It appears as if Nickelodeon is discontinuing NickRewind, the network's late-night retro programming block on TeenNick after over 10 years on air.
In mid-January, NickRewind removed most of its shows, opting to air the original iCarly series most evenings between 11 p.m. - 6 a.m., but keeping the NickRewind branding and BUGS/DOGS. However, starting last night (Jan. 31), TeenNick started to use its own branding and BUGS/DOGS during those hours.
TeenNick's evening programming block for Nickelodeon Classics begun life as The '90s Are All That in July 2011. The block then became known as The Splat in October 2015, followed by NickSplat in May 2017, and eventually NickRewind in March 2019.
The news comes as Nickelodeon's parent company, ViacomCBS, is switching its focus on streaming. A vast amount of Nickelodeon's back-catalog is available on Paramount+, the company's streaming platform, with more being added regularly.
Update (2/3) - The NickRewind Twitter page has confirmed that the NickRewind programming block has been discontinued. However, programming is still available on ViacomCBS' free streaming service Pluto TV and paid-for streaming service Paramount+:
while the block is no longer airing, you can catch your faves on @PlutoTV and @paramountplus!
For the moment, Nickelodeon is keeping its NickRewind social media pages on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channel open for fans, although the latter has started to concentrate on Nickelodeon shows made post-2000, such as iCarly, Victorious and Sam & Cat.

This feature-length documentary follows television icon Marc Summers, the host of Nickelodeon's Double Dare and Food Network's Unwrapped, as he rehearses and develops the live theater show about his life - THE LIFE & SLIMES OF Marc Summers - that appeared at ATF in 2016.
Marc Summers started hosting Nickelodeon's Double Dare in the late 80's, and is now co-hosting its recent reboot, now airing on Nickelodeon USA. Along with hosting Food Network's Unwrapped, Summers also worked as a magician, comedian, and TV Producer. This documentary will delve into his life experiences, and Marc Summers himself will be there for a Q and A after the screening.

For the most part, episode descriptions offer a vague synopsis of what you're going to be watching, and thus, can be a bit boring. But every now and then, there are magical episode descriptions written by someone who really cares. Which brings me to Amazon Video and the service's synopses for Nick Arcade, Nickelodeon's cult favorite game-centric show from the '90s.
Hosted by Phil Moore, Nick Arcade was part game show, part tournament, pitting two teams of two kids against each other through two initial trivia rounds, with the winner advancing to the "Video Zone" to play against the virtual "Video Game Wizard" of the day via green scene magic. Filmed at Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios Florida, the series ran for 84 episodes over two seasons in 1992.
The series has become a cult favorite amongst '90s Nick Kids, including with someone working behind-the-scenes at Amazon, who knows each episode well enough to have some fun with the synopses! As pointed out by freelancer writer Heidi Kemps on her Twitter account, the Nick Arcade descriptions are pure gold.
"A contestant named Nicole goes inside of a video game and has to jump over virtual rats in an attempt to win a set of encyclopedias. Host Phil Moore makes no attempt to convince her that it isn't worth the trouble," reads the synopsis of the first episode.
Each description gets steadily gets weirder and weirder, as the writer’s attention is quickly hijacked by Moore’s wardrobe choices:
“This does not necessarily speak to the content of this episode, but host Phil Moore wears a tremendous sweater in this episode. The pattern is mesmerizing and the cut is ahead of its time,” reads the description for episode four from season one.
"Host Phil Moore wears a shirt so baggy that a sharp gust would send him sailing into the sky. The contestants go inside a video game, where they are required to put on helmets and kneepads so they can safely steal digital bananas from virtual monkeys," says the description for episode seven of the first season.
Things go even further off the rails for the show’s second season, where the descriptions are entirely dedicated to Moore’s shirts and jeans, to the point where the episodes now carry Comedy Bang Bang-esque titles like, “Phil Moore Wears A Gold Shirt” and “Phil Moore Won’t Take Off The Gold Shirt.” All references to the actual show, or the kids ostensibly playing it, are gone; just demands that Moore bring back particular Hawaiian shirts that the writer liked. They are equally hilarious, however.

"Phil? Phil, what happened? The Hawaiian shirt is gone. You've got on this shiny gold number that isn't even tucked in, like you just rolled off your waterbed and onto the Nick Arcade set. Was it something we did? Please bring back the Hawaiian shirt," reads the synopsis for episode four of Season 2.
Each and every one of these is art - a micro-poem - and it would be brilliant to see this person, whether they work for Nickelodeon or Amazon, to write episode descriptions for more things. The anonymous writer’s descriptions/clothing reviews also appear on the show’s iTunes offerings, which suggests that these write-ups came from someone in the Nickelodeon/Viacom corporate structure.
Its also great to see Moore—who’s currently working on a modern revival of the show, titled Battle Arcade—is being good sport about it all:

Marc Summers became a household name in the late ‘80s on Nickelodeon’s ooey, gooey game show for kids, Double Dare. But the charismatic host who beamed on camera as the network’s signature “slime” slid down his suit would rush to remove his clothes as soon as the broadcast ended. Summers, now 66, was suffering from crippling Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a condition he hadn’t even heard of until he was diagnosed live on his own Lifetime talk show in 1995.

Going public put his career on hold — until the Food Network took a chance on him in 2001, tapping him to host its longest running program to date, Unwrapped.
“Most people weren’t aware what OCD was back in the late ‘90s,” he tells PEOPLE. “I was supposed to be hosting Hollywood Squares and then lost the job because people didn’t understand what Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was, and they were spreading rumors that I was difficult to work with and uncooperative, none of which was true. But people were not given the tools to learn what it was.”

He made it his mission to raise awareness and points to Howie Mandel, the Deal or No Deal host who’s open about his own OCD and germaphobia today: “I think in many ways, I was a pioneer.”
Still, Summers says compulsions — he’d clean his home incessantly, lie on the living room floor straightening the fringe of a rug and get stuck at the grocery store reading the label of every product lining the aisles — gave him focus and drive.
“I’ve had kind of a charmed existence,” he says.
Summers also worked as a magician, comedian (he rubbed elbows with Robin Williams at LA’s famed Comedy Store in the ‘70s) and TV producer (Ryan Seacrest and Guy Fieri consider him a mentor). But as he says in the new documentary about his life, On Your Marc, “I’ve always thought of myself of being a player on AAA baseball and never quite making the big leagues.”
As Fieri — who affectionately calls him “Obi Wan” — put it, ““The life of Marc Summers, well, it should be a ride at an amusement park, because it’s got every twist and turn you can imagine.”

Growing up in Indiana, Summers says he “always wanted to do theater and got side-tracked along the way.” Two harrowing ordeals prompted him to pursue that passion. In 2009, he felt pain in his stomach and underwent a surgery that removed 17.5 inches of his small intestine.
“I woke up and, being a stand-up comic, I sort of joked with the doctor, ‘Do I have cancer?’ And he says, ‘As a matter of fact, you do,’” Summers recalls. He was misdiagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma and told he had six months to live. Another oncologist determined the father of two was actually battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and he began two years of grueling chemotherapy with his wife of 43 years, Alice — a Natalie Wood lookalike whom he met while working as an usher at The Mary Tyler Moore Show — by his side.
He’s now in remission, but for the four months until he was correctly diagnosed, the conflicting medical opinions made Summers and his family — wife Alice, 65, son Matthew, 37, and daughter, Meredith, 34 — think he was dying.
“The whole story about your life flashes in front of you. I called Alice from the cab, and I said, ‘I’m not going to see the kids get married. I’m not going to see our grandchildren. I’m going to be dead,’” he says. “I was a mess. I was confused. I didn’t know what the hell was going on.”
Then, in 2012, he broke every bone in his face when his taxi hydroplaned, crashing into a Philadelphia highway divider. He didn’t leave his house for months and suffered memory loss: He remembers giving a tourist wrong directions to Independence Hall, a landmark in the city he calls home, and reintroducing himself in a meeting to a TV executive he’d known for 20 years.
“My biggest fear was the fact that when I went to host another show, would I be able to retain, memory-wise?” he says.

It took nine months to a year for Summers to fully recover. “It was really frightening,” he says, and forced him to realize, “there’s no time like the present.”
Working his Broadway connections, Summers developed an autobiographical one-man play back in Indiana; the documentary chronicles its development, a chapter in Summers’ career that is both a reinvention and return to his roots.
Soon, he’s executive-producing a new Food Network program with Fieri. And after three years of cognitive therapy, Summers says his OCD is “80 percent cured,” adding, “It’s like retraining your mind not to have the intrusive thoughts and not to do the repetitive actions.”
As for all that slime? Nickelodeon’s top-secret, original recipe isn’t so gross, after all: vanilla pudding, apple sauce and green food dye.
“The insurance company made us guarantee if any of this got in the kids’ mouths it was edible,” he explains with a laugh. “And it tasted good, and it smelled great.”

If you’re an ’80s or ’90s Nick Kid, you recognize Marc Summers as the host of Nickelodeon’s iconic game show Double Dare. If your kitchen is your happy place, you know him from Food Network’s Unwrapped. But his new documentary offers a raw, real and endlessly entertaining look at his more than three decades in show business.

On Your Marc captures Summers behind-the-scenes as he creates his 2016 one-man play, The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers. Ever the showman, Summers is currently touring the United States, creating one-of-a-kind experiences for audiences who watch his screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse. (He’ll be in Brooklyn on Thursday before heading to Philadelphia, Austin, Baltimore and Chicago.)
“I always wanted to do theater and got side-tracked along the way. In the entertainment industry, you have no control of your own life. Other people make decisions for you,” Summers, 65, tells PEOPLE.
For the Indiana native, that meant becoming a magician first, then a comic — he performed at The Comedy Store in the 1970s, working alongside stars like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Robin Williams — before landing Double Dare in 1986.
“I came out of the womb knowing exactly what I wanted to do. I’m one of the few people who had a passion from a very young age,” says Summers, who soaked in every minute of classics like The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Ed Sullivan Show.
“I would watch these things and live vicariously through them and say, how do I do that? How do I get on stage?” he says. “And then I found Bob Barker doing game shows, and I thought, well, I don’t know if I can act, but I know I can be myself. And so through the magic and the standup, I got to know my voice.”
Why return to theater? After breaking every bone in his face during a 2012 car accident and being diagnosed with cancer seven years ago (he’s now in remission), he realized there’s “no time like the present” to follow your dream.
As for the tour, “I’ve never done anything terribly normal, and it’s attributed to show business,” Summers says. “We started to be a little renegade. … We thought, well, let’s bring Double Dare to the people.”
Attendees can participate in live physical challenges — and, yes, even get slimed!
“It sort of kicks back to the old vaudeville days, where you see a movie and then there’s a live stage show,” Summers says.
What is the infamous green liquid that’s been dumped on the heads of every tween/teen celebrity imaginable?
Though Summers says there have been “a million revivals,” he dilvulged the secret to Nickelodeon’s surprisingly simple original recipe: vanilla pudding, apple sauce and green food coloring.

You’ll have to see On Your Marc — which features cameos by his celebrity friends Guy Fieri, Ryan Seacrest and Neil Patrick Harris — to learn more about Summers’ incredible life. But there’s one thing he hopes every viewer takes away from his movie.
“That everybody’s got a great story,” he says. “That you probably could have a fantastic one-person show if you walk down the street — be it Los Angeles, Indianapolis; Indiana; Toledo, Ohio or New York City. I was fortunate enough to meet the right people and get this thing done. And I always like to say, just because you’re in show business doesn’t make you special. … God knows, there are many people who don’t know who Marc Summers is, and the one thing I asked is that people walk away with something positive. And the one thing I think I’ve been overcome is the word ‘no.'”

"On Your Marc" is a Look at Summers' One Man Show "The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers"
Beverly Hills, CA --(SPW)-- Iconic TV personality Marc Summers will host a “Sneak Preview Tour” of an intimate documentary film entitled “On Your Marc,” based on his 2016 one man play “The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers,” during October 2017. Summers will present the film in person across the USA in select venues, with many of those appearances coupled with an array of singular events, including performances by local bands, Q&As with special guests, celebrity hosts, interactive “Double Dare” style games, and various star singers. Stars Neil Patrick Harris, Ryan Seacrest, and Guy Fieri make special guest appearances in the film.
During a remarkable career in show business, Marc Summers has hosted, or co-hosted, over 25 television series, having appeared on everything from ABC to Nickelodeon, CBS to Food Network, and Lifetime to FOX. During a multi-faceted career, Summers concurrently became a pop-culture icon, most notably tied into his longtime gig as the host of the hugely popular Nickelodeon TV series “Double Dare.” He also served as the host of Food Network’s long-running “Unwrapped.” In addition, Summers established himself as a producer of popular and successful reality TV series, as well as a businessman, author of a self-help book, and a stand-up comic. The documentary combines a scrappy, “anything goes” appeal with an informative look at the nature of celebrity. Along the way, Summers reveals how he survived cancer, a recent, near-fatal car crash, and a crippling case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

THE GENESIS OF “THE LIFE AND SLIMES OF MARC SUMMERS”
In 2012, Marc Summers decided to “tip his toes back into the waters” of acting in live theatre, and performed for a short time in the role of “Vince Fontaine” in a Long Beach Island (NJ) production of “Grease.” During the show’s run, Marc became good friends with fellow co-star Drew Gasparini, who in turn introduced him to Alex Brightman (now starring in “School of Rock: The Musical” on Broadway.)
The three men became close friends, and for the next two years, Gasparini and Brightman would meet with Marc Summers for countless meals, during which time they would tape record his reminiscences from throughout his life. Marc revealed to them both the funny, offbeat and fortuitous circumstances behind his successful TV career, as well as many deeply personal issues which he’s had to overcome during the past several years.
Following the success of Gasparini/Brightman’s co-written play “Make Me Bad,” which had been performed in Bloomington, IN, Producing Artistic Director Chad Rabinovitz learned that the two men were working with Marc Summers. Rabinovitz bought the proposed new collaborative play from Summers/Gasparini/Brightman sight unseen. Thus, “The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers” was conceived. The new play was first presented on April Fools Day - April 1, 2016 - in Bloomington, IN, at the Bloomington Playwrights Project.

In the history of the television medium, very few people can lay claim to having hosted over two dozen TV shows. Marc Summers, truly an entertainment industry "Renaissance Man", can state that lofty achievement as fact. TV shows hosted or co-hosted by Marc have criss-crossed both broadcast and cable TV networks - he's appeared on everything from ABC to Nickelodeon, from CBS to Food Network, and from Lifetime to FOX.

Both shows were hosted by internationally renowned Chef Robert Irvine.
A native of Indianapolis, Marc moved to Los Angeles during the golden era of stand-up comedy. Appearing at such LA landmarks as The Comedy Store and The Improv, he stood shoulder to shoulder during his stand up years, sharing stages with such future legends as David Letterman, Jay Leno and Robin Williams.
His popularity on the comedy circuit would lead him to his next pursuit: hosting a TV game show. Marc credits TV personality Bob Barker and “The Price is Right” for helping establish this new career direction. During the early 1980s, March was a much in-demand “warm up” comic, performing his material in front of live studio audiences prior to tapings of sitcoms and talk shows including “Hour Magazine,” “What’s Happening Now,” “Webster,” “Star Search,” “Alice,” and “SOAP.”
Marc’s career shot into high gear in 1986, when Nickelodeon hired him as the host of “Double Dare.” That show became so successful, it helped firmly establish both Marc as a popular TV personality, as well as the newly formed network itself. “Double Dare” was syndicated within two years, and even enjoyed a brief broadcast network run on FOX in primetime, as “Nickelodeon’s Family Double Dare” in 1988.
Concurrent with, and following, the tremendous run of “Double Dare,” Marc became a familiar presence on the TV screen with countless celebrity guest appearances on such shows as “Scrabble,” “”Super Password,” “Lingo,” “Win, Lose or Draw,” and “The Hollywood Squares,” and later, ‘Couch Potatoes,” “What Would You Do?” and ABC’s “Home Show,” to name only some.
Marc was also the longtime host of Food Network's "Unwrapped," the longest running series in the history of that channel. "Unwrapped," which also ran on Cooking Channel, was a program that each week uncovers behind-the-scenes details on classic American food, from peanut butter and chocolate syrup to French fries and bubblegum. "Unwrapped" enjoyed a very successful 15-year run.
In recent years, Marc has firmly established himself as something of an icon within American pop culture: He's appeared in a music video by the band Good Charlotte for their song "Last Night," which used "Family Double Dare" as the motif for the video; as a voice over actor, he has played himself on "The Cleveland Show," "Robot Chicken," and "Sanjay & Craig," and continues appearing on such popular talk shows as "The View," "The Chew," the "Howard Stern Radio Show," and many others.
Marc Summers Productions is based in Philadelphia and Los Angeles -- Marc regularly splits his time between those two cities. He is on the Board of Directors of Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity which fights against childhood cancer. He and his wife, Alice, have two children: Matthew, who is the Executive Producer of Food Network’s popular “Cutthroat Kitchen” series, and Meredith, who tours the U.S. as a singer and performance artist, as well as a Grandson.

Marc Summers was a staple of many kids who grew up in the '80s and '90s. Host of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare and What Would You Do?, he was Bob Barker for preteens across the country, all wishing they could appear on his show, answer trivia questions, engage in crazy hijinks and (if they were lucky) get a bucket of bright green slime dumped on their heads.
Nowadays, Summers is the host of Unwrapped on the Food Network, continuing his legacy as being one of the great TV personalities in the medium’s history. Mathew Klickstein’s touching, poignant documentary On Your Marc is the story of the legendary host’s rise to fame. For those wondering “why the heck would I want to watch a doc about a game show host’s life?” the answer is fairly complex. Aside from his accomplishments in filmed entertainment, Marc Summers has battled crippling OCD – an ironic twist in the tale of a dude who was once known as “the messiest man on television.” On Your Marc takes the audience behind the scenes, and allows them to enjoy both the triumphs and tragedies of Summers’ days in the spotlight, highlighting a disorder in its naked, troubling truth.
Birth.Movies.Death. will host a special screening of On Your Marc in Austin, Texas which will be simulcast into several theaters across the United States. Always one to put on a show, Summers will be performing a Q&A, which will include a live band (featuring the original composer/performer of the Double Dare music), along with trivia for courageous audience members who could end up living out their middle school dream of getting “slimed” should their knowledge not be up to snuff.

Double Dare’s Marc Summers rose to success by repeatedly living his own personal nightmare

It turns out that Marc Summers, the host of Nickelodeon’s iconic Double Dare game show, was way more complicated than the slime-covered goofball as portrayed onscreen. As many know, the whole time he was running around with hundreds of slippery, messy kids, narrowly avoiding having all sorts of whatever poured on his head every day, he was also struggling with an obsessive-compulsive disorder that made the job a painful ordeal. The disorder would later be blamed for stalling his career and even seeing him fired productions as he tried to make a comeback in his post-Nickelodeon days.
The new documentary On Your Marc dives deep into the behind-the-scenes story of the pop culture figure and, on Sunday 8th October 2017, Alamo Drafthouse and Spaceland Presents are staging a special preview screening, with Summers himself on hand at The Regent Theater for a Q-and-A. Tickets are on sale now for $15.00.
