Bad Seeds | Original Harvey Beaks Pilot From 2013 | Nickelodeon

Check out the original unaired pilot episode of Nickelodeon's popular original animated series Harvey Beaks (Bad Seeds) from 2013!:

Harvey Beaks: The Original Pilot (2013) from Ian Saldivar on Vimeo.

Following Nickelodeon picking up the new series, the Harvey Beaks production crew remade the pilot of Harvey Beaks into the episode "Pe-choo!" (#101A), which became the shows series premiere episode. The pilot was written, directed and storyboarded by the shows creator, C.H. Greenblatt.

Although the pilot and series are mostly the same, there are some minor differences between the two:

- In the pilot episode, Technobear started out as an adult character and was originally voiced by C.H. Greenblatt. In the TV series, he is re-animated as a kid and currently voiced by Mason Vaughn;

- Irving was originally voiced by Chris Parnell (As Told by Ginger, Glenn Martin DDS) in the pilot;

- Rooter originally appeared with darker tone of his skin while his face is lighter. His Mohawk is styled as combed behind;

- The Spirit of Wetbark Lake was light greenish with hints of orange in the pilot. But later, his skin color changed to light blue.

- Rooter was seen sitting in front of the waterfall with Jeremy hiding behind the boulders on the right. But in "Pe-Choo!," Technobear takes Rooter's place;

- Tara is brown in the pilot, but in the TV series, her color gets changed to violet;

- Unlike "Pe-Choo!," Fee kidnapped many lake comers, including Technobear, and told them to "hate Harvey" or else she'll allow Foo to take off his shoes and spread his noxious odors at them;

- The pilot, unlike the show, was animated in Flash by Mercury Filmworks in Ottowa, the same company responsible for shows such as Wander Over Yonder and Star vs. the Forces of Evil;

- In the pilot, Harvey and Irving's last name originally was "Tweets"!

Nickelodeon Changes The Name Of "Bad Seeds" To "Harvey Beaks"

Cartoonist C.H. Greenblatt has announced the exciting Nick news in a post on his official Tumblr blog, Nerd Armada, that his upcoming brand-new Nickelodeon animated series will now be called "Harvey Beaks"!

Originally titled "Bad Seeds", C.H. Greenblatt and Nickelodeon had to choose another name for their all-new animated show due to trademark issues. Following discussions, Nickelodeon thought it would be best to name the series after the shows main character, Harvey.

C.H. Greenblatt's all-new NickToon follows Harvey, a sweet and well-meaning bird, who makes two new best friends, Fee and Foo, the wildest imps in the forest. Although their friendship seems unlikely, their connection only grows as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into endless adventures. The show, which is created, written and directed by C.H. Greenblatt ("SpongeBob SquarePants", "Chowder"), is expected to premiere on Nickelodeon USA later this year, however, it is currently unknown whether the shows trademark issues will delay the shows debut. Nickelodeon picked up the series for 26 episodes in September 2013.

To celebrate his brand-new Nickelodeon shows' all-new name, C.H. Greenblatt has shared six fantastic backgrounds from "Harvey Beaks" on his official Tumblr blog!:

Art Director: Bill Dely

BG designers: Eirik Paye, Ben Lee, & Peter DeLuca

BG Painters: Rohner Segnitz, Chris Near, & Ben Lee

Nickelodeon To Change The Name Of "Bad Seeds"

Cartoonist C.H. Greenblatt has announced the Nick news in a post on his official Tumblr blog, Nerd Armada, that, due to trademark issues, "Bad Seeds" is no longer the show name of his upcoming brand-new Nickelodeon animated series, and that the show is currently untitled.

Greenblatt ("SpongeBob SquarePants", "Chowder"), is expected to premiere on Nickelodeon USA in 2015, however, it is currently unknown whether the shows trademark issues will delay the shows debut. Nickelodeon picked up the series for 26 episodes in September 2013.

It isn't uncommon for a show in development to change it's name. Nickelodeon's upcoming brand-new live-action series "Bella and the Bulldogs", due to premiere in January 2015, was originally titled "Bella and the Bullfrogs", "SpongeBob SquarePants" was originally intended to be called "SpongeBoy Ahoy!", but that name was already trademarked, and "iCarly" was very nearly named "iSam" and "iJosie.com", however, those domains were already registered. Had Dan Schneider been able to buy iSam.com, Carly and Sam would likely have been named Sam and Kira, respectively, which were the characters in the original pilot script.

Along with his "Bad Seeds" name change announcement, C.H. Greenblatt also shared a fantastic piece of artwork from his upcoming Nickelodeon show which he made for the back of the Nickelodeon business cards when production started. C.H. Greenblatt mentions that the shows style has evolved a bit since the art was created:

Nickelodeon UK Previews Nick's 2014 Animation Highlights

The animation news website Toon Zone is reporting the very exciting Nickelodeon News in the following article that Nickelodeon UK, the number one commercial kids TV network in the UK, recently held a special press event in which Nick UK outlined Nickelodeon's animation highlights for the year ahead (2014)!

Speaking live from LA to present a run-down of the networks coming year's animation output were Rich Magallanes (Senior Vice President Animation, Current Series), Ciro Nieli & Peter Hastings (Executive Producers, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"), Ant Ward (Supervising Producer, "TMNT") and Brandon Auman (Story Editor, "TMNT").

Rich began Nickelodeon's special preview event by mentioning Nick's success in animation had been founded on inventive, creator driven content such as "Ren & Stimpy", "Rugrats" and "Doug", and how a new generation of creators who had grown up with these shows and an awareness of Nick's identity were now bringing the next wave to life. The first example of this is "Sanjay and Craig", currently airing on Nickelodeon channels worldwide. This will swiftly be followed by the CG-animated series "Rabbids Invasion", a spin off of Ubisoft's wildly successful video games franchise. Currently rolling out on Nickelodeon channels worldwide, including on NickToons UK & Ireland on Monday 3rd February 2014 at 4:30pm and Nickelodeon Australia & New Zealand from Tuesday 28th January 2014. Dialogue free and driven by slapstick comedy, each episode will contain three 7-minute stories as the Rabbids cause chaos in their exploration of the planet.

This was followed by Nickelodeon's upcoming brand-new original animated series (Nicktoon) "Breadwinners", which will premiere on Nick USA on Saturday 22nd February 2014 at 11am (ET/PT) and later on Nickelodeon's international channels, including Nick UK. Created by Steve Borst and Gary DiRaffale, the animated comedy series focuses on energetic duck buddies SwaySway and Buhdeuce as they deliver bread in their rocket van on their planet Pondgea. It series is Flash animated, with the onscreen action timed to flow with the music soundtrack for a unique experience.

Previewed next was Carl Greenblatt's "Bad Seeds". Greenblatt is famous for his previous show "Chowder" in addition to working on several other popular animated series including Nickelodeon's mega hit "SpongeBob SquarePants" and Cartoon Networks "Billy & Mandy". Described by Rich as 'naughty but nice', "Bad Seeds" focuses on the friendship between Harvey, a sweet natured bird boy, and trouble making orphan twin siblings Fee and Foo, with Harvey attempting to help the pair fit in with a community that looks down on them.

The last new comedy series previewed was "Pig Goat Banana Cricket". Created by Johnny Ryan and Dave Cooper, both comic artists who worked on several issues of Nickelodeon Magazine, each episode will be split into one story for each of the titular eccentric roommates; naive Pig, bohemian Goat, selfish Banana and mad scientist Cricket.

Before speaking to the panel of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" producers guests were treated to a viewing of an upcoming episode of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" season 2, "Attack of the Squirrelanoids". Making its UK debut on NickToons at 9:30am on Saturday 25th January 2014, it's a tribute to "Aliens" and pulp sci-fi comics in which our heroes must face a ninja's natural enemy - mutant squirrels. Scary, funny and of course booyakasha, it shows that season two is set to be a epic one.

Counter balancing the comedic focus of the aforementioned shows will be the ongoing second season of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". As established in the season premiere, the four mutant Heroes in a Half-Shell turtle brothers will be on an ongoing quest to secure the many canisters of Kraang-produced mutagen scattered across New York. The quest will see a range of fascinating and freaky new mutants appear before the turtles, with certain familiar faces amongst them. Many more mutations will follow, running from dramatic to comedic.

As the stakes rise higher and the battle extends further, the brothers gain a new ally in the form of teen vigilante Casey Jones, voiced by Nickelodeon Star Josh Peck ("Drake & Josh"). An iconic character who has been present in many past TMNT incarnations, the producers are very excited to bring him into the new show and explore how he interacts with the already established main cast (even if his trademark potty mouth won't be coming with him).

Episodes of the show take roughly one year from conception through to completion, with a new episode being started roughly every two weeks. Combined with the nature of CG animation, the producers estimate TMNT has three times as many staff as other animated shows.

No firm plans are currently set for the upcoming 30th anniversary of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in May 2014 but work is underway to make it a celebration fans will be happy with.

Concerning potential guest stars, Ciro and many of the team are big horror movie fans which has led to actively casting horror movie alumni in the show, such as Jeffrey Combs as Rat King. They'd like to continue that trend and cast actors including Doug Bradley of "Hellraiser" fame. Ultimately, however, the crew are committed to casting strong performances that can help create interesting characters.

In terms of the frequent fan requests to bring back older characters, there are several the crew would love to bring into the current series so long as they can be made to work in the story. They comb through tons of incarnations for inspiration such as the Archie comics and roleplaying games (and joked about the more infamous "Coming Out Of Their Shells" Tour and live action Christmas video).

Lots of work goes into the prop design, partly because CG animation allows props and settings to be reused far more easily than hand drawn animation. As a result the designers and animators instil several hidden jokes into props such as posters and food packaging. They note that eagle-eyed viewers who paid attention in season one will have found graffiti left by Casey across the city, well in advance of his actual debut.

All told it looks to be a very strong year for Nickelodeon with some very intriguing and visually dynamic shows in the pipeline. For Turtle Heads, the fun has only just begun and there will be some more big moments and fun ideas before season two rolls to a close. What does that tease entail, exactly? You'll need to keep watching to find out!

From Toon Zone:
Toonzone Attends Nickelodeon UK's 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Animation Reveal

Before speaking to the panel of TMNT producers we viewed an upcoming episode of season 2, ‘Attack of the Squirrelanoids’. Making its UK debut at 9:30am 25th January on Nicktoons, it’s a love letter to Aliens and pulp sci-fi comics in which our heroes must face a ninja’s natural enemy- mutant squirrels. Scary, funny and of course awesome, it shows that season 2 is set to be a good one.

Speaking live from LA to present a run-down of the coming year’s animation output were Rich Magallanes (Senior Vice President Animation, Current Series), Ciro Nieli & Peter Hastings (Executive Producers, TMNT), Ant Ward (Supervising Producer, TMNT) and Brandon Auman (Story Editor, TMNT).

Rich began by mentioning Nick’s success in animation had been founded on inventive, creator driven content such as Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats and Doug. A new generation of creators who had grown up with these shows and an awareness of Nick’s identity were now bringing the next wave to life. The first example of this is Sanjay and Craig, airing currently in the US and the UK. This will swiftly be followed by Rabbids Invasion, a spin off of Ubisoft’s popular games franchise which will make its UK debut on Nicktoons Monday 3rd February at 4:30pm. Dialogue free and driven by slapstick comedy, each episode will contain three 7-minute stories as the Rabbids cause chaos in their exploration of the planet.

This was followed by Breadwinners, launching soon in the US and due to air later in the UK. Created by Steve Borst and Gary DiRaffale, the comedy series focuses on energetic duck buddies SwaySway and Buhdeuce as they deliver bread in their rocket van. It will be Flash animated, with the onscreen action timed to flow with the music soundtrack for a unique experience.

Next was Carl Greenblatt’s Bad Seeds. Greenblatt is famous for his previous show Chowder in addition to working on several other populated animated series including Spongebob and Billy & Mandy. Described by Rich as ‘naughty but nice’, Bad Seeds will focus on the friendship between sweet natured bird boy Harvey and trouble making orphan twin siblings Fee and Foo, with Harvey attempting to help the pair fit in with a community that looks down on them.

The last comedy series previewed was Pig Goat Banana Cricket. Created by Johnny Ryan and Dave Cooper, both comic artists who worked on several issues of Nickelodeon Magazine, each episode will be split into one story for each of the titular eccentric roommates; naïve Pig, bohemian Goat, selfish Banana and mad scientist Cricket.

Counter balancing the comedic focus of the aforementioned shows will be the ongoing second season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As established in the season premiere, the Turtles will be on an ongoing quest to secure the many canisters of Kraang-produced mutagen scattered across New York. The quest will see a range of fascinating and freaky new mutants appear before the turtles, with certain familiar faces amongst them. Toonzone would like to thank Nickelodeon UK for arranging this opportunity and the collective producers for taking the time to speak with us.

New episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles air every Saturday at 9:30am on Nicktoons UK, continuing 25th January with ‘Attack of the Squirrelanoids’.
