Plot details for the film remain under wraps, however, it is known that the movie will follow Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko as young adults, following. The movie will be set between the events of the finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel, The Legend of Korra.

The new Avatar animated film is set for release on October 10, 2025 from Paramount.

The studios announced in June 2022 that three standalone Avatar animated films were in development through their Avatar Studios label. The 2025 film was the first to get a release date. Lauren Montgomery, who worked on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, is directing the project, with original series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko executive producing alongside Eric Coleman. William Mata, a veteran storyboard artist who worked on DC League of Super Pets, is co-directing. Producers on the film include Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger.

“Fans of the beloved Avatar have been asking and we’ve answered the call,” Paramount chief Brian Robbins said of the film, the first of three animated films in the series.

Eric Nam is a popular K-pop idol, and has been a part of projects such as The Loud House, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and created a number of projects for his musical career in South Korea.

When it comes to Dave Bautista, his acting resume is almost too long to count in one article, but most recently, he has had roles in Dune 2, Knives Out: The Glass Onion, and Studio Ghibli's The Boy And The Heron. While Bautista's role has yet to be revealed, it's sure to be a challenging one for Aang and his friends since the benders came a long way in the original animated series.

Airing for three seasons between 2005 and 2008, Avatar: The Last Airbender followed Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen), a young boy reawakening in a war-torn world of elemental magic to undertake a dangerous mystic quest—thereby fulfilling his destiny as the Avatar, and bringing peace to the world. Nickelodeon followed up that hugely popular series with sequel The Legend of Korra, which aired for four seasons between 2012 and 2014. In the years since, the multimedia franchise has continued to expand with a 2010 live-action feature starring Dev Patel, which M. Night Shyamalan directed, as well as assorted best-selling comics, books, video games and home media releases. A live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series recently debuted at Netflix, which has been renewed for seasons two and three.

The original animated “Avatar” series ran from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon, with “The Legend of Korra” continuing its story from 2012 to 2014. The shows follow the adventures of the mystical Avatar, a person who can master all four elements of nature: air, water, earth and fire. The original series starred Avatar Aang, who must learn to master the elements to defeat the evil Fire Nation with his friends Katara, Sokka and Toph. Netflix released a live-action version of the show earlier this year.
