Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia to Reopen to the Fully Vaccinated on Oct. 7

Family Fun Continues With Sunway Lagoon Reopening 7 October To The Fully Vaccinated

Klang Valley’s multi-park destination reopens tomorrow and entices you to ‘play and stay’ with confidence.

Malaysia - Nothing screams more fun than Sunway Lagoon and its multi-park possibilities of thrills, chills, laughs and a whole lot of excitement.

That’s right folks, starting tomorrow (7 October), Malaysia’s iconic theme park will be reopening its gates to welcome you back to over 90 attractions in their Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Extreme Park, Scream Park and Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon - Best Day Ever!

The long-awaited announcement comes after news that Klang Valley is now in Phase 3 of Malaysia’s National Recovery Plan.

Fully Vaccinated Entry Only

Although 90% of Sunway Lagoon’s attractions are out in the open air, the park will only entertain the fully vaccinated to raise the safety bar of their guests and staff.

Children 17 years old and below do not need to be vaccinated as long as they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult.

Make sure to have your digital vaccination certificate ready and to show your risk status.

There are exemptions however to those with medical conditions or pregnant mothers under 14 weeks or above 33 weeks of gestation.

Proof of their medical condition exempting them from the vaccine will be needed and pregnant mothers will need to provide their pink book, doctor’s appointment card or a medical letter as proof.

‘Play and Stay’ With Confidence

Strict standard operating procedures (SOP) will be in place with face masks mandatory except when dining and while in the water parks and water slides.

In a statement by Calvin Ho, Executive Director of Sunway Theme Parks, to add to their already strict standards, other enhancements have also been made such as:

  • Frequent sanitation at high touchpoints
  • Limiting capacity at certain rides and attractions
  • Public huts that used to cater to large groups have now been converted into private cabanas for families seeking privacy
  • Cap the park’s capacity to 50%

For families who have been anticipating the park’s opening since its closure at the start of the pandemic – good news because Camp Out! at Sunway Lagoon lets you extend your stay at the park till the next day.

If camping isn’t your thing, fret not because there are staycation packages in place too with Sunway Hotels like Sunway Pyramid Hotel and Sunway Clio Hotel.

Check out their Sunway Lagoon’s website and Facebook post here for more information.

Sunway Lagoon Treats Orphans to the Best Day Ever

Malaysia - Over 70 children from Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Damai, Kuang and their caretakers gathered at the entrance of Sunway Lagoon last Sunday for a fun-filled day at the theme park. Sunway Lagoon organised the event.

Although this was not the first time the popular theme park had played host to underprivileged kids, it was the largest the team has ever organised.

The day began with a Sunway Lagoon’s welcome dance at the entrance of the park. At the carousel inside the theme park, the kids were welcomed by Sunway Lagoon’s mascot couple, Captain Quack and Lady Quack in traditional costumes.

The group of roughly 70 kids were made up of 45 girls and 45 boys aged between 3 to 19 years old.

After a meet & greet and photo session, the children were ushered to the Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park for a personalised tour and a close look at more than 150 species of animals that are housed at the park.

A guide takes the children to the white lion enclosure.

During the tour, the children were introduced to the white tigers Samson and Asha, the white lions Zola and Zuri, panthers, white gibbons, the black-eared marmoset and many more. They even got to feed rabbits and guinea pigs, pet chickens and turtles, and learnt to fish using a net.

As noon approached, the children were treated to a Wildlife Multi-Animal Show at the Wildlife Theatre, where they not only got to meet more animals at the show but also learn more about them as well.

Close encounters with a monkey.

Next, the children were led to the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, Asia’s first Nickelodeon-themed land where they got to meet and take photos with SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, who were also dressed in traditional costumes.

Even after all that, the day was far from over. The children were then taken to the Surf Deck for lunch, games, and a surprise birthday celebration.

Excited for a day at the theme park.

Each child was also presented with a Kool Raya gift bag containing educational materials and stationery items by the Sunway Lagoon department heads.

After the festivities, the children were free to enjoy everything Sunway Lagoon has to offer for the rest of the day.

Sunway Lagoon Invites 25 Underprivileged Children To Enjoy Festive Treats And Rides

Malaysia: To celebrate its 25th year, Sunway Lagoon gave the gift of joy and laughter to underprivileged children during the year-end holidays!

In collaboration with Kechara Soup Kitchen, and as part of Sunway Lagoon's “25 Wonder Years” initiative, the theme park invited 25 children aged four to 14 from 11 underprivileged families and their guardians from Kechara Soup Kitchen to experience their “Best Christmas Ever” at the park. The kids had a fun-filled day of thrilling rides, a meet-and-greet session with Santa Claus as well as an educational tour of Sunway Lagoon.

The children started off their day-long outing by witnessing the “changing of guards”. They were then entertained with a welcome dance performed to the park’s 25th anniversary theme song, Experience It. The song was specially arranged and features local artistes Kaka Azraff, Caprice Ariz and Mimi Fly.

Into the park, the young guests were greeted by Santa Claus and his cheeky elves leading to the “Let It Snow – Santa’s Story Time” programme. Santa then presented the children with personalised gifts by Santa according to a wishlist sent to Sunway Lagoon earlier.

Performers welcoming the 25 special visitors to Sunway Lagoon with a special dance.

Sunway Lagoon marketing director Michelle Gregory said the children were very practical in their requests. “They asked for everyday items such as school bags and shoes,” she added.

After the meet-and-greet session, more adventure and surprises enfolded including a guided “wildlife encounter” and learning experience at the Wildlife Park, and a multi-animal showcase at the Wildlife Theatre, where they saw white cockatoos and pelicans performing.

Lunch was then served at one of the event halls next to the water theme park and the children were delighted at the array of Christmas treats, especially the chocolate fondue fountain.

After lunch, with tummies filled, the happy children spent the rest of the day at the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, which included wading in the iconic green slime pool during the infamous Slime Time and taking pictures with Nickelodeon characters, before proceeding to enjoy the rest of the water theme park.

“We were delighted to be able to present them with a gift of joy this Christmas as well as fulfil their wishlist.

“It gave us great satisfaction to see the smiles, laughter and the wonderful moments they had today.

“We hope they will keep these happy memories with them,” said Sunway Lagoon general manager Sean Choo.

Be amazed by the 6m-tall Coral Christmas Tree at the Lakeside, complete with delicate underwater embellishments such as corals, seaweed and sea shells.

The Santa's Workshop at Lagoona Terrace will have craft activities for children to make their very own Christmas Tree out of paper cups. Remember not to leave before you immortalise the SpongeBob’s Christmas Lagoon experience by taking a wacky “scuba” selfie!

For those who wonder what it is like to make giant bubbles like SpongeBob, take a short stroll to the Bubble Jellyfish Field at the Explorer’s Campsite near SpongeBob Splash Adventure and have fun creating different bubble shapes. Then, chase and watch the giant bubbles shimmer in the sun.

Other activities throughout the day include a Christmas-themed Mali Cove Dance Show, Aloha Show, and games such as the Mini Telematch at various spots around the park.

“Since the launch of Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon earlier this year, we want to continually create memorable experiences for our guests by bringing the year-end celebration to the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon," said Sean Choo, General Manager, Sunway Lagoon. "What better way to bring the underwater celebration up to shore and we believe SpongeBob’s Christmas Lagoon promises a good time for the whole family."

“In 2016, we were honoured with a number of awards including Top 5 Best Water Park in Asia by TripAdvisor’s 2016 Travellers’ Choice to HR Asia Best Companies To Work For In Asia 2016 by HR Asia. We take this as motivation to move forward and bring a better experience to all our park-goers.”

To add to the holiday cheer, there will be Christmas Carolling to welcome guests at Sunway Lagoon’s Main Entrance at 10am daily from Monday 19th-Sunday 25th December 2016.

In addition to the launch, guests can be in the running to win a three-day, two-night Sunway Pyramid Hotel Family Suite Getaway and four admission tickets worth RM3,700, by participating in the “Christmas Challenge”.

Guests can refer to the “Christmas Challenge Map” at various locations in the park to navigate their way to complete all the fun activities at designated locations stated on the map.

They will then have to fill in their details and provide a slogan of not more than 20 words and submit their form at a station located at Lagoona Terrace in Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.

The multi-park destination, Sunway Lagoon is open daily from 10am to 6pm with more than 90 rides and attractions spanning across its six theme parks.

Tickets are priced at RM150 for adults above the age of 12 and RM120 for those below 11 years old.

No stone was left unturned in the creation of the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon which boasts 14 immersive attractions, some of which are themed with Nickelodeon's hit properties, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Visitors to Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon can expect an exhilarating experience thanks to interactive play areas, which use the latest in reactive technology in addition to a daily signature slime event, a variety of waterslide rides, retail shops, games and a myriad of food service establishments and more.

True to its name, Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon promises to be an explorer's dream right from the start. Climbing "ancient temple" steps, explorers will pass pineapple columns and intricate carvings leading all the way up to a magnificent SpongeBob SquarePants structure. The adventure continues with geysers, sprouting water cannons, walks along cascading falls, and gooey moments with the signature green slime.

Running deeper into the forest are suspended bridges over rivers, more thrilling wet and wild activities as well as gravity defying rides that twist around trees and hills. Breath-taking views greet visitors who choose to dine and relax by the Lakeside restaurant. They might even have the chance to meet and greet their favourite Nickelodeon characters.
