The family played under the team name “Double Dads” with two fathers Liberty and Bryan and their sons Oscar and Marcos. Liberty and Bryan adopted the two boys six years ago.
The show’s host, actor and YouTuber Liza Koshy, introduced the family by stating, “Let’s meet our teams, in Blue, we have Oscar and Marcos and their dads Liberty and Bryan. They love football and they love each other. They are team ‘Double Dads,’ ” said Koshy. “That’s right! It’s about time we had double dads on Double Dare!”
When Koshy asked the couple “So do you both go by dad?”, Liberty revealed that he goes by “papa,” and Bryan revealed that he goes by “dad.”
“So how did we become family?” Koshy asked.
“So about six years ago we were fortunate enough to adopt our sweet boys and it’s been amazing ever since,” said ‘Dad.’
“And now we are on Double Dare,” Koshy said, adding, “Double Dads and double sons on Double Dare, I love that, I love that.”
As Twitter user Chad Moser notes, “This is one of those things that I hope won’t be a big deal soon, but right now I think it’s worth noting: Last night’s episode of Double Dare featured a family with two dads competing, which I think has to be one of the first real-life examples of same-sex families on kids’ TV.”

The team with the most points after two rounds proceeds to an ultra-messy obstacle course of eight obstacles under 60 seconds, winning cash and prizes along the way.
Originally hosted by Marc Summers, the latest series of Double Dare, which made its debut during summer 2018, is hosted by Liza Koshy, with Summers providing color commentary on the challenges and lending his vast knowledge of the game and expertise to each episode.
This isn’t the first time Nickelodeon has featured a same-sex family though.
In 2016, they made network history with their first-ever portrayal of a same-sex male couple on their animated series The Loud House. In the clip below, Clyde McBride's two fathers, Harold and Howard humorously say goodbye to their son at a friend’s sleepover. Additionally, Lincoln's sister, Luna, and her crush, Sam, are bi-sexual. The series' positive portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters has earned it two GLAAD Media Awards nominations.
The network also featured a younger unmarried female same-sex couple in the 2014 conclusion of its hit animated action series The Legend of Korra, which ended with Korra and Asami, two of the shows female characters, embarking on a romantic relationship, with fans endearingly calling the couple 'Korrasami'.
These representations are big deal considering that Nickelodeon has millions of viewers around the world, and the network's TV shows and movies featuring LGBTQ+ characters is an important step forward for mainstream visibility and acceptance of same-sex couples among younger viewers.
