Savage Mountain, the controversial true story behind Kristin Harila’s record-breaking 14 Peaks climb, premieres exclusively on SkyShowtime on 5 November.
Savage Mountain documents the highs and lows of Kristin’s journey from relative newcomer to multiple world-record holder, as she takes on one of the most ambitious challenges in mountaineering history. While each of the 14 peak expeditions typically takes two months to complete, Kristin unbelievably summited all mountains in just 92 days, halving the record held previously by Nims Purja. Uniquely, she was the only mountaineer to share such a record with her climbing partner, the Nepalese Tenjen Lama Sherpa.
But it didn’t end there: just as the story of Kristin and Lama’s achievement made headlines across the globe, footage from K2 surfaced, showing a column of climbers stepping over an injured Pakistani porter, Mohammad Hassan. Suddenly, Kristin became the focus of worldwide controversy when she was accused of stepping over a dying man in her rush to break the record. The news triggered a global backlash and fierce debate about ambition, ethics, and who was controlling the narrative.

“Coming back as Trina alongside such a dynamic, powerful cast of newcomers is something I feel very lucky and grateful to do,” Monet shared. “Victorious was in a lot of ways life-changing for all of us. Our cast is forever bonded by that experience, and to think that I have an opportunity to steward anything close to that is a feeling I can’t begin to describe.”
Who’s in the cast of Hollywood Arts?
Monet will be joined by an up-and-coming cast, including:
Rex (Robbie Shapiro’s beloved ventriloquist dummy)
Yvette Nicole Brown (Drake & Josh, Community) is also set to make a guest appearance. That’s right: Principal Helen is back and better than ever.
“I'm so excited for the world to see this cast and how talented they are,” Monet says. She’s not the only one reprising her Victorious role. Yvette Nicole Brown returns as recurring character Principal Helen Dubois, Eric Lange guest stars as acting teacher Erwin Sikowitz, and Matt Bennett plays fellow Hollywood Arts alum and ventriloquist Robbie Shapiro.
According to Monet, this next chapter in the Victorious universe has something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of the original series or new to the Hollywood Arts campus. “I’m proud of what we made,” she says. “We worked really hard. It’s funny. It’s all the things I wanted it to be, and I always kept in mind the original audience throughout the entire process.”
Monet, who also serves as an executive producer on the Paramount Television Studios series alongside Samantha Martin, Jake Farrow, Shauna Phelan, and Jonathan Judge, says she was guided by a core question throughout the show’s production: “How do we appeal to [the original audience] while still opening up to the entire masses?” Viewers will get the answer when classes commence in the premiere of Hollywood Arts Oct. 15 on Netflix.
How Avatar: Seven Havens Ties Back On Aang & Korra Explained By Cast And Creators | ScreenRant Plus
While at NYCC, Avatar: Seven Havens EPs Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, Sehaj Sethi, and Ethan Spaulding were joined by stars Saheli Khan (Pavi), Aishu Devan (Nisha), and Major Curda (Ja) to introduce the new generation of characters and lay out the multi-season plan for the show.
New episodes of Avatar: Seven Havens drop Fridays on Paramount+.
Avatar: Seven Havens Showrunner Cut a Zip-Line Element of the Story
Showrunner Ethan Spaulding also reveals which renowned anime films inspired Avatar: Seven Havens' design and animation.
Before people in Avatar: Seven Havens walked, they zip-lined.
That's right, an early concept for Avatar: Seven Havens involved zip-lines in the city of Ellora, one of the seven "havens" that make up the world after an apocalyptic event. According to executive producer and showrunner Ethan Spaulding, the offbeat transportation method would've been too much to animate for a television series. He clarified further to CBR's Katie Doll in an exclusive interview:
"There was a script that Sehaj [Sethi] had. In Ellora, all the characters were going to be going around by zip lines. I was like, 'There's no way we can produce this.' It was awesome, but they had written how everything's transported in the city with all these cables everywhere. I was like, 'That'll just be a nightmare.' Maybe for a movie or something, but there's no way on TV we could do that justice. That was an early one that was taken away early."
Zip-lining was cut altogether from Avatar: Seven Havens, but the show was still determined to look like a dream inside a terrifying nightmare. The series follows twins Pavi and Nisha, who are the first twins to be Avatars. Living in a post-apocalyptic world, they must keep their identities as the Avatars a secret to avoid scrutiny, while also learning the truth about their mysterious past.
Speaking more about the animation style behind Avatar: Seven Havens, Spaulding identified specific eras of the anime genre that helped define the colorful, fantastical look of the series' environment.
"Art direction-wise, which flows into the animation also, there was a wish list up top from Michael [Dante DiMartino] and Bryan [Konietzko], not a mandate, that it was going to be post-cataclysm," Spaulding revealed. "There's going to be all this weather phenomenon. We knew it was going to be kind of a reset that's more fantasy-based. That kind of informed the look, and then there was also talk about simplifying the designs. It really comes from early anime — '70s, '80s, '90s anime."
The character design also somewhat departs from the visual identity of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, known for his Studio Ghibli films, and French artist Moebius were inspirations for Seven Havens' new stylistic direction.
"The use of color in this is more... I don't know if it's more expressive or not, but there was a thought of having no shadows on the characters at one point," Spaulding remarked. "Early Hayao Miyazaki Ghibli films didn't really have shadows on the characters, like heavy shadows. Therefore, we thought it would be easier for the animators to handle the characters without a lot of extra lines and stuff. I think a new look was welcome. It was very, very much steeped in anime and fantasy, like Moebius, if you're familiar with that artist. A lot of Nausicaä [of the Valley of the Wind]. [That film] has hallmarks and a Moebius vibe, too."
Avatar: Seven Havens Episodes 1–3 are currently streaming on Paramount+. Episodes 4–6 premiere October 16.

People have been hating on Korra ever since she first appeared. The protagonist of The Legend of Korra, the follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender, is regularly criticized for a number of perceived issues. Seven Havens, the latest Avatar series, seems to lean into this Korra hate, casting the former avatar as a world-destroyer whose death is celebrated. Some have taken this as confirmation that the Avatar creators themselves hate the character, a claim they have been quick to shut down.
Image: Nickelodeon
Talking to Teen Vogue, franchise creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko discussed Korra's touchy legacy.
"The idea that we hate Korra? I would say watch the show," said Konietzko, with DiMartino adding, "That's definitely not true. She's one of my favorite characters." The two also dug into a persistent claim that Korra failed as the avatar because she severed her connection to her past lives. "Her uncle did that to her," Konietzko responded. "Aang's entire people were wiped out, but no one seems to hold that against Aang."
As to why people hold Korra to a different standard, he explained that "there's a lot of misogyny. I think there's a lot of homophobia." It's pretty refreshing to hear the creators put it so clearly, as this has been a constant problem in the fandom since Korra's debut in 2012.
‘Avatar’ creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko say much of the hate toward Korra stems from misogyny and homophobia, pointing out that fans blame her for losing the past lives but don’t hold Aang accountable for the Air Nomads’ extinction:
“They hold Korra to a different standard. I think there's a lot of misogyny and homophobia. The idea we hate Korra is not true."
There is clearly a metatextual dimension to how Korra is portrayed in the first three episodes of Avatar: Seven Havens. After hearing DiMartino and Konietzko's comments, it feels obvious that the show's negative portrayal of Korra is a knowing nod to how a lot of the fandom treats her — that is to say, baseless hatred with little evidence to back it up. Although not confirmed, it's likely we don't yet know exactly what motivated Korra to plunge the world into chaos. There is sure to be a reason that flips what fans expect on its head. DiMartino teased as much, "There's more to Korra's story than you see in the first couple of episodes."
The Avatar franchise is growing even more following Seven Havens' premiere
Image: Nickelodeon
At New York Comic Con, DiMartino and Konietzko announced that Seven Havens would be getting four seasons. That's good news for fans, since it means they won't have to spend each season wondering if this will be the end. That also means we will likely see the story dive even further into Korra's history. An Avatar Kurok show is also coming, following Aang's predecessor on a swashbuckling adventure.
Korra fans will be pleased to hear that DiMartino is writing a new graphic novel trilogy called The Long Game. It will go into the history of the Red Lotus, who served as the antagonists of Legend of Korra's third season. Hopefully, the series will also give some more hints as to why Korra eventually plunged the world into chaos.
