The world's largest Zeppelin airship launches new social media campaign

One Direction have unveiled a behind the scenes look at their life on the road during their recent US arena tour.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars released the footage following the recent conclusion of the outing.

The clip opens with Louis Tomlinson joking that his name is Jennifer before the band break out into rapturous laughter.

The group can be seen being chased by fans in taxi's, pretending to fight and hitting the red carpet [Orange Carpet] of the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2012.

The 'Gotta Be You' stars also start throwing toilet rolls at one another in the hilarious inside look at the band.

Dauman, who is the President and CEO of Viacom, announced during Viacom's Fiscal Year Second Quarter 2012 Earnings Release Teleconference on Thursday 3rd May 2012 that Nickelodeon channels around the world (Nickelodeon International), including Nickelodeon UK, saw a rise in ratings during the second quarter of 2012's fiscal year, which were driven by the popular Nickelodeon shows "iCarly" and "Victorious", and that Nickelodeon UK has "a strong pipeline in the current quarter" as well:

Even as we expand to new markets, we're strengthening our presence in existing ones. We had a very strong quarter in the U.K., one of our most important markets. Ratings were up 21% at MTV U.K., thanks to Jersey Shore, which just concluded its second season as the highest-rated series ever for the channel. Comedy Central ratings are up 67%, thanks to strong U.S.-based acquired programming and our local original comedy, Threesome. Finally, Nickelodeon U.K., as well as the Nick brand in many markets around the world, saw ratings gains, driven by iCarly and Victorious, with a strong pipeline in the current quarter as well.

This week's Peek at the Week comes from across the pond, from the capital of glamour and gluttony... Hollywood baby!

With awards season in Los Angeles in full swing, last weekend saw the turn of Downtown LA to be in lockdown, as the annual slime fest that is the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards took place.

Lucky me, I got to go along and report back on all the hype and hysteria exclusively for Digital Spy.



Arriving at LAX, it always amazes me the sheer fascination Americans seem to have with my accent. To me it's a rather plain, not quite posh enough for my mother, North London/Hertfordshire twang. To the countless taxi drivers and waiters I encountered over the course of my trip, it appeared to be bizarrely something quite to the contrary. Most flattering, when personally I can't stand hearing my own shriek on the telly, I dread to think what the rest of you lot must endure! My apologies.

The other fascination reinforced to me was this overseas obsession and intrigue with the royal family. I only had to utter the word 'hello' to my airport transfer taxi driver, and upon deciphering the origin of my accent, launched into a 'William and Kate' question and answer session so persistent it would have had David Dimbleby stuttering for words.

I digress; LA and its multi-cultural mix of people is a terrific place to visit, and it's second to none for its awards ceremonies - Nickelodeon's 25th annual awards were in safe hands.

With 220 million votes cast worldwide, and 15,000 celebrities and kids in attendance, it was a success from the off.

Arriving on the vast 'orange' carpet, it was impossible to ignore the sheer wall of sound courtesy of the One Direction fans who had lined the streets. Now we've all heard that Harry and Co are big stars in the US, and of course their recent number one proves it, but the hysteria our five British boys created simply by getting out of a car was something to be believed. Screaming, crying, brandishing marriage proposals... and that was just from our production crew.

Seriously though, One Direction really are the surprise X Factor success story. Despite the 20-man 'PR machine' and entourage flanking them at all times, the lads appear to remain unchanged. They were polite, humble, and natural in the way they conducted themselves in such manic surroundings.

Giving the UK journalists hugs and kisses, I asked Harry, 'When are you coming home?' and grinning from ear to ear he replied, 'We miss the UK, we'll be back soon'. And in a pack formation they were swept into the venue to perform their smash hit 'One Thing', which saw even Michelle Obama and her daughters groove along in the audience.

The arrival of The First Lady had caused a buzz of excitement and tension prior to the event, with the entire Galen Centre - which played host to the awards - being evacuated for two hours beforehand for Secret Service to conduct a security sweep.

With a guest list that read as the best kids party EVER, the screaming crowd were clearly in their element as the likes of Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Taylor Lautner, Halle Berry, Nicki Minaj, Cee Lo Green, Heidi Klum, Adam Sandler, new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart and Big Time Rush all took their turn to either perform, present or get slimed with the famous Nickelodeon green goo.

Other A-listers had just turned up to watch the fun like the rest of us, and tugging at her short dress, a rather self-conscious Victoria Beckham seemed to be enjoying the event with her three boys. No sign of Daddy Beckham or baby Harper, but having clearly inherited their parents good looks and fashion sense, Brooklyn and Romeo were quite happy to dance away next to LA Reid, while a shyer looking Cruz took refuge on Mummy's knee, before all making a sharp exit at the end.

Katy Perry in Gladiatorial regalia delighted the cheering punters as she flew in with sword in hand, before performing girl power single 'Part of Me'. Brandishing an oversized diamond ring before discarding in a frenzy, one couldn't help but think a sneaky subliminal message to ex-hubby Russell Brand perhaps??

But one relationship that seemed to be well and truly ON course following recent headlines to the contrary, host Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith, along with their super talented kids, Jaden and Willow, all showed a united front and mucked in with the shenanigans.

It was thanks to the Smith kids and their announcement of the final award that drew the biggest screams from the audience, as Justin Bieber won the coveted Favourite Singer 'blimp' and entered the stage from the back of the auditorium, his 'smile' quickly turned to 'slime' as he and Will Smith closed the show receiving a truly spectacular amount of green goo in the face... and the body! it was everywhere! A finale worthy of a 'blimp' award itself.

Having attending this awards show in previous years, 2012's offering of the now legendary Kids' Choice Awards proved that it really is up there in the showbiz calendar for an A-list turnout. Number 1 in the ratings over the weekend, I can't wait to see how they can possibly top it next year.

One Direction have admitted that they are shocked and amazed by their quick success in the US music charts.

The X Factor boyband broke chart records by scoring a number one with their debut disc Up All Night.

The group performed at last weekend's Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and are rumoured to have been invited to the White House after meeting Michelle Obama at the ceremony. The five-piece also picked up a gong at the awards show for 'Favourite UK Band'.

"Coming over here and having the reception to our music so far, it's been amazing," Styles told Digital Spy.

"For people to accept us and welcome us and to give us an award has been amazing."

The Wanted and One Direction are rubbing shoulders on Billboard’s Hot 100 after simultaneously appearing in the chart’s top five for the first time.

In the battle of the British boy bands The Wanted are edging it currently, reversing a chart decline a week ago by moving back up 4-3 with Glad You Came whose weekly digital sales rise 24% to 209,000 downloads and US radio audience up 11% to 106 million.

However, hot on their heels are One Direction who continue to make rapid progress with What Makes You Beautiful, which lifts 9-4 and is the chart’s greatest gainer in terms of both digital and streaming. Its download tally is up 48% on the week to 294,000, taking cumulative US sales beyond 1 million to 1.1million, while on Billboard’s On Demand chart covering streaming activity the track climbs 11-7 with a 28% gain.

Glad You Came remains some distance ahead of What Makes You Beautiful on American radio, climbing 4-3 on Billboard’s Radio Songs airplay chart as the One Direction hit lifts 42-26. But the Syco act are making up ground with their radio audience growing 31% in a week to 42 million, while their US profile got a further big boost last week when they performed on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. They also have a second Hot 100 hit with One Thing re-entering this week at 75.

Sitting ahead of the two UK acts on the Hot 100 are Fun featuring Janelle Monae's We Are Young, which spends a sixth week at the top, and Gotye featuring Kinmbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know, which rises 3-2. Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend might have seen to be in contention for the top slot having debuted at two last week with the second-highest first-week sales for a download in history, but it now falls to five with its digital sales dropping 43% to what remains a very impressive 295,000 units.

Other Brits making progress on the countdown are Calvin Harris whose Feel So Close rises 14-13 and Ellie Goulding up 62-60 with Lights, while Adele’s Rumour Has It climbs 35-23. However, both Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You disappear from the Hot 100 last week, the former after 65 weeks, the joint third longest in history behind Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours (76 weeks) and LeAnn Rimes’ How Do I Live (69 weeks).

As she holds at six on the Hot 100 with Starships, Nicki Minaj scores her second Billboard 200 number one with Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded debuting at the top with 253,000 sales. That compares to a first week of 375,000 for her first album Pink Friday, which entered at two in December 2010 and eventually climbed to one the following February.

As on the Hot 100, there are two UK acts in the Billboard 200’s top five with One Direction cropping up here as well. Having slipped 1-4-6, their debut Up All Night is now climbing again, regaining a place to five with sales rising 98% to 92,000. This increase, which takes the album’s cumulative US total to around 370,000, follows not only their Saturday Night Live appearance but also a performance on Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards.

The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2012 kicked off in its traditional high octane fashion, this year with thousands of screaming One Direction fans lining the streets of Downtown LA.

The orange carpet was flooded with talent, leading the way and looking uber skinny was E! Entertainment host Kelly Osbourne.

The Hunger Games cast were out in their droves, hot off the back of their phenomenal recent movie success.

Nick Cannon, parading his new four-piece boyband, admitted his twins Moroccan and Monroe were too young for him to bring this year but he hopes to bring them when they're a little older to see their TV host dad take a legendary 'sliming'.

Cannon also let slip that with his America's Got Talent boss Simon Cowell safely out of the way fronting the UK version, he was 'pleased to see the back of him'. A hasty backtrack from 'Mr Mariah' before Mr C gives him his P45 I think!

One Direction mania was certainly the buzz word of the day. We've all heard how the US have embraced our cheeky lads but it really does have to be seen to be believed. Thousands of crying, screaming girls were proof that One Direction really are the most successful export for quite some time. Looking polished and confident, yet not cocky or 'affected', Harry and Co are clearly enjoying their newfound level of fame and thankfully they seem to remain their down to earth selves.

No 'robot-esque' media training (yet!) or plastic, trowelled on make-up - in fact it appeared Harry had missed a few bits during his morning shave - the lads are in their element and so they should be. Harry was sweet enough to give Digital Spy a shout out and let all us UK fans know that they miss us. Awwww.

Kicking off proceedings in style, Will Smith descended into the Galen Centre in attire very reminiscent of his Fresh Prince days. Showing a united front and shunning recent rumours of marriage problems, Will, wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and protégés Jaden and Willow all happily bantered together for the cameras, with Will even having his kids 'abducted' in a comedy sketch.

Victoria Beckham had obviously decided to give her boys a day out and looked on reservedly with her youngest lad Cruz perched on her knee throughout. Older brothers Romeo and Brooklyn appeared happy to watch the many slimings sat next to LA Reid.

The much hyped and anticipated performance from One Direction didn't disappoint, with the lads working the stage like pros. Niall drew the most screams from the crowd appearing to have knocked Harry and Zayn off the top of the popularity tree. Having said that, all five lads reduced the majority of the crowd to quivering wrecks. Even Katy Perry was seen getting down in the aisle to 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

And performance of the night came from Katy Perry. Dressed in a gladiator costume and flying through the auditorium to 'do battle' with her many dancers, a blue haired Katy flung herself around the stage to ear piercing screams before declaring 'she's never grown up'.

Standing ovation was awarded to First Lady Michelle Obama who sashayed on stage in suitably casual attire to present The Big Help award to a shocked yet grateful Taylor Swift.

Following the KCAs was a brand-new episode of Nick's latest live-action series How to Rock (9:30 p.m. ET/PT), which set a ratings record for the series with tweens and total viewers and ranks as the week's number-two telecast with all kids and tweens on all TV (second only to the KCAs). The half-hour episode drew 4.4 million total viewers and posted double-digit increases over the series' season-to-date average, with a 5.7/2 million K2-11 (+37%), 8.1/1.7 million K6-11 (+41%), 8.5/1.8 million T9-14 (+51%).

Those guys, if you don't know by now, are Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik. Their album Up All Night made Billboard history by becoming the first debut album by a British group to enter the chart at No. 1.

X Factor star Rachel Crow met them recently in New York City. "Their songs are in my head all the time," she said.

Their hit "What Makes You Beautiful" is her favorite. "I pretend they're singing to me," Crow smiled.

During 1D's Kids' Choice performance, Gomez, Swift and even the First Lady got out of their seats to dance.

Glee's Chris Colfer was walking the orange arrivals carpet just a few feet in front of the guys. It wasn't easy interviewing anyone when 1D was around, because the screaming was deafening. Colfer cracked, "Maybe we'll do a One Direction tribute episode."

Ha!

And 1D seems to be on a campaign to work with Bruno Mars. They recently told E! News they wanted to collaborate with the "Grenade" hitmaker and reiterated it on Saturday. "If we could work with anyone in the world, I think we'd pick Bruno Mars," Harry said. "He's just incredible. He's got the voice. And he's a great performer."

And if that doesn't work out, Louis joked, "Susan Boyle."

This weekend's 25th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards saw Justin Bieber, Halle Berry, Will Smith, Taylor Lautner and Chris Colfer of Glee inducted into a very select group of celebrities. No, not the winners of the "Favourite Buttkicker" gong (though Lautner did win that one), but that privileged élite blessed with having been "slimed" on TV.

Even Michelle Obama was part-spattered with the green stuff that, in the UK, we tend to call "gunge". The substance consists of water mixed with an industrial thickening agent (hydroxyethylcellulose is popular in the UK, methylcellulose in the US) and a colourant such as powder paints or food colouring (powder paints are less likely to leave a stain on designer clothing). Gunge/slime was a regular feature of BBC programmes such as Tiswas, Noel's House Party and Dick and Dom in the Bungalow.

In North America, it had a starring role in the Ghostbusters movies, and has long been a favourite prank-based tool for Nickelodeon, the children's channel whose very logo is a blob of orange slime. An honour indeed.

The 25th annual award show began with the 43-year-old circling the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from a huge 246-foot orange airship.

The father-of-three then moved to the door of the trademark Nickelodeon blimp and appeared to jump out of it.

However, the stunt was actually the result of some very clever digital animation and special effects.

As if that wasn't enough, the Just the Two of Us singer was then lowered down from the roof and landed on the stage to huge applause from the star studded audience.

The 'Never Say Never' singer was introduced to accept the award by show host Will Smith's two children Jaden and Willow Smith, and made his way to the stage through the crowd while hugging and celebrating with his fans. After picking up his Kids' Choice Award Will Smith then joined Justin and revealed he was the secret celebrity viewers had been voting to get slimed all night, after which a huge shower of slime covered the two stars to close out the show. Earlier this week (26th March) Justin gave his brand new single 'Boyfriend' its first play on Capital FM , and unveiled a teaser for the song's music video yesterday morning (31st March). Michelle Obama invites One Direction to White House One Direction have been invited to attend a party at the White House by Michelle Obama, a spokesperson for the President's wife has confirmed. The boy band were introduced to the First Lady backstage at this weekend's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice awards in LA. They can't attend the annual event, which includes an easter egg hunt, as they'll be on tour in Australia. In March they became the first British group to go straight to the top of the US music charts with their debut album. The group - put together on X Factor 2010 - shifted 176,000 copies of Up All Night, which only went to number two in the UK charts in December 2011. One Direction are returning to the US and Canada in the summer to tour. After rappelling to the stage and deactivating a booby trap set by a mysterious Creepy Voice determined to stop the show, Smith kicked off the silver anniversary celebration with a performance of “Can U Handle This” and balloons filled with confetti and slime. First Lady Michelle Obama made her first-ever appearance at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards, presenting Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Taylor Swift with this year’s The Big Help Award in recognition of her extensive philanthropic endeavors, including her work with tornado and flood survivors in the United States. The Big Help Award recognizes individuals who take actions to better the world and whose significant impact on their community has inspired kids to do the same. Instead, he got “ice cream sundae’d” by Smith who said being slimed was an honor and his behavior was unslimeable.
