'Stan & Gran' Teams Up with RSPB

Banijay Kids & Family, a global leader in children’s entertainment, behind hit shows such as Totally Spies! and Mr Bean: The Animated Series, recently announced a new partnership for Stan & Gran. Co-produced by Tiger Aspect Kids & Family (part of Banijay Kids & Family), Jollywise, and Xentrix Studios, the brand is set to collaborate with the RSPB for a year-long initiative which aims to inspire young children to explore and protect the natural world.

'Stan & Gran' | Banijay Kids & Family

Stan & Gran launched on 5’s Milkshake! on 10th November 2025 and will air on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland from 2026. It follows the mystery-busting adventures of Stan Breakwater, a curious and excitable young nature lover, and his fun-loving, dynamic Gran, as they investigate the strange goings-on in the fictional British coastal village of Porthole. Blending humour and intrigue with factual entertainment, Stan & Gran highlights themes of discovery, exploration and nature.

Both the RSPB and Stan & Gran’s propositions foster curiosity, environmental awareness, and scientific thinking in children. Wild Times, the RSPB’s nature magazine, aimed at RSPB members under eight, is jam-packed with fascinating wildlife facts and fun nature-related activities, puzzles and crafts. The campaign begun in December 2025, with the issue featuring a colouring-in activity and an introduction to the show and its characters. From the March/April 2026 edition, a Stan & Gran comic will feature in the next six editions of the magazine. The partnership will be presented in the RSPB Notes on Nature newsletter and supported through the RSPB website to ensure strong visibility.

Jon Mason, Creator and Executive Producer of Stan & Gran says: “I have been a member of the RSPB since I was a young boy, so when I started to develop the show, I met with them very early on. Nature is at the very heart of Stan & Gran, with every episode designed to spark curiosity and wonder in the natural world – these principles are foundational to what the RSPB believes in, so it’s a perfect match. Both Stan & Gran and the RSPB want to inspire the next generation of nature lovers, through fun and adventure. Partnering with the RSPB feels like a full circle moment for me!”

The RSPB adds: “Our partnership with Stan & Gran is a perfect match for Wild Times readers – RSPB members under eight. It’s vital that we pass our love, curiosity and knowledge of nature on to the younger generations. Stan & Gran carries this message at its heart.”

Alison Steadman Joins Cast of 'Stan & Gran'

Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey, Life Is Sweet) has joined the cast of Stan & Gran, represented by Banijay Kids & Family, as Grumblestunk.

“It is such an honor to be working with the very talented Alison Steadman to bring Stan & Gran to life with her unique blend of fun and energy that perfectly captures the character of Grumblestunk,” said Louise Bucknole, Senior Vice President (SVP) of kids and family for the U.K. and Ireland at Paramount. “It’s a brilliant performance that is sure to captivate our Milkshake! audience, and we simply can’t wait to share it with them!”

Stan & Gran, created by Jon Mason, is written by Howard Read (Danger Mouse, Horrible Histories, Deep in the Bowl), produced by Peter Griffiths (LEGO: Nexus Knights, Rosie’s Rules, The Ocean Calls) and directed by Simone Giampaolo (Only a Child, Bad Dinosaurs, The Legends Family Adventure, Obki the Eco Alien). It is co-produced by Tiger Aspect Kids & Family (part of Banijay Kids & Family), Jollywise and Xentrix Studios.

The 52×11-minute series follows the adventures of Stan Breakwater, a curious and excitable nature lover, and his fun-loving Gran as they investigate strange happenings in their fictional British coastal village of Porthole.

The show is commissioned by 5’s Milkshake! and Nick Jr. UK and is set to launch on Milkshake! on November 10 and on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland in 2026.

“I’ve had a lifelong passion for wildlife; I can spend hours watching the birds in my garden,” Steadman said. “So, when Stan & Gran came along, I just fell in love with Porthole and the funny and relatable characters—especially Grumblestunk and her somewhat nefarious ways! The show’s all about being outside and celebrating nature—what’s not to love about that!”

Mason added, “I’ve long admired Alison Steadman’s talent, from her standout role as Candice Marie in Nuts in May to iconic characters like Beverly in Abigail’s Party and Pam in Gavin & Stacey. When casting for the show, Alison was at the top of our wish list, and we were thrilled when she accepted the role of village bad girl Grumblestunk. Watching her inhabit the role with such gusto has had us in stitches during voice recordings—she delivers pure magic.”

Channel 5's Milkshake! Adds New Commissions & Acquisitions to Lineup

Channel 5’s preschool strand Milkshake! has added a slew of new commissions and acquisitions to its lineup, including Stan & Gran and Animal Care Club.

Stan & Gran (pictured above), a 52-part CG animated series from Jellyfish Pictures and Jollywise, follows the excitable young nature lover Stan Breakwater and his fun-loving Gran as they investigate strange occurrences in their fictional British coastal village.

From Toronto's eOne Unscripted, Animal Care Club (25 x 11 minutes, pictured below) is a factual live-actioner that gives animal-loving kids the chance to get up close and personal with pets, farm animals, wildlife and exotic critters across the U.K. The kids will team up with experts to get experience helping these animals. They will work with vets, zookeepers and at animal sanctuaries, and deliver educational content (like wildlife behaviors) while also teaching kids how to be kind to animals.

Milkshake! acquired Canadian prodco WildBrain Studios and British indie Darrall Macqueen’s Chip & Potato for its lineup as well. This 40 x 11-minuter follows the adventures of Chip, a friendly and curious 4-year-old pug puppy, and Potato, a tiny, furry snuggly toy that is actually a curled up real mouse. The series sees Chip navigating the highs and lows of kindergarten with her unlikely BFF.

These titles will join an extensive lineup of returning fan-favorites and previous commissions. Tweedy & Fluff and Mixmups, both commissioned last year, will debut this autumn. Tweedy & Fluff centers on two woolly yarn pals who met in the corner of a weaver’s cottage. Mixmups features three lovable friends.

Returning series include Odo, Milo, Meet the Experts, Fireman Sam and Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go!

These commissions align with a nature-adjacent programming strategy that’s currently in play at Milkshake!, according to Louise Bucknole, general manager of kids and family for the U.K. and Ireland at Paramount in an April interview with Kidscreen. Bucknole, who oversees the block, said there is a demand in the UK for environmentally savvy content that showcases the outdoors.

In today's (July 5) announcement, Bucknole added: “Milkshake! is a beloved brand for preschoolers and families in the U.K. with a compelling combination of top-rated U.K. power brands and new, highly anticipated children’s series,” said Louise Bucknole, general manager of kids and family for the U.K. and Ireland at Paramount. “We’re excited to announce our expanding lineup of content for 2023 and beyond, which will engage our preschool audience through universal themes of creativity, play, adventure, friendship and teamwork, to help them understand their world.”
