Nat & Alex Wolff in Talks with Netflix for Possible 'Naked Brothers Band' Special

Could there be a The Naked Brothers Band reunion in the future?

It’s been more than a decade since the end of The Naked Brothers Band, but brothers Nat and Alex Wolff, who filmed a Zoom reunion for the Nickelodeon series in April, look back on the show as if it was just yesterday. “The Naked Brothers Band was one of the most exciting parts of our lives,” Nat told StyleCaster.

The fervor around the series, which was based on the movie of the same, is still alive for fans as well. After the Zoom reunion, Nat and Alex were approached by Netflix for a Naked Brothers Band special, though, at the moment, the project is only a “conversation.” “There’s nothing real going on yet, but we’re always open to that,” Nat says. “It would have to be perfect.”

Earlier this year, Alex revealed that the siblings have talked about a potential reunion's storyline. “We did talk about Alex, who [was] a lemon-lime [soda] addict, is probably a drug addict,” said Alex, before admitting that probably wouldn’t fly with Nickelodeon. Talking about the series, Alex revealed that “I have not outgrown it.”

Whether a Naked Brothers Band reboot becomes real or not, Nat and Alex have their hands full at the moment with their music career. The brothers released their latest single, “Glue,” on Friday, August 7, and have another single, “Winter Baby,” and an EP on the way.

Nat and Alex also talked to StyleCaster about how their fans have grown up with them:

“Our music has evolved in the way we’ve evolved. Luckily, our core fans have stuck with us as we grew and the music grew," said Nat. "as we took different turns left and right, the music went with us and the audience has stayed with us. We’ve been lucky that we’ve never tried to appeal or make any kind of music to appeal to anyone. We just make music that we want to hear, that came out of our hearts.

“Everytime we put out music, we get a group of new fans. But we have the same core fans since we were kids," said Alex. "There’s a community of fans of ours, and they even become friends with each other. It’s a beautiful thing. They come to our show. They’ll fly in from places. It’s amazing to be a part of people’s lives like that.”

It seems like the boys still have a love of lemon-flavored beverages. Talking to Alternative Press, Alex revealed that one of the things that has been holding them together during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has been lemon-flavored White Claw.

The Naked Brothers Band aired for 37 (+5 specials) between February 3, 2007 – June 13, 2009. The series is a spinoff of Draper's film of the same name that was picked up by Nickelodeon, premiering in January 2007. Draper, known for her starring role in Thirtysomething, is the executive producer, and often writer and director. Albie Hecht, Nickelodeon's former president of film and television entertainment and former president of Spike TV, is also the executive producer, under his Worldwide Biggies label. Michael Wolff, who led the band on The Arsenio Hall Show, serves as co-executive producer and music supervisor, with Draper's brother, Tim, as the consulting producer.

The show's theme song is "If That's Not Love" by Nat Wolff.

Could a 'Naked Brothers Band' Reunion Be on the Horizon?

Could there be a The Naked Brothers Band reunion in the future?

In an awesome interview with Variety, Alex Wolff, who starred in Nickelodeon's popular noughties musical comedy series alongside his brother Nat, revealed that he's hoping for a Naked Brothers Band reunion - and the siblings have even talked about the reunion's storyline!

“We did talk about Alex, who [was] a lemon-lime [soda] addict, is probably a drug addict,” Wolff told Variety, before admitting that probably wouldn’t fly with Nickelodeon.

Talking about the series, Alex revealed that “I have not outgrown it.”

Would you like to see a Naked Brothers Band reunion? Let me know in the comments!

Update (4/9) - From NME:

Born in New York to a creative family – his mum works in the industry, his dad as a jazz pianist – Alex began acting at the age of 6 when his mum produced The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie for Nickelodeon. The subsequent TV series continued to team Alex with his older brother Nat – and after three years and 43 episodes, the two siblings formed a pop-rock duo called (originally) Nat & Alex Wolff. Their debut album didn’t quite fly off the shelves, and Alex focused his career on movie roles instead. He might have worked hard from an early age, but really, Alex says, they were just messing about.

“I remember on my first day,” he says. “Me and my brother were in this bunk bed, right before we shot the first scene [of The Naked Brothers Band] and I was egging him on: ‘You don’t have the guts to kick me’. And right as they rolled the camera, he kicked me in the face and I started sobbing. That was day one of shooting. So from there on it was a very interesting dynamic.”

###

Created by Nat and Alex's real life mom, Polly Draper, The Naked Brothers Band followed the daily lives of Draper's sons, who lead a faux world-renowned rock band in New York City. As a mockumentary, the storyline is an embellished parody of their real lives, and the fictional presence of a camera is often acknowledged.

The show stars Nat Wolff and Alex Wolff, the lead singer-songwriter, and drummer, respectively. Nat's fictional female interest (portrayed by Allie DiMeco) and real life friends Thomas Batuello, David Levi, and Cooper Pillot, as well as Qaasim Middleton—who has no prior acquaintance with the family—feature as the other band members, with Draper's jazz musician husband Michael Wolff as his sons' widowed accordion-playing dad, and her niece Jesse Draper portraying the group's babysitter.

Guest stars included Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), Victoria Justice (Victorious), Leon Thomas III (Victorious), Snoop Dogg (Sanjay and Craig, Game Shakers), George Lopez (Lopez Tonight), Tony Hawk (Rocket Power), Phil Collins, Natasha Bedingfield and Whoopi Goldberg.

Following the show's premiere, the band's song "Crazy Car" was placed on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the first and second season soundtrack albums were on the top 200 Billboard charts.

The show's theme song is "If That's Not Love" by Nat Wolff.

A collaboration between the Coffee Shop and the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, the Music for Music event is an exciting new concert and afternoon music party showcasing talented high school musicians from New York City and headlining band AMERICAN AUTHORS. The inaugural Music for Music performances will include:

American Authors: Up and coming Brooklyn alt rock band American Authors, made their major musical debut when "a friend of a friend" showed their song "Believer" to the Sirius XM radio station Alt Nation. Grabbing the attention of listeners with their meaningful lyrics and an original sound, they gained momentum and have since signed to Dirty Canvas/Mercury Records. They have been on multiple tours with such bands as A Silent Film, Goldfields, and Carousel, played South-by-South West and are currently working on their debut album. As American Authors say: "We all have a story to tell and whether it's audible, visual, silence or motion, we can't hide the fact that we are constantly creating new moments to share. We are American Authors."

Nat & Alex Wolff : Actor/musician brothers who starred in the Nickelodeon television series, The Naked Brothers Band. In 2011, the Wolffs' released Black Sheep, their debut solo album. With multiple upcoming films and a variety of new music on deck, Nat (18) and Alex (15) are slated for a breakout year in 2013. The teens currently reside in NYC.

Claire's Diary: Mixes grunge/punk/surf-rock with "dancey-girl-group" 60s harmonies, along with some feminist riot grrrl inspired lyrics in one delicious serving. The band ( Sophie Rae , Izzy Schappell , Kiri Oliver , and Joey Koneko) played their first show at Slutwalk NYC in October 2011 and released their first recorded track, the theme song for Rookie Magazine, "Suzy's Alright," in October 2011. Claire's Diary released their double single for "Girl Next Door" and "Build Me A Hero" in August 2012 and their first full length LP in February 2013.

The CounterFits: Having been playing together since 2006 (under the name Call Me 212), band members ( Brock Petterson , Cal Freundlich and Hudson McLane ) recently added a new drummer ( Michael Brittenham ) and will debut their new band, The CounterFits, at this event. Trained at the famed Third Street Music School, the ninth graders have previously played audiences at Webster Hall.

The Sectionals: Sofia D'Angelo, Mick Golden , and Cyan Hunte are three fourteen-year-olds with such a passionate love of music that they decided to make their own. From three different NYC schools, they met at a Lowell's World Young Musicians Showcase at the Underground Lounge and formed the band in October 2012. A Power Trio – bass, drums and guitar, coupled with strong vocals – they have performed shows at many venues throughout NYC and are currently recording their first EP due out this summer.

Jack & Eliza: When the youngest ever winner of the prestigious John Lennon Song Writing Contest (Eliza) asked the main song writer for The Tension and Bleeker St. (Jack) to write some songs, is was supposed to just be for fun…for them. After sold out shows at Joe's Pub and Le Piosson Rouge, along with a killer debut single ("Motel Home"), and it turns out that it's fun for all. Look out for their self-titled EP out in late spring.

All of the program's young musicians are committed to ensuring their peers in NYC public schools have the same opportunities to also pursue and develop a love of music. The performing students also share a pledge to helping VH1 continue to keep music education at public schools. There is perhaps no better way to assist the VH1 Save the Music program than by raising money during an afternoon of music, fun and community fellowship.
