'SpongeBob SquarePants' Celebrates 20 Years with Movie Etiquette PSA
It's SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary, and to help celebrate 20 years of one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created, the folks behind the beloved show have created a funny animated short about movie etiquette starring SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward.
The short, narrated by the French narrator from the show, will play before G and PG rated movies at Screenivision movie theaters around the U.S. from May 24 to Aug. 29. It's almost like a little teaser for The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge that's slated to come to theaters in summer 2020. Ahead of that full-length movie will be the new one-hour special "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout," which premieres on Friday 12th July 2019 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon USA, followed by a global rollout.
It’s SpongeBob’s birthday in “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” an original mixed live-action and animated special which features for the first time the celebrated voice talent behind SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward and Plankton - Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence, Roger Bumpass and Mr. Lawrence, respectively - playing live-action doppelgänger versions of the animated characters they voice! In the one-hour special, Bikini Bottom is getting ready for a very special day: SpongeBob's birthday! To mark the occasion, Sandy, helped by the inhabitants of the underwater city, decide to organise a surprise birthday party for SpongeBob. In order to keep the birthday boy away from the preparations, Patrick and SpongeBob go on a crazy trip to the surface world, where they come across a few familiar characters during lunchtime rush at The Trusty Slab restaurant. The special will also feature special guest stars David Hasselhoff (Baywatch, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie), Kel Mitchell (All That, Kenan & Kel, Good Burger), Jack Griffo (The Thundermans) and Daniella Perkins (Knight Squad). This year’s BETX Fan Fest included a lot of activities for kids like the Nickelodeon-sponsored area that had arcade games, a slime photo opp, a make-your-own slime table and a “Double Dare” inspired inflatable obstacle course. There was also the 1975 AMC Pacer with a burger on the hood, fries for windshield wipers and a milk shake on the back from the ’90s TV series “All That” and the spin-off “Good Burger” feature film on display. While the kids really had no idea where the car came from, the older millennials were excited, especially since the show “All That” has been rebooted and a “Good Burger” pop-up is on its way to Los Angeles.

Viacom Launches Nickelodeon Play App in Poland and Bulgaria
Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) today (Wednesday 19th June 2019) announced that it is partnering with mobile operators Play in Poland and Telenor in Bulgaria to distribute the Nickelodeon Play mobile Video on Demand (VOD) app, delivering fans in both countries a premium Nickelodeon experience! Mobile customers in Poland and Bulgaria can access an extensive Nickelodeon content on-demand experience, including a wide selection of full-length episodes of popular animated series, games and original short form content.
In Poland, Play customers will be able to watch premium content on the Nickelodeon play app, as part of the Play 360 package, or a standalone subscription at PLN19.90 (€4.67) a month following a free one-month trial, and at PLN5 a week following a free one-week trial for pre-paid customers.
Play customers in Poland will be able to unlock and watch premium content on the Nickelodeon Play app, as part of the Play 360 package, or as a standalone subscription at 19.90 PLN/month (€4.66) following a free one-month trial, and at 5 PLN/week following a free one-week trial for prepaid customers. The Nickelodeon Play streaming app will feature more than 200 full-length episodes, 120 original short videos and more than 20 games, in a brand safe online environment for kids.
In Bulgaria, Nickelodeon Play is available for Telenor customers to select from a range of video services available as part of the recently introduced Total+ tariff plans from 31.99 BGN (€16.36). The service will be free of charge for new customers for the first 12 months of their two-year contract, and 4.99 BGN per month thereafter. Existing customers will have the option to add Nickelodeon Play as an add-on. The price of the standalone add-on will be 5.99 BGN per month.
Meanwhile, in Bulgaria Nickelodeon Play will be available for Telenor customers to select from a range of video services offered as part of the recently introduced Total+ tariff plans from 31.99 BGN (€16.36). The service will be free of charge for new customers for the first 12 months of their two-year contract, and 4.99 BGN per month thereafter. Existing customers will have the option to add Nickelodeon Play as an add-on, and the price of the standalone add-on will be 5.99 BGN per month.
Popular titles available on-demand in the app will include SpongeBob SquarePants, Penguins of Madagascar, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shimmer and Shine, Paw Petrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines and Sam & Cat. In some instances, episodes will premiere on the app ahead of broadcast on the Nickelodeon linear channel.
Commenting on the news, Gábor Harsányi, Vice President (VP), General Manager, Viacom International Media Networks Central and Eastern Europe and Israel (VIMN CEEI) said: “Following its launch in Serbia and Montenegro last autumn, we’re delighted to rollout the Nickelodeon Play app in Poland and Bulgaria, giving mobile customers access to a full content experience, as part of our strategy to provide greater choice and flexibility on digital platforms.”
The Nickelodeon Play app is available on Android in Google Play and on iOS in the App Store.
Part of Viacom's Play Plex suite of top-rated apps, Nickelodeon Play has so far been downloaded as much as 16 million times by fans in 45 countries.
The news follows VIMN launching a localised Bulgarian feed of Nicktoons Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) earlier this month.
