The beloved Nickelodeon animated series celebrated its 20th anniversary at NYCC with a reunion panel that featured original cast members Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Dante Basco (Zuko), Mae Whitman (Katara), co-creator Bryan Konietzko and moderator Janet Varney (Korra).

Revealed during the panel was a new one-on-one fighting video game. Currently under the working title of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, the lineup features characters spanning the Avatarverse, and includes Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, Toph and Korra, with more characters set to be added to the game over time via seasonal updates.

The game will feature an original single player campaign, combo trials, and a hand-drawn 2D animation style that is meant to respect the style of the original TV series.

The fighting in the freshly-released trailer shows Aang using his airbending, while also entering the Avatar State for some powerful moves; Zuko firebending and donning his Blue Spirit mask and swords; Korra using all four elements and also using the Avatar State; and much more elemental fighting.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is being developed by Gameplay Group International, which is a new company based around reviving cancelled games. It’s unclear if Avatar Legends was already in the works at some point and got axed or if this is a totally new project made under this studio.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam (wishlist here) during summer 2026.

Fans can check out Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game's official website at avatarfighters.com and follow the game on X/Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Elsewhere during the ATLA NYCC panel, a chibi-style, 2D animated series of short videos also debuted, which will be available to watch on YouTube. The shorts will reimagine classic scenes from the original Avatar series, the comics and offer original stories. One of the videos adorably parodies the premiere episode with Katar and Sokka discovering Aang and battling Zuko and the Fire Nation.
