Magic: The Gathering Announces Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collaboration at NYCC 2025

COWABUNGA! The heroes in a half shell are heading into the world’s premier collectible card game! Magic: The Gathering® | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brings decades of turtle power to your games of Magic. The development team behind the Hasbro-owned tabletop card game showed off a handful of cards from the Nickelodeon Universes Beyond set at New York Comic Con, which featured cards from the main set and its Commander deck. Now, WotC are taking these reveals beyond New York City (and its sewers) and straight to you!

The team up marks the latest for Magic and Nickelodeon, which launched a SpongeBob SquarePants Secret Lair collaboration earlier this year and is set to launch an Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration in November.

Per Wizards of the Coast’s description for the upcoming set, which will debut next March: “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise spans generations, both in its media and in its fans. With this set, we’re reaching out to players both new and old to offer them a new style of Magic. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Kevin Eastman’s art or a Turtles superfan who adores their recent animated incarnations, there’s a card in this set for you. This set draws from the entire history of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles media and offers a wide range of products to match. Brand-new offerings like the Turtle Team-Up product are perfect for playing across generations. If you grew up watching the adventures of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, you can share those stories with a new generation of Magic players.”

The initial reveal included a single preconstructed Commander deck featuring all four turtles, with a unique Partner ability called Character Select, which will allow players using the deck to mix and match their lead characters at will. The panel showed off a number of cards that span the pantheon of TMNT history, from the original Mirage Comics designs, multiple TV series, several films, all to The Last Ronin. Cards for all four turtles were also revealed, along with an exclusive look at the Villains in the set, including Super Shredder and the Foot Clan, Krang, and Bebop & Rocksteady as their own singular card together. Not to mention famous allies like Splinter, April O'Neil, and Casey Jones.

The MTG TMNT set will include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, and a new Draft Night bundle for four-player drafts. There will also be a special Pizza Bundle on March 27, with Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, and more items contained in a TMNT-themed pizza box.

TMNT will also introduce a new product to Magic, the Turtle Team-Up co-op experience, where 2-4 players can team up with decks themed around each turtle and take on multiple villains from TMNT history who are represented as Boss cards. Baxter Stockman, Shredder, Rat King, and Krang were shown as examples of Boss cards included in the kit.

Main Features

  • Showcase Scene cards, which combine to form a stunning scene that looks like it came straight out of the comic book or the animated series
  • Join forces with the Turtles with the interchangeable Turtle Power! Commander decks
  • An exclusive Pizza Bundle to grab a slice from! Wizards of the Coast is cooking up six cards from Magic's past, topping them with pizza-themed artwork, and serving them as part of the Pizza Bundle
  • Borderless Headliner Cards with Art by Kevin Eastman, the original illustrator of TMNT. These cards feature original borderless artwork complete with a shiny stamp of Kevin's signature
  • Borderless Source Material Cards take cards from Magic's history and trick them out with turtle-tastic artwork. Source material cards from Magic: The Gathering | TMNT feature artwork from throughout the TMNT franchise
  • Turtle Team Up: Form your own team of heroes in a half shell with this brand new two-to-four player co-op experience
  • Borderless Pixel Cards that reimagine cards from the Turtle Power! Commander deck in the pixel card treatment. Each card features a video game-themed font and pixel art by Kirokaze
  • New mechanics and ways to play such as Pick-Two Draft
  • Full-Art Pizza Basic Lands: The Turtles' love of pizza is so strong that we're bringing it to the set's basic lands. These full-art pizza basic lands feature a hearty helping of pizza toppings across all five basic lands

Like every other set release, MTG | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles introduces new (and returning) mechanics to the tabletops of Magic: the Gathering. While previous set spoiler seasons have given fans a taste of what the bonus sheet would look like (with Avatar: The Last Airbender, Final Fantasy: Through The Ages, and Spider-Man‘s Marvel Universe Bonus Sheets), WOTC’s reveal today is all about TMNT, mechanics, and multiple art treatments for card designs that fans of the series will be thrilled with. Like with past Universes Beyond, a Bonus Sheet for TMNT has been prepared, and it features artwork from the Turtles’ storied history.

Magic: The Gathering – New & Returning Mechanics in TMNT

Mutagen Tokens: This new-to-TMNT Artifact Token allows players to pay one and tap and sacrifice the artifact to put a +1/+1 counter on a target creature. This allows players to tinker with another token artifact in play, adding to the pool of Artifact Tokens available to swarm the tabletop with.

Sneak: This is an updated version of the “Ninjutsu” keyword introduced in Betrayers of Kamigawa back in 2005. Where the keyword previously had restrictions (Ninjutsu was required to have been played from the hand to activate), Sneak removes previous hangups and lets players use Sneak on their instant and sorcery cards, as well as cards not in hand. To use Sneak, an attacking creature needs to be unblocked, and then you can cast a card for its Sneak ability by putting the unblocked attacking card into the player’s hand and paying the Sneak cost.

Boss Cards: In a new co-op-based product introduced with MTG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at NYCC 2025, WOTC revealed Boss cards for a Turtle Team Up bundle. These cards operate like Arch Enemy cards that don’t require a player, and they play against a group of up to four players. Each boss card imposes harsh status effects on the players, bringing longstanding fans of the TMNT arcade games into the fold with a co-op-based experience.

Partner – Character Select: Previous Partner abilities (like the Stranger Things Secret Lair) allow players to play two commanders in the command zone at once if both creatures have Partner – Character Select. This returning mechanic lets players choose their turtle partners however they like at the commander table.

Team-up Character Cards: Team-up cards were introduced in March of the Machines, and at the NYCC 2025 panel for TMNT, it has been confirmed to make a comeback in a big way. For MTG TMNT, the team-up cards are designed with diplomacy and 2 vs. 2 player games in mind. Donnie & April, Adorkable Duo allows players to choose two good effects that target themselves and another target player, allowing for diplomacy at the commander table.

Magic: The Gathering | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Collectible Card Treatments Revealed

Specialized treatments have continued to grow in popularity with each MTG launch, and the “Bonus Sheet” (which is a group of reprints from MTG, printed with new artwork) from the previous MTG Final Fantasy set featured artwork pulled from the years of drawings, sketches, and concept art from the franchise’s history.

The bonus sheet is denoted by an expansion symbol separate from the main set (the main set has TMT, the bonus sheet has PZA as an identifier), and it excavates the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles history all the way from Mirage #1. These Bonus Sheet cards are called Source Material cards in the TMNT set, and they feature some of the most iconic moments in TMNT captured on Magic: The Gathering reprints, and the first one revealed at NYCC 2025 embodies the powerful card Doubling Season. This card uses the cover artwork from Turtles creator Kevin Eastman, and it is the cover of the very first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book.

Embracing the headliner cards from the previous MTG Spider-Man and Final Fantasy Universes Beyond sets, TMNT Collector Booster packs will have the potential of hosting a Borderless Headliner Card with artwork from Kevin Eastman, complete with a gloss signature present on the front text box of the card.

These will come as four different variants for each turtle, and be represented by vintage artwork inspired by the Mirage Comics TMNT run. Magic: The Gathering Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles notably skips the individual headliner (as seen with Spider-Man‘s Soul Stone) for these four headliner cards.

A single new preconstructed Commander Deck has been made for MTG TMNT, and the design team elected to make one with all of the Turtles instead of four different decks featuring a different Turtle, to embody their all-as-one teamup spirit.

The face of the deck is the Turtle Leader, Leonardo, and he is featured in all five colours of MTG‘s colour pie to keep the rest of the gang intact in the deck. Speaking of colour pie, the full art basic lands for TMNT are called Pizza Lands, and they feature a dripping slice of pizza with mana sign toppings for each of MTG‘s main colours to coincide with the Turtles’ famous love for pizza (these can be seen in the gallery below).

MSRPs for the entire set, all products, and pricing have been revealed, and they can be seen listed below as shown at NYCC 2025.
