PlaySquare to develop touchable television
Looking to make the television experience for kids more active than passive, TV and technology industry veterans Alex Kay, Scott Webb and Tinsley Galyean have launched a new company called PlaySquare that will develop tablet-based Touchable Television.
Using a new proprietary technology and interface design, PlaySquare's Touchable Television can take existing children's video libraries and convert them into interactive experiences for the iPad.
PBS literacy-themed kids series WordWorld has signed on as PlaySquare's first licensee and a free iPad app was released today on the Apple App Store.
Kay, who co-founded the Ready to Learn Partnership, is PlaySquare's CEO, while Webb, who served as Nickelodeon's creative director of for 17 years, is CCO, and Galyean, an acclaimed technologist and artist whose clients have included Disney and Discovery Kids, is the company’s CTO.
Former Sesame Workshop children's media specialist Tina Peel has also signed on as an advisor and executive producer. Peel brings 15 years of experience from the Workshop, where she was the VP and project director of Ghostwriter and Sesame Street and VP of production research.
She was also an executive producer on Nick Jr. series Max and Ruby and EVP of WordWorld.
