Following the breakout success of the first season, filming has begun in Mallorca on the second series of SkyShowtime’s popular Swedish dramedy Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner), with leading actors Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones, The Iris Affair), Johan Glans (Hjälp!) and Celie Sparre (The Truth Will Out) joining the cast.
The SkyShowtime Original series, created and directed by Felix Herngren (Sunny Side, Bonus Family) sees the return of Per Lasson, Lisa Linnertorp, Erik ‘Jerka’ Johansson and Rakel Wärmländer. The new season picks up where the first left off, following the two brothers and their families as they attempt to build a new life in the Spanish sun, while continuing to grapple with unresolved conflicts and complex family dynamics.
Hivju will be playing the role of Anker, an eccentric Norwegian intellectual and artist. Anker lives in a large, architect-designed home outside Palma, where he rejects the idea of modernity in favour of exploring his growing obsession with Roman ideals and a quest to find his ‘true’ humanity.
Speaking about his role in the series, Hivju said: “I loved season one, and it’s a real joy to join this incredible cast as Anker, a character I hope will bring plenty of energy and shake things up where the sun always shines. Working with Felix Herngren and the rest of the team has been an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for season two.”
Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) is produced by award-winning Scandinavian production company FLX, created and directed by Herngren (Sunny Side, Bonus Family), and produced by Sussan Treschow (Jana – Marked for life, Meaning of Life) with SkyShowtime and SVT as co-producer. Head scriptwriter Erik Ahrnbom (Thin Blue Line, Keep It Together) joins for the second season, alongside writers Maria Nygren (Meaning of Life, Love & Anarchy) and Martin Larsson (Keep It Together), with Jessica Ericstam (Sunny Side, Meaning of Life) serving as Executive Producer for FLX.
Season two of Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) is the latest Swedish series to be recommissioned by SkyShowtime, and is set to join a slew of hit local originals including sporting documentary Schmeichel, popular crime drama Veronika seasons 1 – 3, plus upcoming series The Trio (Trion) which premieres on 1 June, and National Homicide Unit (Riksmord).
