4:00-5:00 A Cross-Generation Collaboration: The Inside Scoop of a Comic-Con Success Story

In 2009, a nine-year-old San Diego artist and award-winning film critic Perry Chen (Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest) met Oscar-nominated animation legend Bill Plympton (Guard Dog) at Comic-Con and drew a "Hot Dog" next to the one Plympton drew for him from his acclaimed animation series. A year later, Perry was hired to work on an animation short, Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest, about a young Holocaust survivor (actress Ingrid Pitt's story), under the guidance of Plympton. The rest is history. A panel of the creative team, sponsors, and distributor, including Perry Chen (animator), Kevin Sean Michaels (director), Bill Plympton (storyboard and character design), Zhu Shen (producer), Karina Bessoudo (Toon Boom Animation, vice president of marketing and communications), Douglas Little (Wacom, public relations), and Linda Olszewski (Shorts International co-head of worldwide acquisition), share the amazing behind-the-scenes story: how a first-time child animator's film got sponsorship from leading animation companies, went on to premiere at the 2011 Comic-Con and LA Shorts Fest, won multiple film festival awards, was featured in Animation magazine and on 2011 Animation Show of Shows, qualified for an Academy Award, touched many hearts, and secured worldwide distribution by Shorts International, the distributor of Oscar-nominated shorts and other outstanding short films. This lively panel, moderated by Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) will share tips and lessons learned not only about getting started with animation, but also how to identify and secure corporate sponsorships; how get your film produced, marketed, and distributed; and how to select the right film festivals for your film. TicketProcess.com Announces Tickets Available To Buy For Big Time Rush's Upcoming Second Major North American National Tour "Big Time Summer Tour"

Below is a TicketProcess.com press release via PRWeb:
Big Time Rush Tickets: Tickets For Big Time Rush North American Tour On Sale

Big Time Rush tickets to any and all of the nearly 60 live shows are currently available at TicketProcess.com at lower prices.
Do not miss out on the chance to purchase Big Time Rush tickets and experience this one-of-a-kind group first hand.
(PRWEB)

Big Time Rush is a unique blend of actor/musicians that have steadily risen to International fame after being the subject of a Nickelodeon TV show of the same name. The four-member band will soon embark on a jam-packed tour that begins in a few weeks and ends in late-September. Big Time Rush tickets to any and all of the nearly 60 live shows are currently available at TicketProcess.com.

According to the Nickelodeon website, Big Time Rush's four members were all pursuing amateur hockey careers when they were noticed by a talent scout, quickly molded into a boy band and shipped to Hollywood to achieve worldwide fame and recognition. Along the way and throughout the weekly episodes, the quartet finds out about the trials and tribulations of their journey toward the top of the Billboard charts.

All the while the group has been honing their singing voices and dancing moves, and they are now ready to show them off to the public during a massive North American tour. Do not miss out on the chance to purchase Big Time Rush tickets and experience this one-of-a-kind group first hand. Since the origin of the band is unusual and unprecedented, many expect the live performances to follow suit.

Once the tour gets going, the stops are almost nightly and the opportunity to purchase Big Time Rush concert tickets will quickly dwindle. The group has been nominated for a bevy of awards for both television and music, and they have even won a few. This is a clear indication that the Nickelodeon Network struck gold with four young artists that were prepared and talented enough to perform cross-genre entertainment at a young age.

The tour lands in cities all over America for the first half of its schedule, and the second half is mostly concentrated in the East Coast and Canada. The venues range from small and almost intimate settings to large stadiums that normally host professional sporting events. Since every show is expected to be sold out by the time the four young heartthrobs take the stage, waiting to buy your Big Time Rush tickets will only result in uncertainty and inflated prices.

The tour makes intermittent stops in California over the next few months, but a final swing down the West Coast of Canada and the United States will provide fans in Vancouver, Portland, Reno and Marysville the opportunity to see Big Time Rush in person. If you are ready to pull the trigger on a pair or a handful of tickets, visit TicketProcess.com at your earliest convenience. Other popular 2012 tours include Justin Bieber, One Direction & American Idol Live

Producers plan to make 52 episodes of "Monsuno," aimed at boys 6-11, as an action adventure where kids are imbued with the power to command and battle creatures with amazing destructive potential. Jakks Pacific will produce action figures, gadgets and collectibles around the show.

"Monsuno" is co-produced by Pacific Animation Partners, a joint venture of Jakks Pacific, Dentsu Entertainment USA (whose Tokyo-based animation subsid Dentsu Tec oversees the toon work), FME and trading card maker Topps. FME is handling worldwide distribution.

Jakks Pacific is treating the property as an inhouse entertainment franchise it can launch across various platforms to promote the toy line, similar to how Hasbro has recently grown "Transformers" or Saban is rebooting "Power Rangers."

"Having a USA-developed series air on one of the top destinations for animation programming is a great accomplishment and a testament to the global appeal of Monsuno," said Yuma Sakata, president of Dentsu Entertainment USA.

Televisa Announces Plans To Set Up LA Hub

From C21Media:
Televisa sets up LA hub

Mexican broadcast and production giant Televisa is set to open a Los Angeles production hub to bring Latin American telenovelas into the US, according to a report.

Televisa USA will launch this week as Televisa's largest move yet into the English-language market, the Financial Times reported yesterday.

The broadcaster is one of the world’s leading Spanish-language producers with global format hits such as Ugly Betty, which has been remade in territories such as the US and China.

Paul Presburger will lead Televisa USA while continuing as CEO of Televisa-Lionsgate joint venture Pantelion Films. Former HBO VP of drama series Michael Garcia (Six Feet Under, The Wire) will be chief creative officer.

The prodco will have “multiple broadcast network deals” from the outset, including the Lionsgate JV to create content for the US market; and will seek to adapt its popular Latin novelas into English-language titles.

Among these is Devious Maids, the ABC Studios-coproduced drama from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry that was recently picked up by cablenet Lifetime. It is also onboard Hollywood Heights, Nickelodeon's remake of Televisa format Alcanzar una Estrella.

Televisa secured a US$1.2bn agreement with US Hispanic network Univision 19 months ago, giving Televisa a 5% equity stake in the firm and extending their production and distribution agreement until 2025.

However, Televisa USA is separate to this, according to Televisa executives cited by the FT report.

In May, Televisa partnered with Spanish producer Globomedia to create a JV prodco targeting the Spanish market. This was born out of Televisa's investment in Imagina Media Audiovisual.

Televisa couldn’t be reached for comment this morning due to time differences.

British Multichannel Broadcasters Spend Nearly £29m On British Animation And Children's Production In 2011

From Broadcast:
Kids production spend up 60% in multichannel

Multichannel broadcasters spent nearly £29m on British animation and children’s production last year - a rise of 60% on 2010.

Research by consultancy Oliver & Ohlbaum Associates, commissioned by the Commercial Broadcasters' Association (Coba), suggests investment by multichannels in original kids programmes rose to £25.5m in 2011, up from £14.9m in 2010.

When including secondary rights, this figure climbs to £28.6m – the highest ever spent by commercial broadcasters in the UK.

Coba members, such as Turner Broadcasting System and the Walt Disney Company, have ordered several series from UK indies.

Lime Pictures' House of Anubis and Blue-Zoo’s Olive the Ostrich for Nickelodeon, and Sassy Films' Goalmouth or Maverick's Get The Look for Disney, are among some of the key properties to have been broadcast in recent months.

Executive director of Coba Adam Minns said: “This investment comes despite tough economic conditions and is all the more timely given that children’s and animation production face well documented pressures.

“We believe the introduction of a tax credit for animation production will help underpin further growth.”
