to dispose its inventories of any TMNT products already manufactured will cease 90 days thereafter pursuant to the license agreement.

In the same filing, Playmates also revealed that, based on sales information, the revenue from sales of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products represented approximately 8%, 13%, 77%, 47% and 36% of the consolidated revenue of Playmates Toys Limited and its subsidiaries for the year ended 31 December 2021, 31 December 2022, 31 December 2023, 31 December 2024 and for the six months ended 30 June 2025, respectively.

Update (5/13/2026): Since the original post, Paramount has announced Mattel as the new global license holder for the TMNT brand, however, in a new development, Playmates has hired law firm Reeves & Weiss LLP to "protect" their brand:

Decades to build a beloved brand. Our job: protect it.

We're proud to share that Playmates Toys Inc. – the licensee of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Franchise and the designer, developer and manufacturer of nearly all TMNT action figures for almost four decades –  has asked Reeves & Weiss to defend the company and safeguard the legacy and value of a brand that has shaped generations.

It's a privilege to be entrusted with work of this magnitude on behalf of an enterprise with such a storied history of bringing joy to generations of fans.
More to follow. We're honored to be in the fight.
