Viacom International Studios (VIS) has notched up three new distribution deals for It’s Pony, Nickelodeon International’s U.K.-originated series created by British animation veteran Ant Blades.
Storyboarded, designed and animated in the U.K. by Blue Zoo Productions, the first season of the 20×30-minute series has been acquired by three international free-to-air networks. The show will launch in fall 2020 on YLE2 (Finland), Televisa’s Canal 5 (Mexico) and Teleamazonas (Ecuador). The series debuted on Nickelodeon USA on Saturday, January 18, 2020, and is now currently rolling out onto Nickelodeon channels globally.
VIS has also added the distribution rights for new series to its children’s slate. These include Greenhouse Academy, Spell Keepers, Craft Party Israel and The Hood, produced by Israeli-based Nutz Productions; Craft Party UK, produced by KI UK, and Forever, produced by Israeli-based Tedy Productions; as well as IB the Dog, a Danish preschool animation produced by Minicosmos, and Christmas-themed game-show Top Elf, produced for Nickelodeon by Ugly Brother Studios and Main Event Media, which was recently greenlit for season two.
Greenhouse Academy is Netflix's U.S./global remake of Nickelodeon Israel's hit The Greenhouse, whilst Spell Keepers, Craft Party Israel, The Hood and Forever have also aired on Nickelodeon channels in Israel.
The cast of The Greenhouse recently returned to make a coronavirus-themed miniseries.
Lauren Marriott, Vice President (VP) of international content sales at VIS, said: “All these titles bring different dimensions to our already rich kids’ catalog. With children of all ages at home and needing additional content to consume right now, we’re proud to be able to offer something new and entertaining for every age group.”

From TVPRODUCCIÓN:

Belgium's Medialaan Acquires Rights to Nickelodeon Israel's 'The Greenhouse', 'Spell Keepers' and 'Bed & Biscuit'
KESHET INTERNATIONAL KIDS’ DIVISION SIGNS 188 HOUR DEAL WITH MEDIALAAN
Belgium broadcaster picks up Nutz Productions’ THE GREENHOUSE, SPELL KEEPERS and BED & BISCUIT
18 December 2018 – The Kids’ division of leading global producer and distributor Keshet International (KI) has signed another high-volume licensing deal for three of live-action tweens’ and teens’ finished series totally 188 hours of content.
KI has licensed Belgium broadcaster Medialaan all three seasons of the Israeli ratings record-breaking daily-drama THE GREENHOUSE (175×22’), three seasons of the live action series SPELL KEEPERS (150×22’) and three seasons of the sitcom BED & BISCUIT (totaling 51×22’). All of these Hebrew language shows originally premiered on Nickelodeon Israel and Teen Nick exclusively on Yes TV and are produced by Nutz Productions, a subsidiary of the multi-channel media group Ananey Communications. Medialaan will debut all three shows on its popular kids channel VTM KIDS on Saturday 22nd December 2018.
This is the first time Medialaan has picked up any Hebrew-language live action kids’ series, and it follows hot on the heels of KI’s recent agreements with HBO for all three series of both THE GREENHOUSE (175×22’) and SPELL KEEPERS (150×22’), and SIC for three series of BED & BISCUIT (totaling 51×22’) and the first series of SPELL KEEPERS (50×22’).
These three high-volume deals follow KI’s recent strategic move into the kids’ market, first launching a dedicated kids’ division headed by new hire Nicola Andrews, and then establishing an on-going content partnership with Ananey Communications Group – Israel’s leading kids’ content provider – to bring teens’, tweens’ and kids’ programming to a wider global audience.
Nicola Andrews, KI’s Senior Sales and Commercial Director, Kids says, “It is exciting to see there is a growing appetite for high-quality foreign language finished series internationally, particularly amongst broadcasters looking for high-volume deals.”
Medialaan’s Head of Kids, Serge Van Eyck says, “As a leading TV broadcaster in Belgium we are delighted to work together with Keshet International and are convinced that these high-quality and high-volume live action series will appeal to a wide audience. We believe that the stories told in these series are universal and will be warmly appreciated by our Belgian kids.”
Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO Ananey Communications Group says, “We are delighted to witness, again and again, the way in which kids and teens around the world embrace our original award winning productions and fall in love with them, just as kids and teens in Israel did.”
Created by Giora Chamizer, THE GREENHOUSE (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 175×22’) centers on a brother and sister who, after losing their mother in a spaceship crash, arrive at an elite boarding school for gifted future leaders: The Greenhouse. They join two competing houses within the school but, only by joining forces can they save the country from a disaster. The Greenhouse has also aired (dubbed in English) on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, and has also been adapted for an English international version by Netflix. Titled Greenhouse Academy, the English international version has been renewed for two additional seasons (encompassing season two and three).
Based on original idea by Sivan Shiknagy and Einat Shahak and created by Michal Cooper-Keren, SPELL KEEPERS (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 150×22’) is an exciting, mysterious and fantastical daily-drama series focusing on two strong and determined female heroines – Kirki and Laila. The Spell Keepers are a secret group of good witches called Kadabras, whose role is to protect humanity from supernatural creatures who threaten to harm them. Together, they are the strongest force in the supernatural world. Spell Keepers also airs on Nickelodeon Poland.
Created by Hagit Bilia and Lior Kfir, BED & BISCUIT (S1, S2 and S3, totaling 51×22’) is a sitcom for younger kids, which takes place in a family-run boarding kennel for dogs in a small village in Israel. Moti is a mediocre lawyer who has had enough of the big city and wants to live a simpler life and spend more time with his only daughter Ori. Together, the energetic father and smart and funny daughter make the move into the country to run their family business – a dog kennel.

About Ananey Communications Group
Founded by Udi Miron in 1996, Ananey Communications is the leading multi-channel TV firm in Israel. With 11 original lifestyle TV channels and exclusive representation of the Viacom brands in Israel (including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Teen-Nick & Nick Junior), Ananey channels reach a total of 76% of all Israeli households. Also, from HLN:

Keshet International Signs Two High-Volume Kids' Deals for Titles Within Ananey Partnership
Official Keshet International Press Release:
7 August 2018 – Global content and media producer and distributor Keshet International (KI) has signed two separate deals for a raft of tweens’ and teens’ finished content following its recent distribution partnership with Ananey Communications Group.
KI has licensed HBO the SVOD rights to all three seasons of the Israeli ratings record-breaking daily-drama THE GREENHOUSE (175×22’; החממה) alongside three seasons of the live action series SPELL KEEPERS (150×22’; כדברא) for its subscription services in 13 countries across Central Europe. Meanwhile KI has also sold Portugal’s SIC three series of the sitcom BED & BISCUIT (totalling 51×22’; בית הכלבים) and the first series of SPELL KEEPERS (50×22’) in a separate deal that will see the Impresa-owned channel dub, rather than subtitle, both series for its local audiences. All three of these Hebrew language series originally premiered on Nickelodeon Israel and Teen Nick exclusively on Yes TV and are produced by Nutz Productions, a subsidiary of the multi-channel group Ananey Communications.
These two high-volume deals follow KI’s recent strategic move into the kids’ market, first launching a dedicated kids’ division headed by new hire Nicola Andrews, and then establishing an on-going content partnership with Ananey Communications Group – Israel’s leading kids’ content provider – to bring teens’, tweens’ and kids’ programming to a wider global audience.
Nicole Correia, SIC’s Acquisitions Manager says, “We are very happy to partner with Keshet International and we believe both SPELLKEEPERS and BED & BISCUIT are a perfect fit for our audience.”
Nicola Andrews, KI’s Senior Sales and Commercial Director, Kids says, “Our slate of live action series from Ananey’s Nutz Productions is exceptional. Not only do these series look great, and feature gripping storylines, they’re also internationally appealing – as these two high-profile deals show.”
Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO of Ananey Communications, says, “We are very excited and honoured. Our content offers a unique and entertaining viewing experience, perfected for millennials and we are thrilled that HBO and SIC have recognized this. We trust that the vast spread and prestige these two networks bring with them will help KI deliver our content to new audiences around the world and we are certain they will fall in love with them as well.”
Created by Michal Cooper-Keren and based on original idea by Sivan Shiknagy and Einat Shahak, SPELL KEEPERS (S1, S2 and S3, totalling 150×22’) is an exciting, mysterious and fantastical daily-drama series focussing on two strong and determined female heroines – Kirki and Laila. The Spell Keepers are a secret group of good witches called Kadabras, whose role is to protect humanity from supernatural creatures who threaten to harm them. Together, they are the strongest force in the supernatural world. They control the four elements of nature: wind, earth, fire and water – and they can perform magical feats, such as create storms or floods.
Created by Giora Chamizer, THE GREENHOUSE (S1, S2 and S3, totalling 175×22’) centres on a brother and sister who, after losing their mother in a spaceship crash, arrive at an elite boarding school for gifted future leaders: The Greenhouse. They join two competing houses within the school. Soon, mysterious developments draw the rival houses into a secret investigation where they expose a destructive plot. Only by joining forces can they save the country from a disaster. Having broken ratings records on its debut in Israel, this live action series has also been adapted into an English international version entitled GREENHOUSE ACADEMY by Ananey’s Nutz Productions for the streaming giant Netflix.
Created by Hagit Bilia and Lior Kfir, BED & BISCUIT (S1, S2 and S3, totalling 51×22’) is a sitcom for younger kids, which takes place in a family-run boarding kennel for dogs in a small village in Israel. Moti is a mediocre lawyer who has had enough of the big city and wants to live a simpler life and spend more time with his only daughter Ori. Together, the energetic father and smart and funny daughter make the move into the country to run their family business – a dog kennel.
Other live action series that are part of KI’s slate of finished kids’ content produced by Ananey’s Nutz Productions include CRAFT PARTY (22 x 10’), a colourful and inspiring series presented by two nine year old girls that celebrates the art of crafting and DIY for younger children; and THE HOOD (S1, S2 and S3, totalling 150×22’), a daily drama that skilfully combines edgy class struggles with suspenseful action and big doses of fun, as widower Ben’s kids prank the community’s snobbish teens with hilarious results, all while searching for a mystical treasure that could change their lives forever.

Nickelodeon Israel Mines Seam of Successful Locally Produced Shows to Become Highest Rated Kids TV Channel in Israel
Nickelodeon is mining a seam of successful locally originated shows via its Israeli partnership with Ananey. C21 Media's Gün Akyuz reports.
Viacom’s Nickelodeon brand currently enjoys an enviable position in the Israeli market. Despite hefty competition, its children’s channel portfolio now attracts a 50%-plus share of all kids’ viewing.
With eight different kids’ networks vying for just one million Israeli youngsters, this spring the Nickelodeon portfolio claimed up to a 54% share of 3-13s, says Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO of Ananey Communications, one of Israel’s largest multichannel media groups.
Ananey is a long-standing Viacom channel partner in Israel, managing and programming Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central brands locally. Their ties were bolstered last year when the US media group acquired an undisclosed minority stake in Ananey.
The channel partnership is supported by Ananey’s portfolio, spanning in-house production companies such as Nutz Productions, which specialises in kids, youth and entertainment; post-production facilities Post Office; and digital services and apps development arm Mars Games.
Separate to its Viacom partnership, Ananey also operates its own suite of in-house lifestyle channels, Food, Health, Good Life, Travel and male-skewing Ego and Ego Total, for which it produces around 200 hours of local content annually. Its current focus is on increasing digital crossover opportunities around content and talent with platforms such as Facebook.
In all, Ananey supplies 14 channels to Israel’s cable operator Hot, satellite platform Yes and OTT suppliers Cellcom and Partner. It also pitches to third parties as an independent producer across lifestyle, documentaries, kids and entertainment, including documentaries with Kan, and is developing a comedy drama for Yes. “We work with them all,” observes Atlas-Katz.
Ananey manages and programmes three Viacom channels under the Nickelodeon banner: pre-school brand Nick Jr. (ניק ג'וניור), targeting kids up to the ages of six or seven; Nickelodeon for older kids up to 10; and the more recently launched Nick Teen (TeenNick), targeting 9-13s.
Nickelodeon Israel’s (ניקלודיאון) already extensive digital presence has been extended to VoD via partnerships with local OTT suppliers Cellcom and Partner. Last year Ananey also struck a content deal with Keshet International (KI) to bring its scripted kids and teen shows to the global market.
In addition to its production and channel-related activities, the Israeli group manages local merchandising for Nickelodeon properties like PAW Patrol (מפרץ ההרפתקאות), and has expanded into apps and second screens, “working 360º to make the brands work,” says Atlas-Katz. Most recently, Nickelodeon Israel launched a local version of Nickelodeon's award-winning Nick Play app.
Atlas-Katz claims Ananey and Nickelodeon Israel are investing significantly in content. “No one knows what the future will be,” says the exec, “but it will involve strong content.”
Moreover, with the shift in viewing habits now underway thanks to services like YouTube and Netflix, “the competition is not only ratings but producing the best shows on all platforms,” says Atlas-Katz. “We’re now fighting on all fronts.”
Current schedule, children’s acquisitions, original production, formats
Up to 80% of Nickelodeon Israel’s programming is sourced from the group’s global inventory. “We have good Viacom content such as Paw Patrol,” says Atlas-Katz, “but Viacom also give us full programming freedom and we can programme as we see fit for the local market.”
This freedom and Ananey’s role in attracting younger Israeli audiences have helped spawn a wide range of local production opportunities. While familiar international shows like Paw Patrol, Nella the Princess Knight (נלה הנסיכה האבירה) and The Loud House (הרעשנים) perform well thanks to being dubbed into Hebrew, Atlas-Katz says Nickelodeon Israel’s local productions are the portfolio’s most successful drivers.
One of them is Nick Jr.’s in-house show Craft Party (מסיבת יצירה), fronted by two girls who show young viewers how to make things. Atlas-Katz says the duo have become very popular. Made by Nutz Productions, a second season launched this spring and a third is now in the works.
Ananey is keen to give its shows a digital presence; Craft Party, for instance, has a VoD and YouTube presence. “We do a lot of content on YouTube to complement our shows,” explains Atlas-Katz, advocating a “don’t fight it, work with it” approach to digital. “We wanted kids to engage more with the show and our main aim was to drive kids from YouTube to the channel, and we’re doing it with content clips.”
A second local production hit is scripted preschool series Rescue Team (צוות הצלה), involving a team of six- and seven-year-olds who solve problems for adults. Atlas-Katz says the aim of the show is to place small children at the fore, to make them feel empowered. Also a Nutz production, Rescue Team returned recently for a second season.
Atlas-Katz says Ananey has been building up its kids-fronted programming strategy. Although it brings a number of challenges – such as the fact children can only work for limited hours and are subject to other welfare and safeguarding considerations, limiting production and pushing up costs – kids really relate to the shows, she says.
A few of Ananey’s local ideas for its Nick Jr. brands have also gone international, says Atlas-Katz, noting claymation shortform filler series How to Clay, which was picked up by Nick Jr. internationally to accompany global hit Paw Patrol.
On Nickelodeon, Ananey’s Nutz Productions is a key provider of local daily drama for kids, which has broken through internationally. Teen drama Spell Keepers (כדברא) has been picked up by Nickelodeon Poland and SIC Portugal, while The Hood (שכונה) recently launched on RTP in Portugal. The genre has also attracted new platforms like Netflix, with Nutz’s The Greenhouse (החממה) having been adapted by the company for Netflix as English-language series Greenhouse Academy.
Atlas-Katz claims Nickelodeon Israel and Ananey are the experts when it comes to local daily drama for kids, promoting the same positive values of equality and girl empowerment seen in Nickelodeon Global’s animated shows such as Dora the Explorer (מגלים עם דורה), Nella the Princess Knight and The Loud House.
Nickelodeon Israel schedules three dramas each weekday with a weekend binge-viewing marathon catch-up. Moreover, shows like The Greenhouse, which aired for a third season this spring at 15.00 on Nickelodeon, are also available almost simultaneously on VoD.
“In Israel, it’s almost like a live event, with kids all watching at the same time,” says Atlas-Katz. “It doesn’t matter how, the fact is that kids are all coming together. We don’t feel that it takes away from the ratings at all but that brands are getting stronger because of it.”
Ananey and Nickelodeon’s commitment to local daily drama for kids continues. Already in the works is The Covurts (40×22’), Nickelodeon International’s first Israeli coproduction, a partnership with Nutz Productions and HOT. Led by head writer Michal Cooper Keren (Spell Keepers), the series will be shot in Israel and is due to launch internationally in 2019.
Another area of local production focus for Nickelodeon Israel is sitcoms, entertainment and gameshows. “We’re interested in all kinds of gameshows,” says Atlas-Katz. “We need to be unique and different.”
These include kids’ stand-up show The Laugh Basement (הצחוקייה; 49×15’), also from Nutz. The show, which has run for five seasons, puts well-known comedians in front of an audience made up entirely of children. “No one had done this genre for kids before,” Atlas-Katz says. The format is popular locally and has also run as a live event.
Another is Champions (צ'מפיונסניק), which sees different school classes compete against each other. Participants, chosen via an app, join teams made up of pairs of girls and boys taking football penalty shots. This year’s winning team got to attend the Fifa World Cup finals. The show is among Nickelodeon Israel’s top five and has also generated over two million views on YouTube.
On the local sitcom front there’s Bed & Biscuit (בית הכלבים; 32×22’), also from Nutz Productions. The series, about a dogs’ day-care service, has now notched up three seasons and is also one of the kids and teen titles included in Ananey’s distribution deal with KI.
An entertainment newcomer to the line-up is prank show Gotcha (6×30’), made for Nickelodeon Israel by Nutz together with Bunim/Murray Productions and actor Billy Crystal’s Jennilind Productions. Banijay Rights is selling the show internationally.
Atlas-Katz says Ananey is now developing more new shows that put kids centre-stage, including more seasons of Craft Party and Rescue Team. “We’re also looking to do some unique stuff with social media,” adds the exec. “We’re doing all kinds of experiments. We’re a small territory so we can do that.”

Nickelodeon Poland Acquires Rights To Nick Israel's Supernatural Drama "Spell Keepers"
Nickelodeon Poland (Polska) has picked up the broadcast rights to Nutz Productions' popular Israeli supernatural drama series Spell Keepers!
Scheduled to air in its original-language version in 2018, the 50 x 22-minute daily series - one of four new live-action series for tweens from Israeli partners Keshet International and Ananey Communications Group - follows determined heroines Kirki and Layla, who have set out to perform their critical roles in the world. As they do their best to save humanity from evil forces, they must choose between finding their own personal happiness and fulfilling their destinies, all while facing an inevitable collision between good and evil.
Ananey's production arm is the leading producer of original content for Viacom brands in Israel, and Nutz has seen the series become a ratings success for Nickelodeon Israel since national satellite-TV provider yes commissioned season one last year. Spell Keepers debuted on Nickelodeon Israel in February 2017.
Spell Keepers, titled כדברא in Hebrew, is created by screenwriter Michal Cooper-Keren alongside co-creators Sivan Shiknagy and Einat Shahak. Cooper-Keren also created Disney Channel Israel original teen drama North Star (כוכב הצפון), which was produced by Herzliya Studios. The series was remade by Zodiak Kids Studios in the U.K. as The Lodge for Disney Channel UK.
In related remake news, Nutz was recently commissioned by Netflix to produce Greenhouse Academy, an original live-action tween drama based on Nutz' hit The Greenhouse, an original live-action daily-drama series that was broadcast for four seasons on Nickelodeon Israel exclusively for yes DBS. The remake marks the first time an original Israeli series has been acquired by the global SVOD giant.
Content for tweens will also be getting more eyeballs in Israel following the launch of TeenNick by yes DBS in March 2017. To celebrate the launch, TeenNick Israel aired a special TV reunion of the cast from The Greenhouse.
