SpongeBob Gets A Spooky Junji Ito Crossover

For over 20 years, Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants has been a major animated icon, and while Bikini Bottom has had some Halloween specials in the past, the Krusty Krab fry cook has just experienced one of his strangest crossovers to date thanks to the show's official Twitter account. With Junji Ito remaining a major horror artist in the manga medium, and two upcoming anime adaptations already confirmed, everyone's favorite sponge has received a makeover that makes him look far scarier than any time we've seen him in the past.


SpongeBob SquarePants first hit the scene in 1999, slowly rising in popularity to become one of the biggest properties in Nickelodeon's history. With hundreds of episodes and a handful of feature-length films and spin-offs under its belt, the story of SpongeBob SquarePants has continued for decades, introducing us to the undersea denizens of Bikini Bottom such as SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward, and countless others. Over the years, fans online have taken the opportunity to imagine what the fry cook might have looked like if he emerged from Japan rather than North America, and last year Nickelodeon released a short animated film that reimagined SpongeBob as a Chibi Anime.

The Official SpongeBob SquarePants Twitter Account shared a disturbing new visual for SpongeBob, merging the sponge with the grotesque imagery of Junji Ito that first emerged from Uzumaki, the story that saw a town that was obsessed with spirals and found themselves cursed in countless terrifying ways:

Junji Ito has spent decades creating unique manga and is showing no signs of stopping any time soon, with two upcoming anime adaptations set to arrive via Adult Swim and Netflix. Junji Ito's Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre will be an anthology series arriving on the streaming service, including stories such as The Hanging Balloons, Where The Sandman Dwells, Tomie, and many others. Toonami's Uzumaki has been touted by anime fans as looking the closest to Ito's artwork though the series has been delayed indefinitely thanks in part to the COVID pandemic.

Nickelodeon India Partners With Smile Foundation to Celebrate Motu Patlu’s 10th Birthday in Mumbai

Kids from the NGO Smile Foundation were joined by iconic duo Motu Patlu who enthralled them with loads of fun, food, and laughter

The birthday bash featured a pyramid made of 2000 samosas, which are the toons’ favorite snack


In a decade, Motu Patlu, India’s most-loved kids entertainment show, has created an indelible mark in the hearts and screens of every household.  Inspired by the famous characters in Lotpot Comics, Motu Patlu are the awesome twosome of Nickelodeon. Being the first-ever Indian animated characters to have statues at Madame Tussauds, their popularity has been simply spectacular.

Today, Motu Patlu enthrall kids with their hilarious antics and rib-tickling adventures across OTT platforms, games, and wide range of consumer products. Celebrating the ten years of every Indian household’s favorite duo, Nickelodeon – the leading kids’ entertainment franchise has gone all out to celebrate Motu Patlu’s 10th birthday. Smile Foundation, India’s most trusted NGO for underprivileged kids, joined to duo to celebrate their special day.

The birthday bash was an absolute riot of fun and games. Straight out of the television screens, Motu and Patlu engaged with the young kids with their silly antics while clicking a lot of selfies. The event witnessed Motu Patlu and the kids shaking a leg on the title track while some others also showcased their recitation skills. Making the day special was everyone and Motu Patlu’s favourite snack – Samosas! And because it was for their 10th birthday, the celebrations were taken to a whole new level. The highlight of the event was a gigantic pyramid, made of over 1000 samosas, which the kids and the volunteers totally gorged on along with loads of cake.


Mr. John Thattil, Vice President, Sustainability and Resources said, “We are happy that the children from this school Smile supports (SHED Primary School), have the opportunity to fulfil their dream of meeting Motu and Patlu and be a part of this milestone celebration. The show, thanks to Nickelodeon, has brought a smile on many a children’s face in the past 10 years. To add to it the parents and adults watching the show along with their children, also were able to Smile and forget their troubles for some time. Each episode of show, while being entertaining always had a very relevant message which was well received by the children.

Take That, Tater! | 'Monster High' Sneak Peek | Nickelodeon

Monster High (26 episodes) follows Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein and Deuce Gorgon, as they discover who they are, embrace their differences, and learn to be fierce and fearless at the one place they all belong: Monster High. In the Monster High sneak peek episode, "Food Fight," Draculaura practices witchcraft, and Clawdeen and Frankie must help her subdue the tater tot she brought to life.
