Paramount+ has today (March 28) removed another 10 Nickelodeon shows from its programming library, including two Paramount+ Original series produced by Nickelodeon Animation for the streaming service.

The removal of Rugrats (2021) and Big Nate pages is particularly surprising. Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, both shows are currently in their second seasons, and are thought to still be in active production, with plans for a third season of Rugrats (2021), a reboot of Nickelodeon's beloved '90s series of the same name. Up until recently, new episodes of both shows originally premiered on the Paramount+ streaming service, before making their linear TV premieres on Nickelodeon a few months later. However, earlier this year, linear premieres for both series moved to Nicktoons, with Nicktoons airing new episodes of Rugrats (2021) still to be released on Paramount+.
Thankfully, physical media for both Rugrats (2021) exists, with season one being released on DVD in two parts:
This is said to be part of content removal addressed in the most recent Q4 earnings call on February 28. Targeting Nick titles is a little surprising as, according to parent Paramount Global, the network’s Kids & Family content consistently ranks among the most watched and re-watched programming on Paramount+.
“In connection with our continued review of our international content strategy, during the first quarter of 2024 we made a strategic decision to focus on content with mass global appeal,” the company said in its 10-K filing. “As part of this, we are rationalizing original content on Paramount+, especially internationally, and improving the efficiency of our linear network programming. As a result, we have reviewed our expansive global content portfolio and are removing select content from our platforms.”
Paramount expects “to recognize additional programming charges that we currently expect to be in the range of approximately $700 million to $900 million during the first quarter of 2024.”
The news follows Paramount+ removing several shows and seasons on March 1: Back at the Barnyard (seasons 1-2), How to Rock (season 1), Knight Squad (season 1-2), Make It Pop (season 1-2), Planet Sheen (season 1), Sam & Cat (season 1), and Supah Ninjas (season 1-2). A number of Nickelodeon productions were also removed on January 1 as well as in June last year.

Appearing on the Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat podcast, 47-year-old Melissa Joan Hart is the latest former Nickelodeon star to comment on the shocking documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which detailed allegations of abuse.
Hart appeared in Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All between 1991-1994. She said that she had no horror stories on her experiences at the network.
But she added, “I don’t know other people’s experiences and I’m not negating anything anybody else says. I’ve never been told these people’s stories that are in the [documentary]. And I have to say, I’ve never heard a story from a Nickelodeon star personally, nobody’s come to me and talked to me about any of these situations. I absolutely trust them, believe them, one hundred per cent.’
Hart was in Orlando, Florida with Nickelodeon from 1989 to 1994. There may have been differences between the Florida situation and Hollywood, she said.
“In Orlando, I had nothing but a wonderful experience,’ she said, but “They did work the kids a lot harder than they probably legally should. We had a ton of fun, it was just long hours, that’s all – because I had to do school and the show.”
The crew watched out for the young Hart.
“I was surrounded by an amazing crew, an incredible cast that took such good care of me. I mean, these people were protective of me.”
“I have to say, not every egg in the Nickelodeon basket is rotten. There were some good eggs – there were some people that really took care of me.”
Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set details the alleged on-set treatment of child actors, primarily at Nickelodeon shows in the ’90s and early ’00s. The series recently announced a fifth episode, which will feature interviews with The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh star Drake Bell, All That cast members Giovonnie Samuels and Bryan Hearne, Hearne’s mother, Tracey Brown, as well as new interviewee, All That cast member Shane Lyons “to discuss where the industry can go from here.” Titled “Breaking the Silence”, the new episode will air Sunday, April 7 at 8/7c on Investigation Discovery (and stream on Max).

The series will premiere Friday, March 29 on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan before its on-air debut on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME on Sunday, March 31 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The series will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada, the UK and Australia on March 29 and on Paramount+ in Latin America, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and South Korea on May 17.
An adaptation of Amor Towles’ internationally best-selling novel, A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW follows Count Alexander Rostov, played by Emmy® Award-winning actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars franchise, Halston, Trainspotting), who, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past has placed him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.
