Todd Brian, a longtime production and development executive known for his work on a wide array of children’s programming — including Nickelodeon's Star Falls and Ride as well as HBO Max’s Daytime Emmy-nominated animated series Esme & Roy — died December 28 in Toronto on “after a very brief but brave battle with ALS,” according to his family. He was 59.

The veteran of the Canadian entertainment industry, most recently serving as Director of Development, Animation, at WildBrain, is remembered by his family as “a very charismatic soul who would light up a room with his energy and humour.”
“Todd was not just my colleague but one of my dearest friends, we shared so much through our 17-year friendship,” remarked WildBrain’s Chief Content Officer, Stephanie Betts. “He made everyone he met feel appreciated and seen. I’ll miss seeing his bright smile and hearing his playful laugh every day.”
Born on December 3, 1963, Brian was a graduate of institutions including Ryerson University and the Canadian Film Centre who worked over the course of his career in both the animation and live-action spaces, holding roles before WildBrain as a production executive at Corus Kids and as a development executive at marblemedia. He also served as a senior writer for CBC Television, a story editor and writer for eOne TV, and a development coordinator for Barna-Alper Productions.
In addition to Esme & Roy, Brian’s production exec credits include the live-action Nickelodeon series Star Falls and Ride, and multiple TV movies based on L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel Anne of Green Gables for PBS, among others.
The multihyphenate’s credits as a writer included such series as Caillou, Captain Flamingo, Jimmy Two-Shoes, Turbo Dogs and My Big Big Friend, to name a few.
Brian is survived by his mother Judy Jacobs and her husband Peter; his brother, Troy Brian; sister-in-law Susan; their children Chelsea, Megan and Brock; his sister, Tara Brian, and her son Gavin. The family requests that donations be sent to the ALS Society of Canada in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service will take place in Windsor, Ontario in February, but details were not announced.

Update (27/9) - Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Italia has announced that Viacom Pubblicità & Brand Solutions will be closing the 2018 (January 2017-September 2018) with excellent results, featuring a 36% growth over the previous year! In particular, the Kids & Family arm of VIMN Italia recorded very positive ratings. Comprised of Super! and Pop on FTA and the Nickelodeon Network on Sky Italia, grew overall by +13% (in revenues). In terms of audience, the kids area an had an overall share of 11% (it should be noted, however, that Pop was only recorded for 5 months out of the 12) and an increase of +23% in share.

Телеканал Nickelodeon Россия анонсировал скорую премьеру пятого сезона популярного мультсериала «Щенячий патруль».
Телезрители Nickelodeon Россия увидят первые эпизоды пятого сезона «Щенячьего патруля» уже в сентябре. Детей и их родителей ожидают новые приключения озорного мальчика Райдера и храбрых щенят – Гончика, Маршала, Скай, Крепыша, Рокки, Эверест и Зумы. Герои мультсериала будут помогать тем, кто попал в непростую ситуацию, а также противостоять котятам-хулиганам из команды «КОТастрофа» под руководством мэра города Фогги-Боттом Хамдингера. В новом сезоне отряд из смелых и решительных щенков, возглавляемый Райдером, найдет потерявшегося страусенка, вернет пропавшую с места раскопок реликвию, а также выручит капитана Палтуса и его двоюродного брата, застрявших в батисфере на дне океана.
Первыми серии анимационного хита смогут увидеть посетители Family Fest, который пройдет в московском парке «Сокольники» 8 сентября. Телеканал Nickelodeon и крупнейший российский оператор цифрового телевидения Триколор организуют специальную зону для любителей мультсериала «Щенячий патруль», где ребята смогут сделать аквагрим и переводные татуировки, получить раскраски, сыграть в большую дженгу и, конечно, сфотографироваться с популярными героями в фотозоне.

NICKELODEON РОССИЯ ПРЕДСТАВИТ 130 ЧАСОВ ПРЕМЬЕРНОГО КОНТЕНТА В НОВОМ СЕЗОНЕ
В сентябре Nickelodeon Россия покажет главную премьеру года: анимационное шоу «Эволюция Черепашек-ниндзя». В российской версии мультсериала героев озвучили популярные блогеры и звезды: Антон Комолов (Донателло), Евгений Чебатков (Лео), Gary (Микеланджело), ST (Раф) и Мари Сенн (Эйприл О’Нил). Шоу расскажет знакомую многим поколениям детей историю совершенно по-новому: в 2D-графике и с изменившимися персонажами и сюжетом. Действие переносится в мистический мир, где Черепашки-ниндзя получают сверхспособности и используют их для защиты Нью-Йорка от самых невероятных существ. Первая серия мультсерила «Эволюция Черепашек-ниндзя» выйдет в эфир Nickelodeon Россия 23 сентября в 11:00 по московскому времени.
Новые эпизоды будут ждать поклонников сериала «Я — Фрэнки». Его главная героиня — девочка-робот по имени Фрэнки — работает как новейший компьютер с мощной памятью, жестким диском и доступом в интернет. Фрэнки ходит в школу, как обыкновенная девочка, и никто, кроме членов ее семьи, не знает об этом секрете. Удастся ли Фрэнки найти настоящих друзей и стать своей в мире людей? В новом сезоне мальчики и девочки увидят новые серии мультсериалов «Мистиконы» и «Мой шумный дом». В сентябре в эфир телеканала выйдет мультсериал «Эволюция Черепашек-ниндзя». В октябре вернется сериал «Я-Фрэнки». Одной из самых ярких премьер сезона станет комедийный сериал с мистическим сюжетом «Бюро магических дел». По словам Марии Косаревой, этой осенью «Nickelodeon Россия» первым покажет пятый сезон мультсериала «Щенячий патруль» и новые серии «Санни Дэй». Также в эфир выйдут премьерные эпизоды анимационных шоу «Мистиконы» и «Мой шумный дом». Наконец, в ноябре «Nickelodeon Россия» отпразднует свой день рождения. В новом контенте Nickelodeon будет сделан особый акцент на теме технологий и гаджетов. По словам Марии Косаревой, это связано с тем, что опросы Viacom показывают: современные мальчики и девочки на «ты» с технологиями и увлекаются гаджетами: у 46% ребят в России есть собственный планшет, у 54% — собственный смартфон, а 67% пользуются несколькими устройствами одновременно (по данным Viacom International Media Networks, исследование «Дети мира», 2018 г.). Чтобы как можно больше зрителей узнали о премьерах канала, Nickelodeon проведет ряд активностей с крупнейшими операторами цифрового телевидения и запустит масштабную кампанию в поддержку премьеры анимационного сериала «Эволюция Черепашек-ниндзя». Мария Косарева напомнила, что Nickelodeon Россия является лидером по доле просмотров аудиторией 4—17 лет, а также входит в первую пятерку среди всех детских телеканалов в России (по данным Mediascope). «Отличные показатели достигаются за счет нашей экспертизы — благодаря исследованиям, которые проводит медиаходлинг Viacom International Media Networks, мы знаем предпочтения детей и можем предложить им подходящий контент высокого качества», — объяснила она.

Перечисляя отличия нового телесезона, Алексей Виноградов отметил, что после Олимпиады и особенно после чемпионата мира по футболу, который прошел в России, интерес российских зрителей к спорту и спортивным трансляциям стал выше. «Поэтому мы рассчитываем на рост аудитории Eurosport, — говорит он. — Кроме того, у нас есть планы по интеграции новых контентных форматов и технологических решений. Мы также следим за событиями на спортивных каналах России, США и Европы и выстраиваем свою программную политику в соответствии с тенденциями индустрии».
Мария Косарева сообщила, что сегодня большой популярностью среди юных зрителей пользуется контент с искрометным юмором и фантазийным сюжетом. Именно поэтому в новом сезоне на «Nickelodeon Россия» будет много магических преображений и остроумных шуток. Например, в мультсериале «Эволюция Черепашек-ниндзя» действие переносится в мистический мир, где главные герои получают сверхспособности.
