'The Secret World of Alex Mack' Cast Set to Reunite for Their First-Ever Convention at 90s Con In October 2026

"To get to reunite and reminisce with the cast of 'Alex Mack' is such a gift,' said Larisa Oleynik.

Long before Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, junior high school student Alexandra Mack was nearly hit by a truck and drenched in an experimental chemical called GC-161 that gave her superpowers—and The Secret World of Alex Mack was born.

The Nickelodeon hit, starring Larisa Oleynik in the title role, aired for four seasons from 1994 to 1998. And now, it's been revealed that the cast is reuniting for their first convention at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, in October.

Oleynik will be joined at the annual star-studded convention by Meredith Bishop (who played Alex's older sister Annie), Darris Love (who played Ray, Alex's best friend and next-door neighbor) and Natanya Ross (who was Robyn, one of Alex and Ray's neighborhood pals).

"To get to reunite and reminisce with the cast of Alex Mack is such a gift," Oleynik, 44, told PEOPLE, who first reported the news. "We hope the fans are as excited to share with us as we are with them! I'm very much looking forward to celebrating my favorite decade with some of my favorite people."

“After more than 30 years, to get to go back with my sacred 90s TV family and run it back one more time means more than I can even put into words," Ross, 44, says. "We are so excited to not only be at 90s Con together this October, but also to all be together as a family again. It's so incredibly special, and to do it at the literal Best 90s pop culture show out there, we are beside ourselves. Years in the making, baby!”

Oleynik recently made her Nickelodeon homecoming in the sitcom Erin & Arron, this time playing the mom.

The Secret World of Alex Mack is available to stream on Prime Video.

The cast joins an already stacked lineup heading to Connecticut this fall. The lineup includes Selma Blair, Rachael Leigh Cook, Nick Carter, AJ McLean and Tara Reid, as well as Melrose Place's Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, Laura Leighton, Daphne Zuniga, Grant Show and Rob Estes; Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman duo Jane Seymour and Joe Lando; Step by Step's Patrick Duffy, Christine Lakin, Staci Kean, Angela Watson, Christopher Castile, Sasha Mitchell, Josh Byrne and Jason Marsden; Perfect Strangers pair Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn-Baker; Hocus Pocus director Kenny Ortega and stars Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, Omri Katz, Larry Bagby and Tobias Jelinek; and Wishbone voice actor Larry Brantley.

90s Con runs from Oct. 16-19 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Weekend and day passes are available to purchase through the official website.

Paramount+ Planning to Add Podcasts to Streaming Service

Paramount+ is planning to put podcasts on its signature streaming service, Business Insider has learned.

Paramount Skydance streaming executives told tech and product staffers in a Thursday (May 14) meeting that they see video podcasts as a growth opportunity.

Dan Reich, Paramount's Executive Vice President (EVP) of streaming product, told employees that his goal is to "get more of the video podcasts" and "slice those up into segments for us to surface" in the streamer's short-form feed, according to a recording of the call obtained by Business Insider.

Netflix added video podcasts in January, becoming the first Hollywood streamer to make a major push into the format long dominated by YouTube. Netflix licensed shows from podcast networks, including Bill Simmons' The Ringer. Other streamers, like Hulu and HBO Max, have let users watch companion podcasts in their apps, and Hulu began licensing podcasts this spring.

The theory is that podcasts — and short-form video, which Paramount+ has invested in — could help streamers boost engagement, particularly during the daytime.

Video podcasts can help with both "long-form discovery" and "viewing itself," Reich said.

A person familiar with Paramount's approach framed the podcast push as an exploration and as part of the company's culture of experimentation in tech and media.

Ellison's company distributes a handful of podcasts, including shows about hit shows Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Are You Afraid of the Dark?Yellowstone and Survivor, as well as podcasts from late-night hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and a continuation of Star Trek: Khan. Nickelodeon also has a partnership with Starglow to produce family-friendly podcasts inspired by the brand's popular preschool properties. Those podcasts don't currently appear on Paramount+, however.

Paramount is in talks with conservative podcaster Katie Miller — the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller — for a distribution deal, Axios reported on Thursday. Miller's podcast has featured interviews with many Trumpworld figures. Axios also reported that Paramount has spoken with podcast groups such as Jubilee Media.

Hugh Williams, a former Google exec who recently joined David Ellison's Paramount as an EVP and "Executive in Residence," said in the Thursday meeting that he's "pretty excited about podcasts."

"I think podcasts are great — I'm really glad we're getting into that space," Williams said on the call.

The product initiative to get podcasts onto Paramount+ began in early January and has a "target end" date of Tuesday, July 7, according to a screenshot of an internal project management dashboard viewed by Business Insider.

Another reference to the podcast project was labeled as a "key priority," a screenshot viewed by Business Insider showed.

Podcasts on Paramount+ could "exist as their own series," be tied to a franchise, or act as companion content, like an "aftershow," the screenshot said.

Jazzing up Paramount+

Paramount has been busy bolstering its namesake streamer.

Reich said on the Thursday call that his team was working with Paramount's news and sports groups to integrate some of their clips into the streamer.

"We're working with CBS Sports and CBS News to get all of their clips, sports highlights, news highlights into the service," Reich said. "That is a competitive advantage for us against companies like Netflix that don't have that volume of content."

Paramount+ added a short-form video feed in April on iOS mobile devices, which was a top first-quarter priority for the company.

The streamer is also looking to add interactive elements like a shopping feature and sports stats, which Williams nodded at.

"You can imagine sports scores, different ad formats, shoppable scenes," Williams said on the call. "I think there's just so much opportunity ahead of us."

Ellison's company is also combining the tech platforms for Paramount+ and Pluto TV this summer, and has brought together key technical teams to make that happen.

Paramount’s Warner Bros. Discovery Takeover Expected To Breach Its SkyShowtime Venture With Comcast - Report

Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is expected to create complications for its SkyShowtime partnership with Comcast, Deadline reports.

SkyShowtime Logo

Industry sources said Paramount’s proposed ownership of HBO Max will likely put the David Ellison-run company in breach of its joint venture agreement for SkyShowtime, a streaming service available in 22 European markets, boasting more than 9 million subscribers, per insiders.

SkyShowtime declined to comment. Paramount declined to comment on “speculation” regarding SkyShowtime. Comcast did not respond to a request for comment.

Deadline understands that the 50-50 pact between Paramount and Comcast means they do not compete with SkyShowtime in the territories where the streamer is available.

Paramount+ is accessible in seven European markets, but there is no overlap with SkyShowtime. Indeed, Paramount+ withdrew from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland in 2022 to make way for SkyShowtime. Comcast has not rolled out Peacock internationally, and SkyShowtime is not available in the UK, where the company owns Sky.

Paramount absorbing HBO Max would significantly change this dynamic. HBO Max operates in 21 of SkyShowtime’s 22 markets, including key territories such as Spain and the Nordics. Ellison has signalled that he intends to combine Paramount+ and HBO Max. “That would go against the whole joint venture thing,” said a well-placed person.

Sources close to SkyShowtime said Paramount’s WBD deal had created palpable uncertainty among employees, leading to speculation about how the mega-merger will affect SkyShowtime’s shareholder structure.

Change is anticipated, with sources suggesting that it would make sense for Paramount to take over the SkyShowtime arrangement, or at least become the dominant partner. Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh indicated as recently as March that the company was focused on its U.S. streaming strategy.

“A scenario in which Paramount assumes full control of the [SkyShowtime] platform and integrates it into its operations in EMEA is increasingly viewed as a likely strategic outcome,” said a source familiar with the thinking.

Paramount is currently seeking regulatory approval for the WBD deal and has said that it expects the acquisition to close in the third quarter of this year.

Deadline revealed last year that Paramount and Comcast have invested at least $1 billion into SkyShowtime since its launch, but sources said they do get a return on their investment because the streamer buys their content and generates subscription and ad revenue.

SkyShowtime is stocked with series like Sky Studios’ The Day of the Jackal and Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which has been a driver of subscriptions. It also hosts originals, such as Swedish drama Where the Sun Always Shines, which recently cast Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju, along with the latest Star Trek series, and a library of Nickelodeon shows. The streamer made an operating loss of €543.7M ($632M) in 2024, which was 3% down on 2023, when its losses stood at €561.9M.

SkyShowtime is based out of Sky’s campus on the outskirts of central London, but brought together its 300 employees for an all-hands offsite meeting in Budapest in January. Those present said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Monty Sarhan was in an ebullient mood, high-fiving employees, talking up the company’s performance, and committing to a new set of leadership pledges.

According to a copy of the commitments seen by Deadline, they included the pledge: “Try to maintain a positive and optimistic outlook, even in the face of challenges. Things are never as good – or as bad – as we think they are.”

Sources said this has not been straightforward amid shareholder uncertainty, and that some internal employee mood metrics have been below benchmarks. SkyShowtime’s position is that employee feedback after the Budapest gathering was “overwhelmingly positive.”

A Paramount spokesperson said: “SkyShowtime continues to operate under its established joint venture agreement. We don’t comment on speculation about contractual matters between shareholders.”
