CBS announces Nickelodeon game returning in 2024, to simulcast alternate broadcast of playoff game on network.
It will be another fun, slime-filled game for the family -- this time during the wild-card round.
The NFL on CBS is bringing back the Nickelodeon game for 2024 as it will simulcast a wild-card playoff game on the network this season. CBS Sports President David Berson made the announcement during the NFL on CBS media session on Wednesday, August 14.
CBS is broadcasting two wild card games in 2024, one which will have an alternate broadcast on Nickelodeon -- similar to the presentation in years past.
Update (12/3) - The NFL Wildcard Weekend Powered By Verizon will air January 2025 on Nickelodeon!
Nickelodeon and CBS Sports are teaming up with the NFL again for the 2024 football season with a special Slime-filled NFL Wild Card game for kids and families.
CBS broadcast two Nickelodeon games last season -- one on Christmas Day and the other an alternate broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII. The annual "NickMas" game will not return with the NFL Christmas Day games going to Netflix, but the Nickelodeon game will return to the postseason for the fourth time in the five seasons the alternate broadcast has aired.
Plans for the Nickelodeon game have not been unveiled. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were part of the alternate broadcast on Christmas, while SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and the Bikini Bottom crew headlined the Super Howl LVIII broadcast.
NFL Slimetime host and NFL Today analyst Nate Burleson confirmed to CBS Sports he will be the color commentator for the game once again. Additional details will be provided at a later date.
This will mark the fourth playoff game simulcast on Nickelodeon since the 2020 season. The first one featured the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints in the NFL Wild Card game in January 2021.
Response to the game was so strong that CBS brought it back the following year for the game between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.
Nickelodeon has added Christmas Day games to the schedule in each of the past two seasons. Since CBS had broadcast rights to the Super Bowl last season, the showdown between the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs was simulcast on Nick.
The 49ers-Chiefs game was billed as Super Bowl LVIII: Live from Bikini Bottom and featured augmented reality effects with SpongeBob SquarePants characters.
Other highlights from past Nickelodeon broadcasts include a touchdown replay with Ninja Turtle avatars in place of players and slime cannons when a team finds the end zone.
Alternate broadcasts have become a big part of the NFL-watching experience. The Manningcast on ESPN has grown in popularity every year since it debuted during the 2021 season.
The Bears-Saints game in January 2021 marked Nickelodeon's most-watched program in four years. The alternate Super Bowl broadcast between the 49ers and Chiefs in February averaged 1.2 million viewers, more than six times the network's 2023 primetime average (190,000 viewers).

In Nickelodeon's first look at the Henry Danger The Movie, for which Norman serves as executive producer along with Menendez, Nowak and Farrow, the teaser trailer opens with shattered glass flying about as flashbacks from the beloved Nickelodeon series flash all around.
A now grown-up Kid Danger emerges from behind the glass, noting that he's "not a sidekick anymore" to Captain Man. "I'm a hero," the character says in a voiceover, as he stands stoically in his superhero attire.
Now speaking aloud, Kid Danger (a.k.a, Henry Hart) then says: "It's time to face my destiny."
From there, Henry's best friend Jasper (Fox) appears alongside him to hilariously remark on his changed appearance. "It's time for my face to have a mustache," he says, noting that he is not Jasper but "Captain Stache." Jasper even requests that his pal "get my name right" before Henry gives him a look and uses his fist to push him away.
The teaser also provides glimpses of the action-packed moments to come, with a voiceover noting that "it's Danger like you've never seen before."
Among those excited for the new film is one of the show's original stars, Frankie Grande.
"Bringing Frankini back has been an absolute dream come true! I am beyond excited for everyone to see him in all his glory—dancing, singing, but also, revealing a much darker side of Frankini that hasn’t been seen before," he told PEOPLE.
"This project has been one of the most thrilling experiences of my career, and I can’t wait for the world to experience the chaos, the charm, and the unexpected twists," Grande concluded. "It’s truly a wild ride, and I’m so proud to finally share it with everyone!"
"I can remember my childhood and how much those shows resonated with me when I was a kid, so the fact that I'll be a part of so many kid's childhood memories blows my mind," he shared. "That's the most rewarding part of it."
Nickelodeon Arabia (جَزِيرَةُ الْعَرَب) switched from using a localized feed to merging with the Nickelodeon Global pan-regional feed on Monday 25th November 2024. With the switch to the Global feed, it is thought that Nickelodeon Arabia will no longer use localized continuity and on-air graphics, such as bumpers, idents and banners, for local holidays, including Ramadan and Eid.
