Nickelodeon International Greenlights New Live Action Series 'The Covurts'
Originally published: Tuesday, April 10, 2018

CANNES, France--Nickelodeon today (Tuesday 10th April 2018) announced new live action series The Covurts (working title), the first original co-production between Nickelodeon International and Israeli Nutz Productions—the subsidiary production arm of Ananey Communications Group—together with Israeli cable network HOT. The announcement was made today by Nina Hahn, Senior Vice President (SVP) of International Production and Development for Nickelodeon, at global TV and digital content market MIPTV.
Update (4/25/2019) - The Covurts is set to enter production during Spring 2019!
The Covurts focuses on Mr. and Mrs. Covurt, highly trained secret agents tasked with fighting an evil international organization. Little do they know that it is actually their three kids – Hadrian, Mackenzie and Watts – who are really the agency’s biggest asset against crime.
Nickelodeon has ordered 40 x 22-minute episodes, which will be distributed to Nickelodeon's international audiences spanning 170+ countries and territories via the brand’s more than 100 channels and branded blocks.
The Covurts was created by Tom Riles, David Guest and Patrick Quinn. The head writer is Israeli screenwriter Michal Cooper Keren, the creator of Nickelodeon Israel's Spell Keepers. The series is an original co-production between Nickelodeon International, Nutz Productions and Ananey Communications Group.
The series has entered pre-production, will film in Israel and will begin premiering internationally in 2019.
“After a long history of collaboration with Ananey, we are so excited to kick off our first co-production together with our partners in Israel,” said Hahn. “We can’t wait for young fans around the world to meet The Covurts!”
Orly Atlas-Katz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) OF Ananey Communications said, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Nickelodeon International. I am certain that with their vast experience in content for kids, HOT's programming expertise and our high-end productions abilities, this show will be something to look forward to."
Ananey is an Israeli content producer and pay-TV provider that serves as the Israeli licensor of several of Viacom’s biggest brands, including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV, and produces both local and international original content.
Under the partnership, Nickelodeon has become Israel's No. 1 children's channel (ahead of Arutz HaYeladim, the local Hebrew-language kids content portal) and, alongside Nick Jr., reaches 49 percent of the youth audience, due in large part to Ananey’s original local productions for kids and teens.
The greenlight of The Covurts comes on the heels of Viacom purchasing a minority stake in Ananey Communications Group in 2017.
Nutz most recently entered a co-pro deal with Bunim/Murray Productions’ new BMP Kids division on the youth prank show Gotcha, which bowed on Nick Israel last December. Other popular Nutz series currently airing on Nick Israel include Spell Keepers, Bed & Biscuit and The Hood, which was recently greenlit for a third season.
About Nickelodeon International:
Nickelodeon, now in its 39th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon is one of the most globally recognized and widely distributed multimedia entertainment brands for kids and family, with 1.2 billion cumulative subscriptions in more than 500 million households across 170+ countries and territories, via more than 100+ locally programmed channels and branded blocks. For more information or artwork, visit http://www.nickpress.com. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB).
About Nutz Productions:
Founded in 2010, Nutz Productions is a high-end concept and production arm for Ananey Communications Group. Nutz produces all the original series for the Viacom brands (including shows on the Israeli Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Teen Nick and MTV Israel), as well as for other Israeli networks. The company also develops content in close cooperation with foreign production entities, honing its expertise in international productions. Recently, Nutz Productions was commissioned by Netflix to produce its remake production of Greenhouse Academy – an original live-action daily-drama series which was first broadcast for 4 seasons on Nickelodeon Israel and locally produced by Nutz as well.

Nickelodeon Latin America, Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, and Disney Channel Partner to Launch Semana Del Juguete Initiative [Updated]
Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica), along with Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, and the Disney Channels have joined together to present Semana Del Juguete (Toy Week), a brand-new initiative that invites children and adults to rediscover the important value of play and the bonds that people develop during childhood through toys.

Paramount Moves Up 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ Movie Release Date; Nickelodeon Announces New 'AYAOTD' Miniseries
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society...
One of the most anticipated films of 2019 is Are You Afraid of the Dark?, a feature film adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved ’90s television series in which a group of kids get together in the woods to tell ghost stories.
Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players (Dora the Explorer) is developing the movie in conjunction with Nickelodeon Movies.
Just before the holidays, it was announced that D.J. Caruso will direct the feature that screenwriter Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun, Annabelle: Creation) previously said will “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show.” Dauberman has penned an all-new story focused on the tale-telling Midnight Society huddled around a campfire, along with Matt Kaplan. The most recent draft of the film was written by BenDavid Grabinski.
Now, Paramount is making a small release shift, opening the film a week earlier than originally slated: Friday, October 4, 2019, reports Bloody Disgusting.
Caruso’s most recent directing gigs include The Disappointments Room and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, although he also helmed the fantastic teen thriller Disturbia back in 2007.
Update (2/15): Nickelodeon announced during Nickelodeon Upfront 2019 that, to celebrate the release of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie, the beloved anthology series will return this October as a brand-new miniseries and follow new members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire in the woods to share scary stories! The miniseries will coincide with the upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark? theatrical movie from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Players’ and Nickelodeon Movies, in theaters October 2019.
The show revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as The Midnight Society. Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. The new film will be a completely original story told by The Midnight Society.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a Canadian Twilight Zone-esqie anthology series created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. It revolved around a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society and would meet weekly at a secret location in the woods, where one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. Subjects ranged from abandoned houses and vampires to scary clowns, witches and aliens. The show was revived in 1999 for two more seasons with new writers and showrunners.
The series debuted in 1990 on the Canadian children's channel YTV and was picked up by Nickelodeon USA in 1991, though it didn’t debut until SNICK’s launch on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992. The show ran until April 1996, and a revival series with new writers, directors, writers and cast members was produced by Nickelodeon from 1999 to 2000. In all, the series ran for 91 episodes over seven seasons. Tia and Tamera Mowry, Will Friedle, Neve Campbell, Hayden Christensen, Jay Baruchel, Tatyana Ali, Melissa Joan Hart, Jewel Staite, and two-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling are just a few of the household names that lent their acting skills to the anthology.
Each episode was introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,” who then would announce the title of that segment. MacHale said the line was a tribute to the series The Twilight Zone, in which creator Rod Serling would introduce the episode by saying, “submitted for your approval.”
Gary Dauberman recently revealed that the film won’t be an anthology collection of short horror stories, but instead a single horror story told around the campfire by The Midnight Society. Dauberman also revealed that he isn’t adapting any of the stories from the show, telling /Film earlier this year that the film will be a completely original story told by The Midnight Society:
“It is a completely original story I came up with, but it still has the Midnight Society and it still has the campfire. It’s still a story being told."
The writer's comments seem to imply that the narrative will put more emphasis on the storytellers as opposed to merely being a collection of creepy stories. He also detailed why it's so important to deliver younger viewers creepy stories.
“That show is so important to me. I didn’t want to age it down too much because for it’s time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes. Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again," Dauberman admitted. "I really embraced that side of things and I think it’s been a long time. I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things and that’s something I really wanted to do with Are You Afraid of the Dark? I think it is scary and I think kids will be scared watching it at times, and also they’ll laugh at times. I think it’s got a great message. I think it’s got a great heart to it but it is still scary. I think that’s great. I think it’s going to open it up to a wider audience.”
Dauberman also previously told The Hollywood Reporter:
“The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We’re going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.”
The big question is whether there will be an all-new Midnight Society telling the story, or will the old gang back together from the original series be making a comeback? More than likely it’ll be a new crew, but maybe we’ll get some cameos from the original cast members.
The Midnight Society will convene for the first time in almost 20 years when Are You Afraid of the Dark? opens in theaters Oct. 4, 2019.
The movie comes as Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving a slate of the network's beloved '90s. Rugrats for example, is being rebooted for not only a Nickelodeon TV show, but a CGI/live-action movie as well. Nickelodeon also announced that Rocko's Modern Life would be returning to the network with a TV movie, as well as Invader Zim, which will likely be getting its TV movie in 2019. Nickelodeon also revived Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! for TV movies, which aired in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and has also revived Double Dare. Nickelodeon is also in the planning stages to revive Clarissa Explains It All.

Isabela Moner Talks 'Dora the Explorer', Future Plans and More
Collider has named Instant Family star Isabela Moner is the publication's Up-and-Comer of the Month but to be honest, it’s a bit of a cheat. See, Moner has been up-and-coming for a while. In fact, she has already arrived, having caught her big break in 2014 with the Nickelodeon show 100 Things to Do Before High School, followed by her made-for-TV movie debut in Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple, then her big screen break when Michael Bay hand-picked her to star in last year’s blockbuster Transformers: The Last Knight, for which she earned a Teen Choice Award nomination. Since then, Moner hasn’t looked back. She starred opposite Benicio Del Toro in this summer’s acclaimed sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and a month after that she was on her way to Australia to shoot Paramount Players and Nickelodeon Movies' live-action Dora the Explorer movie (her third for Paramount) in which she plays the adventurous lead. So, you’ve probably seen Moner already, and if not then I assure you, you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of her in the future.
Collider got the chance to talk to Isabela from the movie set of Dora the Explorer, in which the young actor talks about her brand-new movie Instant Family and the up-and-coming Dora the Explorer. Check out the bits in which Isabela talks about Dora the Explorer below, and make sure to head to Collider.com to read Isabela's awesome interview in full!:
Congrats on being named Collider’s Up-and-Comer of the Month for November!
I appreciate [all] of this. I’m still confused as to like, if I’m relevant or not. I don’t know, and personally I’d rather not be, because I like the place where I’m at right now. I feel like I really like my career and where it is at right now. I love it. I’m still able to do some crazy stuff in public and no one cares about me or what I’m doing, and it’s awesome.
That anonymity may not last much longer, given how well your career is going.
I know, I know. That’s the only thing I regret about signing up for Dora.
[...]
Do you feel like homegrown talent at Paramount, having started your career at Nickelodeon? You did this film after Transformers, and now you’re shooting a third Paramount movie, Dora the Explorer, where they’re entrusting you with another huge IP. Do you feel like you’re a part of the family over there, in a sense?
Yeah, I feel like I know the marketing team and the lawyers. They’ve taken me in and entrusted me with so much, and for that I’m really grateful. And I’m really grateful that they choose to represent my culture as well. They’ve always been advocates for that, in my experience, at least. I’ve had nothing but ‘yes’s’ from them as far as like, speaking in Spanish during some scenes, or even just speaking Spanish during interviews. They’ve always been such advocates for that, and for that I’m grateful, because that’s one of my main priorities, too. They even have me in the Christmas cards this year, so I got to sing part of the “Jingle Bells” song with John Krasinski and all the people who are in their movies. I thought it was awesome.
I’ve got to talk to Paramount and get on their Christmas card list!
Yeah! Right?
[...]
What has been the biggest pinch me-moment of your career so far?
Oh God, every day! Every single day there’s something new. If I think about it too much, I feel kind of anxious. There’s a lot going on that I somehow just happen to deal with. I’m surprised by the same thing. But I do have knitting on my side, and i have my dog that I just adopted. His name is Pluto and he has three legs. He’s the cutest little boy. He’s the goodest boy ever.
[...]
Can you give us a taste of the adventure we’ll see in Dora the Explorer and the kinds of things James Bobin has you doing on set?
The thing is, I know that I can’t really say much about it, but I’ll talk about it as much as I can. Basically, this experience I joined for the fact that I really think it’s going to be a big movement, politically-wise, because it’s an all-Latino cast. Instead of like… you know how they have token black guys or token Latino guys in movies? We have one token white guy in the main cast. I’m working with Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria, Michael Pena and Jeffrey Wahlberg, who’s amazing. He’s half-Dominican. It’s been a great experience and I’ve worked so hard at this. My motto is, if you put 100 percent of you and your energy and everything that you’ve got into something, there’s no way that at least you can fail. So I am very proud of this and we only have one week left. I never thought that at 17, I’d be waking up at 5 a.m. every day, working six-day weeks until they very last minute that they can legally work me for, and still remain sane. Like, I’m surprised I did it, because back in the day I really had trouble getting up for school and doing homework and actually submitting it. Either way, if this movie [Dora] is a flop, which I doubt it will be, but if it is, I’m going to be so happy that I did this and it’s out there. I can say, ‘I did that shit. Like, I did that!’ I hope I inspire all the little Hispanic girls and boys out there. That’s who I’m doing this for. We had a bunch of kids visit the set, some of them are Make-A-Wish kids, some of them are crew members’ kids who visit, and when they freak out about meeting Dora, I’m like, ‘damn, this is it. This is what I do this for.’ Kids are my favorite because they’re so pure. They’re really mean sometimes because they’re super honest, but I trust them as a good judge of character. And they’re always so nice to me, so I feel really awesome. You just have to talk to them like adults. You can’t baby them. They’re smart, You’ve gotta address them with some authority, some respect. Put some respect on it!
You’ve gotta ask to keep the costume!
I know, I know! I probably will. I’m already slowly taking stuff. I’ll subtly ask for it and they’ll be like, ‘you can take it.’ I know they’re not telling me that I can, but I still take it because they have so many doubles, and hey, they have a big budget.
Is college in your plans at all?
I’m done with high school, so right now I’m taking a lot of college classes online and just trying to keep up with that, because I don’t just want to stop. It’s actually surprisingly easy to get work done between shot setups, but if I don’t want to do this next year and want to take a half a year break, I’m just going to go to college. I study psychology. That’s my main thing, I think. I like the human mind and how messed up it is. If I do one more full semester I would have my Associate’s Degree, so I’m really trying to work towards that.
I think that’s awesome. Congrats. You have a huge social media presence right now. Do you ever worry about it getting you into trouble? Do you think you’ll ever outgrow it. How do you like to use it?
It’s so weird. Social media is so weird. I hate it to be honest, but I feel like we all need it in order to get our voices out there and really speak on things that we care about. That’s the only time I use it. But I know people just want the selfies. They just want the vacation pics. So I have to find a [happy] medium there. I have to trick them, like, I’ll post some selfies, but then I’ll post something I really care about. And it’ll just throw them off. You’ve just got to keep a balance there. It’s weird, I feel like half the time I’m selling my soul just to keep people entertained on social media, but it also has been very beneficial, especially in my work with UNICEF. I’ve been working with them a lot, and the more I continue to support them on social media, the more they want to be involved with my work. It’s just like, a way of fundraising. It’s social media. It’s its own beast. But everyone needs it, I guess, nowadays.
What’s next for you, Isabela? Do you have any aspirations to write or direct, or to make more music? [Broadway Records released her album, Stopping Time, in 2015.]
I feel like my goal is bigger than acting. I already write, and I’m not saying it’s good, but I wrote this song for the end of Instant Family. It’s called “I’ll Stay,” and that alone was so nerve-racking for me to get out there, so I think it’s going to take a while for me to even write, like, a screenplay or something, let alone show anyone. But I definitely want to direct. Sean Anders inspired me on this one, because he made it seem so effortless even though obviously it’s a lot of work. He was just so passionate about it.
Anything lined up after Dora?
Other than time with my family? No. I’m very, very, very excited to get back home and be with my brothers. And also, writing. I’ve been having weird dreams about being locked out of a recording studio, so that’s a thing. And I haven’t touched a piano in so long, and there’s this old piano at my house that I just miss so much, and I refuse to play keyboard. I can’t just rent one. So I can’t wait to play that piano. That’s my main thing.
Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with me today. Congrats on Instant Family and good luck with the rest of the Dora shoot.
Thank you so much, and rest in peace, Stan Lee! Love you, man. Oh my God, there’s a guy who just passed by who looked just like Stan Lee. Whoa! I just saw the ghost of Stan Lee. No, he’s definitely real and a little bit chubbier, but he’s still cute. Like Stan.

As one of three siblings in real life, did you draw on any personal family experiences to prepare for some of the chaos of Instant Family?
Oh yes… I definitely drew from personal experience. There are a few examples: on some aspects I personally can relate to Lizzy but I feel like I have a little bit of each sibling in me. I have Lizzy’s motherly care for my younger brother, Gyo. I have Juan’s emotional side of me who just cries in any tense situation, and also his clumsy side. And then I have a little bit of Lita’s character in me where I’m just a crazy coocoo-head who plays with boxes and uses her imagination, and prefers a cardboard box over a fancy dollhouse for a Christmas gift. The chaos came very easily. The yelling in Spanish also came very easily – that’s my family’s favourite method of arguing, it’s just more fun [laughs].
But also, when I was auditioning for this, I couldn’t be there in LA because I had to be in Cleveland. I [had to] self-tape but it was at night so I spent hours setting up the lights and I put the camera on the tripod and I was getting ready to do the FaceTime audition. It was a huge risk they were taking because Mark and I were already in a movie together [Transformers: The Last Knight] and it was sort of the same kind of chemistry, and I don’t think they wanted to see me initially for that reason. But eventually they came around. Of course, as soon as we started that FaceTime call, my brother started getting ready for basketball. I don’t know why this guy thought it was a good idea. He knew I was auditioning but he decided to bounce the basketball around our home. And I was so irritated, I wanted to just bite his head off! But damn, I really miss him now. I’ve been in Australia [shooting her lead role in Dora The Explorer] and I wish he was here bouncing his basketball, annoying the hell out of me.
Your performance in Instant Family feels like a massive moment for you. And then you're following that as none other than the world-famous Dora the Explorer. Is it fair to say you're having something of a 'moment'?
You never know when the moment is going to be the ‘moment’, you usually don’t realise it until after. I’m not projecting anything, things just happen at the right time and the right place and I’ve been really blessed. Even if it was a moment, I don’t think I’d be able to really realise. I have a hard time knowing how popular I am – do people actually know who I am, or are they like [it’s] ‘that chick from Nickelodeon’ or ‘that chick from Transformers’? [Laughs] I don’t really know, I’m not very aware of these things.
Overall, I’m really lucky to have acting as well as singing. Within acting you’re always being told what to do. You are being creative, but you’re also always being told to do something by someone. Whereas with writing and singing I find that to be my most creative outlet. At the end of the day it’s these projects and these moments that give me more material to work with and write music with.
The experience I had on Instant Family alone allowed me to write a song that I really was passionate about and poured my heart and soul into. I was very happy, honoured and appreciative to Sean for seeing the opportunity for him to put one of my songs in the soundtrack. I mean, that’s crazy! I was like, ‘Are you sure you’re not doing a charity thing? You know you don’t have to do this out of pity?’ [Laughs] I don’t know, it’s just really crazy that this is all happening. It’s so nice to be decent at something you love to do. That’s how I’m feeling about this ‘moment’ you say I’m having. That’s why choosing to do the movie after this, Dora [The Explorer], was also a huge risk for me, because I wasn’t sure if I could do it. But as soon as I got into character and studied it, it was quite easy. It’s all about getting comfortable with being uncomfortable! That’s the only way we’ll ever improve...

Check out Matt Hunter and Isabela Moner's brand-new single, "Lista De Espera" here! The track is a bit like a Dora the Explorer reunion, as Matt voiced Diego in Dora the Explorer and spin-off Go, Diego, Go!, and Isabela voiced Kate in Dora and Friends and is playing Dora in the upcoming live-action movie!
Dora the Explorer stars Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Sicario: Day of the Soldado) will star as the titular teen, who heads out on an adventure with her best friend, Boots the monkey, and her cousin Diego.
11-time Emmy and four-time BAFTA nominee director James Bobin (Alice Through the Looking Glass) has assembled a cast of diverse superstars such as: Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Instant Family), who portrays the teen adventurer; Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives, Overboard) and Michael Peña, who play the parents of the titular character; Eugenio Derbez (Overboard, Instructions Not Included; How to Be A Latin Lover), who plays Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect the teenagers from the marauders; Jeffrey Wahlberg (Future World, Ballers, Counterpart, Reefa) in the role of cousin Diego; Nicholas Coombe (Spy Kids: Mission Control, Midnight Sun) as Randy, a fellow high schooler who develops an immediate crush on Dora; Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tidelands) as the school’s snooty class president, Sammy; and Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel, Amores Perros, Thor, The 33) as Dora’s grandma, Abuelita Valerie; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern, Moana), who will play the role of Powell; Q’orianka Kilcher (The Alienist), will play Inca Princess Kawillaka; Pia Miller (Home and Away) as Dora's aunt Mami; Madelyn Miranda, who portrays Young Dora; and Benicio del Toro as the voice of Swiper the fox.
The movie will tell the story of Dora, a girl who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, but now must navigate her most dangerous adventure yet: high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.
Nicholas Stoller and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel wrote the script, and Walden Media is co-financing and co-producing the film with Paramount, which is slated to release Dora the Explorer on Aug. 2, 2019.
Dora the Explorer is based on the popular Nickelodeon children’s show, and Paramount Players has a mandate to leverage Viacom-owned properties for the big screen treatment. The studio is also developing a feature adaptation of the beloved Nick series Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
Dora the Explorer is produced by Christopher Robin producer Kristin Burr, who is joined by longtime Bobin associate, executive producer John G. Scotti (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as well as executive producers Julia Pistor (The Spiderwick Chronicles, A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Eugenio Derbez.
The production marks the lovable Latina character’s big screen debut (and first live-action adaptation on any platform) after fourteen seasons (2000-2014) and 172 episodes on Nickelodeon.
Dora the Explorer is a Paramount Players and Nickelodeon production in association with Walden Media.

Nickelodeon to Premiere 'Glitch Techs' in 2019; Halts Production on Season 2 [Updated 1/27]
The latest news updates about Nickelodeon's upcoming animated series Glitch Techs.
Update (1/8/2019): Production crew are reporting on social media that Nickelodeon today (Tuesday, January 8, 2019) unfortunately halted production of Glitch Techs. The crew were in the midst of production of season two. However, as the show has yet to premiere, Nickelodeon wants to air the show before spending more money on it - even if that means losing the whole crew. Evan Palmer, who broke the news on Twitter, stressed that the show has not been cancelled at this point, just that production has been halted. It has also been revealed that the first season is nearly complete, and it is still set to air during 2019. Following the news breaking, production crew working on Glitch Techs paid tribute to the show on social media. A selection of posts can be read below.
Update (1/10): Eric Robles, the co-creator of Glitch Techs, has reiterated in a post on Instagram that Glitch Techs has NOT been cancelled:
"I want to thank you all for reaching out in support of Dan, myself and the Glitch Techs team. To clear any bad air, please know Glitch Techs is not cancelled. As I write this, we are in production, getting amazing animation back from Europe and Asia. Let me also speak from the heart when I say that Nickelodeon Animation has been nothing but supportive in ensuring Dan and myself the freedom to create an original and unique IP in a time where these types of projects are few and far between. As most of you know, until a show actually airs most studios will only grant a writing pick up for your series and only IF they feel good about the show’s chances. So in our case, we were deeply grateful when Nickelodeon saw fit to pick up an extra half-season production order. This kept our amazing team of artists and designers together longer than we ever could have expected.. As you can guess, producing animated shows, (particularly with ambitious and dynamic action sequences,) can get very expensive. As we hit the new year still being an untested show and with money needed for brand new content, we were told the business decision was for the network to launch our series with 20 gorgeous episodes for you and kids at home to respond to. Although our crew’s abrupt dismissal this past week was a terrible shock, we remain so grateful for the time they were able to devote to our second season episodes. We can only hope that when the show finally airs and reaches its audience, production on the remainder of our half season (and hopefully more,) can resume. As a kid growing up, I always dreamt of working and sharing ideas with people as talented as our crew and now I find myself having had the privilege to work with them every single day for the last two and a half years. I cannot express how much fun it has been to create this show and know it is going to have an impact when we share it with the world. I can’t stress how important it is for our industry to support each other and those who support original ideas. Please keep following me for future updates on Nickelodeon’s Glitch Techs and thank you all for reading this.

Double Dare at Super Bowl premieres on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m. ET/PT, simulcast across Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and TeenNick
January 28, 2019 01:52 PM Eastern Standard Time
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon and the National Football League (NFL) are teaming up to get kids and families pumped up for the big game, with Double Dare at Super Bowl, a brand-new Super Bowl-themed episode of the net’s iconic game show, premiering Sunday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m. ET/PT, simulcast across Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and TeenNick. Nickelodeon will kick off its week-long coverage of all the festivities at Super Bowl LIII today, by giving kids behind-the-scenes access to Opening Night, interviews with players from both Super Bowl teams, and a sneak peek at Super Bowl Live and all of the excitement taking place in downtown Atlanta, GA.
Double Dare at Super Bowl is a 45-minute competition special, pitting two teams of NFL athletes, Nickelodeon stars and real kids against one another in a series of exciting, football-themed trivia questions and messy physical challenges. Hosted by Liza Koshy and featuring color commentary from Marc Summers, the teams will include NFL athletes Drew Brees and Russell Wilson, as well as Nickelodeon stars Scarlett Spencer and Dallas Dupree Young (Cousins for Life). The special will be taped on the PLAY FOOTBALL field at the Super Bowl Experience.
In addition to bragging rights, each Double Dare at Super Bowl team will be competing for a $10,000 donation to one of Nickelodeon and the NFL’s pro-social partners, PLAYWORKS and Special Olympics, respectively. PLAYWORKS is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to improve children’s social and emotional health by increasing opportunities for physical activity at schools. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Double Dare is produced for Nickelodeon by FremantleMedia North America. Marc Summers is Executive Producer. Liza Koshy is Executive Producer. Peter Herschko and Josh Silberman also serve as Executive Producers.

Update (1/30) - Nickelodeon at Super Bowl LIII Opening Night:
From Atlanta Magazine:
The most interesting things we saw at Super Bowl LIII Opening Night
Clowns, scorpions, and goats, oh my!

Double Dare!
If you don’t recognize the man in the above photo, you are likely not a millennial. That would be Marc Summers, the host of 1990s Nickelodeon game show Double Dare (and also the host of Food Network’s Unwrapped). Nickelodeon is doing a Double Dare at the Super Bowl special, which will tape at the Super Bowl Experience on Thursday and air on Sunday and features Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. During Opening Night, the Double Dare team roamed the floor, with a kid correspondent who had players throw mini footballs into a helmet perched on top of his head or at a Velcro sandwich board.
###
Also, from the Associated Press via the Chicago Sun-Times:
Many Rams were able to break away from the throngs of onlookers and pretend media on the floor to return to their childhoods. Marcus Peters and Dante Fowler Jr., walked onto a makeshift stage Monday night and played a tossing game for the Nickelodeon show “Double Dare.”
It was a quick respite for the Los Angeles Rams defensive duo, and cornerback Peters appeared to beat linebacker Fowler in the game. Then they were back into the scrum of microphones and TV cameras.
As for the Patriots, well, the lineup was short.
“We’re having them do physical challenges,” said Marc Summers, the long-time host of the program. “But we’re not getting the Patriots to come over. New England has been here many times and they are confident and are a little over this (scene). The Rams are having the time of their lives and enjoying participating in everything.”
A few minutes later, Patriots placekicker Stephen Gostkowski might have invited the wrath of his coach by actually taking part in one of Summers’ activities, a mini-basketball challenge. Talk about being unafraid of a double dare.
