Viacom Strengthens Presence in Europe & Africa

Viacom International Media Networks Southern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa (VIMN SWEMEA) has announced a string of deals, covering linear, SVOD and multi platform distribution in Europe and Africa!

VIMN launched the MTV Play VOD mobile app in Germany and Austria. SVOD carriers Showmax and iflix will carry multiple VIMN brands in sub-Saharan Africa. MTV and Nick Jr. España were launched on Orange in Spain. And MTV launched the first ever fully localised MTV Snapchat Discover channel in France.

“I am very pleased to be confirming these deals across the cluster," said Raffaele Annecchino, President and Managing Director (MD) of VIMN SWEMEA,.

“Our strategies vary market by market based on the opportunities available and we remain flexible and committed to working with the best affiliates in each region. This month, we’ve closed deals for linear and non-linear distribution for multiple brands in our portfolio across a range of countries and platforms. I am proud of our success and I look forward to announcing additional agreements shortly."

On Thursday 27th July 2017, VIMN launched their PlayPlex mobile app, MTV Play, in Germany and Austria. The new service replaces MTV’s previous app with the MTV brand of the company’s international VOD service, PlayPlex. Offering users access to a wide variety of content including MTV shows, the PlayPlex suite of mobile apps work across IOS and Android systems, and can feature live streams of Viacom’s branded TV channels, as well as a library of VOD content. There have been more than 20 million global downloads of PlayPlex apps to date and over 390 million streams. The app launch is the latest milestone in several months of success for the cluster.

In Africa, VIMN announced the signing of SVOD contracts that include multiple brands within the media company’s portfolio and will cover sub-Saharan Africa. An existing 2015 agreement with Showmax has been expanded to include 500 hours of Nickelodeon content, including such series as PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants, in addition to 150 hours of new international and local content from other VIMN Brands, including MTV Base’s MTV Base Meets… and MTV Shuga; Comedy Central’s South Park, Key & Peele and Roast Battle Africa; and BET’s Being Mary Jane and Real Husbands of Hollywood.

VIMN also signed a deal with iflix, who confirmed their expansion into Africa this June. IFLIX will carry content from numerous VIMN brands like Nickelodeon (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, iCarly), Comedy Central (Broad City, Comedy Central Presents… Live at Parkers), MTV (Pimp My Ride, Awkward), VH1 (The Fabulous Live Of…), MTV Base (Behind the Story…) and BET (Nellyville, Punk’d).

In Spain, VIMN brands MTV and Nick Jr. launched on Orange in June. The carrier reaches 507,000 TV viewers in Spain who will now have access to the best in youth and music content on MTV, including scripted shows like MTV Super Shore as well AS festivals, concerts and live musical performances from top artists around the world. The deal also expands Orange’s offer to include VIMN’s family-friendly preschool brand Nick Jr., anchored by hit shows such as Paw Patrol (La Patrulla Canina), Dora the Explorer (Dora la Exploradora) and Nella the Princess Knight (Nella, Una Princesa Valiente).

VIMN announced their latest partnership with Snapchat in France where they launched the first fully localised MTV Discover channel outside the United States (MTV already maintains domestic and international Discover channels on Snapchat). Snapchat’s Discover feature lets accounts share stories and content from a branded editorial perspective on the popular social media platform. The French version features some international content dubbed in French, strengthened by a localised editorial offering designed specifically for French audiences and produced in France. The MTV Discover channel went live on Friday 30th June 2017.

Broadway Stars Set To Guest Star On Nickelodeon's New Preschool Series "Sunny Day"

Tony Award winners Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Younger) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) are among Broadway guest luminaries who are lending their voices to the inaugural season of Sunny Day, Nickelodeon's brand-new animated preschool series that stars Lilla Crawford!

Crawford played Little Red Riding Hood in the 2014 film adaptation of Into the Woods, and the title role in the 2012 Broadway revival of Annie. The actor has also been announced as one of the stars of Netflix’s The Who Was? Show.

Sunny Day is a brand-new musical, comedy series that features a 10-year-old master hairstylist and salon-owning entrepreneur named Sunny (Crawford). With the help of her best friends, Blair (Taylor Louderman, Kinky Boots), Rox (Elan Luz Rivera), and her adorable pup, Doodle (Rob Morrison, Peg+Cat), Sunny can solve any problem that arises in her seaside town of Friendly Falls through determination, self-expression, and a positive attitude. Above all, Sunny always uses her styling skills in creative ways to be a true leader and inspires individuality in every preschooler. When adventure calls, Sunny sets out to save the day with her can-do attitude, tricked out Glam Van, best friends Rox and Blair, and Doodle by her side! The characters in the series celebrate individuality and self-expression, while the show's social-emotional curriculum promotes leadership, innovative thinking and teamwork. Rounding out the voice cast is Melissa van der Schyff (Bonnie and Clyde, Big River) as Cindy, Kevin Duda (Beautiful) as Timmy, Josh Ruben (Pokémon) as Scratch, Dave Droxler as Squirrel

Aimed at preschoolers, Sunny Day bows Monday 21st August 2017 at 10:00am ET/PT on Nickelodeon USA, and will roll out on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels worldwide soon after. Sunny Day will also be seen on Treehouse TV in Canada starting at a date to be announced this fall. The show is based on Abie Longstaff’s children’s book series The Fairytale Hairdresser, illustrated by Lauren Beard.

Among other theatre-related names who will be lending their voices to guest roles on the project: Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Shanice Williams (The Wiz Live!), Lance Bass (Hairspray), Ashley Parker Angel (Wicked), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Beauty and the Beast), and Kether Donohue (Pitch Perfect). Ashley Parker Angel (O-Town), Tiana Jung (Nina's World) and Christopher Fitzgerald (Waitress) will also be making guest star appearances on the show.

Dates for their appearances are yet to be announced.

Each episode of Sunny Day will also feature a unique digital extension on and the Nick Jr. App where kids and their parents can watch fun, live-action hairstyle tutorials that are tied directly to each storyline and narrated by Sunny.

Leading up to the shows debut, and the Nick Jr. App will be rolling out a selection of full-length episodes of the show, plus short-form content, including hair styling tutorials, online. Additionally, a new online game "Smiling and Styling with Sunny", which will let players style and color hair plus paint and decorate nails for the residents in Friendly Falls, will be debuting on Friday 4th August 2017 on and the Nick Jr. App.

Produced by Silvergate Media (Peter Rabbit), Nickelodeon has picked up the series for 40 episodes (two seasons of twenty 22-minute episodes).

London, 2nd August, 2017 – Nickelodeon and VisitBlackpool have announced that singer, Pixie Lott is set to headline at Nickelodeon’s SLIMEFEST for two shows on Sunday, 22rd October at The Arena, Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Taking place from 21st-23rd October, SLIMEFEST is in partnership with VisitBlackpool. Families can visit for more information and to purchase tickets. All tickets cost £15 plus booking fee.

Pixie Lott is fresh from The Voice Kids coaching panel, where Team Pixie’s Jess Folley was crowned the winner. She will headline both the 1pm and 6pm shows on Sunday, 22rd October and joins The Vamps, who will be headlining on Monday 23rd October. Saturday’s act is to be announced in the coming weeks.

“I can’t wait to perform at SLIMEFEST in Blackpool” said Pixie Lott, “I was last in Blackpool for Strictly so I am looking forward to swapping the samba for the slime pit!”

Pixie Lott joins recently announced The Vamps, JoJo Siwa as well as Diversity and the stars of Nickelodeon’s School of Rock Breanna Yde and Ricardo Hurtado. SLIMEFEST will be hosted by Nickelodeon presenters Jordan Banjo and Perri Kiely.

Councillor Gillian Campbell, the Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council said: “We are delighted to welcome Pixie Lott to SLIMEFEST Blackpool in October. She’s a perfect fit with Blackpool’s family market, having performed here before she’s a firm favourite with the Blackpool audience and we look forward to welcoming her back.”

Two SLIMEFEST shows will take place each day, at 1pm and 6pm. Ticket options include seated arena tickets or SLIME PIT tickets offered exclusively to kids and guaranteeing an uniquely slimy experience close to the stars. 4000 people attended the two sold-out SLIMEFEST shows in 2016. Held at the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, SLIMEFEST 2016 was hosted by Jordan and Perri and saw performances from Diversity, Conor Maynard, Alesha Dixon, Aston Merrygold and the Tide along with appearances from stars of the Nickelodeon show, The Thundermans, Kira Kosarin and Jack Griffo.

The Nickelodeon Writing Program Announces 2017-2018 Semi-Finalists

Nickelodeon has announced the 2017 - 2018 Nickelodeon Writing Program Semi-Finalists!

Now in its 18th year, the Nickelodeon Writing Program, which receives over 1,400 applications each year, is one of the best in the biz, and offers aspiring television writers, with diverse backgrounds and experiences, the amazing opportunity to hone their skills while writing for Nickelodeon's live action and animation shows. Consider the facts: alum have gone on to create their own Nickelodeon shows and write for all sorts of TV series and films.

The Program, established in 2000, was developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, provides a salaried position for up to one year based in Los Angeles, California (Domestic) and a salaried position for up to six months based the UK (International).

While in the Program, writers meet Nickelodeon's series creators, story editors and showrunners, work in writers’ rooms, attend pitches, records, show tapings and more, and receive hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas in both live action and animated television. Basically, they write a lot and do lots of cool things, all while being provided a salary!

Each participant in the Nickelodeon Writing Program also joins an alumni group of people who have gone on to hold freelance and staff positions at various networks like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, Kids' WB!, ABC, FOX, PBS, Cartoon Network and the CW. Notable graduates include creators, co-executive producers and writers Jonathan Butler and Gabriel Garza of Nickelodeon's hit live-action comedy series Bella and the Bulldogs.
