May 13, 2024 - Paramount+ today debuted the official trailer and key art for the upcoming original South Korean psychological thriller series PYRAMID GAME. All 10 episodes will premiere on Thursday, May 30 on Paramount+ in the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
In PYRAMID GAME, Seong Su-ji is a new student at the Baekyeon Girls’ High School. Between the bullies, her studies, and the fight for popularity, high school already feels like a game of survival for Su-ji. But when she’s introduced to a ranking system that chooses class outcasts via secret vote, Su-ji must decide whether to accept her status and its violent fallout or lead an uprising against the Pyramid Game.
PYRAMID GAME stars actors Kim Jiyeon (Twenty-Five Twenty-One), Jang Da A, RYU DA IN, Shin Seul Ki and Kang Na Eon. The series is directed by Bak So Yeon (The Heavenly Idol) and written by Choi Sui.
Following the critically acclaimed BARGAIN and A BLOODY LUCKY DAY, PYRAMID GAME is the next project developed by Paramount+ and TVING through a partnership between Paramount and the leading entertainment company CJ ENM. Nickelodeon has reportedly acquired the rights to adapt the hit 5 Worlds middle-grade graphic novel series!
The news was revealed by Kane Lee (The Tiger’s Apprentice), the Chief Content Officer of Baobab Studios, who is serving as a producer on the project for Nickelodeon.
The status of the project, and whether it'll be a movie or TV series, is currently unknown. Since the news was revealed in 2023, a lot of changes have been happening behind-the-scenes at Paramount Global, with the company cutting projects to focus on producing new content that appeals to a audience, with several Nickelodeon titles canceled.
Described as "Star Wars meets Avatar: The Last Airbender", in the 5 Worlds, the Five Worlds are on the brink of extinction unless five ancient and mysterious beacons are lit. When war erupts, three unlikely heroes discover there’s more to themselves—and more to their worlds—than meets the eye..
• Oona Lee, the clumsiest student at the Sand Dancer Academy, is a fighter with a destiny bigger than she could ever imagine.
• An Tzu, a boy from the poorest slums, has a surprising gift and a knack for getting out of sticky situations.
• Jax Amboy is the star athlete who is beloved by an entire galaxy, but what good is that when he has no real friends?

First published in 2017, the 5 Worlds graphic novel series is comprised of five titles: The Sand Warrior, The Cobalt Prince, The Red Maze, The Amber Anthem, and The Sand Warrior. The series is written by authors Mark Siegel and Alexis Siegel, and feature illustrations by Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller, and Boya Sun.
