Nickelodeon Benelux Premieres 'Goldie’s Oldies'
Nickelodeon Benelux (BLX) will premiere Goldie’s Oldies, a brand new live action comedy series on Monday 7th June 2021! The series will air weekdays at 18:15 uur on Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) and at 16:15 uur on Nickelodeon Flanders (Vlaanderen).
Goldie’s Oldies stars: Imogen Faires, Laura Barraclough, Ifan Huw Dafydd, Sid Goldman, Melanie Gutteridge, Gareth Hale (Hale and Pace), Josephine Lloyd-Welcome, and Eileen O'Brien.
Announced in October 2019, Goldie’s Oldies is a brand new live action comedy series, and the first original commission made exclusively for Nickelodeon International’s channels and platforms in more than 170 territories outside the U.S.
Goldie’s Oldies focuses on the life of teenager Goldie, whose life is turned upside down when her family - Sherri and Danny - moves from the U.S. to England to live with their Grandpa Maury and his ‘70 something’ room mates.
Goldie’s Oldies made its world premiere on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland on Monday 15th March 2021 at 5:30pm.
Goldie’s Oldies, a 20 x 22 minute live action situation comedy filmed in studio and on location, is produced by ViacomCBS’s in-house BAFTA-winning production arm, ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) UK, marking the studio’s first move into scripted comedy, first commission for Nickelodeon and a significant step into children’s TV production, following previous work for Channel 5’s multiplatform preschool brand, Milkshake!. The series is distributed by VIS Kids.
Goldie’s Oldies, which has an eleven strong global writing team, begun filming in January 2020 and is set to air across Nickelodeon’s international channels in 2021.
VIS UK produced the series out of Manchester, expanding upon the launch of VIS UK’s first regional office at Salford’s dock10 MediaCity UK earlier this year. Goldie’s Oldies will tap into a number of local filming resources, including local on- and off-screen talent, studios, equipment and locations. Filming took place in 2020, briefly taking a break due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Goldie’s Oldies was created by Evan Thaler Hickey (Top Wing, Go Away , Unicorn!, The Magic School Bus Rides Again) and the head writer is Mark Oswin (Hunter Street, So Awkward). It will be executive produced for VIS UK by Trevor Klein.
Update (20/6) - Nickelodeon Benelux recently started to air Unleashed! The series is locally titled Losgeslagen.

Fremantle's Jayson Dinsmore Reveals How He Created 'Unleashed' for Nickelodeon
Jayson Dinsmore, President of alternative programming and development at Fremantle, recently spoke to Kidscreen about how leading the hit reality series Fear Factor at NBC helped him to develop Unleashed for Nickelodeon!
![]() |
| Unleashed‘s broad appeal saw Fremantle land on Nick. |
When Fear Factor was released in 2001, it was never supposed to be a show the whole family sat down to watch together. It was made specifically for men. But then something else happened.
“We thought that people who like sports would like this show,” Dinsmore, the executive at NBC who was leading the show at the time, told Kidscreen. “Kids showed up first—they just found it so funny. Then parents heard their kids giggling in the other room, so they went in and watched it, too. Before we knew it, the show was a giant hit [with] all demos.”
Fear Factor was at the tail end of an all-family viewing trend that played out at the turn of the millennium. Content swings like a pendulum, and in the ’90s—when families were beginning to broaden their TV set collection—the main goal was bringing everyone together in primetime to watch programs like Full House, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Nanny.
Dinsmore says a big lesson he took away from his Fear Factor days is this: If you can get the kids, you can get the parents.
It’s a tricky balancing act, and one he didn’t fully grasp until recently. Dinsmore pitched Nickelodeon multiple times over the years, but was always turned down.
“We developed shows thinking we knew what their audience would watch. And [in their] feedback, they’d tell us to broaden it out,” he says. “Nickelodeon said, ‘Make sure that parents will enjoy it as well, and don’t make it for little kids, because those kids aspire up.’ They know their audience better than we do.”
Eventually, he was able to create a show that worked, and he is now executive producing Unleashed (pictured, above) for Nickelodeon. The live-action animal competition series includes a water-skiing squirrel, a cheerleading goat and a horse that plays soccer. In each episode, the judges and kid jury crown the night’s “Most Entertaining Pet.”
The only way Fremantle was able to make Unleashed work for multiple audiences was to find something families were collectively obsessed with—their pets.
“I’m sure there’s some research that says every seven minutes you have to have a joke for the adult audience in a kids show, but I don’t have that data,” says Dinsmore.
“Instead, in every performance we ask: What appeals to kids here, what appeals to adults here, and how are we going to make that balance?”

Intellectual Virtues Academy of Long Beach also received a check of $25,000 from comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesia and Nickelodeon.
Intellectual Virtues Academy of Long Beach, a free public middle school in Long Beach, will be featured on Nickelodeon’s show ‘The Substitute’ this coming Thursday, December 10th, at 8:30 pm (Pacific).
During taping of the show, a celebrity was transformed by a team of special effects artists to go undercover as a substitute teacher – the ultimate surprise being the celebrity’s reveal to a group of unsuspecting students. IVA students and staff participated in the Christmas-themed episode with comedian/actor turned faux substitute teacher Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias.
Nickelodeon’s show ‘The Substitute’ was created to celebrate and support educational organizations through exposure to its viewers, and to provide generous monetary donations.
IVA is proud and grateful to announce that through the generosity of Iglesia and Nickelodeon, the school received a check of $25,000, which will be used to help students during a challenging year of distance learning due to COVID-19. Iglesias stated during filming that as a youth who grew up in Section 8 housing in Long Beach, giving back to the local community was important to him.
IVA opened its doors in 2013 to serve middle-school-aged students in the diverse community of Long Beach and surrounding cities. IVA also has a sister high school spanning grades 9-12.
