Toca Boca, Spin Master’s award-winning Swedish game development studio that makes digital games from the kid’s perspective, is thrilled to announce a new content partnership under license from Paramount Consumer Products and Nickelodeon which offers kids a ground-breaking way to experience the SpongeBob SquarePants universe. On June 13th, a Toca Boca x SpongeBob SquarePants content partnership will be introduced to Toca Life World’s vibrant community, with the launch of the SpongeBob SquarePants Furniture Pack and Gift Event.
Update (7/23) - The SpongeBob SquarePants gifts will be available until the end of the year (January 1, 2024, to be exact) in the Post Office!
The SpongeBob SquarePants Furniture Pack is filled with home decoration items from SpongeBob SquarePants, Squidward, and Patrick Star for players to mix and match to create their own Bikini Bottom in Toca Life World. The pack includes 87 distinct furniture pieces, along with a variety of decorations, unique wall designs, and versatile floor patterns, providing endless possibilities for imaginative and immersive play.
The time-limited Furniture Pack will be available in the in-app shop beginning June 13. In addition to this, a free Gift Event will run from June 13 to June 18, 2023, that includes surprising outfits, items and pets. All gifts are claimable until August 18, 2023.
Toca Boca is a trailblazer when it comes to user-generated content, with over 2 billion views generated by fans on social media every month. The SpongeBob SquarePants integration presents a unique opportunity for engagement.
“Kids today don’t just want to consume; they want to create. The campaign concept, “Bikini Bottom like you’ve never seen it before”, embraces the over-the-top optimism and outrageous humor that both Toca Boca and SpongeBob SquarePants audiences love. The content encourages kids to mix and match elements from the SpongeBob universe, creating and sharing their unique stories.
Update (8/17) - From Spin Master's Q2 2023 earnings report (via Seeking Alpha):
"Finally, within digital games, total revenue increased slightly over 2022, driven by higher in app purchases in Toca Life World. This is the first year-over-year quarterly increase we've seen in digital games since Q2 of last year. This was driven by new content releases, including the launch of our second license theme pack, the SpongeBob and higher engagement with monthly active users up 3% year-over-year to 58 million. We now have 76 million monthly active users across the Toca Boca ecosystem. We think the fan community within Toca will be super excited with Toca Days our first 3D player multi-game, which is currently in soft launch.
Toka Days will allow the opportunity for open ended play and creativity coupled with the ability for social interactions between players. Players sentiment so far has been high. Based on the initial feedback and learnings, the team is making continuous improvements to ready for a full go live in 2024."
