Nick Jr. Latin America to Premiere New 'Suena Familiar', A New Digital Series for Parents, on Friday, August 7

Nick Jr. Latin America (Latinoamérica) has announced the premiere of Suena Familiar (60 x 3-6 minute episodes), a brand new new short-form digital comedy series aimed at parents of preschoolers that gives viewers a comedic escape from COVID-19 (coronavirus). Hosted by three families, the 60 x five-minute sketch comedy tracks the ups and downs of parenting through stories, advice, how-to-videos and jokes.


Produced by ViacomCBS Digital Studios International Americas (VDSI Americas) and presented by Nick Jr., Nickelodeon's top-rated channel for preschoolers, the series will be broadcast on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica's Facebook and Instagram accounts and will premiere this Friday, August 7 at 18:00 in México and Colombia and 20:00 in Argentina with the episode "Manual de Supervivencia" ("Survival Manual"), one of the three topics addressed in the series. Following launch, new episodes will continue to premiere Fridays and Sundays at 18:00 in México and Colombia and at 20:00 in Argentina, and Saturdays at 15:00 in México and Colombia and 17:00 in Argentina.

"Suena Familiar will show the ups and downs of raising children in a fun and very entertaining way,” said Tatiana Rodríguez, SVP/Brand Head, Nickelodeon Latinoamérica. "The show is going to connect with the dads and moms in the region who are raising their children during these times."


The show is hosted by three different families, the Gómez family, the Torres family, and the Campos family. Suena Familiar aims to humorously address the difficulty of parenting, sharing stories and advice through a series of comedic shorts and instructional videos that offer a fun and judgement-free visual experience, where the hosts will give viewers tips, advice and above all a lot of laughs.

"We had a great time producing Suena Familiar," commented Juan Ignacio Sixto, Head of VDSI Americas. “Through a casting, we selected different families, all unique in their own way, with whom parents can identify. Our hope is that Nick Jr.'s parents will find the show fun and refreshing but at the same time be able to connect. ”

The show will feature different segments such as: "Historias de Terror" ("Horror Stories"), a fun version of children's worst nightmares; «Hecho en Casa», a fun segment full of arts and crafts ideas which parents can do with their kids, and "Manual de Supervivencia", where the Suena Familiar hosts recreate their own comic stories of their parenting issues and share their survival tips.


Suena Familiar follows Nick Jr. UK & Ireland launching a similar initiative, Nick Jr. Parents, in April 2019.

Una nueva serie de comedia asoma por la ventana de Nick Jr. Latinoamérica y María Imhof habla en exclusiva sobre este proyecto

Suena familiar’ es una serie de comedia pensada para toda la familia. Se trata de episodios de entre tres y seis minutos en donde se abordan temas comunes de familias comunes. En esta serie la actriz María Imhof da vida a Mariana Torres. Sobre su personaje y la serie habló la actriz en exclusiva para este medio.

"El personaje tenía mi perfil, además yo amo trabajar con niños y soy súper fan de la comedia. Era un poco de todo. Trabajar con un canal de mucho prestigio infantil, trabajar con niños y hacer comedia”, explica la actriz sobre el porqué se inclinó por este proyecto."

‘Suena familiar’ es una serie en donde se presentan a tres familias diferentes: los Gómez, los Torres y los Campos. Estas familias abordan de manera humorística situaciones cotidianas como la maternidad, la paternidad, el cuidado de los hijos y la familia.

En el caso de Mariana Torres, el personaje interpretado por María Imhof, se trata de una abogada que funge como la figura de autoridad en una familia en donde el esposo cuida de los niños y a veces suele ser consentidor con ellos.

"Mariana Torres es una mujer muy chida. Tiene la particularidad que es abogada y es muy consentidora. Pero también es una mujer empoderada que sabe que puede ser buena mamá y buena esposa. Es muy exigente con el orden y la limpieza. Tiene conflictos con su esposo porque su esposo es un poco infantil y se pone blando con los niños y ella tiene que reforzar eso. Con su familia hacen muy buen equipo”, cuenta la actriz."

Todo se trata de hacer un buen equipo, independientemente de la heterogeneidad de las familias. En todo caso, cuenta María, la serie muestra el lado humano de las familias con humor. Además, se tocan temas como las manualidades que se pueden hacer con los niños o consejos sobre la maternidad o la paternidad. Por otro lado, la serie puede navegar muy bien en las redes sociales por su formato.

"Esta serie por ser digital tiene la ventaja de que la gente la puede ver por Instagram o por Facebook. Por ejemplo mañana (hoy) la suben a las seis de la tarde, pero si tú te la perdiste, no importa va a quedar ahí en el sitio para que la veas. Tú la puedes compartir con la gente, la puedes enviar como mensaje privado, pues hacer un montón de cosas que no se podría hacer en una plataforma común y corriente de series”, explica Imhof."

La serie se estrenó este viernes 7 de agosto y hoy viernes 14 a las 18:00 horas inicia una nueva entrega por Facebook e Instagram de Nick Jr. Latinoamérica. Todos los viernes, sábados y domingos se estrenan nuevos capítulos.

Catch The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in Canadian theatres today!

In the U.S., the film will debut digitally via premium video on demand in early 2021 and then move exclusively to CBS All Access. For fans outside North America, the movie will debut on Netflix. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will also stream on Netflix Canada after its theatrical run.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run sees best friends SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star venture out of Bikini Bottom and head to the Lost City of Atlantic City on a rescue mission to save SpongeBob’s trustee snail Gary. Its the third SpongeBob film, after 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Those movies were commercially successful, earning over $450 million globally combined.

In Sponge on the Run, after SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.

Sponge on the Run will see the cast of SpongeBob SquarePants reprise their respective roles: Tom Kenny (SpongeBob and Gary), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Douglas Lawrence (Plankton), Jill Talley (Karen), Mary Jo Catlett (Mrs. Puff), and Lori Alan (Pearl). An actor named Antonio Raul Corbo will be voicing young SpongeBob.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will feature a raft of guest stars, including: Keanu Reeves (as a tumbleweed named Sage), Awkwafina, Reggie Watts and Snoop Dog (as a Zombie Cowboy). Cyndi Lauper (The SpongeBob Musical) has written original songs for the film.

Based on the TV series created by Stephen Hillenburg, The SpongeBob Movie is written and directed by Tim Hill, and produced by Ryan Harris, with Stephen Hillenburg exec producing. Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies present, in association with MRC A United Plankton Pictures production.

SpongeBob Voice Actors Call New Movie 'Sponge on the Run' a Welcome 'Dose of Silly' in Pandemic

It's official: SpongeBob SquarePants is Number #1!

In a 60-day survey of social media, fan ratings and piracy, Parrot Analytics found last month that the beloved animated Nickelodeon series has been the most popular show during the pandemic.

“I think SpongeBob is comfort food for fans,” Tom Kenny, who’s voiced the frenetic fry cook for the past 21 years, told Canada.com. “It’s this go-to place when you just need a dose of silly to take you out of your troubled life and into dumb goofiness, bright colours, crazy music and familiar characters being insane.”

And you can bet your barnacles that the third movie in the franchise will do just as well. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run debuts in Canadian theatres on Friday, August 14, and will subsequently regale fans on Netflix.

As the first all-CGI SpongeBob movie, it’s everything you’d expect and more.

After SpongeBob’s pet snail Gary is kidnapped, our porous pal and his starfish friend Patrick set out for The Lost City of Atlantic City to rescue him. Also, there’s Snoop Dogg as a zombie cowboy! And Keanu Reeves as a tumbleweed spirit guide! And the stories of how all the Bikini Bottom buddies came to be friends!

“One of the things I was regretting over not having the traditional red carpet première is that I won’t be able to talk to Keanu, who filmed his stuff totally separate from us. We never met him,” says Kenny. “Now Snoop, I have worked with and have run into him socially over the years — he’s the greatest. As you might guess, a highly entertaining individual.”

If you keep your eyes peeled, you’ll also catch a bittersweet tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg, who died from ALS complications in 2018. Hillenburg was a marine science educator who, legend has it, started fiddling with the idea of an undersea animated show around 1986.

“Steve knew who these characters were from the beginning, when they was just drawings locked away in his drawer before he ever showed it to anybody. He did so much of his homework that when he showed you these characters, the voice — at least in my case — just came out of me, and he said ‘great.’ That sound never came out of me before. It was almost metaphysical.”

Bill Fagerbakke, who voices Patrick, picks up the story.

“When the rest of us auditioned for the series, we got to hear Tom. Steve said, ‘This is SpongeBoy’ — he was called SpongeBoy at the beginning. I heard Tom’s voice and built on what Tom did as this character. It was unlike anything else I’d ever experienced.”

Hillenburg was involved in the early stages of Sponge on the Run — by that time well past his ALS diagnosis — and gave input where he could.

“Steve continued with the show even after he really started getting hit hard by ALS,” Fagerbakke says. “He would come to every session, literally as long as he was able to, and he would just sit there and smile. And it was so gratifying and enriching to see him there. Every time I do Patrick, I think of him.”

Adds Kenny: “It’s great that this thing he created can go out into the world and help people smile and laugh and act silly, especially now. It’s the greatest legacy that anybody can leave behind.”

Since SpongeBob SquarePants debuted in 1999, the show has won four Emmy Awards, 17 Kids’ Choice Awards, two BAFTA Children’s Awards and has inspired a 2017 Broadway musical. You could argue that Fagerbakke and Kenny themselves have their legacies pretty much set in stone, too. Fans constantly ask them to do SpongeBob and Patrick’s voices, or, perhaps more entertainingly, take it upon themselves to share their own impressions.

“I love it,” says Kenny. “And if they’re too good at it, I get a little nervous to be honest. Like, ‘Don’t do that around any Viacom executives.’”

Both actors have kids, and Fagerbakke says when his daughter was 11, she once tried to hide the fact that her father was, essentially, a giant pink starfish incarnate. Kenny empathizes.

“Initially I think my kids were a little uncomfortable and weirded out by it, but now at 17 and 21, they’ve cycled back into some semblance of pride,” he says.

Two spinoff series related to SpongeBob SquarePants are now in development — Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show.

“The more the merrier, right?” says Fagerbakke. “Someone came up with this idea of a younger Patrick who’s still living with his parents and who loves to have his own talk show in his house with his little sister. But we’ve only done two episodes. We’ll see where it goes, but boy, we’re off to a fun start.”

For now, though, fans have plenty of seabound shenanigans to enjoy with Sponge on the Run and the original show. Says Kenny: “We’re working every day on SpongeBob and a whole bunch of other stuff, which is hugely comforting and useful for me.”

We couldn’t let a chat with SpongeBob’s dynamic duo end without asking the inevitable, digging at the mystery that’s been the centre of the show for 21 years: What’s the secret ingredient in the beloved Krabby Patty burger served up at the Krusty Krab?

“I think they take the essence of poutine,” says Fagerbakke.

See that right there? That’s exactly why SpongeBob is our main squeeze.

Update (8/14) - Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors said during the earnings call of his company that SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has sold more than 1 million units since its launch on June 23rd. While the earnings call was about the quarter ending June 30th, the milestone was hit sometime after that quarter (so in July or August)!

The cult-classic has been faithfully remade in all of its spongetastic splendor! In addition to high-end visuals, modern resolutions and carefully polished gameplay, players can look forward to new content that didn’t make the original game release. With Rehydrated, you can experience coop multiplayer in SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom for the first time. After all, who would SpongeBob be without his best friends?

Just like the original game, Rehydrated features tons of characters and a lot of the irreverent humor from the TV series and upcoming feature film. Every iconic location in the game has multiple segments, a unique vibe, special puzzles and individual story plots, packing in something for every player! Players can play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy, each with unique skills to traverse certain parts of each level – only SpongeBob can use his underpants to bungee jump and only Sandy has a lasso to swing and glide through the gameworld.

In multiplayer mode, two-players can team up in either local couch or online co-op mode to battle the evil Robo-Squidward and all robots from the main game, wave after wave, across more than twenty islands. No, Joey King Hasn't Auditioned for the Role of Katara in Netflix's Live-Action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'

Joey King took to Twitter to nip a rumor in the bud that quickly went viral, revealing that she has not auditioned for the role Katara in Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon's beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender series, after a tweet featuring an unconfirmed rumor that the 21-year-old star of The Kissing Booth and its sequel The Kissing Booth 2 was seen at the casting call.


While it was never confirmed, King not only shut down the rumor, but went so far as to take her Twitter private due to the backlash.

The Netflix series is a live-action version of the animated series of the same name, which aired on Nickelodeon for three seasons from 2005 to 2008.

When the live-action remake was announced, original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko said they would adapt the original animated show with "a culturally-appropriate, non-whitewashed cast." The Last Airbender, the 2010 live-action movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan based on the iconic series was heavily criticized due to the whitewashing of its characters, which is one reason why the tweet about King's involvement as Katara went viral.

Twitter user @MariahHarmonyX posted a screengrab of King's tweet, adding that she, "had to go private because someone made up a rumour about her playing Katara."

"I have 0 involvement in this project and didn’t know this project even existed until I logged onto twitter today and my timeline was floooded with these rumors," King began.

"I do not believe a white woman should play a character of color. Not me or any white woman for that matter," King concluded.

While King did not give a reason for going private on Twitter, it happened shortly after her debunking of the Avatar: The Last Airbender rumor.

The news comes as original Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko revealed on social media that they were leaving the live-action series. While no specifics were given, DiMartino said they both left the project in June, after two years of development.

King is coming off The Kissing Booth 2, which just recently debuted on Netflix, with the actress and the rest of the cast announcing a third movie as well, which has already been filmed.

She also has Camp in post-production, starring alongside Annalise Basson, Nolan Gould and Horatio Sanz.

The 21-year-old actor has also reportedly signed on to play an assassin alongside Brad Pitt in an action-thriller entitled Bullet Train, according to a Deadline report.
