Nate Burleson in Ongoing Talks to Expand Relationship with Nickelodeon Following 'NFL Wild Card Game' Success

Earlier this year, Nickelodeon and CBS scored a touchdown when they hosted a special slime-filled presentation of the National Football League’s Wild Card game against the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears in January. The "alternative" broadcast of the game was a hit with viewers, delivering Nickelodeon's highest ratings in nearly four years.

One of the anchors in the booth during the special was CBS Sports’ analyst Nate Burleson (pictured) - and it seems like Burleson was also a hit with fans, as Nickelodeon welcomed him back to present the network's “slime-lights” of Super Bowl LV, which aired during CBS' halftime coverage of the event.

And now, Burleson is reportedly in "ongoing conversations" with Nickelodeon about expanding that relationship!

Peacock Greenlights 'The Siwa Dance Pop Revolution'; JoJo to Continue Relationship with Nickelodeon

NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service has picked up a new unscripted series from Nickelodeon superstar and YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa!

John Photography/Shutterstock

The Siwa Dance Pop Revolution (working title) was developed by Bryan Stinson of Stinson Media and Jessalynn Siwa (JoJo’s mom and manager). Evolution Media will produce the series, represented by Alex Baskin, Douglas Ross, Brian McCarthy and Sean Rankine as EPs, along with Stinson, Jessalynn, JoJo and Caryn Sterling.

The live-action competition series is a spin on the star search model, following Jessalynn and JoJo as they create and launch a brand-new pop music group. The duo will hunt for the most talented kids—specifically triple-threats who can sing, dance and act—through a series of competitions and performances.

Prior to the announcement, JoJo teased via Instagram that something was in the works. “Pretttty big announcement coming soon,” the songstress wrote alongside a picture of her and her mom. In her own social media post, Jessalynn shared, “Patiently waiting to tell you all EVERYTHING xo!”

The duo also officially announced Studio Siwa, which according to the official Instagram account, is set to launch in June 2021.

2021 has so-far been a big year for JoJo. In January, the star came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, prompting love and support from her millions of fans. She later gave an inspiring speech at the 32nd annual GLAAD Awards in April. Fans have also launched a petition to rename an airport after the YouTuber.

JoJo originally became popular on reality series Dance Moms, and then parlayed that success onto YouTube, where she currently has 12.3 million subscribers. A partnership with Nickelodeon, which has encompassed merchandise and several TV and digital series (including The JoJo and BowBow Show Show), has helped Siwa expand her brand and fanbase.

Aside from their new unscripted series, JoJo also has a musical in the works for Nickelodeon. Titled The J Team, the movie “follows a young girl named JoJo whose life is turned upside down when her beloved dance coach Val decides to retire and is replaced by a sparkle-hating instructor named Poppy. Wanting to stay in the running for an upcoming dance competition, JoJo and her best friends, The Rubies, must try their hardest to abide by Poppy’s new, harsh rules. Realizing she cannot hide her sparkle or bow anymore, JoJo is kicked out of her dance troupe and must rediscover what dancing means to her.”

The actor filmed the upcoming flick in Vancouver throughout March 2021.

With JoJo's career heading into new directions, SIWANATORZ have been wondering whether or not the star will be staying at Nickelodeon. Fans can rest assured, however! Siwa’s publicist confirmed to Kidscreen at press time that her relationship with Nickelodeon will continue.

Fans can watch JoJo's Nickelodeon specials on Paramount+!

Kirk Fogg Dishes on New 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' Reboot

'90s Nick Kids rejoiced on Tuesday (May 11) when The CW announced that they were rebooting Nickelodeon's iconic game show Legends of the Hidden Temple for adults! However, as the announcement didn't mention a host, one of the biggest questions fans had - apart from "how do I apply to be on the show?" - was whether we would see the show's original host, Kirk Fogg returning.

You might recall, Kirk headed up hosting duties when Legends originally ran for 3 seasons in the mid-'90s. So, with that in mind, TMZ asked the man himself if he was coming back to pick up the baton again. Check out his answer - he didn't say no!

It doesn't sound like he'll necessarily be hosting this new version, but he says he's in talks with the network and aiming to be involved in some capacity.

It could be that Legends follows in the footsteps of Double Dare. When Nickelodeon revived that game show a few years ago with new host Liza Koshy, original host Marc Summers also returned to provide color commentary on the challenges and lending his vast knowledge of the game and expertise to each episode.

Kirk previously returned to the property in 2016 for Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple movie.

Kirk also revealed what what the studio/arena will look like. However, he might have spilled more than he should by revealing it's gonna be WAY bigger than the OG one kids were running back in the day -- but still faithful to Olmec's original labyrinths.

In The CW's announcement, the network revealed that the entire show is being taken out of the studio into a "jungle" and scaled up with tougher challenges and much bigger prizes on the line.

And, as far as potential contestants, well, TMZ's reporter actually pitched an idea Kirk was digging. The failed contenders from once upon a time could get a redo!

If you really want some nostalgia, peep the end of our video to hear Kirk's rehashed line from the end of the old episodes. Dude's still got it!

If you're interested in applying to be a contestant on the all new Legends of the Hidden Temple, you can register at https://legendscasting.com!

Jennette McCurdy Recalls Her Time with the Cast of 'iCarly' Before Quitting Acting

Jennette McCurdy, who has opted not to return for Paramount+'s iCarly revival, shared memories of working with Miranda Cosgrove and other cast members before walking away from acting.

Jennette McCurdy has decided not to return to iCarly for its upcoming revival, and now she's reminiscing about her working relationships with former cast members.

On a recent installment of her podcast Empty Inside, the 28-year-old Nickelodeon alum chatted with Karan Brar, known for his role on the Disney Channel's Jessie. During the discussion, the pair shared stories about their respective experiences as child actors.

McCurdy played the role of Sam Puckett on iCarly from 2007 to 2012 and brought the character back to life for its spinoff series Sam & Cat.

At one point, Karan, 22, explained that he appreciated developing connections with co-workers who were his own age. Jennette, who divulged on a previous podcast episode that she feels "embarrassed" of her acting roles, then recalled interacting with her own colleagues.

She said of working on a show, "It's sort of like a family, and you also have peers that you can connect with at some level. Even though you're all kids trying to be adults, you can still, in that regard, try to connect with one another."

The star of Netflix's Beyond, who is best known for her role as Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon's iCarly opposite Miranda Cosgrove's title character, shared that her career started out with parts on very adult-focused projects.

"The breadth of my resume—before getting a part on Zoey 101, when then the producer knew me for iCarly and the shows I did after that—I did mostly heavy dramas," she said. "A child prostitute, I played, or like the rape victim, or all these really intense, heavy roles where I'd have to cry on cue and do all that spiel."

Luckily, things improved when she was able to make connections on the iCarly set, thanks not only to Miranda but also Nathan Kress (Freddie) and Jerry Trainor (Spencer).

"I had great friends in Miranda and Nathan, and even Jerry, who was a bit older than us but was wonderful in trying to cultivate that kind of, to your point, the younger environment," she said on an April 28 episode of Empty Inside. "It was better in that aspect—having some friends my age was helpful and healthy. Yeah, I think that's how I feel."

She further described her time with her Nick peers as family-like and added, “even though you're all kids trying to be adults, you can still, in that regard, try to connect with one another."

Jennette, who is currently focused not only on her podcast but also on writing and directing, has previously made it clear that painful memories surrounding her acting career led her to quit pursuing that path. In a March episode, she said she "really resented my life because I didn't like the projects that I was a part of."

When further discussing her past projects, albeit not by name, Jennette explained why it’s proved “difficult” to tell the truth about her past experiences.

For her part, Miranda has expressed kind words in the past about working with Jennette. "My best friend is Jennette McCurdy, who was on iCarly with me," she told the BUILD Series in 2017. "We live really close to each other. We have sleepovers all the time. Like, I literally see her every other day."

You can read up about Paramount Plus' upcoming iCarly revival, set to debut on the streaming service in June, right here! The original iCarly series is also available to stream on the service right now.

Nick Jr. Global Slated to Premiere 'Beat Bugs' in July 2021

Nick Jr. Global will reportedly start to air the Emmy-winning music-centric animated series Beat Bugs in July!

Five friendly bugs learn big lessons about the world around them in this hit animated series.

Beat Bugs (78 x 11' plus one 44-minute special) is an animated series aimed at 4–7 year olds, revolving around the lives and adventures of five charming and funny child-like bugs. What sets Beat Bugs apart is that each episode uses the narrative inherent in a Beatles song, recorded by some of the world’s leading artists and sung by the show's characters as a key dramatic feature of the story.

Beat Bugs incorporates songs made famous by The Beatles, to tell uplifting and life-affirming stories filled with hope and melody. World-leading artists, including P!nk, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, as well as leading animators and writers have come together to work on this extraordinary show.

The Beat Bugs are charming, funny, adventurous and have a knack for getting themselves into mischief and mayhem. Each of the five friends (Jay, Kumi, Crick, Buzz and Walter) has a distinctive personality, and they display the charm and energy of five knockabout, lovable kids. They are best friends who band together to explore and learn in their overgrown back garden, which to them is their entire universe.

The Australian-Canadian series was created Josh Wakely and commissioned by Seven Network Australia & Netflix Inc. The series is co-produced by Netflix, Grace: A Storytelling Company, Beyond Screen Production (Mythbusters: The Search) and Thunderbird, and debuted globally in August 2016.
