'iCarly' Cast to Reunite at 2021 Kids' Choice Awards

The iCarly gang will soon be together again! A rep for Nickelodeon has confirmed to ET that Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress will be presenting together at Kids' Choice Awards 2021 later this month.

Cosgrove, Trainor and Kress appeared on the beloved Nickelodeon series from 2007 to 2012. Throughout its tenure, iCarly and its stars took home six Kids' Choice Awards Orange Blimps.

News of the onstage reunion comes after Paramount+ ordered a continuation of the Nickelodeon series last year. Cosgrove, Trainor and Kress are all set to reprise their roles, and have even shared a pic together from the set of the project.

The show followed Cosgrove's Carly Shay, as her internet show, iCarly, became a success. Trainor played Carly's brother, Spencer, while Kress starred as her friend, Freddie.

The revival is described "as a new chapter for the most successful kids’ sitcom of all time," where Cosgrove, Kress and Trainor "join new friends for a look at these characters’ present-day lives, adventures and comedic mishaps."

Jennette McCurdy was also part of the original series as Carly's other friend, Sam. McCurdy, though, is not expected to return for the revival, as she shared earlier this month that she's quit acting and said that she's "ashamed" of her career and past roles.

It is also unclear if Noah Munck, who played Carly's friend, Gibby Gibson, will return.

The 2021 Kids' Choice Awards, which will be hosted by Kenan Thompson, will air live on Saturday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Vote for your favorites now at https://www.kidschoiceawards.com and on Twitter!

Nickelodeon Greenlights 'The Patrick Star Show'; To Premiere Summer 2021

NICKELODEON GREENLIGHTS THE PATRICK STAR SHOW,
ORIGINAL ANIMATED SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS SPINOFF,
SLATED TO AIR THIS SUMMER

Longtime Voice of Patrick Star, Bill Fagerbakke, to Voice Famed Character;
SpongeBob SquarePants Voice Cast to Reprise Roles

Share it: @Nickelodeon @SpongeBob @OfficialPatrickStar @NickAnimation

BURBANK, Calif.--March 4, 2021--Nickelodeon has given the official greenlight to The Patrick Star Show (13 episodes), the second spinoff of the number-one animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, The Patrick Star Show is a family sitcom starring Patrick and the rest of his family as they are constantly disrupted by Patrick’s wild whims and surreal imagination. The series will debut this summer on Nickelodeon.

“Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “This second original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”

The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television!

Longtime voice of Patrick Star, Bill Fagerbakke lends his voice as the young adult Patrick alongside new cast members: Tom Wilson (SpongeBob SquarePants, Back to the Future) as Cecil Star, Patrick’s fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dad who always puts his family first;  Cree Summer (Rugrats, A Different World, Inspector Gadget) as Bunny Star, Patrick’s loving, sea star mom who is a kooky oddball; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Squidina Star, Patrick’s eight-year-old little sister who sees herself as Patrick’s executive producer for his imaginary TV show; and Dana Snyder (The Thundermans, Welcome to the Wayne, The Penguins of Madagascar, Chowder) as GrandPat Star, Patrick’s genius grandpat, the most intelligent member of the Star family. Summer also voices Grandma Tentacles, Squidward’s grandma.

Additional cast members include veteran actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton).

Marc Ceccarelli (SpongeBob SquarePants), Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Jennie Monica (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers of the series.  The Patrick Star Show is developed for television by Claudia Spinelli, SVP of Animation Development, Nickelodeon, with production overseen by Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series, Animation, Nickelodeon.

The greenlit comes as the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, debuts today on Paramount+. The Patrick Star Show is part of Nickelodeon’s strategy to be the home of the biggest franchises kids and families love, and it expands Nickelodeon’s growing portfolio of influential properties that already includes SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blue’s Clues & You!, the first-ever SpongeBob spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, the all-new animated Star Trek: Prodigy series, The Smurfs partnership and the recently announced Transformers co-production.

Since its launch July 17, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has reigned as the number-one animated series on TV for the last 18 years, while generating a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base.  SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in ViacomCBS Networks International history, seen in more than 170 countries and territories, translated in 30+ languages, and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every month. SpongeBob SquarePants was created by Stephen Hillenburg and produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurable optimist and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.

Nickelodeon, now in its 41st year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The brand includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, location based experiences, publishing and feature films. Brian Robbins Reveals More 'SpongeBob' Spin-Offs Are in the Works

Brian Robbins walked into a meeting where executives were deciding whether kids-media giant Nickelodeon should pick up SpongeBob SquarePants for a twelfth cycle, and asked what he thought was a simple question: With so many characters populating the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, how come the network had never created any spin-offs?

“It really is like a mini-Marvel Universe,” Robbins, who was named head of Nickelodeon in 2018, told Variety.

Fans will get to see another part of the always optimistic sea sponge’s world soon. The ViacomCBS unit has greenlit 13 episodes of a family-oriented comedy featuring SpongeBob’s pal, Patrick Star. The Patrick Star Show is slated to debut this summer, and will focus on a younger version of the character, who hosts a TV program and lives with his family. Bill Fagerbakke, the longtime voice of the animated pink starfish, will play the title role.

The news comes as ViacomCBS rebrands it's CBS All Access streaming service as Paramount+, bringing with it a mountain of SpongeBob, including the entire library of the original show, as well as Kamp Koral and the new SpongeBob movie, Sponge on the Run.

More is in the works, says Robbins.

“There is seemingly an endless amount of stories with this franchise,” he says of SpongeBob, whose escapades have been shown on TV since 1999. “You’ll see movies with spinoff characters. I think you’ll see more shows like Patrick, and some other characters, and some different live stuff. It’s kind of endless when you think about the cast.”

Strategists at ViacomCBS are betting that the famous cartoon character will have an easier time of convincing his followers to subscribe to Paramount Plus — and stick around for other offerings. The new entertainment hub is a signature strategy of the company under CEO Bob Bakish, and content from Nickelodeon, one of the conglomerate’s largest units, can play a pivotal role not only in luring younger viewers, but also their parents, who must agree to spend the money necessary to stay with the service.

SpongeBob has appeal for several generations. His antics are clearly for children, but his longevity likely means their mothers and fathers are familiar with him. And, as is the case with other cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck or The Simpsons, there are enough subversive elements in the series to give adults something to think about when they watch with kids.

Robbins didn’t hint as to whether Sandy Cheeks or Squidward might be next to get the spotlight, but there is a larger strategy behind expanding the series beyond the immediate vicinity of the pineapple under the sea that serves as the title character’s base of operations.

Patrick Star will debut on traditional Nickelodeon, and then move to Paramount Plus. Kamp Koral, which will debut on the streaming hub initially, will be made available on linear Nickelodeon once its first season has streamed on the video hub. “We want our brand to be as ubiquitous as possible, and we know that kids consume in so many different ways on so many different platforms,” Robbins explains. “The most important thing is to make sure you watch what you want to watch however you want to watch it.”

Multiple airings also mean that people who may not see episodes upon their debut will get a crack at watching them later, potentially spurring a different wave of interest. “My hope is that being on multiple platforms will allow more discovery,” says Robbins.

Viewers will also get to encounter new characters from SpongeBob’s broader world. Patrick Star, for example, will come with a new coterie of associates: Squidina, his eight-year-old little sister; Bunny and Cecil, his parents; and his grandpa, GrandPat. Tom Wilson will give voice to the father, and Cree Summer his mother. Jill Talley will play Squidina Star. Dana Snyder will play GrandPat. Additional cast members include SpongeBob veterans including  Tom Kenny , Rodger Bumpass, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence and Clancy Brown.

No matter how far SpongeBob may travel, Robbins says Nickelodeon remains very focused on his origins. The character was originally the vision of Stephen Hillenburg, a marine science teacher who left his job to pursue a career in animation.  “I think it’s very important for the creative team and all of us at Nickelodeon to be really respectful of what he’s built, and we always keep that in mind,” says Robbins.

Nickelodeon Renews 'Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years' for 13 More Episodes

Nickelodeon has renewed Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years for an additional 13 episodes, bringing the series up to 26 30-minute episodes! The news comes as the first six episodes of the network's first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off premieres on Paramount+.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years is the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff. The CG-animated prequel series follows 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals during summer sleepaway camp where they spend their time building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years features Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) reprising their iconic roles. Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko's Modern Life, The Casagrandes) and Kate Higgins (Blaze and the Monster Machines) join as new characters Nobby and Narlene, narwhal siblings who live in the woods surrounding the camp.

Marc Ceccarelli (SpongeBob SquarePants), Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Jennie Monica (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers of the series. Production of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years is overseen by Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series Animation, Nickelodeon. Kate Mulgrew Explains Exactly Why She's Returning to Star Trek for 'Prodigy'

Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew reveals why she decided to reprise her fan-favorite role as Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Prodigy.

One of the biggest surprise returns to Star Trek as the franchise expands its wave of original programming for Paramount+ is fan-favorite actor Kate Mulgrew reprising her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway on the upcoming animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. Now, the actor has revealed what brought her back to the role.

Mulgrew starred as Janeway on Voyager, commanding the eponymous Starfleet vessel across all seven seasons from 1995-2001, with a brief cameo appearance in 2002's Nemesis. For Mulgrew, that character has been a constant in her daily life.

"She's always present in my life. Not a day goes by where I don't have some reminder or request about Janeway or something to do with the future of Janeway. And when [executive producer] Alex Kurtzman approached me -- when I was doing Mr. Mercedes, that's when he called me -- I was curious about it; slightly bewildered about it being an animated series, I didn't quite understand it," Mulgrew told CBR. "It was explained to me in detail and I thought to myself 'Wow, this will be terrific to bring this to young people who may be watching this with their mothers who watched me as Captain Janeway in live-action and it will bring the entire family into the orbit of Star Trek and this is something that I very much want to do.'"

Kurtzman serves as the head of Paramount+'s new wave of Star Trek original programming that launched with Discovery in 2017. Originally intended to premiere on Nickelodeon, Prodigy moved to Paramount+ and has reportedly already been renewed for a second season. The series will also bow on Nickelodeon following its run on Paramount+. For Mulgrew, herself a prolific voice actor that has appeared in everything from Batman: The Animated Series to the Dragon Age video game series, the opportunity to reprise her iconic role in a vocal performance was one that she found to be a major incentive to return to the franchise after nearly 20 years since her last on-screen appearance.

"Also, I love to use my voice, I love the solitude of the recording booth; I love the freedom of it," Mulgrew continued. "Star Trek truly is the gift that keeps on giving."

Created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, Star Trek: Prodigy stars Kate Mulgrew and Billy Campbell. The animated series has yet to receive a Paramount+ premiere date.

Nickelodeon Israel Orders 'Ziggy' Season 2

Nickelodeon in Israel has renewed young-adult drama Ziggy (×–×™×’×™) for a second season!

'Ziggy' is set for another 40 episodes

From Tel Aviv-based producer and distributor ADD Content (The Missing, My Guardian Angel) and created by Shahar Segall and Oren Yaakobi, Ziggy tells the story of a 16-year-old boy named Dori who has the skin condition vitiligo (a long-term skin condition characterised by patches of the skin losing their pigment).

To fulfil his dream of singing and performing on stage but lacking confidence, Dori invents a charismatic and talented alter ego – Ziggy – a personality who can conquer bullies and shine through the mask he adopts as his signature costume. Dori/Ziggy is played by newcomer, Amitai Erman, who also has Vitiligo. The show follows Dori’s journey of success and his battle to keep his true identity a secret, while he falls in love, makes friends, and discovers himself.

The series is distributed internationally by ADD Content.

Nickelodeon, which is carried by pay TV platform Hot in Israel, has commissioned a further 40 episodes of the series. Emil Ben Shimon is the director.

The news comes hot on the heels of TeenNick Israel premiering the show's season one finale.

Hadas Mozes-Lichtenstein, co-founder and head of international at ADD Content, said: “This series shines a light on the importance of acceptance, both of others and, more importantly, of yourself.”
