How to Find the 'SpongeBob' Easter Egg in 'Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4'

A Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 SpongeBob easter egg has left gamers confused why it isn’t showing up in their game.

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 remaster has finally been released, allowing gamers to relive the 20-year-old classics. Not only has the remaster given the games a fresh makeover with numerous quality-of-life improvements, but it has also added some extra content to help things feel fresh.

One of these features is a SpongeBob SquarePants Easter egg inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, which lets you skate around a shipwreck-inspired park with a view of Bikini Bottom - including SpongeBob's pineapple home, Squidward's Easter Island Head home, and Patrick's rock - in the background. This was teased at the Nintendo Direct back in April, which also revealed a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration, which sees Michelangelo become a playable character. However, there has been some confusion about how to access the content.

Within the Skater Island level, there should be a Bikini Bottom backdrop. However, some gamers have been left with a vast empty space instead.

Reddit user Kxshyp0p on the THPS subreddit showed that when they arrived to where the SpongeBob content was supposed to be, the area was locked behind the deluxe edition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4. Some users chimed in, claiming that the SpongeBob content can’t be accessed unless users purchase the more expensive version of the game, which includes all the bonus downloadable features.

Additionally, some users with the standard edition claimed that they could see the Bikini Bottom content, but were unable to explain how or why they could.

So, what’s really going on here?

It turns out, that, no, Mr. Krabs hasn't put the content behind a paywall - the SpongeBob easter egg lies behind a free, albeit elusively named content pack. The name of the pack doesn’t make any references to SpongeBob, only that it contains “content” for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.

Gamers who play the game on Xbox Game Pass may have already downloaded this pack by default, which explains the confusion. This free content pack would have also come pre-installed when downloading a pre-ordered version of the game, which explains the confusion.

Given the lack of clarity around this Nickelodeon pack, it’s understandable to see the confusion. Compared to games like PowerWash Simulator, which has its own dedicated Bikini Bottom map.

It also doesn’t help that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has content locked behind the deluxe edition, such as a Doomguy skin and additional songs. Regardless, at least the solution here was a free pack, so gamers who are keen to see the easter egg themselves can experience it without having to splash that extra cash.
