Peppa Pig Teams Up With England National Football Teams In New Collaboration

The collaboration will see the introduction of a new character, Libby Lioness, voiced by England legend Jill Scott, as the brands come together across content, consumer products and retail.

Peppa Pig x The Football Association

Hasbro and The Football Association have announced a multi-year collaboration that will bring Peppa Pig into the world of England national football for the first time.

Launching in summer 2027, the multi-platform licensing initiative will unite two of Britain’s most beloved brands through original content, consumer products, retail and publishing, creating new opportunities for families, fans, retailers and licensing partners alike.

As part of the collaboration, England football icon, Jill Scott, will join the Peppa Pig universe, voicing a brand-new character, Libby Lioness, who will appear in original content designed to introduce England football to preschool audiences through Peppa’s signature warmth, humour and relatable family storytelling.

“Bringing Peppa Pig and England together is a truly exciting moment for the brand. Both celebrate confidence, resilience, friendship and the courage to try something new, making this a natural fit,” said Esra Cafer, SVP of Franchise Strategy and Management, Preschool and Fashion at Hasbro. “With original content, consumer products and retail all working together, we’re creating meaningful ways for young fans and families to connect with the game in a uniquely Peppa Pig way.”

Marvin Farrell, Head of Licensing at The Football Association, added: “England teams have inspired generations of young fans, and this initiative gives us an exciting new way to connect with children and families through one of the world’s most-loved pre-school brands. We are delighted to be bringing the spirit of England and the world of Peppa Pig together through content and products in 2027 and beyond.”

This licensing-led collaboration will bring new products to fans, supported by content including a two-part Peppa Pig broadcast special, dedicated Peppa Pig Tales episodes on YouTube and branded digital content. Together, these touchpoints will bring the excitement, teamwork and fun of football into Peppa’s world across broadcast, digital and social platforms.

For licensees and retailers, the initiative will extend into a broad consumer products programme spanning toys, plush, accessories, sporting accessories and apparel, supported by publishing and marketing activity.

Designed as a fully integrated franchise programme, the campaign will create a journey from screen to shelf and from storytelling into real-world play, offering partners the opportunity to participate in one of the most ambitious collaborations to date from Peppa Pig.

Further details about the content, consumer products and retail activations will be announced ahead of the summer 2027 launch.

‘The Smurfs’ Season 4 Gets First Look as Peyo Productions Reunites With Nickelodeon, RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA and TF1

Ahead of the beloved characters' 70th birthday in 2028, the fourth season of the 2021 CG hit reboot is currently under production, with a first part planned for fourth quarter 2027

Peyo Productions, the production arm of Peyo Company, home of the beloved Smurfs characters, has confirmed that the fourth season of its 2021 global hit CG-animated series The Smurfs is currently in production, sharing a first-look at a colorful new setting, featuring the iconic legacy characters created by Peyo. The news was first reported by Variety.

The 52 11-minute episodes will be delivered in two parts, the first half at the end of 2027, while the second will air in 2028 as part of a joint anniversary year for the Smurfs characters, celebrating Peyo’s 100th birthday and the Smurfs 70th birthday.

Produced with French animation powerhouse Ellipse Animation, The Smurfs brings back together longtime European co-production broadcasters RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA, and TF1, as well as global partner Nickelodeon. Starting fourth quarter 2027, the partnering European broadcasters will premiere the new season in Germany (KiKA), France (TF1) and Belgium (Ketnet, RTBF), while Nickelodeon will premiere the series in the US before rolling out later in the rest of the world.

In Season 4 of The Smurfs, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Jokey, and Storm take back the stage as the stakes get higher, the pranks wilder, and the magic more unpredictable.

“Our series has always been a character-driven series,” shares William Renaud, who’s been directing the show since 2021 and returns for this fourth season, along with head writers Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin. “With more than 100 Smurfs, we have plenty of stories to play with. Going back to our main protagonists in this season also allows us to bring back the legacy of the original comic books, while still tackling modern topics in a comedic way.”

This season also marks a bold leap forward in the Smurfs universe, with the introduction an impactful Smurfies Village, previously introduced at the end of season 3.

A vibrant new setting is filled with surprises and spirited Smurf girls, with Blossom, Storm and Willow becoming recurring characters in these fun-filled Smurfy adventures. “Their personalities aren’t tied to a function, but rather to emotions, or nature,” explains Renaud. “And their village mirrors this colorful, flower-filled state of mind.”

Combined, all these stories and character arcs directly connect with the series’ directing, continued Renaud. Fast-paced when necessary, and slower at other times, allowing the characters to shine while avoiding gratuitous and artificial staging, making children forget there’s a barrier between them and their favorite Smurfs.

“For me,” concludes Renaud, “the Smurfs are human beings like everyone else. They are guided by their emotions and humor, which is why kids love them so much. I mean, what could be more universal? They offer us a mirror to our flaws, like Chaplin in his time. They are not confined to a particular era, but rooted in humanity, and I think that’s the key to their enduring longevity.”

Nele de Wilde, executive producer and CCO Audiovisual & Music at Peyo Productions, agreed. “Truth be told, the Smurfs never cease to amaze us. Even after four seasons, there are still so many stories to be told, thanks to the legacy of Peyo. And while bringing the Smurfs to the screen in the last decades, we learned that the main characters like Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty and Baby are still among the most popular characters with kids.”

Instead of creating new characters, the team chose to create new stories with these existing ones. “As the saying goes, you don’t change a winning team.”

The same goes for Peyo Productions’ longtime partners, still thrilled to be part of a success story. “The team truly brought ‘The Smurfs’ up to a totally smurfy new level, enlarging the world of the Smurfs with great stories that are bursting with fun and much-needed laughter in these times,” adds an enthused Sebastian Debertin, head of international content, acquisitions & co-productions at KiKA.

Paola Acosta Orjuela, animation co-production manager at RTBF, also lauded the balance Peyo Productions found with this new season, between staying true to the Smurfs’ identity and bringing something new.

That feeling was shared by Yann Labasque, director of youth programs at TF1 Group. “The Smurfs’ humor, energy and team spirit continue to captivate young audiences, and are a perfect fit for the playful, feel-good spirit of our children’s programming. Get ready for more fun-filled adventures!”

As the teams are heading back once again to Smurf village, De Wilde and Caroline Duvochel, executive producer and CEO at Ellipse Animation (which has worked for nearly 10 years on the series), underline together the great artists behind this one-of-a-kind European show.

“Most of the artists who worked with us are coming back to the project because they love playing with the Smurfs so much,” explained De Wilde. “And they keep sharing how fun it is to work on this series! For most, it’s a childhood dream. Also, a big shout out to our two in-house art directors, Luc Parthoens and Tom Cosijn, who make sure we stay true to the brand’s DNA and keep the top notch quality we have aimed for since the beginning.”

Smurfs fan around the world are in for many blue treats in the upcoming months. During the big anniversary coming in 2028 (70 years of Smurfs, 100 years of Peyo), Part 2 of Season 4 will be released, and Peyo Productions is working on more special content for this celebration year, which it will present at Mipcom.

Update (10/13) - From Señal News:

How will be the new season of "The Smurfs"?

Peyo Company and partners unveils first look for the 52 x 11’ CG-animated series, wich enters production alongside Ellipse Animation, Nickelodeon, RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA, and TF1 ahead of the franchise's 70th anniversary.

Peyo Productions and Ellipse Animation have unveiled the first look at Season 4 of "The Smurfs" (52x11’), following the renewal of co-production and broadcast agreements with Nickelodeon, RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA, and TF1. The new season will be delivered in two parts, launching in late 2027 and continuing into 2028 to align with the Smurfs' 70th anniversary and creator Peyo’s 100th birthday celebration.

The fourth season, directed by William Renaud alongside head writers Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin, centers on core characters Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Jokey, and Storm, while expanding on the colorful Smurfies Village introduced in Season 3. Broadcast deliveries will commence in Q4 2027 on TF1 (France), RTBF and Ketnet (Belgium), and Nickelodeon globally, followed by KiKA in Germany in 2028.

William Renaud, Director said: “The Smurfs has always been a character-driven series, and with more than 100 Smurfs, we have plenty of stories to play with. Going back to our main protagonists in this season also allows us to bring back the legacy of the original comic books, while still tackling modern topics in a comedic way. And as for our Smurf girls, it was key for us that they’d have their own identity. Their personalities aren’t tied to a function, but rather to emotions, or nature. My idea has always been to stay true to the story and the characters, avoiding gratuitous and artificial staging.”

“While bringing the Smurfs to the screen, we learnt that the main characters like Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty and Baby are still amongst the most popular characters with kids. For this new season, instead of creating new characters, we felt it would be better to create new stories with our existing ones,” said Nele de Wilde, Executive Producer and CCO Audiovisual & Music at Peyo Productions.

Caroline Duvochel, CEO of Ellipse Animation, added: “Now in its fourth season, the magic of the Smurfs continues to work its wonders! The teams at Ellipse Animation are especially proud to have been contributing for nearly 10 years to this extraordinary series, driven by the humor, adventure, and optimism that lie at the heart of the universe created by Peyo.”

Sebastian Debertin, Head of International Content, Acquisitions & Co-Productions, KiKA: “What a pleasure to bring this hilarious and outstanding series with the co-production of the 4th season and the two specials back to the German audiences, especially in the light of the upcoming 30th anniversary of KiKA in 2027! ... Amy Serafin and Peter Saisselin truly brought the Smurfs up to a totally smurfy new level and enlarged the world of the Smurfs with great stories that are bursting with fun and laughter!”

Yann Labasque, Director of Youth Programs, TF1 Group: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Peyo Productions and Ellipse Animation and bring the Smurfs back to TFOU for a fourth season. Their humour, energy and team spirit continue to captivate young audiences and are a perfect fit for the playful, feel-good spirit of our children’s programming.”

Paola Acosta Orjuela, Animation Co-production Manager, RTBF: “RTBF is very happy to continue this long-standing collaboration with the Smurfs, a strong Belgian brand that continues to resonate with audiences. Over the years, we have built a relationship based on trust and teamwork... What I love about this new season is the balance between staying true to the Smurfs’ identity and bringing something new, with humour still at the heart of the series.”

“We approach the characters and the stories in a very contemporary way”

William Renaud, Director of "The Smurfs" Season 4, discusses the creative direction for the upcomings series, detailing how contemporary themes, the introduction of the Smurfies Village, and character-driven storytelling keep the iconic franchise globally resonant.

Co-produced by Peyo Productions and Dupuis Edition & Audiovisuel, the acclaimed 3D CGI series "The Smurfs" is preparing its fourth season for a 2027 debut. Produced by Véronique Culliford alongside executive producers Nele de Wilde and Caroline Duvochel, the upcoming 52x11’ installment builds on the original work created by Peyo. In this interview, William Renaud, Director of "The Smurfs" – Season 4, breaks down how the new season balances classic comic strip fundamentals with contemporary themes, introduces new emotional dynamics through the Smurfies, and maintains the universal human appeal that has driven the property's enduring global legacy across generations.

“The Smurfs” – Season 4 promises higher stakes, wilder pranks, and unpredictable magic. What are the key narrative dynamics and new adventures that viewers can expect in this upcoming installment?
“The narrative elements used in the fourth series are the same as in the previous series. The stories are mostly character driven. This means that the character is the driving force behind their own story and with over 100 Smurfs to choose from, we’re spoilt for choice. For this fourth series, we’ve also based ourselves on the fundamentals of the comic strips, by focusing stories on Gargamel and other main characters from the original Smurf books. We’ve also broached more contemporary themes like fake news, taking care of the environment and robotics, to ground the series in our times.”

A major highlight this season is the introduction of the Smurfies Village. What was the creative and strategic vision behind incorporating this vibrant new setting and its new characters into the franchise?
“It seemed obvious to us that, like in the comic strips, our 100 Smurfs need their female counterparts. But we didn’t want the female characters to just be a mirror image of the Smurf universe. We wanted the Smurfies to have their own identity, which is why their personalities aren’t the same as the Smurf ones, where they’re linked to a function or a personality trait. The Smurfies’ personalities are linked to emotions or nature. Their village doesn’t look like a clearing in the forest, but rather like a beautifully colored garden filled with flowers.”

With Gargamel returning to his most cunning and menacing self, how did you balance the show’s traditional slapstick humor and heart with more action-driven, high-stakes storytelling for today's audience?
“We approach the characters and the stories in a very contemporary way, which is why the series appeals to all generations. The themes are both deeply human and universal, they pull on the heart strings of the viewers. And emotions don’t change, even in a constantly evolving world. Moreover, the scenography serves the narrative: it has rhythm when needed and then slows down at other times. The idea is to stick with the story that is being told and what the character is going through, and to avoid gratuitous and artificial theatrical effects. The camera has to be from the point of view of the viewer, so that they can forget that there is a screen between them and the story that is being told.”

Spanning over six decades of global success, what do you think lies at the very core of The Smurfs’ enduring legacy across generations?
“To come back to what I was saying earlier, the Smurfs are humans like you and I. They are guided by their emotions and by humour - and there is nothing more universal than that. They serve as a mirror of our failings, like Chaplin back in the day. They’re not locked in the past, they’re grounded in humanity. I think that’s the main explanation for their longevity,”.

Ellipse Animation and Belvision announced their partnership with Nickelodeon last year. The partnership saw Nickelodeon launch The Marsupilamis (52 x 11’) worldwide, excluding the U.S.A. and China, earlier this year.

“This fresh take on the iconic character, created over 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin, brings the legendary Marsupilami from the wild Palombian jungle into the heart of the city,” said Nickelodeon, which is part of Paramount, now owned by Skydance Media.

Media-Participations’ animation production companies Ellipse Animation (The Smurfs, The Garfield Show) and Belvision (Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, Zombillenium) are coproducing the new series based on the classic cartoon character. Mediatoon Distribution and Mediatoon Licensing, also part of the family-owned group, are handling international sales and consumer products, and recently introducing The Marsupilamis respectively to MIPCOM and Brand Licensing Europe (BLE).

The Marsupilamis has also been commissioned by other major broadcasters including M6/Gulli in France, RTBF and VRT in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland and Radio Canada.

“Slated to launch in 2026, the comedic, action-packed new series follows twins Jade and Mica who find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs,” according to a plot description. “Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden – after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.”

Created over 70 years ago by Belgian artist & writer André Franquin, Marsupilami has become one of the most iconic characters in comic-book history, having been adapted numerous times for television, cinema and videogames. With its eight-meter-long tail, unmissable spotted fur and a distinctive “Houba”-based language, this creature has captured the imagination of kids and families across generations.

In the new animated series, the legendary Marsupilamis swap the wild Palombian jungle for an even wilder place: the city. There, twins Jade and Mica find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs. Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden — after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.

The series targets children aged five and up. It is directed by Célestine Jacquel-Plays (Grizzy and the Lemmings), with Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh (The Amazing World of Gumball) as head writers and Guilhem Deckers (Minions 2) as artistic director. Through a comprehensive 3D production pipeline, the creative team has expanded visual and narrative horizons, blending situational comedy and action-packed scenes.

“We are thrilled to finally present The Marsupilamis series, with our best talents bringing a new take on the most iconic IP of our portfolio,” said Caroline Duvochel, Head of Audiovisual & Innovation at Média-Participations and Managing Director of Ellipse Animation. “An ambitious and unique branding strategy unites all entities within the Média-Participations group, placing The Marsupilamis at the forefront of our creative efforts. Collaborating with the top-tier Paramount team is a true delight, enhancing the global reach and impact of our legendary character.”

Layla Lewis, Senior Vice President (SVP), Global Acquisitions & Content Partnerships for Nickelodeon, added, “We are delighted to be partnering with Ellipse and Belvision to introduce The Marsupilamis to our Nickelodeon audiences. This fresh take on a beloved character brings a vibrant mix of humor, heart and adventure that makes it an excellent addition to our international slate.”

Ellipse Animation: The Marsupilamis expands its global footprint with Nickelodeon U.S. premiere

Ellipse Animation and Belvision, both part of the Media-Participations group, announced that the animated series The Marsupilamis will continue its global rollout with its arrival in the U.S. market. Beginning October 19, the production will air on the Nick Jr. channel, marking a major milestone in its international release strategy following an initial global acquisition by Nickelodeon.

The agreement for the United States follows successful launches across multiple international territories, where the content has resonated alongside strong local broadcast partners. These include M6 and Gulli in France, RTBF and VRT in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland, and Radio-Canada. Furthermore, interest in this European intellectual property has grown in North America, recently illustrated by Abrams publishing a comic book volume inspired by the animated series in the U.S. and Canada.

Created over 70 years ago by renowned Belgian author André Franquin, the iconic character with an 8-meter-long tail has been adapted numerous times for television, cinema, and video games. Why ‘Oswald’ Matters | An Essay By Dan Yaccarino

An essay by Dan Yaccarino, creator of Oswald:

Why ‘Oswald’ Matters

Oswald
Oswald [Nickelodeon]

Originally published on Animation Magazine.

Twenty-five years ago, I created a blue octopus named Oswald. The animated series Oswald premiered on Nickelodeon in 2001 and ran through 2003. I had no idea I’d still be talking about him in 2026.
I’m not someone who tends to rest on my laurels or look back much at my career. I’m usually thinking about what I’m working on now and what I want to do next. Like any creator, I love hearing from people who have connected with my work. But over the past two years, the messages I’ve received about Oswald have a recurring thread. The original fans, now adults, aren’t simply telling me they remember the series fondly. Again and again, they talk about returning to it for comfort. Some use the words “regulate my nervous system.” Others remember Oswald as a place where they could relax and feel safe. Some are now showing it to their own children, while new fans are discovering it for the first time.

I’m overcome with happiness when someone tells me that something I created gave them comfort or helped teach them empathy. But all these messages have also made me wonder: Why now? Why is a quiet animated series made a quarter-century ago connecting with people again at this particular moment?

I don’t know that I have the answer, but I understand that children are growing up in a world that asks for their attention constantly. Parents see it in their children because they’re feeling it themselves. We’re all overstimulated, and there seems to be a pushback from people who want to slow down and enjoy life again. You can see it in the renewed interest in vinyl records, film cameras and printed books. I don’t think people are rejecting technology. I think we may be questioning what we gave up in the rush toward faster, newer and more.

That makes the resurgence of Oswald particularly interesting to me because people are often rediscovering him through the very technology that didn’t exist when I created him. The series wasn’t designed around engagement or retention or an algorithm. We were trying to make a world children would want to spend time in. There is a difference between temporarily capturing someone’s attention versus creating something they want to return to, and that distinction matters to me.

Oswald
Oswald [Nickelodeon]

When we were making Oswald, I wanted to create a different kind of animated series. I wanted it to be slow-paced, a little surreal and whimsical, but also sweet and kind. That was partly my intention and partly just who Oswald was. He was thoughtful and sometimes unsure of himself. He cared about his friends. His world was populated by disparate characters who lived together regardless of their differences. There were no villains or bad guys. The focus was much more on relationships and the underlying emotional story than on action or, in some cases, even plot. The overwhelming energy I wanted the series to have was safety, peace and kindness. We weren’t trying to make what we would now call “low-stim” television. I don’t remember anyone using that term. It was simply the kind of experience I wanted children to have when they entered Oswald’s world.

A lot of other decisions came from that same instinct. I wanted the series to feel timeless, so I kept technology out of Oswald’s world as much as I could. We chose the right voice actors for the characters, and were fortunate to have an extraordinary cast. We recorded the music with real instruments because I thought that had value, and because for some children it might be one of the few places they would hear them. I pushed for the characters to be drawn without black outlines because that reflected my illustration style and made the show feel different. I wanted Oswald’s Big City to exist in its own universe.

For years, some of those choices could have seemed old-fashioned: the slower pace, real instruments, an emphasis on emotional stories and relationships, a world without much technology. Now I hear terms like “low-stim” used to describe some of those same qualities. Maybe the lesson isn’t that everything old eventually becomes new again. Maybe it’s that certain human needs never went away.

I Am Murphy and I Am Waiting
I Am Murphy and I Am Waiting

As a creator, all of this makes me interested in what comes next. How do you create an emotional experience within today’s platforms? The original 11-minute format worked well for Oswald, but I’m intrigued by other formats too. A shorter story could allow me to concentrate on a smaller action, relationship or emotional idea. I’m interested in what new technology makes possible as a tool that can give creators new ways to reach an audience. The challenge is knowing what should change and what shouldn’t. A story can be shorter without becoming frantic. The platform can change without changing the character.

That question feels especially relevant with my current work. My characters and worlds always begin in books, where there is time to slow down, build a world and let a character reveal itself. I Am Murphy and I Am Waiting, my new picture book, is about a French bulldog waiting, not very patiently, for his boy to come home from school. It’s funny, but underneath the humor is a story about separation, big feelings and love. This fall also brought Piccolo and the Chicks, the second book featuring a little Italian shrew named Piccolo and the animal friends of Bella Città. The interest I’m starting to see from studios in these newer characters and worlds, along with the response I’m getting directly from readers, has me thinking about exciting new ways a world can grow.

These books are different from Oswald, but seeing this new work alongside the resurgence of interest in the series has helped me recognize a thread running through my work. I create characters with empathy at their center and worlds I hope children will want to return to. I want those worlds to be funny and visually distinctive, but I also want children to feel safe there. That was true then. It’s true now.

Piccolo and the Chicks spread
Piccolo and the Chicks spread

I feel a massive sense of responsibility when I create books or television for children because we carry these early impressions for the rest of our lives. I believe children’s content is the most important content we create, and it has to be the best work I can make. We also shouldn’t underestimate our audience. Children are far more sensitive and intelligent than I think they’re sometimes given credit for.

If a young creator asked me how to create a character that audiences might still care about 25 years from now, I’d tell them to begin with what they needed as a child. Somewhere inside that answer is the emotional truth of the character. If you’ve lived it, you know it intimately, and that knowledge can become empathy on the page or screen.

The screens will keep changing, and I’m excited to see what comes next, but I don’t think the things children need from us have changed very much. The primary message behind all of my work has always been peace, kindness and love. It’s pretty simple.

Oswald Creator Dan Yaccarino Pens Heartfelt Response to Fan’s Essay About the Comfort the Series Brought Her as an Adult

Though short-lived, ‘Oswald’ was a beloved Nick Jr. fixture

NEED TO KNOW

  • Oswald aired on Nickelodeon from Aug. 2001 to Sept. 2003
  • The animated preschool series was a peaceful way for kids to explore and though it aired for just 26 episodes, it had a significant following
  • Creator Dan Yaccarino has recently spoken out about what it means to him to hear from fans who are all grown up about how the show still impacts them, over two decades later

Oswald is still touching the hearts of its viewers, over 20 years later.

The animated children’s series, which aired on Nickelodeon from Aug. 2001 to Sept. 2003, followed a blue octopus named Oswald and his dog, Weenie, as they spent time and learned with friends in Big City. Fred Savage voiced the titular character, with the cast also including David L. Lander, Laraine Newman, Richard Kind, and more.

Creator Dan Yaccarino addressed Oswald fans in a recent post, sharing a Substack essay by an author named Shamika G., who opened up about rediscovering the show as an adult. In his Instagram post, Yaccarino praised Shamika’s discussion of how the show still feels like safety, all these years later.

“I created Oswald to be a gentle, kind, and comforting show for children. I never imagined that, years later, it might still be bringing that same sense of comfort to people who have grown up and become adults. This beautiful Substack essay by Shamika G. explores how returning to Oswald as an adult helped calm her nervous system and reconnect her with the feeling of a simpler time,” Yaccarino wrote.

“As a creator, there is no greater compliment than knowing something you made has stayed with someone... and can still bring them a little peace years later,” he continued, concluding, “Thank you, Shamika, for sharing this. It means more than you know.”

In June, Yaccarino shared his gratitude for the love around Oswald after a ranking video where Dr. Arif Khan celebrated the show’s emotional intelligence and what it provided young viewers.

“As a creator, you never really know what kind of impact your work will have on people. So it was incredibly gratifying to come across Dr. Arif Khan’s thoughtful video praising Oswald, and highlighting its gentle storytelling, kindness, empathy, and positive messages,” Yaccarino wrote.

“When I created Oswald, my goal wasn’t simply to entertain children; it was to create a world where compassion, friendship, patience, and understanding were at the heart of every story,” he continued. “It’s wonderful to see those qualities still being recognized and appreciated years later. Thank you, Dr. Khan, for your kind words and for reminding me why creating Oswald was such a special experience.”

Oswald has the unique distinction of also bringing one of Hollywood’s most beloved duos back together on one project. Lander, who voiced Henry the penguin on the show, was reunited with his Laverne & Shirley costar Michael McKean, who voiced Maestro Bingo Bunny, as well as Henry the penguin’s cousin, Louie the penguin.

Lander died in Dec. 2020 from complications related to multiple sclerosis.
