Winx Club: The Magic Is Back [Rainbow]

Six new episodes of Winx Club: The Magic Is Back, the CGI reimagining of the globally popular animation franchise, will premiere on Netflix Tuesday, July 28. Produced by Rainbow, the next installment brings heightened stakes, new threats and a fresh remix of the fan-favorite theme “Forever Winx,” performed by Virginia Bocelli (daughter of renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli). The official Part 2 trailer was unveiled today.

First launched in 2004, Winx Club became a global animation phenomenon, captivating a generation of fans with its blend of magic, friendship, music and fashion. Reimagined with 3D CG animation and a contemporary visual style, Winx Club: The Magic Is Back is aimed at both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers discovering the series for the first time.

The series follows Bloom, an ordinary girl from Earth who discovers she is a fairy in possession of an ancient and mysterious power: the Dragon Flame. After enrolling at the prestigious Alfea School for Fairies and Witches, Bloom meets the fairies who become her closest allies — together forming the Winx Club, a team of young fairies devoted to protecting the Magical Dimension. Along the way, the six heroines learn that true strength lies not only in magic, but in courage, empathy and determination.

Part 2 Synopsis: In these six new episodes, Bloom returns to Gardenia in search of answers about her past — but the Trix strike first, and Bloom’s parents vanish. Stripped of her powers, Bloom teams up with the Winx and Hunter to track down her parents and recover the Dragon Flame. Meanwhile, the villainous Vexius manipulates Damien into turning against his own sister, and Tecna’s malfunctioning magic sends the team to Zenith — straight into an ambush by Damien and his army of Omega monster.

As Vexius’ dark magic descends on Alfea, the Winx must master an ancient power to save their school. The instalment builds to a thrilling finale, “Into the Woods,” in which Bloom is paired with Diaspro for a critical test – one she sabotages with unexpecte d help from the Trix. As secrets unravel and the battles intensify, the Winx must find a way to work together to save the fate of the Magical Dimension.

Ahead of the new episodes, Rainbow is also launching Winx Songs Universe, the most comprehensive Winx Club music collection ever released, bringing together the franchise’s complete catalog of more than 450 songs across YouTube, alongside tracks on Spotify and other major streaming platforms. Available globally now on YouTube, the collection invites fans to relive, or discover for the first time, the enchanting soundtrack.

Winx Club was created by Rainbow’s Founder & CEO, Iginio Straffi. Distributed across more than 190 countries since 2004, the franchise now encompasses nine seasons of the original animated series, two animated co-productions with Netflix (World of Winx), two Netflix Original live-action series (Fate: The Winx Saga), three theatrical features and four TV movies.

'Sam & Cat' Heads to CBBC in the U.K.

Nick News Brief: CBBC, the kids television brand of British public broadcaster BBC, has acquired the rights to Nickelodeon's hit comedy series, Sam & Cat!

At the time of posting, it's currently unknown when CBBC will start to air the show, and whether it'll be available on iPlayer, however, a show page for Sam & Cat has appeared on the CBBC website. The news follows CBBC picking up SpongeBob SquarePants season 11 for the channel and iPlayer this summer.

"In Sam & Cat, McCurdy (iCarly's Sam Puckett) and Grande (Victorious' Cat Valentine) are back as their respective iconic characters from iCarly and Victorious in this new spin-off comedy. Sam & Cat follows feisty Sam and flighty Cat as they become best friends and unlikely roommates who start a babysitting service."

In addition to McCurdy and Grande, the series also stars Cameron Ocasio as their next door neighbor, Dice, Maree Cheatham as Cat's cheerful and caring grandmother with a wild side, Nona, and Zoran Korach as Goomer, a professional mixed martial artist who trains at Punchy's Gym who Dice manages. Special guest stars include Nickelodeon stars from iCarly and Victorious, along with Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel), Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley), and Sophia Grace Brownlee and Rosie McClelland.

Sam & Cat originally premiered in September 2013, and ran for 36 episodes.

'SpongeBob SquarePants' Heads to CBBC In the U.K.

Nick News Brief: CBBC, the kids television brand of British public broadcaster BBC, has acquired the rights to Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants!

At the time of posting, it's currently unknown how many seasons of SpongeBob CBBC has picked up, and whether the show will air on the CBBC channel and/or iPlayer, however, a show page for SpongeBob has appeared on the CBBC website with an episode guide for Season ("Series") 11.

Whilst it's not been too common for BBC/CBBC to acquire Nickelodeon programing in recent years, BBC has a long history of acquiring the rights to Nick shows dating back to the 1990s, including Rugrats, Kenan & Kel and Clarissa Explains It All. Nickelodeon also used to air a Children's BBC on Nickelodeon programming block, featuring preschool series from BBC. Similarly, the BBC's fellow pubcaster, ITV, along with it's children's TV arm, CITV, has also had a long relationship with Nickelodeon, airing shows such as Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and SpongeBob, along with a localised version of Finders Keepers. Most recently, ITV acquired the rights to Knuckles, Paramount+'s series set in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie universe, for its streaming service, ITVX.

An episode of an former Newsround spin-off series from 1983 that features its former iconic presenter John Craven talking about the differences to cable television and analogue television and the expansion of cable in the U.S. thanks to the launch of QUBE in Columbus, Ohio and New York, with talks about bringing it to the U.K. for the big changes to terrestrial television (which BSB/Sky Television would later become a big part of thanks to the success of OTS and Swindon Cable).

One of the main features was the kids' cable network that used to include no commercials, Nickelodeon, which at the time was the one of Pinwheel, Standby: (Lights, Camera, Action!), Livewire and some others like the cult classic You Can't Do That on Television, notable for introducing green gunge (or slime to the American audiences) on the show that later turns out to be an iconic symbol for the network.

The report includes interviews with Geraldine B. Laybourne, the then "Boss Lady"/President of the network, and Fred Newman, host of Livewire, and talks about Nickelodeon planning to introduce advertising.

Hasbro’s eOne Secures UK Broadcast Deal for 'Transformers: EarthSpark'; Series to Rollout Onto CBBC on July 24

Hasbro’s global entertainment studio, Entertainment One (eOne), has signed a new deal with BBC to broadcast season one of the Transformers: EarthSpark series in the UK.

The first ten episodes will launch on 24th July on CBBC, from Monday to Thursday, and will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Following the release of the first batch of episodes, additional new Transformers: EarthSpark content will continue to roll out on the BBC platforms.

Designed for kids and families, Transformers: EarthSpark, co-produced by Paramount+, introduces a new generation of Transformers robots – the first to be born on Earth. Set on present-day Earth, Transformers: EarthSpark centres on two human kids as they forge a connection with Transformers bots like never before and work alongside fan favourites like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

The series is developed for television by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President of Big Kids Animation, Nickelodeon. Production is overseen for Nickelodeon by Mikiel Houser, executive in charge of production, and for eOne by Kari Rosenberg.

Transformers: EarthSpark, made its U.K. debut on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and Paramount+ last November, with new episodes premiering regularly.

“We’re delighted to work with our friends at BBC to have kids and families enjoy the captivating Transformers: EarthSpark series,” said Monica Candiani, EVP Content Sales at eOne. “More and more, we’re seeing the heartfelt excitement kids get when they see characters and storylines onscreen that reflect their own lives and experiences. This is the kind of joy we’ve been seeing with Transformers: EarthSpark, and we hope to bring these important feelings of inclusivity to families in the UK, while of course delivering on the action and fun that Transformers has brought to multi-generational audiences for nearly 40 years.”

Transformers: EarthSpark has been greenlit for a second season. The series’ BBC debut arrives on the heels of the feature film from Paramount, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which has amassed more than $407.7m at the global box office (as of 10th July 2023). Fans and families can expect even more content with the brand’s first-ever CG animated movie and origin story, Transformers One, which debuts in cinemas in September 2024 — the same month that marks the brand’s 40th anniversary next year.

Earlier this year, eOne announced broadcast deals with global broadcast partners to air Transformers: EarthSpark, including Gulli in France, Clan in Spain, Super! In Italy, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, TV3 and TV8 in the Baltics, TV Azteca in Mexico, TV Cultura in Brazil, Viu TV in Hong Kong, Channel 5 in Singapore, RTV in Indonesia and TV9 in Malaysia. Episodes will launch throughout 2023 in all of these markets.
