REUNITED! Drake Bell on Touring, Fatherhood & Life After Nickelodeon | Josh Peck

REUNITED! Drake Bell on Touring, Fatherhood & Life After Nickelodeon | Josh Peck

Oh boy, do we have a treat for you this week. Drake Bell is back on the show and immediately thrown into the madness: Josh’s flu-voice, Ben’s missing a*s (as confirmed by Zepbound), and a deeply emotional discussion about… toddler pooping anxiety. We catch up on Drake’s wild year - 91 shows, 150 flights, Latin America tours, dad life in Florida, Minions Land obsessions - and Drake tells the full story of the absolutely deranged reality show that made him dive off a 33-foot platform and burst his eardrum. We also get into parenting philosophies, routines, gambling responsibly (we think), dermatology fears, how becoming fathers changed everything, and whether the trio has officially entered their “unc” era. It’s nostalgic, hilarious, heartfelt, and exactly the kind of episode fans loved the last time Drake joined the show.

Drake Bell and Josh Peck, who starred together in hit Nickelodeon comedy series Drake & Josh, are reuniting for the first time since the documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV premiered in spring 2024 on Investigation Discovery/Max to talk about their time on the show, their lives as child stardom and the bombshells the documentary revealed.

In a preview of the March 24 episode of Josh's Good Guys podcast shared by People, which he hosts alongside Ben Soffer, Josh and Bell opened up about their time working together on Drake & Josh and what it was like to be Nickelodeon child stars.

Drake and Josh and Ben (Part 1) | Josh Peck

Today, we’re sitting down with Drake Bell for the first time in nearly 20 years to have the conversation we never had. In Part 1, we revisit our time filming Drake & Josh, reflect on the laughs, the magic, and the darker moments that were never spoken aloud.

We talk about what it was like growing up on set, the complicated truth of our friendship, and how trauma, misunderstanding, and silence shaped the years that followed. Drake opens up about what he endured behind the scenes and how that experience impacted our relationship, the show, and his life.

We’re proud to share this episode with you. And stay tuned for Part 2.

Soffer, 32, and producer Olivia Meade spoke on the podcast about the “completely eye-opening” experience of watching Quiet on Set. Soffer said it “never at all clicked” that Josh and Bell, both 38, were also kids.

“You're not an adult, but you're being treated like an adult and you're with adults,” Soffer said. Meade added, “I can’t imagine losing those formative years, or giving such responsibility and pressure at that age when you are just beginning to figure out bits and pieces of who you are and how you interact with other people.”

Josh said it’s complicated because the show is beloved by fans who grew up watching it but was hard for him to go through. He explained, “You know what the show means to everyone. You know that the moments that were great were great, and we were incredibly lucky to get to do this thing that we loved.”

“But there's also the truth of everything you went through and everything that was an experience for a kid that was unacceptable in so many ways and you’ve got to wrestle with this,” he said. “I remember people would ask me about the show, and I would say, ‘Well, I lost a hundred pounds and had to get sober at 21. Did I seem happy?’ Like, it’s a bit of a sign."

Drake & Josh premiered in 2004 and ran for four seasons on Nickelodeon. Bell and Josh played stepbrothers (who shared the same first names as the actors playing them), with Miranda Cosgrove as Drake’s younger sister. Before the show, Josh and Bell also starred together on the network's The Amanda Show alongside Amanda Bynes.

In Quiet on Set, Bell talked about being sexually assaulted by Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck (no relation to Josh) when he was 15. Brian pleaded no contest to a charge of oral copulation with a minor under 16 and performing a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old in connection with the case. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and was mandated to register as a sex offender. At the time, Bell was not revealed as his victim.

Speaking to People on March 17, Bell revealed that the documentary airing was “a really nice weight lifted.”

“It's a roller coaster of emotions,” he said. “I don't want to sugarcoat it and make the message, ‘Hey, all you got to do is just tell somebody and get your story out and when you wake up the next day, it's going to be gone and everything's going to be fine and you're going to walk through life without any pain or sorrow or sadness!’ It's always going to be there, but it's a lot nicer getting support.”

The new episode of Good Guys premieres Monday, March 24. The second half of Bell’s interview will appear in the Thursday, March 27, episode.

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, please contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or go to rainn.org.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, please contact the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-662-HELP.

Drake and Josh and Ben (Part 2) | Josh Peck

In Part 2 of our sit-down with Drake Bell, we pick up right where we left off—unpacking everything that came after the show ended. From personal regrets to private reconciliations, we reflect on the years apart, the moments that shaped us, and how we finally found our way back to friendship.

We talk openly about what drove us apart and what’s bringing us back together. Drake shares unbelievable stories—playing a private concert in Switzerland for eight kids, becoming a children’s menu icon in Mexico, and his surreal trip to Brunei with Pamela Anderson. But he also opens up about the real stuff: going to rehab, becoming a father, learning to survive—and then choosing to live fully.

We revisit our shared past with fresh perspective and a whole lot more grace. It’s funny, it’s heartbreaking, it’s hopeful—and it’s the closure we didn’t know we needed.

We love this episode. We love Drake. And we hope you feel the love too.

Kenan Thompson Says ‘My Heart Goes Out’ to Fellow Nickelodeon Stars Featured in ‘Quiet on Set’ Documentary: ‘They’ve Gone Through Terrible Things’

Kenan Thompson has opened up about his time as a child star at Nickelodeon and the new perspective he has gained on it following the release of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, a new documentary series that features allegations of abuse against crew members at the network.

Thompson’s comments came Wednesday, March 27 during an interview on the daytime talk show Tamron Hall, touching on his new production banner AFA, the success of Good Burger 2, his record-breaking tenure on Saturday Night Live and his new memoir When I Was Your Age, and his support for Amanda Bynes.

Thompson got started as a child performer, though, serving as an original cast member of the teenage-cast sketch show All That and starring alongside his peer Kel Mitchell in the sitcom Kenan & Kel and the feature film Good Burger, all of which were produced by Nickelodeon. During the interview with Hall, Thompson confirmed that he has not watched Quiet on Set, which features allegations of abuse against All That producer and Good Burger writer Dan Schneider, who produced and created several Nickelodeon sitcoms.

“It’s a tough subject. It’s tough for me because I can’t really speak on things that I never witnessed. All these things happened after I left, basically. Dan [Schneider] wasn’t really on Kenan & Kel like that. He got a ‘Created by’ credit, but it was a different showrunner,” Thompson shared. “All that negativity kind of started happening outside of our tenure [at Nickelodeon]. I wasn’t really aware of a lot of it, but my heart goes out to anyone that’s been victimized, or their families.”

“It’s a good thing that the doc is out and it’s putting things on display that need to be, stories that need to be told for accountability’s sake. But it’s definitely tough to watch because I have fond memories of that place,” Thompson continued. “I have fond memories of my co-stars. To hear that they’ve gone through terrible things like that, it’s really tough.”

When Hall continued by saying that the talk show had reached out to Nickelodeon and that the network stated it was conducting investigations into all allegations, Thompson interrupted: “Well, investigate more. It’s supposed to be a safe space. It’s supposed to be a safe place for kids. So to hear all that is like, ‘How dare you.'”

Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set details the alleged on-set treatment of child actors, primarily at Nickelodeon shows in the ’90s and early ’00s. The series recently announced a fifth episode, which will feature interviews with The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh star Drake Bell, All That cast members Giovonnie Samuels and Bryan Hearne, Hearne’s mother, Tracey Brown, as well as new interviewee, All That cast member Shane Lyons “to discuss where the industry can go from here.” Titled “Breaking the Silence”, the new episode will air Sunday, April 7 at 8/7c on Investigation Discovery (and stream on Max).

'Quiet on Set' Follow-Up to Feature Interviews With Drake Bell and ‘New Voices’

Nickelodeon exposé Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV isn’t over just yet.

Investigation Discovery has ordered a fifth episode of the docuseries, titled “Breaking the Silence.” It will air Sunday, April 7 at 8/7c on Investigation Discovery (and stream on Max).

According to ID, Episode 5 “will delve deeper into the toxic and dangerous culture behind some of the most iconic children’s television shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s, including allegations of abuse, sexism and racism,” and build off “the revelations explored in the first four episodes.”

Award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien will lead a conversation featuring previous participants Drake Bell (The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh), former All That cast members Giovonnie Samuels and Bryan Hearne, and Hearne’s mother, Tracey Brown. Additionally, “new voices” will appear — including fellow former All That cast member Shane Lyons — “to discuss where the industry can go from here.”

Bell, now 37, appeared in Episode 3 of Quiet on Set and revealed himself to be the minor at the center of Brian Peck’s 2004 conviction. Peck, who served as a dialogue coach at Nickelodeon and bears no relation to Josh Peck, appeared on episodes of All That and The Amanda Show, and was later convicted of a lewd act against a child and oral copulation of a person under 16.

Bell’s Amanda Show and Drake & Josh co-stars Josh Peck and Nancy Sullivan both released statements following the release of Quiet on Set. “I reached out to Drake privately, but want to give my support for the survivors who were brave enough to share their stories of emotional and physical abuse on Nickelodeon sets with the world,” Peck said on March 21. “Children should be protected. Reliving this publicly is incredibly difficult, but I hope it can bring healing for the victims and their families as well as necessary change to our industry.”

Sullivan, meanwhile, wrote that it “broke my heart into a million pieces to hear just how much Drake was holding inside while we were working together. I was both devastated and proud seeing the man he’s grown into sit down on camera and bravely tell his truth.

“Past abuse doesn’t define us,” she said, “and it has no right to rule our lives.”

Drake Bell Says Nickelodeon Co-Star Josh Peck Has Reached Out Amid Abuse Allegations: “Take It A Little Easy On Him”

Drake Bell is asking Drake & Josh fans to take it easy on his former co-star Josh Peck after Bell alleged on Quiet on Set he was abused by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck.

After Bell revealed his experience with Brian during his youth, many Nickelodeon fans took to social media to attack Josh. Although Josh and Brian have the same last name, they are unrelated.

Bell has now taken to TikTok to say Josh has reached out to him and asked fans not to be so harsh on his former co-star.

“I just want to clear something up. I’ve noticed a lot of comments on on some of Josh’s TikToks and some of his posts,” Bell said in the video. “I just want to let you guys know that this is really, you know, processing this and going through this is a really, emotional time and a lot of it’s very, very difficult. So not everything is put out to the public.”

He continued, “But I just want you guys to know that he has reached out to me and it’s been very sensitive. But he has reached out to to talk with me and help me work through this. And has been really, really great. So just wanted to let you guys know that and to take it a little easy on it.”

Dan Schneider Breaks Silence After Watching ‘Quiet on Set’ Doc: “It Hurts Really Bad”

A reaction video in which the former Nickelodeon producer talks cutting scenes from reruns, sexualized content in series, on-set massages, Drake Bell, Amanda Bynes and more has been obtained by the The Hollywood Reporter: "I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology."

An apologetic and at times emotional Dan Schneider has broken his silence after viewing Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, a four-part docuseries that made claims about toxic workplaces for child actors and crews on Nickelodeon series he created and ran.

“Watching over the past two nights was very difficult — me facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret. I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology,” Schneider told BooG!E, who played T-Bo on iCarly, in a 19-minute video interview that was shot after the former Nickelodeon producer watched Quiet on Set, which aired Sunday (March 18) and Monday (March 19) nights on ID and Max.

Among the allegations leveled at Schneider — who was once called the “Norman Lear of children’s television” in The New York Times — include that he tolerated toxic workplace conditions and that he allegedly tormented and humiliated the cast and crew on his TV sets.

“When I watched the show, I could see the hurt in some people’s eyes, and it made me feel awful and regretful and sorry. I wish I could go back, especially to those earlier years of my career, and bring the growth and the experience that I have now and just do a better job and never, ever feel like it was OK to be an asshole to anyone, ever,” Schneider said in the video obtained by The Hollywood Reporter (watch below).

[]
Dan Schneider

The prolific kids TV producer had stayed tightlipped in the weeks leading up to the ID doc series premiere. But, on Monday, after the first night aired, representatives for Schneider responded to claims about sexualized content and toxic on-set behavior by saying that “everything that happened on the shows Dan ran was carefully scrutinized by dozens of involved adults, and approved by the network.”

Now, he’s speaking directly and addressing specific allegations and stories of abuse.

In the third episode of Quiet on Set, Drake Bell, the star of Drake & Josh and The Amanda Show, named himself as the John Doe victim in Brian Peck’s sexual assault case. Schneider in the new video claims he did not hire the Nickelodeon dialogue coach who was convicted of sexually assaulting a child actor in 2004, now known to be Bell. Bell’s name was never previously revealed in open court.

“When Drake and I talked and he told me about what happened, I was more devastated by that than anything that ever happened to me in my career thus far. And I told him, ‘I’m here for you,'” Schneider said in the video.

At one point in the interview, Schneider teared up when recounting Bell’s mother coming to him for help to write a speech to read before the court at Peck’s trial: “She came to me at the time, and she said, ’Dan, I’m not good with words like you are. And would you help me with my speech for the judge? I said, ‘Of course.’ I did, and [Peck] ended up going to prison and serving his time.”

Schneider also recounted Bell having to attend a sentencing hearing for Peck where the convicted predator’s side of the courtroom was filled with supporters. “A lot of them [were] pretty famous. Of course, Drake was devastated that that happened. And even more disappointing, 41 of those people wrote letters for Peck’s character, letters praising him for who he was and asking for leniency,” he recalled.

Hollywood stars named in Quiet on Set for having written such letters include James Marsden, Taran Killam, Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle, Ron Melendez and the late Alan Thicke. (THR has reached out to those mentioned for comment.)

“That was probably the darkest part of my career,” Schneider said. “And here’s the kicker that I really don’t get. After [Peck] got out of prison and was a registered sex offender, he was hired on a Disney Channel show. I don’t understand that.”

THR has reached out to reps for Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel and Bell for comment. It’s understood that Peck voiced the role of a mirror on three episodes of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody for Disney Channel.

Sources also insist Peck performed the role entirely in a voiceover studio, well away from the series set, and had no interaction with cast and crew members, including minors. THR has also learned that, after learning of Peck’s conviction, Disney fired him immediately and replaced his voice and onscreen credits on the three episodes of the series he worked on.

In the post-Quiet on Set video, Schneider explained that he did not hire Peck for work on All That. When asked if “this was a Tollin/Robbins production?” Schneider responded yes, as he referred to the one-time production banner led by longtime producer-directors Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins.

Background sources at Paramount — where Robbins is currently president and CEO of Paramount Pictures after at one point overseeing Nickelodeon for then-parent company ViacomCBS — told THR that he was not in any way involved in hiring Peck to work at the kid’s TV network.

Schneider’s recollections of his years at Nickelodeon — where he created hit programs like The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious and Sam & Cat – follow his critics alleging online and in Quiet on Set that he was inappropriate to young females who worked for him and that he wrote inappropriate scripts for uncomfortable child actors to perform.

In hindsight, Schneider agreed some jokes crossed a line and should be cut from episodes that continue to air or can still be streamed. “All those jokes … the show covered over the past two nights, every one of those jokes was written for a kid audience because kids thought they were funny and only funny,”  he argued. But that was then. “Let’s cut those jokes out of the show, just like I would have done 20 years ago or 25 years ago,” he says. “I want my shows to be popular. I want everyone to like [the shows], the more people who liked the shows, the happier I am. So if there’s anything that needs to be cut because it’s upsetting somebody, let’s cut it.”

Among other revelations, Schneider claimed to have helped Amanda Bynes, star of the hit series The Amanda Show who at age 16 or 17 years, he recounted, attempted to separate herself from her parents. At one point in the video, he recalled a late night call from Bynes.

“It was very late. Well, after midnight, or 1 or 2 in the morning, the phone rang. I answered it, and it was Amanda. She was in distress. She had had some conflict with her parents — I think her father — and she called. I was immediately concerned for her safety,” Schneider claimed in the video.

He added that he arranged for Bynes to be picked up due to his safety concerns. “I felt better. She ended up being taken to the police.”

During his run, Schneider helped launch the careers of Bynes, Kenan Thompson, Victoria Justice, Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy and many more. While no sexual allegations involving child actors have been made against Schneider, he made several apologies in the video for young actors who said they felt uncomfortable or vulnerable on his TV sets.

“There are definitely things that I would do differently,” he insisted, including having licensed therapists on set to oversee child actors and the filming process. “The main thing that I would change is how I treat people and everyone. I definitely at times didn’t give people the best of me. I didn’t show enough patience. I could be cocky and definitely over-ambitious, and sometimes just straight up rude and obnoxious, and I’m sorry that I ever was.”

He also said, among other things, that he was wrong to ask anyone on set to give him massages: “It was wrong. It was wrong that I ever put anyone in that position. It was wrong to do. I’d never do it today. I’m embarrassed that I did it then. I apologize to anybody that I ever put in that situation.”

He also addressed the inappropriate jokes he told and the pranks that he pulled in the writers room. “Let me just say, no writer should ever feel uncomfortable in any writers room, ever. Period. The end. No excuses,” he said. Schneider insisted he should never have taken part, especially when he was in charge.

“I can tell you why it hurts really bad for me,” he continued when recalling early experiences in the entertainment business, “I was green. I was scared. I was excited. It meant the world to me that I was getting these opportunities. And I went in and I got lucky, because my first couple experiences were fantastic. And the fact that I didn’t pay it forward to every employee that walked through my door, it hurts my heart because I should have, and I wish I could go back and fix that.”

He also discussed what critics online and in the Quiet on the Set series point to as inappropriate “On Air Dare” sketches, which Schneider agreed in some cases “went too far.”

“When I was watching the show over the past two nights, I now know that there were kids who did have problems with the ‘On Air Dares,’ and it breaks my heart, and I’m so sorry, and I’m so sorry to any kid who ever had to do a dare or anything that they didn’t want to do or weren’t comfortable doing,” he said.

On the making of the reaction video, a spokesperson for Schneider said BooG!e reached out to the TV producer to see if he could ask him some questions about the series. “BooG!e wants to make clear though that he is not a journalist and wasn’t trying to be. He was offering to provide a platform for Dan to confront a lot of his previous behaviors,” the statement continued. “BooG!e thought it was something worth doing if Dan was into it, so people could hear from Dan.”

Quiet on Set is now streaming on Max.

Amanda Bynes is set to reunite with her All That costars Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli, and Lori Beth Denberg at '90s Con at the Connecticut Convention Center in March.

Bynes and her former Nickelodeon posse will join a roster of other '90s staples, including alums of Blue's Clues (Steve Burns), Double Dare (Marc Summers), Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Melissa Joan Hart, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick, Nate Richert, Jenna Leigh Green, Nick Bakay), Saved by the Bell (Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley), Hocus Pocus (Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw), and more for the nostalgic convention, which will take place from March 17 to 19.

Fans can attend a panel featuring Bynes and her former costars, participate in a meet-and-greet, and take photos with the cast. A replica of Nickelodeon's famed orange couch will also be on deck for photo ops.

"I'm really excited to reunite with my castmates and meet the fans," Bynes said in a statement.

"Last year, I had a blast at '90s Con promoting my book and new single Blessed Mode,'" adds Mitchell, 44, in a statement. "What better way to return than with the All That gang… including Amanda Bynes who will be joining Danny, Lori Beth, and me this year."

"Plus, I will be bringing copies of my new comedy fantasy adventure book Prank Day, and I can't wait to see all the 90's fashion the fans are bringing this year," he adds. "'90s Con is a whole vibe! Let's go!"

Christina Figliolia and Liliana Kligman, '90s Con and That's4Entertainment founders, told PEOPLE they are "so honored" to host "a mini-reunion" for the cast of All That at the second annual convention.

"Last year was amazing and we cannot wait for this year's show," the pair adds.

Bynes joined the cast of All That, a sketch-comedy series billed as Saturday Night Live for tweens, during its third season in 1996 and starred in it until 2002. The show led to several spin-offs for its young stars, including Bynes' The Amanda Show, which ran for three seasons between 1999 and 2002. Nickelodeon revived All That in 2019, with original stars Mitchell, Denberg, Kenan Thompson, and Josh Server making cameos throughout its run, and Mitchell and Thompson serving as executive producers.

In addition to Bynes, Mitchell, Tamberelli and Denberg, the series also starred Angelique Bates, Katrina Johnson, Alisa Reyes, Josh Server, Kenan Thompson, Leon Frierson, Christy Knowings, Nick Cannon and Mark Saul across its initial 10-season run.

The series inspired several spinoffs, including Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, and The Amanda Show.

Over the years, the cast have reunited several times. In 2015, Mitchell, Tamberelli, Denberg and Server met up at Comic Con, where they hosted a panel that gave attendees a behind-the-scenes glimpse into All That.

Mitchell, Denberg, Server and Thompson also came together in 2018 for an episode of Cannon's MTV sketch and improv series Wild 'N Out

The following year, Mitchell opened up about working with Bynes back when the two were merely teens looking to become breakout stars in the industry.

"I love Amanda, she's like [my] little sister. She's so fearless," Mitchell told Entertainment Tonight at the time. "I remember her being on set, she told me, 'Hey Kel, I wanna do the physical comedy that you do.' So I used to show her little tricks to do that would make her comedy just awesome."

"She did everything so great, so awesome, she was super fearless," he continued.

At the time, Mitchell also said he wanted Bynes to make a cameo in the All That reboot, produced by his pal Thompson.

"We really want her to do a cameo in All That. We've been talking about that," Mitchell explained. "So, Amanda, come on, girl! Call ya brother up!"

'90s Con marks Bynes' first public event since the termination of her nine-year conservatorship last March. In contrast to Britney Spears' court battle to terminate her conservatorship, Bynes was able to end hers fairly promptly and with the full support of her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes.

"Lynn is so proud of Amanda and the progress she has made and looks forward to having a mother-daughter relationship with Amanda outside of the conservatorship," Tamar Arminak, a lawyer for Bynes' parents, previously told EW.

Bynes said in her own statement, "In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter."

Amanda Bynes Freed From Conservatorship After Nearly Nine Years

Amanda Bynes’ conservatorship has been terminated, coming to end after nearly nine years.

Bynes, who rose to fame as a child actor on Nickelodeon’s All That in the ’90s and then starred in a slew of hit movies in the early 2000’s, has been under a conservatorship since 2013.

“The conservatorship is no longer need or required, and therefore, the petition of termination is granted,” Judge Roger L. Lund said Tuesday morning at the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, in Oxnard, Calif. “She’s done everything the court has asked over a long period of time,” the judge added, before congratulating Bynes.

Bynes was not present at the hearing. Her attorney, David A. Esquibias, spoke on her behalf.

With no objections in the courtroom, the hearing lasted all of five minutes, and termination was expected. The day before the hearing, the judge issued a tentative ruling, stating that the conservatorship is “no longer required,” setting the stage for the end of the court-ordered arrangement that Bynes had been living under for over the past decade.

During the brief hearing, Judge Roger L. Lund congratulated "Ms. Bynes" and wished her "good luck."

With the conservatorship of both her person and her estate being terminated, Bynes will now have control over her finances and is able to choose where she wants to live, how she wants to conduct her life and will have oversight over all day-to-day responsibilities.

Bynes filed a petition to terminate the conservatorship on Feb. 23 with the support of her mother, attorney and psychiatrist. Along with the petition to terminate was a capacity declaration from Feb. 22 because the state of California requires all conservatees to provide updated information on their mental state from their physician or medical practitioner. Bynes’ psychiatrist supported ending the conservatorship, writing that Bynes “has no apparent impairment in alertness and attention, information and processing, or ability to modulate mood and affect, and suffers no thought disorders.”

In 2013, the former child star’s parents, Rick Bynes and Lynn Organ, originally petitioned the court for a conservatorship when their famous daughter allegedly set a driveway on fire and was hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold. In 2014, her mother was granted a full conservatorship, becoming her official conservator.

Two of Bynes’ former All That cast mates were present at hearing, as were a trio of #FreeBritney activists who were at the courthouse to support Bynes, as part of their continued mission to raise awareness for conservatorship abuse, following the termination of Britney Spears’ conservatorship last November.

“We hope to speak to her and celebrate with her in some way,” said Leon Frierson, who starred on All That in the 90’s. Fellow Nickelodeon co-star Christy Knowings added, “We would love to see Amanda.”

Leon and Christy wrote in a joint Instagram post ahead of the court ruling, "It's my job to show up for others the way I would want them to show up for me, so I'm honored to represent the cast in support of Amanda!" The two were also photographed with fans as they celebrated Amanda's new freedom.

Bynes, who is now 35 and engaged, is currently a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

“We’re all excited and we’re all anxiously looking forward to Amanda living a life as a private and normal citizen,” Bynes’ attorney told Variety earlier this week, before the hearing.

Since 2020, Bynes had been living in a structured community for women in need. The facility typically addresses drug, alcohol or substance dependency issues, and also medical issues. Esquibias told Variety this week that Bynes “has done very well in a very short period of time that she’s been there,” and is now “able to live on her own independently and free of the conservatorship.”

In 2014, Bynes displayed erratic behavior on Twitter, posting a series of tweets accusing her father of abuse; she then walked back the comments, saying she had a microchip in her brain, which caused her to tweet the false claims. Shortly after, Bynes was admitted to an involuntary emergency psychiatric hold at a California facility. During that time, Bynes had tweeted that she was diagnosed “bipolar and manic depressive,” though her attorney declined to comment on any medical issues and whether Bynes was ever diagnosed as bipolar, citing client attorney privilege.

Bynes spoke about her past in 2018, telling Paper Magazine, “I got really into my drug usage and it became a really dark, sad world for me.” She told the publication that she began smoking marijuana when she was 16 years old. “Later on it progressed to doing molly and ecstasy,” she said in that interview, adding that she “abused” Adderall and tried cocaine a few times.

An individual close to Bynes told Variety that the retired actor never had a drug addiction, explaining that she had a medical condition that required supervision and required assistance and education.”

Last month, when Bynes filed to terminate the conservatorship, a family attorney for her mother, Lynn Organ, said that the conservatorship was always “intended to be temporary” and stated that “Lynn is extremely happy and thrilled and proud of Amanda and ready to terminate this conservatorship based on the hard work Amanda has done.”

When asked what Bynes is focusing on with her newfound freedom, Esquibias recently told Variety, “Besides normalcy as a person and a student, I know that she is looking forward to what her next step is going to be. She is very creative, so she’s trying to find an outlet for that.” The attorney mentioned that Bynes is interested in starting a fragrance line and possibly a clothing line and that she wouldn’t necessarily rule out a return to acting.

In a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE via her lawyer Esquibias, the former actress-turned-fashion student expressed her gratitude while sharing insight into her future plans.

"Following today's decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time. I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years," says Bynes, 35.

"In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter. I am excited about my upcoming endeavors — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can," she concludes.

After news broke that the 35-year-old's nine-year conservatorship had ended, Amanda told E! News, "Words can't even describe how I feel. Wonderful news."

"Lynn is very happy and proud of Amanda for everything that she's done and come through, and how she's stronger and better on other side of this conservatorship," Tamar Arminak, Lynn's attorney, told E! News. "Lynn is looking forward to Amanda's engagement and everything that follows, and to having a mother-daughter relationship rather than a conservator-conservatee relationship."

As for what's next for Amanda, a source close to the She's the Man actress exclusively told E! News that she and Paul are currently renting an apartment together and have already signed a lease for a new home.  The insider also said that Amanda, who has an associate's degree from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, is making plans to move forward with her perfume line, which will "be the first project she dives into on her own now that she's free of the conservatorship."

Since filing to end her conservatorship in February, Bynes has been taking steps towards independence, most recently locating an L.A. rental to move into with her fiancé Paul Michael. (The couple — who met in late 2019 — announced their engagement on Valentine's Day 2020.)

"She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary," Esquibias told PEOPLE last month of Bynes, who has been largely residing in a sober living community.

A week later, Bynes returned to Instagram in a since-deleted post, addressing Tuesday's conservatorship hearing. "What's up Instagram. Amanda Bynes here. My court date is coming up in two weeks," she said. "I want to thank you all for your love and support. Peace out."

Bynes has remained out of the entertainment business for more than a decade. Her last credit was the 2010 film Easy A, in which she starred opposite Emma Stone. After her breakthrough as a child star on All That, she landed her own sketch variety series as a preteen, The Amanda Show, which ran for three seasons and cemented her status as a comedic prodigy. In the 2000s, Bynes had continuous work, leading popular television and film projects, including She’s the Man with Channing Tatum, What a Girl Wants, Sydney White, the 2007 movie adaptation of Hairspray and the TV sitcom What I Like About You, in which she co-starred with Jennie Garth from 2002 to 2006.

Bynes’ case is the second high-profile conservatorship to recently capture interest from the public, following Spears’ conservatorship, which was put in place in 2008 and was terminated last November, dominating international headlines with worldwide rallying from the #FreeBritney movement. The pop star’s legal proceedings remain ongoing as Spears’ contentious uphill battle against her father continues to play out, both in the courtroom and in the court of public opinion. With Spears’ case at the forefront of media attention, Bynes’ conservatorship also began to gain traction on social media with many fans finding interest in the actress’ story and making public calls to free Bynes, though the inner workings of the two cases are very different.

Drake Bell Claims Josh Peck Wrote Offensive 'Drake & Josh Reboot Script

Drake Bell Spilled More Details About His Feud With Josh Peck And Claimed He Once Scripted An Entire Drake & Josh Reboot Centered Around Mexican Stereotypes

“How could I have texted him on the night of his wedding about his wedding… when I didn’t know there was a wedding until the day after the wedding.”

It might be 2022, but it feels like 2017 again; the infamous feud between Drake Bell and Josh Peck appears to be escalating.

If you needed a quick refresher, the former Nickelodeon co-stars found themselves caught up in a public drama after Drake called Josh out online for not inviting him to his wedding.

For context, the two played fan-favorite stepbrothers in Nickelodeon's beloved sitcom Drake & Josh from 2004 to 2007, but they apparently lost touch over the years that followed. When Josh got married to Paige O’Brien Peck a decade after the show finished filming, he didn’t feel the need to invite his former costar.

Drake made this public knowledge at the time, hopping online to post — and quickly delete — a series of harsh tweets. “When you’re not invited to the wedding the message is clear…,” he wrote. “True colors have come out today. Message is loud and clear. Ties are officially cut. I’ll miss you brotha.”

A couple of months later, the two reunited at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) and seemingly reconciled their friendship. They went on to appear in several vlogs together, even partaking in scripted sketches that poked fun at their dispute.

But last week, Josh spoke out about the discord for the first time and made a bunch of claims about what actually went down between the two on the day of his wedding.

“So I didn’t invite [Drake] to my wedding ‘cause I hadn’t talked to him in many, many years,” Josh recalled on the BFFs podcast last Thursday (March 17).

“I knew that Drake and I didn’t stay in touch for the 10 years since we had made the show, but no one needed to know that,” he said. “Cut to, I’m getting married that night. And I see these text messages from him cursing me out, coming for me…on the night of my wedding.”

Recalling Drake’s infamous tweets, Josh said: “He takes to the internet and he starts writing these tweets that immediately catch fire. … So then he leans in and goes on this press tour about how heartbroken he is and creating this narrative that just wasn’t true.”

He continued, “I remember a month later ... I was at the Video Music Awards, and I see him there, and he sees me. I go up to him — and this might be the most Sopranos thing I've ever done — I look at him and I go, ‘Go apologize to my wife right now.’”

“And he goes, ‘OK’ and he made a beeline for my wife, and I see him do this whole five-minute performance of an apology. ... I was like, 'Go apologize to my wife or something bad’s gonna happen,’” Josh added.

Shortly afterward, Drake’s wife Janet Von Schmeling publicly refuted Josh’s claims, branding him a “f**king liar” in a quickly deleted Instagram story. She denied that Josh had ever threatened Drake, instead alleging that he’d “nicely” asked him to apologize.

And now, Drake has given his recollection of the night — as well as his opinion on Josh’s remarks — in a brand-new podcast.

On Sunday (Mach 20), Drake revealed on Instagram that he and Janet launched their own podcast, titled Drake & Janet. A bunch of users immediately noted that the name, font, and logo were virtually identical to those of Drake & Josh, prompting speculation that the podcast would be full of further insight into the feud.

Well, not only does the description of the episode read “Drake spills the tea…,” but Josh's comments from the BFFs podcast are also featured in the first few seconds.

Janet firstly discusses her public reaction to Josh’s remarks. “Looking back on it now, obviously I’m more calm. I don’t know why it upset me so much,” she says, to which Drake responds, “‘cause you’re my wife.”

“I was there that day,” Janet recalls. “I saw [Josh] with his camera before he even came up to you. I whispered in your ear and said, ‘Josh is walking up, and he has a camera, and he is vlogging you. … And then Josh walks up shaking with his camera.’”

They then play the footage in question, which was uploaded to Josh’s YouTube channel as part of a vlog called “DRAKE AND JOSH REUNION.” In the short clip, Josh approaches Drake and seemingly catches him off guard. “Holy sh*t,” Drake says. “What’s up, buddy? Is this happening right now, live?”

Josh says to Drake, “Please tell Facebook to be nice to me” — referring to the onslaught of hate that he and Paige received after Drake publicly slammed him on Twitter. “Oh my god, it’s not even my fault,” Drake replies, before looking directly into the camera and telling fans to “chill out” and “lay off.”

Now recalling the day in more detail on their podcast, both Drake and Janet claim that the entire exchange was lighthearted — as opposed to how Josh described things last week.

Janet says: “We were all smiling, laughing, he did ask you to apologize — rightfully so,” to which Drake adds, “And I wanted to.”

Drake then claims Josh said to him: “Hey, man, you don’t need to say sorry to me, but I really need you to say sorry to Paige.”

“I was like, ‘Yeah, dude, absolutely. Like, I wanna say sorry to Paige,’” Drake recalls. “And that was it.”

Janet and Drake then claim that they exchanged numbers with Josh and Paige after the encounter, and that all four of them went on to hang out several times — contrary to Josh’s claim that they barely communicated after the VMAs.

“We’ve hung out many times,” Janet says, echoed by Drake. He adds, “That’s what bugged me about it. That [Josh] was like, ‘We weren’t friends, we didn’t hang out.’ … That’s not true.”

Drake also refutes Josh’s claim that he had sent him harsh messages on the night of his wedding. “How could I have texted him on the night of his wedding about his wedding when I didn’t know there was a wedding until the day after the wedding,” reads the onscreen text alongside screenshots showing that Drake’s tweets were posted on June 18, while Josh’s wedding took place on June 17.

Drake calls Josh out for saying that the texts came out of the blue and that the two hadn’t talked in years, instead claiming that they’d texted and hung out on several occasions.

“It was just strange,” Drake says. “I mean, look. I said some tarty things. But I was bummed, dude. … I was like, man, that sucks. Like, I wish I could have been there for you.”

“Josh and I have always had our ups and downs. … Maybe it’s just ‘cause we were kids and we had our own demons,” he continues. “We’ve had times when we’ve been friends, and we’ve had times where we’ve wanted to kill each other … but we were like brothers.”

Drake goes on to recall more details from his and Josh’s past, claiming that the two had once planned on creating an entire Drake & Josh reboot.

According to Drake & Janet, Josh had pitched a script for the show that was based on the stepbrothers all grown up and featured a bunch of ruder jokes. For example, Josh had apparently wanted to spin the show’s iconic “Hug me, brother” line to “Hug yourself, f*ckhead” as part of a comedic new plot.

But as the couple read back on Josh’s alleged script, they reveal that much of the plot was centered around harmful Mexican stereotypes. Janet is from Paraguay, a country in South America. Meanwhile, Drake now infamously goes by the surname Campana across social media and made the switch to posting in Spanish last year.

“‘We’re in Mexico,’” Janet reads. “‘Drake performs at a quinceañera — a Latin celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday. It’s not your typical quince. This newly 15-year-old Elena is the daughter of the biggest drug kingpin in Mexico’ … Really?”

She continues, “'Her father Enriqué — the head of the cartel — sits in the middle of the party at a table surrounded by guards and beautiful women. … Think Escobar, Chapo,’” she reads, with Drake groaning at the stereotypes around the drug business.

“‘Drake is onstage backed by a mariachi band,’” Janet reads. “‘People drink copious amounts of alcohol…and ingest other illicit substances.’” She later adds that they “go into a gun fight” and refuse to pay Drake — which, as she notes, is “another terrible stereotype.”

Drake says, “Right when I read [the script], I was like, 'Man, I can’t represent [Mexican people like that].'” He and Janet call Josh’s script “a direct insult” on all they’d built and cultivated living in Mexico over the years.

Janet then discloses that the “Mexico depiction was just the tip of the iceberg” and that there were apparently “so many other red flags” present in Josh’s script. She says that as Drake’s business partner, producer, and wife, she couldn’t “allow” him to partake in something that perpetuated such harmful stereotypes.

“I wasn’t gonna let you do that script,” she says, noting that their 9-month-old son is half Paraguayan and will speak Spanish when he’s older. “You weren’t gonna let yourself do it anyway,” she adds, to which Drake agrees.
