Gabby and her cats are coming to the big screen next year.
DreamWorks Animation and Universal have revealed that Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie will open nationwide on Sept. 26, 2025.
The live-action/CGI series has been a smash hit for Netflix since its debut in 2021. Created by Traci Paige Johnson (Blue's Clues, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood) and Jennifer Twomey (Blue's Clues, Team Umizoomi), Gabby’s Dollhouse is a mixed-media preschool adventure that centers on a 12-year-old who, after unboxing an item, uses the power of her magical cat ears to shrink down to dollhouse size and go on adventures with the help of her animated cat friends. The show operates with a narrative ethos of flexible thinking and learning from your mistakes, and does so through a mix of things like music, dance, cooking and crafting.
Laila Lockhart Kraner will reprise her role from the series in the feature film, which follows Gabby as she goes on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco. But when Gabby’s dollhouse, her most prized possession, ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady named Vera, Gabby sets off on an adventure through the real world to get the Gabby Cats back together and save the dollhouse before it’s too late, according to the movie’s logline.
Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie is directed by Ryan Crego, who earned a Children’s and Family Emmy nomination for his television feature Arlo the Alligator Boy. The film is produced by Steven Schweickart, who has worked as a production supervisor or co-producer on some of DWA’s biggest movies, including this year’s hit film Kung Fu Panda 4, which has earned almost $500 million worldwide. Twomey and Johnson will serve as exec producers.
Gabby’s Dollhouse series was the sixth-most-viewed streaming original series in 2023, according to Nielsen. Netflix recently upped its order to 100 total episodes, with the 10th season of the series set to debut on the streamer later this year. The series also airs on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.
The series has been among the top 10 most-watched TV shows on Netflix in 57 countries. In the U.S., it has become a top three preschool brand, inspiring an toy line, publishing, home, apparel, original music, an app and a YouTube channel. Additionally, Gabby’s Dollhouse continues to expand through Universal Destinations & Experiences theme parks, global fan experiences and live events.
