Nickelodeon USA To Air Special "One Direction" Documentary Titled "A Year In The Making" On Saturday 14th July 2012

UPDATE (Saturday 14th July 2012) for Nickelodeon USA viewers and US Directioners - If you're a DirecTV customer/subscriber and worried you might miss the new 'One Direction' documentary called "A Year in the Making" on Nickelodeon tonight at 8/7c due to Viacom's ongoing dispute with the North American satellite broadcasting service DirecTV, Nickelodeon USA has announced on their official Twitter profile page (@NickelodeonTV) that after Nickelodeon USA shows the special 'One Direction' documentary called "A Year in the Making" on television tonight at 8/7c, Nickelodeon North America will be posting the whole "One Direction: A Year in the Making" documentary special up on the official Nickelodeon USA website, Nick.com, from 9/8c for Nickelodeon viewers who are also DirecTV customers. Click here for more information.

One Direction documentary to make U.S. premiere on Nickelodeon

On Tuesday I posted that Nickelodeon would be airing a one hour concert special dedicated to One Direction on July 14. Today the network tweeted that the special would actually be "One Direction: A Year in the Making," the documentary the band filmed last year and aired on UK television.

“One Direction: A Year in the Making,” features band members Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson on their journey to fame over their first year as a group in the UK. It features behind the scenes and exclusive footage as well as interviews with each of the members as they talk about what it was like going from auditioning as individuals on The X-Factor in the UK to being put together as a group by the judges. The documentary follows the band into practice sessions and showing sides of the band often not captured by the cameras.

Lots has changed for the band since this documentary was filmed, such as a #1 album worldwide, including having one of the top five albums of the year so far here in the U.S., they've completed their first headlining tour and are getting ready for a 2013 World Tour which stops by Pepsi Center next July.

This likely won't be the only 1D television special we see on Nickelodeon in the future. Nickelodeon announced at their network upfront event in March that they signed a program development deal with the band. Since then, the band's image has been noticeably higher on the networks of Nickelodeon. 1D hosted Saturday nights on the network throughout the month of March and was even the headline performers at the network's annual Kids Choice Awards. The boys even put their acting skills to the test for the network when they guest starred on the hit Nickelodeon comedy “iCarly” back in April.

"One Direction: A Year in the Making" makes it U.S. television debut Saturday, July 14 at 8/7c on Nickelodeon.
Also from Examiner.com:
[...] the authorized TV documentary "One Direction: A Year in the Making" (which originally aired in the U.K. in November 2011 on ITV2) is finally going to get a U.S. TV premiere on Nickelodeon, which has a development deal with One Direction. Nickelodeon announced that its premiere of the documentary is scheduled for July 14, 2012, at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time, after the network airs a repeat of the "iCarly" episode "I Go One Direction," which features a guest appearance by One Direction. Nickelodeon does not plan to add new footage to the documentary, which premiered in the U.K. after One Direction's first album, "Up All Night," was released in the U.K. and Ireland, but before the album was released in the U.S. and several other countries. Of course, many devoted One Direction fans outside of Europe have already seen this documentary, since bootlegged copies have been available on the Internet.

The unauthorized documentary "One Direction: The Only Way Is Up" is set for a direct-to-DVD release in the U.S. on August 7, 2012, and in other countries on July 16, 2012. Based on [the] trailer for the DVD, don't expect the DVD to have any new interviews with One Direction, and expect a lot of filler footage of people talking about One Direction. And since it is a cheaply made unauthorized documentary, One Direction's original music won't be in the documentary. Instead, the documentary will have karaoke background music that sounds similar to One Direction songs. Of course, there are fans that will buy anything that has One Direction's name on it, but if you want a more insightful look at the band, "One Direction: A Year in the Making" is a much better choice to watch, even if the documentary is outdated.

Nickelodeon Star And "iCarly" Actress Jennette McCurdy Discusses The Final Episodes Of The Hit Nickelodeon Show "iCarly" And About Her Brand New Nickelodeon Show

The USA teenage style magazine "Teen Vogue" recently talked to Nickelodeon Star and "iCarly" actress Jennette McCurdy about the end of the hit Nickelodeon sitcom "iCarly" and about her brand new Nickelodeon Show, which will be created by hit Nickelodeon TV show creator Dan Schneider, the creator of the hit Nickelodeon shows "ICarly", "Victorious", "Drake & Josh", "The Amanda Show", and "Zoey 101", which Jennette McCurdy will film the pilot for in August 2012.

From Teen Vogue:
actress jennette mccurdy on the end of icarly and her new nickelodeon show

the 20-year-old actress reveals how she feels about saying goodbye to best friend miranda cosgrove and what it's like to work with emma stone.

What can we expect from the final episodes of iCarly?

"We have a crossover episode with Jimmy Fallon where the iCarly cast goes to New York to be on his show. It's probably one of my favorite episodes ever. We have an episode where Emma Stone makes an appearance -- she plays a mega iCarly fan and is so funny. Our final episode has a good closer for the iCarly fans that have been with us from the beginning. There will be some questions answered and tears shed!"

What else have you been working on?

"I actually have a new show that I'm starring in. I'm taping the pilot in August, and it's run and created the creator of iCarly, Drake & Josh, and Zoey 101 — all the great Nickelodeon shows of the past decade!"

What music are you currently listening to?

"I'm super late to the game with Katy Perry. Miranda Cosgrove has been like, 'You've got to listen to Katy Perry,' so finally I downloaded her albums, and I'm enamored with her. I listen to every single song. I'm looking up tour dates of when I can go see her."

You've grown up with your iCarly castmates. How does it feel to say goodbye?

"We've spent every single day of the past five years together. Miranda's my best friend—she's such a sweetheart, and there's nobody funnier than her. I'm very sad to see this experience coming to an end, but I know that I'll still see her all the time."

Funnier and with more Ninjutsu than ever before, the show will explore the companionship of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be. The premiere episode was executive produced by Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin & Jeff Ventimilia and Peter Hastings.

Considered one of the most popular kids' television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property also has translated into a significant consumer products business - with DVDs, video games, toys and more--that has generated billions of dollars at retail.

Nickelodeon, now in its 33rd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in more than 100 million households and has been the number-one-rated basic cable network for 17 consecutive years. And now the countdown to the actual series can officially begin because the premiere date has been set.

Executive produced by Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin and J.R. Vengtimilia, the CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will bring Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael back to the small screen, with actors Sean Astin, Jason Biggs, Greg Cipes and Rob Paulsen among those set to voice roles in the series. Parenthood's Mae Whitman is on board to voice the role of April O'Neil. The trailer promises more martial arts fighting and pizza-craving for the turtles, as well as the threat of Shredder.

Entertainment Weekly shared the news today, stating that Nick would make the official announcement on Saturday but that the series is set to make its debut on Nickelodeon on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. with two back-to-back (shell-to-shell?) episodes. So, I should probably touch on why I've been virtually AWOL. Along with my telly partner in crime Jamie Rickers and Olympic gold medalist Denise Lewis - plus a team of 70 people - we've just finished filming the next series of hit Nickelodeon show Camp Orange. Due to air from August 16, this series is bigger, harsher, more challenging, scarier and downright better than ever before.

The stakes have been raised, and the teams have been chosen to reflect the demands placed on them. Now, I can't tell you exactly what happens, you'll just have to tune in - but I can tell you that this years winner will be decided by you. A totally interactive show that sees you the viewer decide the fate of the battling teams.

A terrific week was had by all, long days, harsh terrain, rivers, rapids, creepy crawlies, mosquito bites creating their own dot-to-dot on my face (!) and some terrific team banter awaits. Oh and for the first time in my life, real fear causes me to burst into tears on camera. All that for your viewing pleasure next month.

Back to civilisation this week [...]
