New York, NY – (July 10 2025) –  Comedy Central is bringing together an all-star lineup of animation and comedy legends for a can’t-miss Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Marking their triumphant return to SDCC after nearly a decade, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park) will join Mike Judge (Beavis And Butt-Head) and Andy Samberg (Digman!) for the Comedy Central Adult Animation panel on Thursday, July 24 at 6:45 PM in Hall H. Season 27 of South Park premieres Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 PM ET/PT, followed by the season two premiere of Digman! at 10:30 PM ET/PT on Comedy Central.

‘South Park’ Creators Reach $1.5-Billion Streaming Pact with Paramount Global

The creators of Comedy Central’s hit animated series South Park reached a breakthrough Monday (July 21) in the tense negotiations over the streaming rights of the long-running satirical cartoon, the Los Angeles Times is reporting.

Paramount agreed to buy the global streaming rights for South Park to bring the show to the company’s digital service, Paramount+, for the first time in the U.S., according to three people close to the negotiations who were not authorized to comment. It's currently unclear whether the deal will include the international streaming rights: South Park was available on many Paramount+ services up until earlier this month, when the rights expired and the show was pulled. As of the time of posting, only the standalone South Park specials, made for Paramount+, are available to stream on Paramount+ UK & Ireland.

The deal with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, through their Park County production company, values the global streaming rights at $300 million a year, according to two of the people close to the agreement, who could not discuss the matter publicly because the deal is not final.

The five-year deal means the show will fetch $1.5 billion for streaming alone.

The sum preserves the show’s status as one of the world’s most valuable TV franchises.

As part of the deal, Park County agreed to produce 10 episodes a year.

Paramount was eager to bring the cartoon home. In 2019, previous corporate managers licensed South Park to rival HBO Max as Paramount’s streaming service was still in development. But that decision left Paramount+ out in the cold — much like the fictional mountain town of South Park, Colo.

The HBO Max deal expired in late June.

Paramount this spring offered HBO Max and its parent, Warner Bros. Discovery, an option to co-license the show, which would have given Kenny, Kyle, Stan and Cartman a home on two streaming services: Paramount+ and HBO Max.

But over the weekend and on Monday, the talks with Warner Bros. Discovery collapsed, prompting Paramount to go it alone, according to one of the knowledgeable sources.

Both sides were motivated to reach a deal before Wednesday, when Paramount’s Comedy Central channel kicks off the 27th season of South Park. The premiere date had already been postponed once amid behind-the-scenes drama as Paramount prepares to be sold to David Ellison’s Skydance Media.

Paramount and Skydance also wanted to avoid any public relations fiascoes when Stone and Parker take the stage Thursday at fan-fest Comic-Con in San Diego. The co-creators have already shared some choice words about the Paramount-Skydance merger earlier this month when the latest season of South Park was postponed.

Thanks to an arrangement dating back to 2007, Park County is entitled to nearly half of the show’s streaming revenue through a joint venture with Paramount called South Park Digital Studios. The revenue sharing arrangement should enable Paramount to eventually recoup about half of the licensing fee that it agreed to pay for streaming rights.

Months of deal talks were complicated by Paramount’s pending sale to Skydance.

In addition, the two sides have separately been negotiating a new overall deal for Parker and Stone, to renew their previous $900 million pact that kept the show on Comedy Central with new episodes through 2027.

Parker and Stone’s team are seeking a higher valuation in order to produce new seasons.

Skydance has the authority to approve major Paramount transactions, as part of an arrangement it struck last year with the company’s board.

Initially, Park County asked for a 10-year deal but Skydance balked, insisting on a shorter span given the uncertain television landscape.

The high-stakes negotiations became strained last week, prompting Park County to enlist bulldog litigators Stuart Liner and Bryan Freedman to prepare a lawsuit targeting Paramount and Skydance, two sources said.

But, by week’s end, the talks were back on track. The various sides agreed on a five-year term rather than a 10-year span.

Skydance signed off on the transaction, the sources said.

Parker and Stone’s longtime attorney, Kevin Morris, and Keith Pizzi, Park County’s Chief Executive, spearheaded negotiations for the creators. Keyes Hill-Edgar, Chief Operating Officer of Paramount’s media networks unit, shepherded Paramount’s side.

Skydance’s Ellison and Jeff Shell, a senior executive at RedBird Capital Partners, which is part of the Skydance team, were heavily involved in the negotiations to bring the show to Paramount+.

The companies declined to comment Monday.

Paramount Executives Tell Staff That Africa Offices and Channels May Close Amid International Strategy Review

Paramount's Africa leads Monde Twala and Craig Paterson told the teams in Johannesburg and Lagos that their roles could be impacted as the firm "evaluates its pay TV strategy and local channel footprint."

Paramount Global‘s Africa offices may close, local channels may be shuttered, and staffers’ roles could be impacted, company executives told employees in the region on Tuesday, July 22, sources familiar with the situation have told The Hollywood Reporter.

The company has been prioritizing investments in its growing streaming business and core global content as it navigates shifts in audience behavior and the macro-economic environment. As part of that, it is reviewing its international pay TV strategy and considering adjustments to its linear channel portfolio in international markets, with a focus on cable brands. Management has also signaled a focus on businesses and regions with the most opportunity for revenue growth.

As part of the restructuring, several Paramount channels are already known to be closing internationally by the end of the year, including: Nickelodeon channels TeenNick and NickMusic, along with MTV channels MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV 00s, MTV Hits, MTV Live, Club MTV, we well as Polsat Comedy Central Extra in Poland; and Teen Nick, Nick Music, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV 00s, MTV Hits, MTV Live HD, and Club MTV in Hungary. Nickelodeon wise, this will leave Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Nicktoons in these regions. However, in New Zealand, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr., along with MTV 80s, MTV Hits, and Comedy Central, are expected to shutter by the end of the year, as Paramount's programming partnership with Sky TV is set to expire.

In Africa, Nickelodeon channels available include Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and Nicktoons, the latter of which carries a localised NickMusic programme.

Tuesday’s news comes as Paramount continues to wait for FCC approval of Skydance Media’s deal to acquire it, which has included a $16 million lawsuit settlement with President Trump. THR understands that Paramount has fewer than 100 employees in Africa between its offices in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria.

“We are at a point in our journey where we are facing immense industry disruption,” Monde Twala and Craig Paterson, co-general managers of Paramount Africa, said in a staff memo obtained by THR. “Our team is not immune to potential changes as our organization evaluates its pay TV strategy and local channel footprint here in Africa.”

In June, Paramount unveiled further U.S. workforce cuts to the tune of 3.5 percent, following a 15 percent reduction last year. As of the end of 2024, Paramount Global had 18,600 employees worldwide. Co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins said in a June memo that the focus was on U.S. headcount but the moves “may also result in some impacts to our workforce outside the U.S. over time.”

Twala and Paterson acknowledged in their staff memo: “Today was incredibly difficult. We want you to know your greatness is seen. We reach out with a heavy heart, but also with immense pride. Your dedication to excellence, creativity and passion for leveraging the power of our content have been the driving force behind our many accomplishments.”

They concluded: “We understand the coming weeks may be tough and feel unsettling. Through it all, please know your efforts are valued beyond measure.”
