Kids Elect President Barack Obama The Winner Of The United States' 2012 Presidential Election In Nickelodeon's 2012 Kids Pick the President "Kids' Vote" National Poll

Below is a Nickelodeon Press Release from PRNewswire:
Kids Elect President Barack Obama The Winner In Nickelodeon's Kids Pick the President "Kids' Vote" National Poll

More Than Half a Million Votes Cast

NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2012 /Nickelodeon Press Release via PRNewswire/ -- The kids of the United States have spoken and President Barack Obama has been elected the winner of Nickelodeon's 2012 Kids Pick the President "Kids' Vote." Since it began in 1988, kids have correctly picked the winner (in advance of the national election) five out of the last six times. More than half a million votes were cast in the network's online poll as part of Nickelodeon's Kids Pick the President initiative to build young citizens' awareness of, and involvement in, the election process.

President Obama received 65% of the vote and former Governor Mitt Romney received 35%. In order to more closely replicate the actual election, and to ensure the results were more authentic, this year the voting was limited to one vote per electronic device. Kids were able to cast their votes online from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22.

On Monday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT), Linda Ellerbee, the Emmy Award-winning host of Nickelodeon's Nick News, will announce [announced] the winner of the Kids Pick the President "Kids' Vote" on the network.

"What politicians do definitely affects kids but for me, it's not about who wins," said Ellerbee. "It's about creating tomorrow's voters. Democracy takes work. We're the practice field."

Leading up to the Kids Pick the President online vote, Nickelodeon aired two election-themed Nick News with Linda Ellerbee specials this year, which ranked as the series' highest-rated episodes for 2012 to date. In "Kids Pick the President: The Issues" (Sept. 17), kids nationwide ranked the campaign issues most important to them. "Kids Pick the President: The Candidates" (Oct. 15) provided an opportunity for the two major party U.S. presidential candidates to answer kids' questions. This year's candidate special featured President Obama sitting down with Nick News at the White House to answer kids' questions and previously taped video clips of Romney addressing issues raised by kids. Romney was unable to participate in the special.

Nick.com served as the official home base of the Kids Pick the President campaign, attracting almost a million visitors and generating more than 2.9 million page views since launch on Aug. 7. Kids have flocked to the site to discuss the general election on its message board and Nick.com/kpp currently ranks as the most popular page on the site in October (Source: Omniture SiteCatalyst, 8/7/2012-10/21/2012). Kids can visit Nick.com to interact and learn more about the upcoming election. They can also play games, take quizzes about the government, and learn about each candidate and the issues.

Kids Pick the President is also incorporated into Nickelodeon's The Big Help initiative where kids are given tools and information to take action on issues important to them. For more information, go to www.thebighelp.com.

Nick News, produced by Lucky Duck Productions, is now in its 21st year and is the longest-running kids' news show in television history. It has built its reputation on the respectful and direct way it speaks to kids about the important issues of the day. Over the years, Nick News has received more than 21 Emmy nominations and recently won its ninth Emmy Award for Under the Influence: Kids of Alcoholics in the category of Outstanding Children's Nonfiction Program. Additional Emmy wins for outstanding children's programming include: The Face of Courage: Kids Living with Cancer (2010); Coming Home: When Parents Return from War (2009); The Untouchable Kids of India (2008); Private Worlds: Kids and Autism (2007); Never Again: From the Holocaust to the Sudan (2005); Faces of Hope: The Kids of Afghanistan (2002) and What Are You Staring At? (1998). In addition, in 1995, the entire series won the Emmy. In 2009, Nick News was honored with the Edward R. Murrow Award for best Network News Documentary for Coming Home: When Parents Return from War — the first-ever kids' television program to receive this prestigious award. Nick News has also received three Peabody Awards, including a personal award given to Ellerbee for explaining the impeachment of President Clinton to kids, as well as a Columbia duPont Award and more than a dozen Parents' Choice Awards.

Nickelodeon, now in its 33rd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in more than 100 million households and has been the number-one-rated basic cable network for 17 consecutive years. CHILDREN'S AWARDS: NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

DOUBLE WORLD RECORD HOLDER HELEN SKELTON NOMINATED

FOR BEST PRESENTER AT 2012 BRITISH ACADEMY CHILDREN'S AWARDS

YOUNG ONE'S NIGEL PLANER RECEIVES FIRST EVER NOMINATION

HORRIBLE HISTORIES LEADS WITH THREE CHILDREN’S AWARDS NOMINATIONS

VOTING IN BAFTA KIDS' VOTE CATEGORY OPENS TODAY

London, 23 October 2012: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has
today announced the nominations for the 2012 British Academy Children's Awards, which take place on Sunday 25 November at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

Children’s BAFTA winner and Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood will return to host the Awards that celebrate the very best in children’s media, including television, film, video games and online.

Double world record holder Helen Skelton can now add a second Children's BAFTA nomination to her list of achievements for presenting Helen's Polar Challenge For Sport Relief. The programme saw her become the first person in the world to reach the South Pole by bicycle. Skelton is nominated in the Presenter category alongside last year's winner Steve Backshall, Milkshake's Kemi Majeks and previous winner Justin Fletcher, who also has two nominated programmes in the Pre-School Live Action category.

The Performer category features stiff competition between upcoming and established talent, with 14 year old rapper and actor Khalil Madovi up against 59 year old Young One Nigel Planer.

Three nominations go to the hugely successful series Horrible Histories, which has received nominations in the same categories for the last three years (Comedy, Writer and Performer), and winning for Comedy last year.

The four films nominated in the Feature Film category this year include BAFTA Fellow Martin Scorsese's Hugo and Disney's The Muppets. The Hunger Games and Arthur Christmas, the two other films competing for the Award, also appear in the BAFTA Kids' Vote shortlist.

The final series of Tracy Beaker Returns, featuring Strictly Come Dancing star Dani Harmer, receives two nominations, for Drama and Writer, and a BAFTA Kids’ Vote shortlisting in the Television category. The popular Tracy Beaker series has now received nine nominations at the Children's Awards over the years. The Amazing World of Gumball also receives two nominations, for Writer and Animation – the same two categories in which it won last year, and is shortlisted for the Kids’ Vote in the Television category too.

Junior Bake Off follows the success of The Great British Bake Off, the BAFTA-winning television programme at this year’s Television Awards, by being nominated in the Entertainment category.

The BAFTA Kids’ Vote opens for voting today: 7-14 year olds will have their say across a whole range of entertainment media in a nationwide poll to choose their favourite film, television programme, website and video game. The shortlist in each category is incredibly strong this year, with films including The Hunger Games, Marvel Avengers Assemble, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 all going head-to-head in the Feature Film category. Nominations for Television show include The Sarah Jane Adventures, Tracy Beaker Returns, Phineas and Ferb, House of Anubis and Almost Naked Animals.

The BAFTA Kids’ Vote opens today (23 October) at 09.00 and closes on Friday 23 November 2012 at 18.00. Children can cast their votes at www.baftakidsvote.org.

For a third year, the winners of the annual BAFTA Young Game Designers competition will be announced at the Awards ceremony. The competition is open to 11-16 year olds and aims to inspire the game designers and game-makers of the future. For the first time this year there were two categories: the Game Concept Award for young people who submitted an idea for a new game; and the Game-making Award, presented by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, for young people who made their own game using computer software. The top three entrants in both categories will attend the ceremony, and the winners will have their game developed further with experts from the University of Abertay Dundee, as well as visiting SCE London Studio, makers of the BAFTA Award-winning EyeToy® and SingStar® franchises. BAFTA has partnered with
Abertay University and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) on the initiative.

Gumball Up For Two British Academy Kids’ Awards

The TV series “The Amazing World of Gumball” has received two nominations for the British Academy Children’s Awards, organizers announced Monday.

Produced by Cartoon Network Europe in association with Dandelion Studios, Boulder Media and Studio Soi, the Cartoon Network UK show was nominated for Writer and Animation — the same two categories in which it won last year. In addition, the series is shortlisted for the Kids’ Vote in the Television category.

Ben Bocquelet, Mic Graves, Joanna Beresford form the producing team behind The Amazing World of Gumball. Bocquelet, James Lamont and Jon Foster are the nominated writers.

Vying with Gumball in the Animation category are The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers (Pesky Productions/POP), The Gruffalo’s Child (Magic Light Pictures in association with Studio Soi/BBC One) and The Mechanical Musical Marvel (Chris Randall and Julie Boden; Second Home Studios/THSH Birmingham).

In the Pre-School Animation category, the nominees are Peppa Pig (Philip Hall, Joris van Hulzen and Phil Davies; Astley Baker Davies/Five), Rastamouse (Greg Boardman, Eugenio Perez and Derek Mogford; The Rastamouse Company/CBeebies), Timmy Time (Jackie Cockle, Liz Whitaker and David Scanlon; Aardman Animations/CBeebies) and Tree Fu Tom (CBeebies/Fremantle Media/Blue Zoo/CBeebies).

Feature Film nominees include Arthur Christmas (Peter Lord, Sarah Smith and Peter Baynham; Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation/Aardman/Sony Pictures Releasing) and Disney’s partly animated The Muppets (Walt Disney Studios/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures UK). Arthur Christmas also appears in the BAFTA Kids’ Vote shortlist.

Three of the four hopefuls in the International category are animated series: Kung Fu Panda: Legends Of Awesomeness (DreamWorks Animation/Nickelodeon UK), Phineas and Ferb (Walt Disney Television Animation/Disney XD UK) and SpongeBob SquarePants (MTV Networks International/United Plankton Pictures/Nickelodeon UK).

Animated programs up for the Short Form awards are Compost Corner (Westley Wood, Tim Dann and Tim Collings; CiTV/CiTV), Ooglies (BBC Scotland/CBBC) and Share A Story 2011 (Dave Hickman, Carl Hadley and David Heslop; CiTV Creative/CiTV).

Besides Arthur Christmas, feature films shortlisted for the Kids’ Vote include Ice Age 4: Continental Drift and the partly animated The Smurfs.

Joining The Amazing World of Gumball in the shortlist for the Kids’ Vote in the Television category are the animated series Almost Naked Animals and Phineas and Ferb.

The British Academy Children’s Awards ceremony will take place November 25 at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Children’s BAFTA winner and Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood will return to host the awards, which celebrate the very best in children’s media, including television, film, video games and online.

The awards are presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, an independent charity that supports, develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public.
