BURBANK, Calif.--June 1, 2021--Nickelodeon has revealed a sneak peek of the all-new original series, The Patrick Star Show, a family sitcom starring Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) and the rest of his family, as they are constantly disrupted by Patrick’s wild whims and surreal imagination. Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the 13-episode series will debut this July on Nickelodeon.

The Patrick Star Show is the second spinoff of the number-one animated series SpongeBob SquarePants and follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, The Patrick Star Show (13 episodes) is a family sitcom starring Patrick and the rest of his family as they are constantly disrupted by Patrick’s wild whims and surreal imagination.

Longtime voice of Patrick Star, Fagerbakke lends his voice as the young adult Patrick alongside new cast members: Tom Wilson (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Cecil Star, Patrick’s fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dad who always puts his family first;  Cree Summer (Rugrats) as Bunny Star, Patrick’s loving, sea star mom who is a kooky oddball; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Squidina Star, Patrick’s 8-year-old little sister who drinks her coffee from a sippy cup; and Dana Snyder (The Penguins of Madagascar) as GrandPat Star, Patrick’s genius grandpa, and the most intelligent member of the Star family. Summer also voices Grandma Tentacles, Squidward’s grandma.

Additional cast members include veteran actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton).

Marc Ceccarelli (SpongeBob SquarePants), Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Jennie Monica (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers of the series.  The Patrick Star Show is developed for television by Claudia Spinelli, SVP of Animation Development, Nickelodeon, with production overseen by Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series, Animation, Nickelodeon.

The Patrick Star Show joins spinoff series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, which debuted earlier this year on Paramount+, both marking Nickelodeon’s strategy to be the home of the biggest franchises kids and families love. These series expand Nickelodeon’s growing portfolio of influential properties that already includes SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blue’s Clues & You!, the all-new animated Star Trek: Prodigy series, The Smurfs partnership and the recently announced Transformers co-production.

Since its launch July 17, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has reigned as the number-one animated series on TV for the last 18 years, while generating a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base.  SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in ViacomCBS Networks International history, seen in more than 170 countries and territories, translated in 30+ languages, and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every month. SpongeBob SquarePants was created by Stephen Hillenburg and produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurable optimist and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.

Nickelodeon, now in its 42nd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The brand includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, location based experiences, publishing and feature films. ###

“Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “This second original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”

AND BEN SIMMONS JOIN NICKELODEON’S
NICK NEWS: KIDS, IMMIGRATION AND EQUALITY,
PREMIERING THURSDAY JUNE 17, AT 7:30 P.M. ET/PT

Share it: @Nickelodeon #NickNews

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.–June 11, 2021–Nickelodeon will debut a brand-new installment of its renowned Nick News series, Nick News: Kids, Immigration and Equality, on Thursday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT).  Featuring appearances by J Balvin, Samantha Bee, Padma Lakshmi, Nancy Pelosi and Ben Simmons, among others, the special delves into some of the compelling stories of young people and families whose determination and perseverance in search of a better life represent the ideals that have shaped America into a diverse and dynamic country.

Hosted by CBS News correspondent Jamie Yuccas, the half-hour special also showcases the personal immigration stories and messages of hope from a roster of celebrities, including: Grammy Award-winning recording artist J Balvin, comedian and television host Samantha Bee, television host and advocate Padma Lakshmi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Philadelphia 76ers Guard-Forward Ben Simmons.

“Every immigrant’s story is individual, and yet in the U.S, it is a collective experience many can relate to. In fact, over 25% of kids in the U.S. under the age of 18 have a parent or grandparent that is an immigrant,” said Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, Vice President of News Programming, Nickelodeon and Executive Producer of Nick News. “As we take time to acknowledge the many contributions immigrants have made to the United States, Nick News: Kids, Immigration and Equality aims to platform the stories of these  remarkable individuals and families to highlight our shared history and showcase that despite our perceived differences we are more alike than different.”

Nick News: Kids, Immigration and Equality begins with the story of early immigration in America, detailing the hope for a better life that drove many families to permanently settle in the U.S. The episode also delves into current immigration topics explaining who “Dreamers” are and what the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is.  The segment focuses on the powerful stories of three young community advocates, Luz Chavez-Gonzales of Gaithersburg, Md., Kamau Chege of Seattle, Wash., and Estefany Pineda of East Boston, Mass., who have persevered in search of ‘The American Dream.’

Enrique Acevedo, 60 Minutes+ correspondent, will also take viewers to Hazleton, Pa., a town that over 100 years ago welcomed the European immigrants that fueled its coal mining industry and then faced challenges when some members of the community took issue with and sought to stop Latino immigrants moving to the area in the late 1990s.  However, Joe Maddon Jr., Manager of the Los Angeles Angels, a Hazleton native, sought to turn the page on the divisiveness that overtook his community and help his town heal through the creation of the Hazleton Integration Project (HIP), a community-based center that aims to unite the multicultural residents of Hazleton by offering a myriad of programs, including English as a second language, a series of virtual STEM afterschool classes, sports programs and many others.  The organization’s programs are highlighted through the stories of five kids whose families have emigrated to Hazleton from the Dominican Republic and who have found much needed resources and a sense of community at HIP.

Additional segments include: a mention about former President George W. Bush’s new book, “Out of Many, One: Portraits of America’s Immigrants,” which is a collection of 43 portraits of immigrants painted by Bush. It highlights the inspiring journeys of America’s immigrants and their contributions to THIS nation;  and Time for Kids reporter, Rory Hu is back and tests viewers’ knowledge of civics with questions that all immigrants must answer when taking the test to become a United States citizen. The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, chimes in to answer the question ‘Who would assume control of the country if the President and Vice President of the United States are unable to serve?’

Following the premiere on Nickelodeon, Nick News: Kids Immigration and Equality will be available on Nick.com, Nick App and Nick On Demand beginning June 18 and on the Nickelodeon YouTube channel on June 22.

Nickelodeon’s Nick News has won 10 Emmys, a Peabody, a Columbia DuPont, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for Journalistic Excellence, the first and only time it was given to a children’s program.  The show originally aired for 25 years, ending with the retirement of creator and original host Linda Ellerbee in 2016. Created with a core ethos of respecting its kid audience, the show explained world events in a direct way, especially the tough stuff—including 9/11, The Iraqi Invasion, politics, HIV-AIDS and Hurricane Katrina— and always ensured kids were given a platform to voice their opinions and a safe place to question their world. Nick News made its return last June with a special hour-long presentation Kids, Race and Unity: A Nick News Special, hosted by global superstar Alicia Keys, followed by Nick News: Kids Pick the President, hosted by entertainment powerhouse Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP), which aired in November. Nick News is executive produced by Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, Vice President of News Programming, Nickelodeon and Executive Producer of Nick News.

Miranda Cosgrove Shares Her Thoughts on Jennette McCurdy's Decision Not to Join 'iCarly' Revival

Jennette McCurdy is not returning for the iCarly revival, but there are no hard feelings according to Miranda Cosgrove.

If you're at all worried about any bad blood between Jennette McCurdy and the rest of the iCarly cast, it sounds like you really shouldn't be.

The Nickelodeon series is being revived on Paramount+, and while stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress are all returning, McCurdy has firmly said that she is not. She has retired from acting, and has even spoken about being embarrassed by her role on the beloved series.

While the show's first trailer barely even showed McCurdy in clips from the original series, it's not as if she's being completely erased. She was also very much approached to join the revival, even by her former castmates. Cosgrove told E! News that while she's sad that McCurdy isn't a part of the show, she totally respects her decision to say no.

"We all called her separately and we really wanted her to be a part of it, but at the same time I'm happy for her because I know that she's her life taken her in a different direction and that she's really enjoying what she's doing right now," she says. "So I think we all kind of did what we were probably meant to do."

In an interview with EW, Cosgrove said that Sam's absence will definitely be addressed on screen.

"Definitely, we touch a lot on the whole relationship with Sam and where Sam's at in the pilot episode," she told the magazine. "And then we mention her a little bit throughout the season, so we'll definitely explain that on the show."

EW has also confirmed that Gibby (Noah Munck), Carly's eccentric, often-shirtless friend in the original show, will not return for the revival.

While McCurdy might not be back on the show, she has still been a part of her former castmates' lives since the show originally wrapped. Trainor told E! that he, Cosgrove and McCurdy used to go on hikes or out to lunch together, and still keep in touch.

It was easy, then, for the group to get back together to film, especially since Cosgrove feels like a real little sister to Trainor, though sometimes that relationship gets a little too real.

"Miranda is like my real life little sister, like, she and I talk on the phone, sometimes too much," he shares. "She tells me too much stuff that I don't want to hear, frankly, about her dating life. It's pretty bad and gross. Don't tell her I said that."

As if she could hear him from a completely different Zoom room—and E! promise that they did not tell her he said that, and they didn't even ask about it—Cosgrove confirms that she turns to her TV brother for dating advice.

"We don't live too far from each other and we always keep up with each other and he's always trying to help me with my bad dating stories," she says. "I always call him after a bad date or after something's gone awry, and he helps me, so there's a little bit of that in the show between the characters of Carly and Spencer."

The new iCarly is made for the adults who were kids or teens when the show first aired, meaning Carly's going on dates while Freddie is divorced with a precocious stepdaughter. Spencer is still Spencer, but richer. While it's unfortunate that Sam won't be a part of the show, it's not exactly groundbreaking to imagine that two people who were best friends as teenagers are no longer joined at the hip as adults. Hopefully Sam is off living her best life, watching Carly's influencer journey from afar.

Stay tuned for more on the new iCarly from NickALive!

Nickelodeon Writing Program 2021 to Open for Submissions on July 1

Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, has announced that they are looking for entrants for the 2021-2022 Nickelodeon Writing Program!

Founded in the year 2000, the Nickelodeon Writing Program is a full-time, paid, yearlong development Program for television comedy writers with unique voices and from underrepresented communities. Join Nickelodeon at the studio in Burbank for classes and workshops to sharpen your skills, executive mentorship and networking to build your professional relationships, and the opportunity to work in the iconic live-action and animation writers’ rooms at Nick. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dedicate yourself to the craft of writing and build your career from the ground up. The Nick Writing Program is not a writing contest – It’s a launching pad for diverse and emerging creatives. If you bring the unique voice and innovative ideas for kids’ and family content, Nick will help you launch a career with all the tools you’ll need to succeed in the industry for years to come.

Nickelodeon needs your talent and perspective, so tell them your story!

This year's Nickelodeon Writing Program submission period runs July 1st to August 1st. All submissions must be completed by 11:59pm PST on August 1st. No late submissions will be considered. You must be 18 years or older, and eligible to work in the United States to participate. To apply, visit nickwriting.com and follow the link under the “Apply Online” section, fill out the application through Nick's submission portal, and submit two scripts: One spec from the Program's Accepted Shows List which gets updated every year (watch the Program's social media channels for announcements), and one half-hour original comedy pilot. If you have previously applied to the Program and were not selected, you are welcome and encouraged to apply again with a new spec script for each submission period.

Please note: Usually there is an international track for Nickelodeon, but in 2021 it is not active due to ongoing visa and travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

TRACKS:

When you pick a focus, it helps Nickelodeon curate your experience in the Program to better help you reach your goals as a television writer. Picking a focus does not mean your time in the Program will be spent exclusively working on content for this audience, but simply helps Nickelodeon gauge your interests and set you on a course for success. Your spec and pilot submissions do not need to adhere to these audience age groups in any way.

Kids’ Content (Audience Age 6-11)

This age group is Nickelodeon’s bread and butter. Most of Nickelodeon’s most iconic live-action and animated shows are developed for this demographic including SpongeBob SquarePants, Danger Force, and The Loud House

Preschool Content (Audience Age 2-6)

The Preschool age group (including “bridge” content for tots moving into early elementary school age) loves to laugh and play along with their content. They’re smart, engaged, and always ready for new shows to watch like Paw Patrol, Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, and Baby Shark’s Big Show

Preteen/Young Adult (Audience Age 11-17)

Nickelodeon shares its home in the ViacomCBS Kids & Family Group with their partners at Awesomeness who cater to a tween and teen audience. Nick will partner with ATV and the creators of shows for a slightly older audience like Side Hustle, Drama Club, and iCarly to make this experience the right one for you.
