The Thundermans are no stranger to facing danger head on, but the cast of Nickelodeon's hit comedy franchise recently faced real danger after a false bomb threat was reported to the filming location of their brand new movie, Clash of the Thundermans.

The film sequel to the hit comedy series The Thundermans had just commenced filming in British Columbia, Canada at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus on Thursday, July 31 when the college was unexpectedly shut down due to reports of a bomb.

The campus was closed for almost two hours before police gave the all clear.

Simon Fraser University itself posted an alert just before 1 p.m., saying the road to campus was closed until further notice. Police later concluded it was a false alarm, with RCMP spokeswoman Corporal Laura Hirst telling the Vancouver Sun that police closed the campus as a precaution before discovering the threat was unfounded.

“As part of the active and dynamic investigation, all evidence at this point leads to a ‘swatting’ situation,” she said. Swatting is the placing of a prank emergency call designed to spark a large-scale response from first responders, sometimes with a specific person or institution as the target of the hoax.

Hirst also added that police are attempting to identify the caller who reported the fake threat.

It's understood that no cape-wearing evil bunnies are being sought after in the investigation.

Kira Kosarin, who plays Thundermans protagonist Phoebe Thunderman, posted an Instagram Reel four days ago about her experience with the shut down, in a behind-the-scenes look at her day-to-day routine.

In the Reel, she describes how the cast and crew were filming the movie’s “big opening scene” before “all of a sudden things stopped… the cops came, the whole campus was shut down.”

In Clash of the Thundermans, when Chloe develops a destructive new superpower, the Hero League orders her to an elite boarding school for superheroes to learn control of her abilities. Faced with the prospect of sending Chloe away for years, the Thundermans split apart, with Phoebe, Barb and Billy taking her into hiding. Max, Hank, and Nora track their rogue family members, until the two factions face off against each other in a full-on battle for the Thundermans’ future.

Ariel Winter (Modern FamilySofia the First) joins returning cast members Kira Kosarin as Phoebe Thunderman, Jack Griffo as Max Thunderman, Maya Le Clark as Chloe Thunderman, Addison Riecke as Nora Thunderman, Diego Velazquez as Billy Thunderman, Chris Tallman as Hank Thunderman and Rosa Blasi as Barb Thunderman. Winter will play Cognita.

Clash of the Thundermans will premiere day and date on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ in 2026.

The Thundermans premiered on Nickelodeon in October 2013 and wrapped its four-season run in 2018, ranking as the number-one series across all TV among Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11. Created and executive produced by three-time Emmy Award-winner Jed Spingarn, the scripted half-hour series follows superhero twins with opposite personalities, Phoebe and Max Thunderman, as they navigate their way through school, friends and a family of extraordinary superheroes, all while keeping their true identities a secret. The show has seen a resurgence following its 4Q21 launch on streaming, where it quickly became the top title across all SVOD among Kids 6-11; and has continued to rank among the top titles with Kids 6-11.

The Thundermans Return movie premiered last year to stellar ratings, ranking as the number-one entertainment telecast for the year to date in Live+3 across all cable among Kids 6-11. It reached 1.6 million Total Viewers throughout its premiere weekend across airings on Nickelodeon and Nick At Nite (4 telecasts). The Thundermans Return follows twins Phoebe and Max who are enjoying their superhero lifestyle in a new city, but when one ‘save’ goes awry, the Thundermans are sent back to Hiddenville.

Building on the success of The Thundermans Return, Nickelodeon ordered spin-off series The Thundermans: Undercover, which debuted earlier this year. The spinoff series follows Phoebe and Max, who are sent undercover to handle a new threat in the seaside town of Secret Shores and bring Chloe along to develop her superhero talent. The show also stars Daran Norris as “Thunderford,” as well as new cast members Kinley Cunningham as “Booch” and Nathan Broxton as “Jinx.”

The Thundermans, The Thundermans Return and The Thundermans: Undercover also features Dana Snyder as the voice of “Dr. Colosso”.

Jed Spingarn, Sean W. Cunningham and Marc Dworkin (The Thundermans Return, The Thundermans: Undercover) return to write and executive produce the movie. Kosarin and Griffo also executive produce, along with Richard Bullock. Trevor Kirschner directs and serves as co-executive producer.
