Samuel L. Jackson to Headline Paramount+'s 'NOLA King,' the First Spinoff From 'Tulsa King'

SAMUEL L. JACKSON TO HEADLINE HIS FIRST TV SERIES AS PARAMOUNT+ GREENLIGHTS NOLA KING, THE FIRST SPINOFF OF THE HIT SERIES TULSA KING

July 17 – Paramount+ today announced that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to headline his first TV series following the greenlighting of NOLA KING, the first spinoff of the hit series, TULSA KING. Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., will be introduced in the upcoming, highly anticipated third season of TULSA KING, slated to premiere in September.

NOLA KING follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) during a ten-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York's Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty-years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family and friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.

“Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise," said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment. “Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s TULSA KING, audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson's dynamic, layered performance, supercharging one of Paramount+'s flagship series.”

“Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise,” said Sylvester Stallone. “I was immediately on board. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA and David Glasser and 101 are the perfect partner to bring it to life."

“Partnering with Paramount has been such a rich experience,” said David C. Glasser, CEO 101 Studios. “Taylor had the brilliant idea to drop Sylvester Stallone in the middle of Tulsa and it has been everything we have wanted and more.  The success of this show has now led us to another icon. I cannot wait to see what Sam brings to this world.”

NOLA KING is executive produced by Oscar® nominees Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone and Samuel L. Jackson. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman and Keith Cox also executive produce. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of the Paramount+ markets.

In 2024, TULSA KING ranked as the #1 global Paramount+ original series and was a top 10 original series across all SVODs in Q4 of that year.

Paramount’s ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’, ‘SEAL Team’ & ‘Watson’ Head to Netflix as Streamer Ramps Up Licensed Content

Netflix is continuing to ramp up its volume of licensed content, with Paramount series SEAL Team, Watson and Mayor of Kingstown being added to the service in the U.S.

A scene from the TV series 'Mayor of Kingstown'
'Mayor of Kingstown' | Paramount+

It marks an interesting move given that it’s the first Taylor Sheridan series to stream on Netflix. It comes as the Jeremy Renner-fronted series is ending with its upcoming fifth season.

The streamer revealed the move Tuesday (Jan. 20) in its fourth-quarter earnings letter. “We have a new slate of licensed titles from Paramount which is going to bring a lot of new series, shows that Netflix has never had around the world,” Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said on the company’s fourth quarter earnings call.

“In 2026, we’ll also expand our offering of licensed titles,” it noted.

Although Netflix has previously licensed Nickelodeon shows in the past, some of which made their debuts on the streamer, the wider deal with Paramount is somewhat of a surprise and also includes series such as Matlock and King of Queens for international territories. It’s not clear what seasons of these shows, particularly Mayor of Kingstown, which is the newest, will be available on Netflix, but these shows have previously streamed exclusively on Paramount+.

Netflix said that it has licensed 20 shows with Paramount, which is currently in the middle of an embattled process with Netflix to acquire Warner Bros Discovery.

Deadline understands that Mayor of Kingstown launching on Netflix marks the first time that a Sheridan series will stream anywhere outside of Paramount+ since Yellowstone launched on Peacock as a result of an early deal between the studio and the NBCUniversal streamer.

Mayor of Kingstown comes from 101 Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, while Watson, which premiered its second season in October, and SEAL Team come from CBS Studios.

In a separate deal, Netflix will also premiere Nickelodeon's upcoming Victorious spin-off, Hollywood Arts, before the show airs on Nickelodeon and Paramount+.

Outside of the Paramount deal, Netflix talked up its recent pay-1 film deal with Sony and also noted that Netflix subscribers will be able to watch new-release, live-action films from Universal as part of a licensing deal, which follows its existing licensing deal for animated films from Universal’s animation studios Illumination and DreamWorks Animation.

Paramount Hires Shivani Patel as Exec VP of Strategy and Operations

The former Universal exec will oversee slate planning for Paramount’s film and TV divisions

Shivani Patel Headshot

Paramount Skydance has hired Shivani Patel as its new Executive Vice President (EVP) of Strategy and Operations for both its film and television divisions, reporting to Paramount Pictures Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.

Patel will work alongside studio leadership to shape long-term strategy, guide slate planning and operationalize new processes and capabilities that bring analytical rigor to key decisions for film and TV titles at all stages of the development and release process. She will also work to coordinate functions between various departments including production, marketing and distribution.

Formerly an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, Patel comes to Paramount from Universal, where she served as Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategy & Business Development for 11 years. Similar to her duties at Paramount, Patel worked with film executives to guide greenlight and talent deal strategy around its studio slate.

Since Paramount closed its $8 billion merger with Skydance, the company has revamped its leadership team under the jurisdiction of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and chairman David Ellison. Along with Goldberg and Greenstein, Paramount has hired Josh Goldstine as head of marketing, Jennifer Dodge as head of Paramount Animation, Shaun Barber as head of theatrical distribution and Lia Buman as head of Republic Pictures. The studio has also lured talent including Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, Will Smith, James Mangold, Jon M. Chu and Jessica Biel for various film and television deals.

Paramount’s 2026 theatrical slate includes Scream 7 in February, Scary Movie 6 in June, PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie in August, Street Fighter in October and The Angry Birds 3 in December, whilst its TV and streaming slate includes Survivor 50, School Spirits, Tulsa King, MobLand and Landman.

The news of Patel’s hiring came Monday, January 26 as Ellison’s Paramount finds itself in a bidding war and hostile takeover bid with Netflix for David Zaslav’s Warner Bros. Discovery.

Liz Tigelaar Moves to CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios in New Overall Deal

The writer and producer, who'd been at 20th Television (formerly ABC Signature), fielded multiple offers before settling on her new TV home base.

Liz Tigelaar Headshot
Liz Tigelaar | Ricky Middlesworth

Liz Tigelaar is taking her Best Day Ever Productions banner to Paramount TV Studios and CBS Studios in the first-ever joint overall deal between the newly sibling’d studios.

An Emmy and WGA-nominated writer, producer and creator, Tigelaar most recently spearheaded the Hulu miniseries Tiny Beautiful Things. The limited series, based on the book of the same name by Cheryl Strayed, earned star Kathryn Hahn an Emmy nomination. Tigelaar also served as executive producer on another recent Hulu entry, Under the Bridge.

“Having Liz join us at PTVS and CBS Studios for her next chapter feels like both a homecoming and a new beginning,” CBS Studios president David Stapf and Paramount TV Studios president Matt Thunell said in a joint statement issued late Monday (Jan. 26). “She is an extraordinary creative force with a unique voice that blends emotional truth, humor and humanity in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. We are eager, along with our teams, to collaborate with Liz once again as she continues to create and build worlds that reflect her bold storytelling and heart.”

Multiple studios were angling to get in business with Tigelaar as her most recent pact with 20th Television (originally with ABC Signature) came to a close. And it’s a reunion of sorts, as Tigelaar previously had an overall at CBS Studios in 2010. She starts with the Paramount Skydance-owned studios in February and brings with her Best Day Ever Productions’ vice president of development, Abby Chambers. The pair will work closely with PTVS’s Thunell and Shelley Zimmerman and CBS Studios’ Stapf and Bryan Seabury to develop projects for streaming and linear platforms.

“I am so thrilled to join not one but two incredible studios, each prolific at developing hit television,” said Tigelaar. My history with this team runs deep; my admiration runs even deeper. Shelley brought me my first book adaptation, igniting what would become a passion. David wholeheartedly championed my first (and second) pilot. Bryan was the studio executive in the trenches with me on my first show that went to series, Life Unexpected. And I have been so eager to work with Matt — a strategic leader and creative force. Together, we have a shared vision which will allow me to pursue my love of adaptations, while dreaming up new, impactful stories with heart and humor.”

Among Tigelaar’s many credits is Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu), for which she served as creator, showrunner and executive producer. She also served as showrunner on Casual (again, Hulu), created and showran Life Unexpected (The CW) and wrote and produced such series as ABC’s What About Brian, Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers and Sisters, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Nashville and The Astronaut Wives Club, as well as A&E’s Bates Motel. In features, she’s completed the script for Netflix’s still-developing adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Tigelaar is represented by UTA and Wendy Kirk at Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

The Gaang is back!! Today Netflix unveiled the Official Teaser and First Look photos for the highly-anticipated return of Avatar: The Last Airbender, confirming Season 2 will debut in 2026. The Teaser showcases fan-favorite Earthbender, Toph (Miya Cech), the newest member of Team Avatar that includes Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley) and more!

About AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER S2

Release Date: 2026

Starring: Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Miya Cech, Elizabeth Yu, Ty Lee and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, with Maria Zhang and Daniel Dae Kim.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER follows Aang, the young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, Air) to restore balance to a world threatened by the terrifying Fire Nation. In S2, after a bittersweet victory saving the Northern Water Tribe from the invading Fire Nation, Avatar Aang, Katara and Sokka regroup and set off on a mission to convince the elusive Earth King to aid in their battle against fearsome Fire Lord Ozai.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER is a live-action reimagining of the award-winning and beloved Nickelodeon animated series. Christine Boylan (Poker Face, Once Upon a Time) serves as executive producer and writer. Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space, Stranger Things) is executive producer and director, alongside directors Anu Menon, Amit Gupta and Hiromi Kamata. Dan Lin and Ryan Halprin serve as executive producers from Rideback. Additional executive producers include Brendan Ferguson and Albert Kim.

Kim, who served as showrunner and wrote the pilot for Season 1, has passed the reins to Boylan and Raisasni. Kim will remain as an executive producer on the series.

Following the smashing success of Season 1 on Netflix, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series was quickly renewed for two more seasons, which were filmed back-to-back, with the series wrapping earlier this Fall.

“We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” executive producers Boylan and Raisani told Netflix's Tudum in February. “We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly, we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again.”

The EPs are keeping details about Season 2 close to the vest, but they did tease that we will see more of the Earth Kingdom.

“There’s no war in Ba Sing Se,” they explain, referencing a line from the original animated series. “For the Gaang, fans can expect more brilliant plans from Sokka, even more masterful bending from Katara, Appa, and Momo to be as fluffy as ever, and Aang to learn a new bending form (or two).”

In general, Raisani and Boylan are excited about building on the strong foundation of Season 1. “We’re going to challenge our characters with more complex and nuanced obstacles as they navigate a more tactile world,” say Boylan and Raisani. “Just as the animated series matured and progressed, the live-action will also take these characters and worlds and grow them.”

“When we started working on Season 2, we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are almost three years later wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them,” Boylan told Tudum. “I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team who is bringing this epic live action story to the world.”

But with a new season comes the opportunity for fresh faces.

Earlier in 2025, Netflix announced new cast members who will be joining Season 2, in addition to Cech as Toph:

  • Chin Han (Mortal Kombat, Skyscraper) as Long Feng
  • Hoa Xuande (The Sympathizer, Top of the Lake: China Girl) as Professor Zei
  • Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun, The Great Leap) as King Kuei
  • Amanda Zhou (Spinning Out, The Handmaid’s Tale) as Joo Dee
  • Crystal Yu (Doctor Who, Good Omens) as Lady Beifong
  • Kelemete Misipeka (Sons of Thunder) as The Boulder

See a More Grown-up Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2

“There are going to be scenes that push the audience to tears, but also make them laugh,” says Gordon Cormier.

Even in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender where the elements can be bent and warped, you can’t bend time. When the live-action reimagining of the classic Nickelodeon animated series returns for Season 2 later this year, you’ll meet an Aang who has grown up visibly since the first chapter debuted, as you can see in the first-look photo above — and the actor who plays him, Gordon Cormier, has evolved right along with him.

“Shooting Season 1, I was 12, so it’s really the fun memories that stick with you,” Cormier told Netflix from the set of Season 2. He even missed sporting Aang’s signature haircut — or lack thereof. “A piece of me wanted to shave my head again — I don’t know why,” he said, laughing. “I missed being bald and my castmates — both.” Along with the fun and camaraderie with the tight-knit cast, Cormier and the rest of the Gaang reunited knowing that they’d be able to finish telling the entire story. “We didn’t really know if we were getting Season 2 or Season 3,” Cormier recalled, of filming the first season. “And now having both, it’s really awesome knowing I’m going to be able to see them again for a while.”

That continuity, as well as becoming a more mature actor, has shifted Cormier’s approach, making him think more deeply about his character. “It’s definitely a lot more,” he said. “I go home, read my script, study my script, character analysis, study my script, hang out a little bit, go rock climbing, study my script, go to sleep, come to work, study my script — that kind of thing.”

The scope of the series will grow, too, as Aang and Team Avatar must navigate the complexities of the Earth Kingdom. “It’s definitely going to be a lot more action-packed and emotional,” Cormier says. “There are going to be some scenes that push the audience to tears, but also make them laugh.”

Of course, one of the most anticipated additions is Toph, a character brought to life by Miya Cech. “She fits right in now,” Cormier says of their dynamic. “We have a new member of the family.” As a longtime fan of the animated series, he’s excited for fans to meet Cech on screen. “She’s playing Toph the way I pictured it,” he says. “I’m really stoked.”

Even Aang’s costume reflects the season’s evolution. His familiar robes return — but they’re rougher, patched, and lengthened, complete with a larger cape. “Honestly, that OG costume, just all extended and super worn looking, is my favorite,” Cormier says.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 will stream in 2026.

Update (1/29/26) - via Tudum:

Fall in Love with XO, Kitty Season 3

Kitty and her friends will return to KISS in 2026.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. There’s a third season of XO, Kitty in store for you! And this just in — Season 3 will premiere in 2026!

That’s a wrap on Season 3!

But that’s not all! Three new cast members are joining XO, Kitty Season 3: Sule Thelwell (Saint X) will play Marius; Soy Kim (Like a French Film, Sorry Not Sorry) will play Yisoo; and Christine Hwang (Law and Order: SVU) will play Gigi. Meanwhile, Hojo Shin, who plays Jiwon, has been upped to a series regular.

Returning cast members include Anna Cathcart (Kitty Song Covey), Minyeong Choi (Dae), Gia Kim (Yuri), Sang Heon Lee (Min Ho), Anthony Keyvan (Q), Regan Aliyah (Juliana), Hojo Shin (Jiwon), Peter Thurnwald (Alex), Joshua Lee (Jin), Sasha Bhasin (Praveena), Michael K. Lee (Professor Lee), Philippe Lee (Mr. Moon), Jocelyn Shelfo (Madison), Han Bi Ryu (Eunice), and Sunny Oh (Mihee).

Season 2 ended with Kitty getting her scholarship renewed so she can come back to KISS for senior year. She also fulfilled her late mother’s wishes by reuniting her fractured family, discovering relatives she never even knew existed.

And, much to her surprise, this teen matchmaker fell for her ex-boyfriend’s best friend, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), ticking off almost every trope on the rom-com checklist as they went from enemies to friends to could-be lovers. Though their slow-burn romance is still simmering, Kitty asks Min Ho to wait before they part ways for the summer.

As most XO, Kitty fans know, the series is a spin-off inspired by the popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film franchise, which was based on creator and executive producer Jenny Han’s novels of the same name. For Season 3, Valentina Garza will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Executive producers also include Matt Kaplan of ACE Entertainment and Bradley Gardner.

XO, Kitty Season 2 premiered on Jan. 16 and debuted at No. 2 on the English TV List with 14.2 million views. The young adult romantic comedy, produced by Awesomeness Studios and ACE Entertainment, appeared in the Top 10 in 89 countries in its first week. The release also inspired viewers to revisit Season 1 (which resurfaced on the English TV List at No. 6 with 3.1 million views) and the original 2018 To All the Boys film the week after Season 2’s release (which reappeared at No. 6 on the English films list with 3.1 million views).

The new venue opened on Friday, November 28, 2025, following the success of Nickelodeon Play! in Antalya. It is situated within Tersane Istanbul, a large-scale redevelopment project that blends the city’s centuries-old maritime heritage with contemporary urban life.

Designed for children and families, Nickelodeon Play! Tersane Istanbul offers year-round indoor entertainment. Spanning approximately 5,000 square meters, the park features attractions inspired by some of Nickelodeon’s most iconic characters, including SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Visitors can explore interactive play zones, themed activity areas and character meet-and-greet experiences, as well as licensed retail stores. One of the park’s key attractions is Nickelodeon Journeys, a newly introduced multi-sensory “flying theater” simulation. The experience combines motion-based seating with wind and scent effects, offering guests a virtual journey through Nickelodeon’s animated worlds.

The park also includes several themed sections. PAW Patrol: Adventure Bay features slides, towers and teamwork-focused activities, while Dora’s Rainforest invites children to explore colorful environments filled with music and surprises. A dedicated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles zone takes visitors from city streets to underground tunnels, and Bikini Bottom recreates the underwater world of SpongeBob and his friends.

Play can work up an appetite, which is why the venue also boasts two restaurants for hungry guests: Goofy Goobers, themed after the establishment featured in SpongeBob SquarePants, and Mr. Porter's Café, based on the café featured in PAW Patrol.

Beyond entertainment, the project is positioned as an experiential space designed to strengthen emotional connections among visitors. It is also expected to contribute to the cultural and social vitality of Tersane Istanbul, which has emerged as a growing hub for culture, arts and city life.

In addition to Nickelodeon Play!, the area is hosting Tersane Istanbul Winter Town, a seasonal attraction running until Feb. 15, 2026, offering winter-themed experiences that combine the historic atmosphere of the Golden Horn with contemporary leisure activities.

Guests step into Mr. Krabs’ wacky carnival alongside SpongeBob, Patrick, and friends, traveling through a series of interactive challenges, lively visuals, and laugh-out-loud moments. Riders compete for points while helping thwart Plankton’s latest scheme, creating a repeatable, high-energy experience that appeals to guests of all ages.

A Proven Anchor Attraction

“This attraction hits the sweet spot for operators,” said John Wood, President and Chairman of Sally Dark Rides. “It’s the ‘Goldilocks’ of dark rides: not too big, not too small, but just right in footprint, fun factor, and price point. It delivers the storytelling and interactivity guests expect from a major theme park experience in a format that works perfectly indoors.”

SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride has evolved into a purpose-built solution, designed specifically for family entertainment centers and positioned as a true anchor attraction for Nickelodeon locations. It's compact footprint strikes an ideal balance between immersive scale, operational efficiency, and guest accessibility. The Istanbul installation marks the third iteration worldwide.

“Seeing partners return for additional units is the strongest endorsement we can receive,” added John Wood. “It proves the ride drives attendance, extends dwell time, and consistently delivers guest satisfaction.”
