Bill Burnett Releases 'ChalkZone SONGSTASH' Album

Bill Burnett, the co-creator of ChalkZone - and who is credited with giving Butch Hartman the title Fairly OddParents for his animated series - recently released Bill Burnett's ChalkZone SONGSTASH, a brand new digital album featuring "a secret stash of ChalkZone related songs" from Nickelodeon's popular noughties animated series! The album is available to purchase today on Bandcamp.

"ChalkZone fans, here's me, ChalkZone's creator, presenting a whole slew of ChalkZone songs like you've never heard them before!," reads the synopsis. "Obscure alternate versions, demos, behind-the-scenes recordings and a complete set of liner notes straight from me to you. You're gonna want to purchase this!".

The album also features animation director John Fountain, who worked on Nicktoons such as Fairly OddParents, My Life As a Teenage Robot and Invader ZIM, who performs and curates alternative versions of various ChalkZone music! 

The album's cover art is designed by Espen Knight with illustration by Carlos Ramos.

Created by Bill Burnett and Larry Huber for Nickelodeon, ChalkZone originally aired as part of Fred Seibert's Oh Yeah! Cartoons animated shorts showcase in 1998. The series ran on Nickelodeon USA from March 22, 2002 through August 23, 2008, with 40 episodes in total. It was produced by Frederator Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studio. ChalkZone starred voice artists E. G. Daily, Hynden Walch, Candi Milo, Robert Cait, Jess Harnell, Miriam Flynn, Rodger Bumpass, Jim Cummings, Rosslynn Taylor and Rob Paulsen.

Peter Bennett, A Long-Time Art Director on 'SpongeBob SquarePants', Passes Away

Peter Bennett, a long-time art director on Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants franchise, sadly passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, aged 57.

Peter was born on 19 July 1967 in San Pedro, California, and was best known for being one of the main background painters in the series, throughout 182 episodes total between 1999 and 2014, as well as being the hand actor for the character Hans after "Suds" (although his voice is provided by Tom Kenny).

Along with this, he was also known for being one of the main art directors for 161 episodes between 2005 and 2021, some including "Squeaky Boots," "SB-129," "Hooky," and "Wet Painters," among many others. His acrylic paintings are immediately recognizable for long-time viewers of the show; they are mainly used for backgrounds, promotional materials, and especially detailed close-up shots.

He has also provided art direction for the show ChalkZone, the first two SpongeBob movies, and spin-offs Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years and The Patrick Star Show, as well as artwork for SpongeBob Comics, Nautical Nonsense: A Tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants, and San Diego Comic-Con 2016.

News of Peter's passing was announced by SpongeBob writer Kenny Pittenger on Instagram. In his post, Kenny paid tribute to his long-time friend and coworker, saying: "We lost a long-time friend & coworker last night. Peter Bennett was the Art Director on SpongeBob for many years and a heck of a ping-pong player. This is one of his paintings. He will be missed."

Fellow SpongeBob background artist Amy Lewis also paid tribute to Peter on X, saying: "In memory of our long time Art Director on SpongeBob Squarepants, Peter Bennett 💔😪

Wonderful paintings by Peter. What a huge loss. I'm just so grateful to have had the privilege to work with him. I'll never forget the day I met him. Rest in peace, Peter x #SpongeBobSquarePants".

Paramount+ Adds 'ChalkZone' Back to Programming Library

Paramount+ finds the chalk of Chalk-Chalk-ChalkZone!

Update (8/4) - After being unavailable for a few days, ChalkZone is back on Paramount+!

Paramount+ recently removed all episodes of Nickelodeon's popular animated series ChalkZone from its programming library.

At the moment it's currently unknown why the series was removed from the platform, however, it is being speculated that the show's removal could be due to a licensing issue.

ChalkZone was created by Bill Burnett and Larry Huber and initially debuted as part of Oh Yeah! Cartoons. The full series premiered on March 22nd, 2002 and ran for 40 episodes over four seasons.

E.G. Daily (Elizabeth Daily) is well known for her portrayal of Tommy Pickles in Rugrats, in the 1991 series, the movies, video games, and the new 2021 series. She is also known for her roles as Buttercup in The Powerpuff Girls, Dottie in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Baby Mumble in Happy Feet, and Babe in Babe: Pig in the City. 'Lost' ChalkZone Opening Has Been Found

ChalkZone, the classic Nickelodeon cartoon, had a few different openings over the years. One of them in particular was found in the 1999 sneak peak/pilot, which hasn't really been discovered until now. Paramount Plus released the whole catalog of ChalkZone episodes, along with this lost opening!

Rudy Tabootie's adventures in ChalkZone aren't talked about as much, but it still goes down as a worthwhile Nicktoon that deserves more attention! Even those not familiar with the show have probably heard the incredible theme song, and it's interesting to see this alternate opening.

NickRewind to Have Major Schedule Overhaul on Monday, February 15

NickRewind, Nickelodeon's destination for the most loved Nick content from the 1990s and beyond is set to have one of its biggest schedule overhauls in years, which will bring more Nicktoons, including many which have been on an extended hiatus on the Nickelodeon network!

The Nick shows making a long-overdue return are CatDog, The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power, Angry Beavers, The Mighty B!, As Told By Ginger, ChalkZone and AAAHH!!! Real Monsters.

The endless pixelated adventures of dynamic duo Moose and Catbox as they repeatedly save Princess Burger from the tentacled clutches of the evil Dr. Hipster in Moosebox, another one of Nickelodeon's PAWsome Animated Shorts, created by Mike Scott for the 2013-14 edition of the world-renowned Nickelodeon International Animated Shorts Program! On this day 17 years ago, ChalkZone premiered on Nickelodeon! Who else drew characters on a chalkboard like Rudy?

ChalkZone was created by Bill Burnett and Larry Huber and initially debuted as part of Oh Yeah! Cartoons. The full series premiered on March 22nd, 2002 and ran for 40 episodes over four seasons.

A very earnest Mr. Rogers-like Pig believes it's his duty to teach others in the woods valuable life lessons. His trusty flying friend, Blanket, helps but doesn't always agree with Pig.

Pig and a Blanket was selected as a finalist in the 2015 edition of Nickelodeon's world renowned Animated Shorts Program, and features the voices of: Drew Massey (Mutt & Stuff, All That, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Robot Chicken, Malcolm in the Middle, Men in Black) as Pig and Hynden Walch (ChalkZone, Catscratch, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Winx Club, Adventure Time) as Woodwitch.

Screener TV Listings is reporting the exciting news that The Splat, Nickelodeon's destination for the most loved Nick content from the 1990s and beyond, will be airing a super selection of Oh Yeah! Cartoons episodes on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 2016 at 11:00pm ET/PT (encored at 4:00am and 4:30am)!

Oh Yeah! Cartoons is an animation showcase that is credited with catapulting Timmy and his fairy godparents, Rudy Tabootie, Jenny and more into the Nickelodeon stratosphere. Created and guided by Fred Seibert, former Creative Director of MTV Networks and President of Hanna-Barbera, and produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and Frederator Incorporated, each episode featured several animated shorts, including The Fairly OddParents, Chalkzone, and My Life As A Teenage Robot. The series was hosted by Kenan Thompson (All That, Kenan & Kel, Good Burger), then later by Josh Server, also from All That, for its third season. The series ran between July 17, 1998 – May 25, 2001 as part of Nickelodeon's Nicktoons lineup. The shows theme tune music was composed by Bill Burnett.
