First-ever SpongeBob SquarePants Themed Dark Ride is a Fun-Filled Interactive Adventure

It’s here! Today Sally Dark Rides, the globally recognized leader in creating family dark rides and attractions, is celebrating the grand opening of its newest interactive adventure “SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride!”

The zany underwater world of SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends has come to life in an entirely new way exclusively at the family-favorite resort Circus Circus Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first of its kind themed-interactive ride starring SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends has been the talk of the town – and the industry – since it was announced in November 2023.

Complete with the zany antics, competitive game play and hijinks from the characters of the beloved Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants, “SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride” is ready to surprise and delight guests of all ages.

Riders are immersed in the world of Bikini Bottom, complete with vibrant sets, special effects and vivid integrated projections. The fully interactive new ride includes six of Sally’s world-class animatronics, bringing the iconic SpongeBob characters to life in a whole new way.

“We are so proud to be here today,” said John Wood, President of Sally Dark Rides. “This incredible project has excited our entire team from Day 1. We thank Circus Circus, Nickelodeon and Paramount for trusting us to create this original tale with SpongeBob SquarePants, Mr. Krabs, Patrick and their friends. Sally is known for bringing beloved brands to life and it’s been an honor develop an entirely new experience with these lovable and silly cast of characters.”

Throughout the interactive attraction, Mr. Krabs invites riders to try their luck at a collection of midway games as they move through his new money-making carnival. SpongeBob and Patrick who are trying to assist him, accidentally grab boxes of Krabby Patty ingredients instead of the carnival game equipment.  The devious Plankton sees an opportunity to steal the 'Krabby Patty' recipe and the result is a hilarious experience for guests of all ages.

"The partnership and collaboration we shared with Sally Dark Rides and Circus Circus has been truly remarkable,” said Marie Marks, SVP, Themed Entertainment, Paramount. “From the very beginning we knew we were creating something special, and we are ready to welcome fans of SpongeBob SquarePants to this fun-filled new ride.”

“SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride” seamlessly transports guests through 15 unique and colorful scenes on 5-passenger ride vehicles called “Carnival Carts.” Special effects include scent, multi-media projections, and interactive targets.

'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2' Devs Release Patch 1.7

The developers of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 have released details of the game's 1.7 patch, which went live on March 1. Check out the patch notes below!:

UPDATE 1.7: ROTATION MODE, NEW STAGE LAYOUTS, ITEMS AND MORE!

NEW CONTENT!

• New Game Mode – Rotation: 3 to 4 players can play in a King of the Hill 1v1 style of gameplay, where anytime a player is KO’d it goes to the waiting list, and the next player enters the fight. All seamless during the match. It can be played with Stocks or Timed variants.
• New Stage: Added Clean, Double, and Triangle layouts for Food Dreams.

• Ring of Rage and Crown of Fire: When both are obtained, all attacks ignore Block and Super Armor.
• The Secret Formula and Krabby Patty Ingredients: When both are obtained it enables the chance for The Perfect Krabby Patty to appear.

• Lawn Gnome: Throw the gnome and watch it follow you as it creates an electrical field in between you and him, electrifying opponents.
• Ultra Snowzooka: Grab and shoot different sized snowballs depending on how long you hold the Light Attack button.

• Fixed an issue where Projectiles and Items hitboxes would trade against character hitboxes where they were supposed to be destroyed instead.
• Fixed an issue where Projectiles got stuck on platforms as they traveled through them.

• Fixed an issue where GIR was crashing the game shortly after being deployed.

Noggin Set to Shutter As Paramount Lays Off Service's Entire Team

A popular destination for Nickelodeon hits, licensed content and 1,000-plus interactive videos/games, the app will be phased out soon and its programming shifted to Paramount+.

Paramount Global is shutting down Nickelodeon’s subscription-based Noggin app and has laid off its entire team, Kidscreen is reporting. 

The SVOD service for two- to seven-year-olds had 2.5 million global subscribers in 2019 (four years after launch) and houses more than 1,000 educational games, videos and books in its library, some of which will soon be homeless. One of the app’s most recent launches that rolled out in December is Nogginville, an immersive digital world where kids can visit iconic locations from the broader Nickelodeon universe and play mini-games. 

Noggin also features Nick Jr. preschool juggernauts such as Blue’s Clues and Dora the Explorer, as well as third-party acquisitions like JoJo and Gran Gran (BBC Studios Kids & Family, A Productions) and Little Bear (Nelvana). This long- and short-form video programming will be shifted over to Paramount+ under the Nick Jr. banner.

Noggin will wind down sometime in 2024, with the exact date still to be determined. Noggin will no longer be taking new subscribers, and there will be a transition period for current subscribers.

The news is surprising, as Paramount had previously said that they were keen to keep Noggin open as it offers interactive elements that Paramount+ doesn't offer.

The news also comes as Paramount shuttered most of its OTT apps, including the Nick App and Nick Jr. App last month.

Paramount Global is in the midst of laying off 800 employees (representing about 3% of its workforce) just days after CBS scored a huge ratings success with Super Bowl LVIII, which was watched by around 123 million people across all platforms. 

Despite eliminating the Noggin team, kids and family programming is an important genre and a key piece of the company’s streaming strategy that drives subscriptions, consumption and repeat viewing, according to a Paramount spokesperson. In fact, Nickelodeon’s content for these audiences is consistently among the most watched and re-watched programming on Paramount+, says the source. 

Paramount is set to deliver its Q4 earnings report on February 28, but overall revenue for the third quarter was up by 3% to US$7.1 billion compared to the same period in 2022, despite Paramount+ losing US$238 million.
