Update (11/13): Kel Mitchell opened up about what led to his hospitalization earlier this week.
“I’m good, I’m here, I’m smiling, I’m with my family, I’m at home,” the Good Burger 2 star took to Instagram to share. His latest post follows a health scare from Tuesday (Oct. 7) which he described as "truly frightening."
“For those curious about recent events and my well-being, appreciate the concern and sending love your way. This should bring some clarity,” the caption reads.
In the video, Mitchell detailed the day of his health scare.
“I was out shopping when suddenly the whole room started spinning,” he said. “So I was like, ‘I must be dehydrated so I need to go get some water, some food.’ When I did that, the whole right side of my arm was numb, followed by me not being able to swallow. That’s when I panicked. And so I drove myself to the hospital, ” which he said he wouldn’t advise anyone to do under those circumstances.
After reaching the medical center, "I failed the arm and leg test. So that was raising fears of something more serious because I could not move my right arm, my motor skills were not working. So CT scan, EKG, everything they started doing on me, that’s why I had to stay overnight [at the hospital]," Mitchell said.
The actor revealed that the cause of his distress was a bulging disc from a previous injury, pressing against a nerve and mimicking severe symptoms. Grateful for his recovery, he expressed thanks for the prayers and support received as he’d done all week since the incident: on the day the news surfaced, Mitchell reassured his fans of his well-being following a "frightening experience."
"Grateful for the flood of prayers and positive vibes that surrounded me during a genuinely frightening time,” his initial post stated. “The scare was real, but so was the support. With the grace of God and the skill of the medical team, I'm now on the road to recovery at home, embraced by the love of my family."
Update (11/10): Kel Mitchell announced Thursday (Nov. 9) that he is home and recovering after he was hospitalized this week after a health scare.
“Grateful for the flood of prayers and positive vibes that surrounded me during a genuinely frightening time,” the Good Burger actor wrote in a statement posted on his Instagram account late Wednesday evening. The post did not disclose what prompted his hospital visit.
“The scare was real, but so was the support,” he continued. “With the grace of God and the skill of the medical team, I’m on the road to recovery at home, embraced by the love of my family. Your kindness has been a lifeline, and I can’t thank you enough. Much love to each of you.”
Representatives for Mitchell did not immediately respond to reporters' requests for comment.
Other stars celebrated Mitchell’s return home, with fellow All That alum Kenan Thompson, as well as gospel singer and actress Yolanda Adams, leaving prayer emojis in the comment section of Mitchell’s recent post. Damon Wayans wrote, “Glad you’re feeling better my brother,” and Drake & Josh's Yvette Nicole Brown, said, “Glad you’re on the mend, friend!”

Kel Mitchell was hospitalized in Los Angeles, according to reports. It has been reported that the 45-year-old Nickelodeon alum entered a hospital in Los Angeles on Tuesday (Nov. 7) night through the emergency room, TMZ reports.
When he arrived at the hospital, the All That star appeared to be awake and alert, a witness told the outlet. According to TMZ, Mitchell is still receiving treatment as of Wednesday night, and it is unclear when he will be released or what his current condition is.
In his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Mitchell shared promotional posts related to his upcoming appearance on Celebrity Squares as well as his upcoming role in Paramount+'s forthcoming film Good Burger 2, in which he will reprise his iconic role as Ed, a fast food cashier, alongside his coworker and friend, Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson).
During the 1990s, Mitchell starred in Nickelodeon's series All That before teaming up with SNL's Thompson for Kenan & Kel. As well as their success with their comedy show, the pair starred in the burger film Good Burger, the sequel to which is set to premiere on Paramount+ later this month.
The former Nickelodeon star had suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts after his marriage to Tyisha Hampton fell apart in 2004, which led to him turning to drugs. "As a young actor, there are ups and downs," he later told People. "And when you get to that down part, there are times you feel like no one can relate to you. When Britney Spears shaved her head, I understood that. After my divorce, I just felt like life was not working out.
Nevertheless, Mitchell's fortune began to change soon after he became the stage manager of a nondenominational church in Los Angeles after feeling "lost and looking for answers." Mitchell claims to have turned to God for aid in getting him out of his dark place.
"Before, it was just about me, but now it is more about Christ," he shared. "That's when things started to turn around in my life. I went through a rough time, but now I have peace."
Mitchell is now remarried to a designer and rapper Asia Lee, and he has a positive relationship with his two children from his first marriage, son Lyric, 16, and daughter Allure, 13. "I enjoy living this life," he said. "I don't let things frustrate or worry me anymore. I don't do that because I have peace in my heart."
