In honor of National Civics Day, the First Lady of the United States and Nickelodeon will announce a new short-form television series to teach kids about civics.
In celebration of National Civics Day, Jill Biden will visit Philadelphia on Friday, October 27 and join Nickelodeon and media company ATTN: to announce a new animated kids show that will have viewers singing about civics.
The Oct. 27 holiday marks the day the Federalist Papers were published in 1787.
Biden is a longtime educator who became the first first lady to work full-time outside the White House and teaches at Northern Virginia Community College. Her relationship with Nickelodeon goes back to 2022, when she paid tribute to military families through a video message broadcast on the network’s Kids’ Choice Awards, with an introduction by iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove, who co-hosted that year's ceremony alongside NFL superstar Rob Gronkowski.
The new short-form series being announced Friday, called Well Versed, will teach kids about democracy and the U.S. Bill of Rights through original pop songs. The series features 12 music videos that will be available across Nickelodeon platforms, Paramount+, and Noggin, starting Wednesday, October 26.
The lessons were created in partnership with iCivics, a national nonprofit founded by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor that develops free nonpartisan online games and resources designed to help young Americans learn about civic life. As many as 145,000 educators and 9 million students use iCivics material each year, according to the company.
Well Versed music videos cover topics like rules and disagreements for kids ages 2-5, and the Bill of Rights and branches of government for children ages 6-11. The videos and learning guides are available for free on the iCivics website.
Along with the first lady, Shari Redstone, chair of Paramount Global, Matthew Sega, co-CEO of ATTN:, and Brian Robbins, president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, will make remarks at the announcement Friday.
And Biden isn’t the only first lady embracing the new show. Former first lady Laura Bush will deliver remarks through a video message.
Biden, who was born across the Delaware River in Hammonton, N.J., and grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Willow Grove, often touts her Philly connections.
She will be integral to President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, and with November 2024 barely over a year away, is expected to make many more visits to the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
Frequent visitors to the Philadelphia area for both political and family visits, the presidential couple attended their granddaughter Maisy’s graduation together in May at the University of Pennsylvania, which several of their grandchildren have attended.
The president has visited Philadelphia eight times this year. Most recently, he came this month to announce funding for hydrogen energy projects.

'Fatal Attraction' and 'Rabbit Hole' MICHAEL MORIATIS/PARAMOUNT+; MARNI GROSSMAN/PARAMOUNT+
Paramount+ continues to thin its roster of scripted originals.
The Paramount Global-backed service has canceled its Fatal Attraction reboot as well as its Kiefer Sutherland-led drama Rabbit Hole. Both shows, which ran for one season each, will continue to remain on the platform rather than being pulled from the service completely.
“Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will not be returning for second seasons on Paramount+. We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life. Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover,” a Paramount+ spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fatal Attraction, a reboot of the Glenn Close and Michael Douglas psychosexual thriller, starred Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson and was produced in-house by Paramount Television Studios. The series, from showrunner Alexandra Cunningham (Dirty John) did not garner favorable reviews despite its star power. It has a 37 percent rating among critics and 71 percent score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
Rabbit Hole, meanwhile, was ordered straight to series in mid-2021 and was also produced in-house by CBS Studios. The series marked Sutherland’s return to television after ABC-turned-Netflix drama Designated Survivor and hailed from This Is Us duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra. The show marked a reunion at the time for Sutherland and former Paramount Global exec David Nevins, who previously developed 24. Nevins exited the company last year after more than a decade.
Rabbit Hole garnered more favorable reviews, with a 76 percent and 86 percent score among critics and viewers, respectively. (Paramount+, like other streamers, does not release traditional viewership data.)
Fatal Attraction, which Cunningham was hoping to continue with a second season, and Rabbit Hole become the latest cancellations to come at Paramount+ and join the recently axed iCarly sequel, Star Trek: Prodigy (which found a new home at Netflix), Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game and the unscripted show Queen of the Universe. The latter four shows, in addition to being canceled, were also removed from Paramount+ as the streamer, like others, took advantage of a tax write-off, although Star Trek: Prodigy season one will be made available on Netflix as part of the deal, which will also see the unreleased second season arrive next year. Also removed from the platform was Inside Amy Schumer, Tell Me a Story and scores of originals and library shows from Nickelodeon.
Amid an uncertain economy, streamers and networks alike have been reviewing their slates of pricey scripted originals as their parent companies look to rightsize their rosters in an effort to be more fiscally responsible. The moves have largely brought an end to the so-called Peak TV wave and the free spending that came with it.

Episode 409: “The Inner Fight” – Available to stream Thursday, October 26

The fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is getting close to the end with the release of the penultimate episode this week. We have the first images from the episode, but details are so far being held back.
Paramount+ has released a set of images for episode 409 but they did not release any other details, not even the title of the episode. It appears that there is a concern about anything spoiling the episode. At New York Comic Con last weekend, showrunner Mike McMahan talked about his concerns over leaks for episodes 9 and 10:
“The last couple of episodes for this season are a big swing and I am really proud of them and I cannot wait for you to see them. We held them off [from the press] because I don’t even want a breath of what happens in them to get out. And it just feels like the ultimate Star Trek, the ultimate Lower Decks.”
We don’t have a synopsis for the episode, but in his NYCC TrekMovie interview, McMahan specifically highlighted episode 409 when asked if he has a favorite episode for the series:
“For comedy, I think the first “Crisis Point” might be my favorite. But for heart, I think this upcoming episode 9 is my favorite.”
The one thing we do know is episode 409 arrives on Paramount+ on Thursday, October 26.
A couple things can be gleaned from the images released, available below courtesy of TrekMovie.com, including how the episode features the return of the T’Lyn. Another thing that can be seen are some Federation Outpost Scientists, like the ones that had a recruitment booth set up in the Lower Decks season 3 episode “Reflections.”
