Nickelodeon HD Now Available in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound on Kuki TV in the Czech Republic

Nick News Brief: Nickelodeon HD is now broadcasting in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on Kuki TV in the Czech Republic!

Update (4/11) - Kuki TV has dropped the English soundtrack of Nickelodeon HD from its service. Programming is still available in Czech (čeština) in the Kuki Malá, Kuki Veľká and Kuki Extra packages.

Update (22/12) - Nickelodeon On Demand is now available on Vodafone Czech Republic!

From Lupa.cz:

Televize Kuki nabízí ČT2, českou CNN a další stanice s prostorovým zvukem

Stanici naopak nedávno do nabídky zařadila překvapivě O2 TV.

###

Najdeme mezi nimi například seriály Plamínek a čtyřkoláci, Želvy ninja, Avatar: Legenda o Aangovi, Tlapky, Kouzelní kmotříčci a nechybí pochopitelně ani Spongebob v kalhotách. Vodafone pak prostřednictvím sociálních sítí informoval také o tom, že zákazníkům s boxy pro jeho televizní službu umožňuje konečně vlastní řazení programů.

Deleted SpongeBob SquarePants Scene Resurfaces

A deleted scene from SpongeBob SquarePants has resurfaced on the internet.

A deleted scene from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Just One Bite" has recently resurfaced on the internet! In the episode, Squidward develops an obsession with Krabby Patties after trying one for the first time.

"Just One Bite" originally aired on Nickelodeon USA on  October 5, 2001 as part of a Totally Twisted Telly event, however, a scene had to be removed from subsequent airings due to it's violent nature.

In the original in-tact version of the episode, there is a scene where Squidward triggers and is injured twice by a security system in the Krusty Krab that Mr. Krabs had installed to keep anyone, including Plankton, from entering the building at night. The security system consists of a bucket of gasoline that Squidward mistakes for a bucket of water, which is spilled onto the floor before being lit on fire to cause an explosion.

Soon after its original airing, Nickelodeon cut the scene, with reports of the scene being removed coming as early as January 2, 2002.

Initially, explanations for the removal were thought to be either to respect the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which occurred less than a month before the episode aired, or to prevent children from attempting to use and/or ignite gas.

However, current showrunner Vincent Waller confirmed in a statement on Twitter on June 4, 2018 that the removal of the scene was ultimately due to a Standards and Practices issue and Nickelodeon being against the idea of a gag involving a match and gasoline.

The edited version is still aired today, and is also the version released on home entertainment, including DVDs and, in the mid-noughts, VideoNow.

However, the uncut version of the episode is still available to watch on TV, depending on where you live. The unedited version still airs on Canadian channels, including YTV and Nickelodeon Canada, and is also known to be dubbed in Korean on EBS airings in South Korean.

TikTokers Blast Big Time Rush for Performing After Kendall Tests Positive for COVID-19 — And Still Holding VIP Meet-and-Greets

Nickelodeon boy band Big Time Rush is under fire this week, after failing to cancel a show despite one member testing positive for COVID-19.

A.PAES/Shutterstock

Lead singer Kendall Schmidt skipped Saturday’s New York City concert due to a positive test result, but the other three members went ahead, sparking backlash from fans. The band even participated in a meet-and-greet for VIP ticket-holders.

After starring in the Nickelodeon musical sitcom Big Time Rush from 2009-2013, the band took a break, with the artists concentrating on solo music and acting projects. Their fanbase is still going strong, and, after reuniting virtually during the pandemic in 2020, the boys announced a comeback tour earlier this with all new music - but judging by the reactions on TikTok, many were shocked and disappointed that Big Time Rush didn’t cancel their concert on December 18.

“When I see Kendall from Big Time Rush tested positive but they continued to do the meet & greet/concert anyways with the other 3 even tho Carlos is unvaccinated and needs to quarantine for 14 days,” wrote one fan on TikTok.

Another TikToker posted a firsthand account of attending the New York show. @spicybakedbeans describes arriving around 3.30pm for the 8.30pm show, and being let inside at 4pm as a VIP ticket-holder. She and her friends were told by the band’s tour manager that refunds were available, but the show would still go on.

“Some people started yelling like, why is the show going on, they were all exposed,” she continued. “And the tour manager was like, oh no they weren’t, they all got negative tests.”

But as this TikToker points out, the other three members of Big Time Rush were surely exposed because they’re all touring together, and therefore run the risk of infecting people despite testing negative.

She added that the meet-and-greet went ahead with the remaining three singers, but that she and her friends chose to go home. When they left the venue, there was a long line of fans waiting outside, none of whom were aware that one of the band members had recently tested positive. “Some girls we talked to had been there since like 9am,” she said.

The band still hasn’t posted about Schmidt’s Covid status on social media.

The news is especially disappointing as the new Omicron variant of the virus sweeps the globe.

NickALive! wishes Kendall a speedy recovery.

Update (12/22) - A source connected to the band tells has told TMZ ... Kendall was not near the group or the venue for Saturday's show, and everyone in the band -- including James Maslow, Logan Henderson & Carlos PenaVega -- all tested negative multiple times before arriving for the gig.

TMZ were also told that all of the guys wore masks during the meet & greet, for extra precaution, and they stood on an elevated platform to increase distance between fans and them.

Yes, the band stuck to the old adage of the show must go on -- but they did so as safely as possible.

How Old Is SpongeBob SquarePants - and Why Figuring Out His Real Age So Confusing?

Despite his child-like energy, SpongeBob SquarePants holds down a full-time job, leaving many wondering exactly how old the titular sea sponge is.

Since SpongeBob SquarePants' debut in 1999, its titular sea sponge has wiggled into fans' hearts with his energy and unwavering optimism. With movies, spin-offs and over a dozen seasons under its belt, audiences have learned a lot about SpongeBob over the years. Still, one aspect remains somewhat of a mystery -- his exact age.

The animated Nickelodeon series follows SpongeBob's daily shenanigans, often alongside his best friend, Patrick Star. When he's not annoying his grumpy neighbor, Squidward, SpongeBob puts in long hours at the Krusty Krab as a fry cook and dreams of getting his boating license at Mrs. Puff's Boating School. With a full-time job, a house of his own and a pet snail to care for, it seems SpongeBob's age falls somewhere in his adult years or, at the very least, 18. However, SpongeBob SquarePants' logic is hard to nail down, like most cartoons. Not to mention details from certain episodes and late creator Stephen Hillenburg's comments on the subject seem to point in opposite directions.

SpongeBob's Drivers License Contains An Important Clue

In the episode "Sleepy Time," fans get a glimpse of SpongeBob's drivers license, which lists his birthday as July 14, 1986. Given the episode aired in 2000, this puts SpongeBob at 14 years old -- if the show's timeline aligns with the episode air dates, that is. In the U.S., this falls well under the minimum driving age of 16 (although Bikini Bottom may have its own laws). Although that creates a bit of a plot hole in itself, Hillenburg also pointed out that the license appears in a dream sequence. While that seemingly brings the canon status of SpongeBob's birthdate into question, the same date appears again on his license in "No Free Rides."

SpongeBob's Grandma Suggests A Different (& More Likely) Age

The Season 2 episode, "Grandma's Kisses," seems to confirm that SpongeBob is, in fact, an adult rather than a teenager. After being bullied by Squidward and some Krusty Krab patrons for kissing his grandmother, SpongeBob decides to act more "grown-up," although resisting his grandmother's cookies and kisses proves more challenging than he imagines. However, she assures him by the episode's end that he can love her no matter how old he is, saying, "Remember, you can kiss your grandma and still be an adult."

Grandma SquarePants' sentiment suggests that SpongeBob is an adult, although likely a young one. The episode itself tackles issues that many young adults face as they struggle to adjust to the "adult world" and the parts of the childhood they feel like they're forced to leave behind in doing so.

Stephen Hillenburg Provided Some Answers About SpongeBob's Age

While Wikicartoon states he was 12 at the show's debut and 14 since "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout," Hillenburg wasn't quite as direct. According to Fiction Horizon, Hillenburg has joked that SpongeBob is 50 years old in "sponge years" and that "he is old enough to be on his own and still be going to driving school." Of course, the topic of "sponge years" remains a mystery, and if Bikini Bottom follows U.S. driving laws, it means he'd have to be at least 16 to drive -- which is older than the SpongeBob wiki's age estimation.

As for Hillenburg's secrecy, it's because he intended for SpongeBob to be ageless in a way. However, that wasn't always the case. Initially, Hillenburg wanted SpongeBob to be an adult, but Nickelodeon wanted a child character that attended school. As such, a compromise was born by creating Mrs. Puff's Boating School. The change also explains SpongeBob's child-like energy despite navigating many adult tasks.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years Provides An Age (Sort Of)

Kamp Koral follows Bikini Bottom's favorite residents as their younger selves at summer camp. SpongeBob and Patrick are confirmed to be ten years old in the spin-off series, and Pearl is just a baby. Pearl attending junior prom in "The Chaperone" and turning 16 in "Whale of a Birthday" during SpongeBob SquarePants places SpongeBob is in his mid-20s - making the Kamp Koral timeline align more closely with Hillenburg's early wishes to make SpongeBob a true adult character.

SpongeBob SquarePants' Age: 18 To Mid-20s

While SpongeBob's drivers license remains compelling, more evidence points to him being an adult. Kamp Koral all but confirms it. SpongeBob's grandmother refers to him as an "adult" and "grown-up" on more than one occasion. He also appears older than Pearl, who -- as mentioned above -- turns 16 in the show. Plus, he owns his own home, pays bills and works a full-time job. In combination, these factors put him anywhere from 18 to his early 20s.

Although the 1986 birth year comes up twice throughout SpongeBob, no evidence suggests the in-universe timeline aligns with the episode air dates. Not to mention Hillenburg initially conceived the character as an adult. Still, SpongeBob's exact age remains a mystery without confirmation from the creator or writers. While that may disappoint some fans, it's precisely what Stephen Hillenburg wanted -- an ageless character that appeals to kids and adults alike.

Gordon Cormier Teases 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Mystery Casting

First releasing in 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender is considered by many to be one of the best-animated series of all time, following Aang and his friends as they attempt to stop the Fire Nation's plans of taking over the world. Fast-forward 15 years and Netflix is looking to get in on the action by developing their own live-action take of the world of bending. Although the streamer has announced a lot of the cast of the new series, it seems like they're be announcing even more new cast members soon!

Posting recently to his Instagram, Gordan Cormier, the young actor that will be bringing Aang to life in the upcoming Netflix series, teased an unannounced mystery cast member he was currently spending time with. Though much of the principal characters from the original series have already been cast, the potential for whom Cormier might be sitting and laughing with "in the school trailer" still includes several possibilities. Check out the post below:

Recently, Netflix took the opportunity to announce that characters from the original series such as Azula, Suki, Yukari, Kyoshi, and Gran Gran will be making their presences known in the live-action take on Avatar, with actors Elizabeth Yu, Maria Zhang, Tamlyn Tomita, Yvonne Chapman, and Case Camp-Horinek respectively bringing them to life. While there has yet to be any announcement as to when fans can expect this new live-action television show to arrive, there are plenty of fans of the original series crossing their fingers that the new take will do the original series justice.

One idea that comes to mind is Aang's childhood friend Bumi (later King Bumi). Bumi may require both a younger and older actor as he appears in flashbacks to 100 years ago in Aang's past and the present of the story. Perhaps Cormier is hinting at spending time with a younger actor playing Bumi. It's only a theory, but truthfully the fact that there have been no Bumi casting announcements and he is such an important character does give weight to the idea.

Whoever the mystery cast member is, there is no denying the enthusiasm surrounding Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Every cast member can enhance the series in new and exciting ways, bringing new depths to the characters they will portray and adding layers to the established world beyond what was seen in the original animated series. Of course, the flip side is the wrong casting choice could hurt an established character, but it seems like the showrunners have taken the time to ensure the casting decisions are not made lightly. Hopefully, the series will continue the legacy of the original positively and help wash away the lingering memories of the last live-action attempt.

Who do you think the mystery character in the upcoming Netflix series is? Which Avatar character that has yet to be announced are you hoping to see? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
