Paramount+ Cancels ‘Wolf Pack’ After One Season

Paramount has decided to not move forward with a second season of Wolf Pack, Variety is reporting.

Based on the book series by Edo Van Belkom, Wolf Pack follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are changed forever when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature and drives it to attack a highway traffic jam beneath the burning hills. Wounded in the chaos, the boy and girl are inexplicably drawn to each other and to two other teenagers who were adopted 16 years earlier by a park ranger after another mysterious wildfire. As the full moon rises, all four teens come together to unravel the secret that connects them – the bite and blood of a werewolf.

Wolf Pack cast members include Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson, Tyler Lawrence Gray, Rodrigo Santoro and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Additional cast includes Bailey Stender, Chase Liefeld, Hollie Bahar, Lanny Joon, Rio Mangini, Stella Smith, Zack Nelson, James Martinez, Amy Pietz, Bria Brimmer, John L. Adams and Sean Philip Glasgow.

Written and executive produced by Jeff Davis, the series was produced as part of his multi-year deal with MTV Entertainment Studios. Davis also wrote and produced the Paramount+ original film Teen Wolf: The Movie, which was produced by MTV Entertainment and MGM. In addition to Davis, Joe Genier, Mike Elliott and Karen Gorodetzky served as executive producers for Capital Arts. Jason Ensler, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Christian Taylor served as executive producers.

Wolf Pack season 1 aired in January 2023 alongside the Teen Wolf movie, with the show's freshman run wrapping in March of that year.

Sources say the streamer was keen on doing a second season of the series, hoping that the audience behind the series would have grown from Season 1 to Season 2, but ultimately delays caused by the writers and actors strikes last year would have meant that a sophomore run would not have been ready until 2025. That, sources say, wasn’t going to work for Paramount+ as the platform would have had to spend more to market the show after being off the air for an extended period of time.

Star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who also exec produced the show, told The Hollywood Reporter in March that writing for a potential second season was already underway. “We plan to do one,” she said when asked about a renewal for the show. “We’d like to. We haven’t gotten the official word. I think it’s a tough time right now with the strike coming up. It’s hard, but our numbers have been great and people are still really finding the show and getting excited about it, so I’m hopeful for a season two.”

Paramount+ had high hopes for the series, which launched out of the Teen Wolf: The Movie on the streamer. Belkom shared news of the cancellation Thursday (Jan. 25) and expressed frustration at the yearlong delay in making the official decision.

"Well, after just about a full year of uncertainty, the hammer finally fell today in Hollywood and news came out that Wolf Pack has been officially cancelled," said the author of the book series the show is based on.

Wolf Pack marked Gellar’s first live-action TV role since she played herself during a 2019 episode of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory. The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor last had a series regular role on CBS comedy The Crazy Ones, which ran for one season during the 2013-14 season.

Meanwhile, Paramount+ has yet to make decisions on the futures of scripted series Frasier, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Special Ops: Lioness and the Beavis and Butt-head animated revival.
