"Rugrats" Artist Eric Molinsky Unveils How He Thinks The Cast Of "Rugrats" Would Look Like All Grown Up

Eric Molinsky, a storyboard artist at Klasky Csupo from 1999 to 2002, has penned a personal essay on Studio 360 about his frustration surrounding how the babies from "Rugrats" are being reimagined as grown-ups.

"It really bugs me", he writes. "Not the quality of the artwork, but the interpretation. We referred to them as lumpy babies for a reason. If we ever drew the "Rugrats" as being too cute, our executive producer would scold us".

"So no. The "Rugrats" did not grow up to be fashion models or self-confident hipsters. Especially not Chuckie. They grew up to be average if not slightly lumpy looking people - just like their parents".

And Eric would know; he worked on the famous "Rugrats" episode "All Growed Up" in 2000, in which the "Rugrats" imagined themselves in junior high.

Here's what Molinsky thinks the crew would look like in 2015:

Tommy looks pretty much exactly like his dad, Stu Pickles:

His baby brother Dil is a terrifying teen:

Chuckie still looks pretty concerned:

Angelica looks like her Mom's twin, business suit and all:

Susie also grew up to be all business, which isn't super shocking, to be honest:

Phil got a really unfortunate tattoo:

Lil is still trying to make the pink bow work:

And Kimi is still rocking the spiked hair:

As well as "Rugrats", Eric also drew "The Wild Thornberrys", "Rocket Power" and "As Told By Ginger".

Eric also gave a fascinating insight at the storyboard process worked during the "analog era" at Klasky Csupo: "In our analog era, we'd get the script and a cassette tape of all the voices, already recorded. We'd imagine it playing out as a TV show, and draw every camera angle, every acting pose. Then the storyboards were shipped to Korea, where the animators blew them up on a Xerox machine, drew the animation based on our storyboards, and shipped the color footage back to us on videotape three months later. My favorite episode that I worked on was "Cat Got Your Tongue," when Phil and Lil thought their Father's laryngitis was caused by Angelica's cat literally stealing his tongue (a salmon roll at a cocktail party.)"

Nickelodeon recently confirmed that a "Rugrats" revival is a very strong possibility! Fans in the USA can watch "Rugrats" on The Splat.
